Han Palace has one of the largest all-day dim sum menus in Northern Virginia, so it has been my go-to dim sum restaurant for about six years. Unfortunately, today's experience ended that relationship. When me and my family arrived in the evening and were seated immediately. Within a minute, our server asked if we were ready to order. When I said we needed a little more time, she visibly appeared annoyed. After quickly deciding as a family, I placed our order. Because I studied Chinese as a second language, I sometimes order dishes in Chinese. In my experience, servers either appreciate the effort or simply take the order without issue. This time was very different. The server seemed irritated that I was ordering in Chinese. I switched to ordering by the menu item numbers while pointing directly at the dishes because I thought there might be a misunderstanding. Surprisingly, she insisted that I order using the dish names instead. Had the experience ended there, I would have chalked it up to an awkward miscommunication. Unfortunately, it got worse. Less than 30 seconds after taking our order, two dishes arrived. The speed made me wonder whether the food had already been sitting out. The steamed pork buns were so dry that one had cracked open, and the shrimp dumplings were mushy and stuck firmly to the paper liner. I was later surprised to see another reviewer describe a similar experience several months ago. After dropping off the food, the server walked over to a colleague and began speaking in Chinese. They repeatedly looked directly at me while discussing my attempt to order in Chinese. Since I understand the language, it was clear that she was complaining about me. This happened several times while the restaurant was relatively empty. Each time, she returned to the same spot to continue the conversation, with her colleague looking directly at me. After the third time, I asked for the check because I wanted to leave. Paying premium prices for disappointing food is one thing; having the staff openly criticize you while you're dining is another. As we were leaving, I heard the server mutter, "What's his problem?" I will not be returning. I understand that everyone has a bad day, but the combination of poor food quality and unprofessional service made this one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in years. We went here on a Saturday around noon for dim sum. The food was okay. The pork siu mai and the fried sticky rice dumplings were fine, nothing remarkable. The shrimp dumplings were good. The beef ribs were really difficult to eat and the meat was not tender at all, it was much more tough and stringy than I expected. The steamed beef rice noodles also had no flavor, definitely would not recommend this dish or the beef ribs. The space was nice, there were a lot of larger tables as well as smaller tables for parties of 2 to 4. It wasn't too crowded when we went, a few larger groups and some young families. As other reviewers have noted, the service was sorely lacking. I noticed some of the servers were pleasant, but the lady who was serving us was pretty unfriendly and inattentive. She did not check on us even once to see if we needed more water. She just seemed annoyed and like she couldn't be bothered to do her job. There was another lady that did check on us near the end of our meal and she was very friendly, asked us if we needed any boxes, and offered to refill our water glasses for us. I guess your experience just depends on who you happen to get, but in my opinion, if you're that rude to customers, maybe you shouldn't be working in customer service. They do validate for parking in the lot and there's a garage that is for you for the first two hours. Overall, the prices at this restaurant are higher than is typical for dim sum. This place is worth a visit if just for the purple drink & purple dessert buns. We also enjoyed some dumplings as well as General Tso's. There are several happy hour drink options There were some communication issues as others have mentioned but nothing felt intentional or negative. We parked out front during happy hour with no issues. Our friend parked in the garage which allows for two hours. She was over by one minute and they were kind enough to validate it for her. However, I feel compelled to share the horrible experience my family and I had at Han Palace in McLean, Virginia. I can't speak much about the food, because we never got the opportunity to eat. When I called earlier in the day to make a reservation for the 4 of us, the restaurant told me they do not take reservations for a small party. After waiting approximately 45 minutes and being reminded several times that there was "another table ahead of us," we were ultimately skipped. Another party of four, who arrived approximately 20 minutes after us, was seated ahead of our family. perhaps we were not of the same ethnic origin or spoke the language, but I felt the immense racism in the way this restaurant management handled themselves. When I confronted the manager, he immediately wanted to get us seated and did not give me a reason why we were completely passed over. I was meeting with a few friends in celebration of the lunar new year and being my first time, I really enjoy the atmosphere. The dining area is on either side of the restaurant, gorgeous