I visited Han Hand Roll Bar on a Wednesday night with a friend. We were the only two people sitting at the bar. We each ordered two hand rolls. I got the smoked salmon and the lobster. They give you the hand rolls as they are made so you do not receive everything that you order at the same time. When my second row came, I started to eat it and did not think that it tasted like lobster. I I mentioned it to our server and he gave me my friend's role instead of my role. He ended up making her another role and I ended up with three rolls. I do not think this place provides a good value for what you get. The hand rolls taste decent but not special and the price is more than I would want to pay. I would have really liked to. I've liked this place, but it just wasn't the case. read more

Wife and I were hanging out around the area having drink. Came across this little sushi bar with some open seats and thought why not! That was a great choice! We got some cucumber salad on the house and a tried a few different things. Now these are non-cut sushi rolls. It's the whole roll uncut for the most part. The wife and I shared the tuna roll with a side squid salad. Both were amazing. Well prepared and rich in flavor. Tuna was super fresh with a spring mix of veggies with the roll. The squid salad was cooked perfectly served cold with nice smooth vinaigrette finish. Service was great as they order and prep the food right in front of you. So you pretty much see everything from start to finish. The bar is inside Armature works with limited seating. It looks as if it's a play on sushi bar but with modern looks. Very limited space so keep an eye out if you are trying to sit down. read more

We came in to have lunch only to find out nothing on the menu is gluten-free or can be made gluten-free. What a bummer. It's not clear from the menu online as well so I thought this would help for anyone wondering to save you a trip. There is soy sauce already in the rice they use as well. It's a nice space though, just not Celiac safe. read more

I recently visited HAN Hand Roll Bar, and unfortunately, the experience fell short mainly due to service issues. When we arrived, there were signs everywhere stating that you had to speak to the cashier before being seated, so we lined up accordingly. Once it was our turn, we were told we couldn't sit until we went over the menu with the cashier first, which felt unnecessary and slowed things down. After finally being seated, it took an unusually long time just to place our order. During peak time, the staff did not seem to work cohesively as a team, and there was very little support between employees. Several interactions we witnessed involved the cashier/server appearing visibly annoyed and, at times, rude toward customers. The food itself was okay, but not memorable enough to outweigh the service experience, which ultimately ruined the meal for us. Portions are very small, so this may work for someone looking for a quick bite rather than a full meal. The lobster roll was decent but nothing to rave about. One standout item was the snow crab cucumber salad, which I would recommend. The checkout process was also frustrating it felt like a whole ordeal just trying to get a server's attention to pay. Overall, while the concept has potential, the service and flow of the experience need significant improvement to make it worth returning. read more

I really enjoyed the concept and vibe of this hand roll sushi bar! Right in the middle of the food hall, I wasn't sure if this would be the place to cure a sushi craving, but it certainly hit the spot. The menus are awesome, it's a checklist of which rolls you want -- or you can order as you go. The service here was very friendly and attentive, and the ingredients tasted super fresh. I tried a couple of the hand rolls including the spicy salmon and the appetizer salmon crudo. Everything was fantastic and I just wanted to keep ordering more! I'm a sucker for a great hand roll. These were good hand rolls. So much potential for this place though, I loved the concept and loved sitting up at the bar to get our food. I liked how everything was set up, and it was pretty quick service too which is uncommon at Armature! Would try it again and perhaps get something new. read more

I have no issue waiting for food that's being prepared to order. I do have an issue waiting for food when I can see the staff congregating to chat and not making anyone's food for extended periods of time in a row. The only one working was the girl making the ramen. Waiting an hour and a half for 2 hand rolls is insane. Even more interesting was watching one of them replace their gloves to start handling their phone and touching their clothes, not very sanitary. When we finally got the rolls it was just ok. Lunar New Year event at Han restaurant in armature works! Live 350lb tuna cutting and processing into hand rolls. The box was $50 for 5 tuna hand rolls, 1 of which being otoro. This is my first time trying this fresh and this many cuts of tuna, it was a special experience! Some event organization could have been improved. They ran out of the special presentation box by the time I received my order so mine was given to me in a to go container. The flavor and quality of the rolls were good. The organizational hiccups made the event frustrating for some. read more

When we arrived we weren't sure if we were to take a seat at the bar or if they were for reservations. Not one person said hello or how we were doing. After sitting for a little bit reviewing the menu no one asked if we had any questions or if we were ready to order they just came over and looked at us like are you ready. After we ordered I wasn't sure if we had to order water or if it just came out. We noticed a machine in the corner of all kind of water, sparking, still, alkaline. I wasn't sure which one I wanted to try but then the lady went over and filled up something and gave it to us so we didn't have a choice in the matter. As for the food, I tried their tonkotsu ramen. That's always my first to try to judge how the restaurant is. It was not a typical tonkotsu. This almost tasted like black pepper ramen. And as for the chashu they only put one very small piece in the bowl, anywhere I go I usually get 2 - 3 pieces. Overall pretty disappointed, we were really hoping to like this new spot. The weird part is there is a place on st Pete with the same name at earth origins and it's 10x more authentic. read more

