For several reasons I was rooting for Shee Yuan: prices are less than other take-outs, it's close to our apartment, the people who work here are very nice, AND if you spend $25, you get a free order of General Tso's chicken. I was dubious. But surprise! A legitimate four-star rating! Their soup, let's face it, isn't wonderful. Wontons are dense, egg drop bland, hot and sour thin.... but everything else passed muster! Egg foo young is as good as anywhere else. The sauce however is gloppy. Our gratis pint of General Tso's chicken is my idea of decent sweet and sour: the sauce has tang and the chicken is crisp, yet not over-cooked. I asked that the seafood combo in white sauce be prepared spicy. And it was. Sort of. Granted, they use fake crab, but looking past that, the dish was good. Located near St. Joe's housing, Shee Yuan is popular with students. (As said, it's cheap!) For some reason a had a taste for some egg foo young & I hadn't had it in years. I found this spot & decided to try it out, not to mention that yelp had given them some good reviews. It's good and I would have no problem eating here again, but it's definitely not something to write home about nor is it a place I can say to go out of your way for. I'll keep it simple: This is quite possibly the best Chinese food I've ever had. Affordable, sizable portions, seasoned and cooked perfectly, and a menu that has some special items I haven't seen at other places. I ordered the tofu and broccoli entree with rice, a vegetable spring roll, and an order of Chinese donuts. Most places don't have broccoli AND tofu, you get one or the other, so that was already a plus. The tofu was crispy on the outside and the broccoli was cooked but still somewhat crunchy. The sauce reminded me of the Chinese food I used to get back in New York...but was somehow better. The spring roll was not greasy and the veggies inside weren't the same chewy stringy things I usually get. The donuts were pretty incredible, especially because you get TEN of them for $3.49. I mean, they're not the best, but they're one of the better in the Overbrook Farms section. The food is usually consistent with flavor and preparation. Portions and prices coincide very well. Shee Yuan's food is what you would expect from a typical Chinese take-out place. The food can be vaguely greasy and not feel heart-healthy at times, but it is a good choice for a quick dinner when you're craving Chinese food. I generally find Shee Yuan's quality to be slightly higher than some of the other take-out places in the area. The food is also reasonably priced (cheap!), and you get huge portions, so it's definitely worth the money. I recommend picking up your order to save on the delivery time-- I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes after I call for food. Order the pork-fried rice. I do concur with the other reviews general Tso is not their forte but I have never been disappointed with anything else, and let's be real guys...General Tso isn't "real" Chinese food to begin with. I love their soups and the woman who answers the phone has never been anything but courteous. I had the typical dishes, general tzo, shrimp toast, and szechuan beef. Awful. The chicken was mostly a batter, tasted old, no flavors in sauce. Shrimp toast was literally dripped in grease and burnt. The bee smelled funny and chewy. I just never had this kind of bad food. It's not even average tasting. read more

Ordered for the first time today. Saw all the reviews about horrible customer service, but I used their online ordering system, which was quick and easy and required no human interaction. Gives you the option to pay in advance with a credit card or use cash upon delivery. There are places on each menu item for special instructions as well as for the overall order. I indicated that my Singapore noodles should be extra extra spicy, the small broccoli with garlic sauce spicy, and that they include hot mustard for the egg roll. The food arrived in 29 minutes. They are only about 3 minutes away, but on a Saturday night at 8pm, that's pretty great time. The food was all very good for your standard quick Chinese restaurant, and it was all appropriately spicy. The 3 items plus delivery charge came to just under $16, and I threw in a $2 tip. Large portions. More than enough food for 2 people. Will order again. read more

The lady is very nice and knows the requirements of regular customers. And for lunch you get ample amount at very reasonable price. Delivery is pretty fast. Their tso type items and fried rice type items are very good and serves a hearty amount. the sea food platter amount is enough for two persons. Ordered delivery 30 mins before they closed after my girlfriend and I had a terrible day. Delivery was quick, they were able to find our house so we didn't need to run down the street, delivery guy was pleasant, and the food was good. Not amazing Chinese but great for what it is. The shrimp egg food young is REALLY good. Although, I agree with the other reviewer, the general tso chicken is not good at all! The ironic thing about that is, they received numerous awards for that dish. Not sure how! The shrimp and broccoli is not good either. Highly upset!!!! placed an order from here and was told they only Deliver to two sections of the hospital, I don't work in either of those sections. Lankenau hospital is huge but has clear signs and directions everywhere, I even offered to meet the driver at the closest entrance and they refused to deliver, furthermore my money 13.05 ti be exact will take 3-5 business days to be refunded.