bar that wraps around, plenty of beautiful decor on the walls and a private room for larger parties. There were so many selections to choose from on their menu. One side has regular and specialty items and on the other side is dim sum. It appears they have two separate menus but it's actually one. They both display the same items on both menu but the white shows the prices. All of the items ordered were tapa style and delicious like char sui, steamed scallops dumplings, beef chow fun, bok choy with garlic, steamed shrimp crepes, braised eggplant, Peking duck with pancakes; pan fried turnip cakes, garlic snow pea leaf (market price). For dessert items like pineapple buns, purple gold yolk bun (salted egg yolks) were delicious but unfortunately the coconut pudding felt flat. Though It was in a shape of a white bunny, there was no coconut flavor and it had a medicinal after taste. There were multiple food runners, the host Yee and all staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Our server Maggie had multiple tables and there were times we just sat there. But on that day, there was a special guests that arrive and gave blessings to all the patrons and staff members. The restaurant is connected with the 7900 building so it has a shared restroom. There is a 2 hr limited to eat. Hours of operation are 11:30a-3p and 4p-9p; Fridays and Saturdays they closed at 10p. The parking is limited in the front but manageable and there's more parking in the garage (2 hr is free and after theres a fee). I really enjoy the quality of the items except the coconut bunny. I was pleasantly surprised to find Han's much quieter than usual during our recent Sunday brunch. As always, the dim sum didn't disappoint. We especially enjoyed the scallop dumplings and, of course, the classic crab balls--both were flavorful and fresh. That said, a couple of dishes fell short this time. It has taken me a couple of years to make it here even though there are not that many dim sum places in the area. Not sure why this place does not receive five stars from everyone. I brought my mom here for her birthday and she agrees that this place has fresh, hot dim sum dishes that come out quickly. They also have good stir-fry vegetables and congee. I am surprised the rating is only a 3 stars for the restaurant, we were there for dinner, great authentic Cantonese food with a good amount of good (more than Peter Chang and mama Chang) ... the food was served fast and the servers were attentive as well. And I can tell you it was really good and the right armpit of spice as I told them I wanted it spicy. Now days first today I did carry out and got the same dry beef chow fun and asked for STEAMED crab meat dumpling. Not thinking nothing I waited around 10-15 minute then took my order and went on my way. It wasn't until king or home that I realized that I got FRIED crab wonton which were completely overpacked at $10.95. Plus the noodle dish was not a piece of spice on it after I told her I wanted it spicy! Not sure why she didn't understand I wanted it STEAMED. I don't eat much fried food and if I wanted those wonton I could have went to my local hole in the wall Chinese joint for them. And to top of off don't even put any dipping sauce for them. The dining room is modern and upscale, servers are friendly, and they have the same great menu as before with some updated specialties. Second time trying Han Palace and confirming it's not up to par. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, clean, bright, has good service and ample parking, but the food is meh. Shrimp dumplings didn't taste fresh and the roast duck with XO sauce rice roll crepe skin was thick like paste and my tongue was stuck to the top of my mouth with one bite. One of my favorite fried rice dishes, salted fish and chicken, had no flavor, rice was soggy and barely had any bits of salted fish. Steamed Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce was decent and cooked with a nice crunch. Hot and sour soup was more spicy and no sour. It's more common these days that there are fewer master dim sum chefs as the younger generation is not interested in pursuing this career. So most dim sum is not prepared well, and in many cases, restaurants will buy bulk frozen dim sum and steam it on order to save labor costs. I believe Han Palace is in the former category. Overall, it was disappointing as I was looking forward to some good Cantonese food while on business in the area. read more

Parking kind of sucks here, I only saw a few spaces in the front. Our waiter was not that attentive and had an attitude. We came here for the ceiling decor but got stuck in a side room. Food was mediocre, we tried their special dish for 3 meats and the honey bbq pork was not very good. I'm like omg that's even worse than what i thought it was. That's dangerous, not cool. He took the metal scrubber piece back to the kitchen and came out with a better attitude and gave us some dim sum dishes on the house. A group of girlfriends and I checked out this location (Tyson's) after seeing it on social media. Inside was very clean and open. They did have an outdoor patio that would've been great if it wasn't raining the day we went. Service was great, fast, and they validated parking. Food was amazing. We ordered from the dim sum menu and were happy