Wanted to love this place. Isaiah the cashier was very nice and the only employee that acknowledged us out of 3 even while dealing with the walk up line. We sat with dirty dishes for about 15 mins before being noticed. We received the hand rolls on a dirty piece of paper not switched out from the last customer. There were multiple flies. Came here randomly with my brother in law for a quick bite before painting the town red (lol) and was thoroughly surprised! I got the wagyu hand roll (because why not) and it was heaven in my mouth. I saw they had tonkotsu ramen on the menu and decided to get some ramen, not expecting much..... boy was I wrong! It was hands down the best ramen I've had in recent memory! We loved how approachable and fast the whole experience was -- such a casual, fun way to enjoy handrolls. The ingredients were super fresh, and everything tasted great. I must be unbiased: "SUSHI is one of my favorite foods," but I liked the food here. I have had sushi from so bad I can't swallow to so good I can finish plates worth. This bar was good sushi. I went with my friend here to try a few different locations since it's in a food hall-type area, and I had to go back separately and get a second roll. The prices are not too bad, and the food is worth it, in my opinion. I also mentioned that the chef made the desserts for many other restaurants that the company owns, and I enjoyed our conversation. The atmosphere is a food hall, so take that as you wish, but this was one of my favorite stops from our trip to the food hall. read more

As a recent transplant to the Tampa area and a proud foodie, it was only natural that I made my way to the famed Armature Works! My friend and I browsed the bustling variety of cuisine present and immediately locked in on Han due to our love of Ramen. Unfortunately, the excitement to get a warm bowl of bouncy noodles was met with unnecessarily poor service. I say unnecessary because everyone in the venue (vendors included) was extremely nice and showed superb professionalism. The service at Han was out of place and an "eye sore" in such a fun environment. Not only were we not even greeted with so much as a hello while standing right in front of a staff member, but she proceeded to walk off and another staff member emerged and showed the same dismissive aura. I had to initiate the hello and ask if I was even in the right place to order! She looked shocked that a customer was actually waiting to be served (go figure) and then proceeded to finally take my order. After my order was ready for pickup, I walked up and was again ignored. I am a patient fella. But at some point being blatantly disrespected has its limits. I noticed our food sitting off to the side and went and grabbed it myself. I figured if they hadn't noticed me yet (especially after dropping close to 40 bucks on mid-ramen) my presence grabbing the food wouldn't be too big of a deal, right? It wasn't. Anyone could have grabbed that food and they wouldn't have been the wiser. The best thing that came out of this was kudos from my friend that I was that patient and didn't make a fuss. I'd give more grace if things were busy. But for there to be 3-4 staff in the front of the stand and max 3 customers at the bar, and staff still looked lost and overwhelmed, come on. Having worked in food/hospitality myself I always try to give our servers a break. But at the end of the day, Im paying for a service and expect to at least be acknowledged as a human spending money at your establishment. It's not that hard. Do better please. read more

this place has SO much potential, but is not great. warning i can be extremely pretentious about sushi... (and all food). almost all the fish/seafood that Han serves is more or less ground up, i didn't have any rolls that were chunk pieces of seafood. the vibe, set up, design, menu, drinks, experience, warm hand towel are all incredible. the handrolls are a big miss. i honestly havent had one i really enjoyed. the owner and people that work there are so nice. it would really help them to visit other handroll bars around the country and take notes on their fish prep/presentation. as far as im aware, kazu nori, owned by sugarfish group, in los angeles, and some in new york were the first to really popularize this type of handroll bar experience in the US. ive been to plenty of different handroll bars since the first kazu nori opened and they are still probably the best experience/food. i REALLY like tekka bar, they are a very similar chain concept too. Yunomi in culver city has a little more expansive menu but is also a similar concept (there are TONS others but those are my favorites that i have the most experience with). the Han owners, partners, investors, chefs, should go to these places and build off what they currently have and some of the things these spots are doing. i really want to see Han succeed, i would go multiple times a week, but not at the current state. i've had it 2 or 3 times hoping the food improves but it hasn't. i will not be back unless there is some sort of press rebrand of their food. Han has a waygu handroll where they flame the slice of beef in front of you, the waygu is legit so of course its good, but the mesh rack is way past its prime with a bunch of the metal wire missing or broken. i dont think this has to be done all up in the customers face, it can be done on the counter or somewhere else in sight where its more comfortable for the chef. the uni i had was from a new package but was not good. i watched the chef open the package but he didnt try it so he wouldnt know if it was still good or not. the portion was tiny and the price (for uni) was pretty cheap. i think most people ordering uni expect to pay a premium and would also prefer a larger portion than Han currently provides. everything except the food is fantastic, some of the food is good but the handrolls by in large are all sub-par. i do prefer how they wrap the handrolls smaller here rather than leave them open like other places across tampa bay. also the rice portion is good. some of the handrolls across tampa bay load the handroll up with rice and it drowns out the fish. Han does not do that which is great. right now, if i want handrolls in tampa, im heading to tori bar, their proportions can be off (lots of rice) but the toro handroll there is huge chunks and soooo good. a lot of the other handrolls in the tampa bar area have too many ingredients. handrolls should be high quality and simple. i would be extremely happy to update this review if things change. read more