with the price, portion and quality. Favorite items for me were the beef lo main and crab meat dumplings. I will note that the beef short rip was personally not a favorite of mine due to how fatty it was but it was seasoned beautifully and again came out fast. Food was above average, but not as good as dim sum places you find in California. Probably one of the better ones around DC though. The menu was pretty large so there's something for everyone. The waiter was nice and friendly, but didn't check up on us until the end. Service was 5/10. We got peking duck but I found out later that the duck was hung up in open air in the kitchen. It wasn't enclosed and didn't feel very clean. The restaurant also used tortilla as the wrapper of the peking duck, which didn't seem authentic. For something so pricey I expected better quality. The fridge also had a label for what seems to be an expiration time for 2:30 pm but the food was still served at around 7 pm. This was concerning. Service was quick, they got our order and brought out the food right away. The restaurant looks modern. The space is tight; there's no room for dim sum carts rolling around, so you have to order off the menu. We ordered several plates, all of which had nice presentation: - har gao - shui mai - my favorite of the day - shrimp rice noodle crepe - fried taro - turnip cake - chicken feet - steamed pork buns - sticky rice Large plates: - beef chow fun - seemed to be full of fillers like bean sprouts and onions - garlic snow pea leafs For dessert: - durian cake - Portuguese egg tarts - pineapple buns The dishes were brought out quickly. Service was average. We got our initial orders in at the beginning, but then the waitress basically ignored us until we flagged her down to request some more dishes. Visited this place over Labor Day weekend. Amazing dim sum, lobster pan fried noodles and fried flounder. Seafood is super fresh and they definitely make it very well. Lobster is tender with their special sauce and the fish is fried very well! Apparently they fly their seafood from Alaska so it's pretty good quality. I absolutely loved it! Dim sum is made fresh to order and is fair pricing. Staff was very quick and super friendly. I highly recommend it! Finally visited Han Palace as a recommendation from a long time ago. Came on a Saturday for dinner They opened at 4 pm but they were not ready from the lunch hour close. They were still cleaning dirty dishes off tables. Arrived at 4 pm and another party was waiting to be seated. It took them about 10 minutes after opening to have us seated. The seats were not clean as there were crumbs and hair on it. The restaurant had a cheap appearance as the decorations were just taped on to the ceiling. Hopefully they don't do this all year round since I think it would be a major turn off for some people who would want a nice dining experience in McClean. The food came out very quickly, but I was disappointed in the taste. The steamed shrimp was by far my favorite here. The beef chow fun was very oily and did not have much flavor. The custard bread was not too bad. For a place called Han Palace, it did not seem much like a palace but more like a shack based off the cleanliness and decorations. We came for dinner on 2/19/23 and were seated immediately. Our server came within 5 minutes to our table. Our order consisted of 2 dim sum items, 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees. Most of our food came to the table in 10 minutes. The baked bbq buns (3 per order) were smaller than other restaurants, but they tasted crispy on the outside that made them unique. The pineapple buns (3 per order) were small too, but didn't stand out like the bbq buns so not worth ordering. Also, they were served at the beginning of the meal and should have came out towards end as a dessert. The roast duck was moist and juicy, and the pieces provided for a quarter order were mostly meaty. The crispy roast pork was also delicious. If only other Chinese restaurants took some lessons from the chefs here! The Han style filet mignon consisted of broccoli and beef cubes. Every piece of beef was tender. The other entree was salty fish, chicken and eggplant casserole, which was large and tasty. Overall, the food here was first rate. The dining room is beautifully decorated. However, the service needs to be more attentive. After we received all our food, our server disappeared and never checked on us. We had to talk to another server to get our check and obtain take home containers. It's best to come here for dinner than for lunch when it's less crowded. read more

Went for dimsum on a Saturday night. Maybe that was the first mistake, because I am used to going to dimsum places for brunch, where waiters push carts of fresh dimsum in the restaurant. Nothing we ordered was fresh. The shrimp dumplings and the wide noodles with shrimp tasted stale and microwaved. The dumping wrapping and noodles did not have the chewy bounce that I am used to and easily crumbled in my mouth. The pork buns were super hot right out of what I assumed was heated in the microwave. It did not taste good or fresh at all. The only thing that tasted ok was the turnip cakes, which had to be pan-fried. I regret not listening to the yelp reviews because this place was not worth the money or visit at all. read more
