Overall, it is a decent dimsum. We got everything to go. They have some unusual items I've never seen elsewhere like water chestnut dessert(nice), fried shrimp tofu pocket(kinda over fried). Siomay, Jang fen, dumplings are decent. I tried shark fin dumplings..idk, just pork and shrimp I think.. I don't love the shrimp chive dumpling, the dough is bit thicker than the one I'm used too, which usually is heavy on chives I thought. Bit diff from this place. Their food is really hit or miss. I was impressed with their stir fry dishes like their chow fun and gai lan - both had excellent wok hay and was cooked to perfection and served hot. However, their dim sum dishes were quite disappointing - they claimed that their egg tarts were "baked fresh from the oven" but when I bit into it, the custard was stone cold and the pastry itself was very doughy. A lot of the other typical dim sum pastries were also doughy and were not fresh. Service was quite slow and they weren't super busy when we went in on a Sunday. We were there for almost 1.5 hours and had to constantly ask the waiter when our food was coming out. They also had a miscommunication where they forgot to bring out something and we had to remind the staff that we ordered it and then they brought out the wrong item. Overall pretty mid experience, would order some of the specific dishes again but most of them were unfortunately a miss for me. Everything was delicious. The Shrimp Crepes were my favorite and honestly the best I have had in the area. All the food came out hot and fresh, which made it feel like everything was made to order. Service was excellent. Two different staff members checked in on us throughout the meal to make sure everything was good. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming. I would definitely come back. One thing to note is that there is a sign saying parties of one or more are subject to automatic gratuity. However, when we checked our bill, gratuity was not included. I think this is one of the best dim sum restaurants in nova. When fortune in seven corners closed, I had to go looking for a new go to spot and this one is it. I used to go here with family on holidays and it would get so busy and packed that the wait wasn't worth it. They have very few employees so during big rushes it's very hard but I came again on a random weekday and it was completely different. It was so slow that it was like I was having a private event but the food came out so fast and the waitress was very attentive. I like how you can order with the dim sum menu (that includes pictures) so it's easier to locate the things you really want instead of searching while you're trying to eat and talk with everyone. I love this place so much! It is the most authentic Cantonese food ( the culture as well) place in the DMV. You know it if you are Cantonese and have lived in Hong Kong or Guangdong province. They have the best 叉烧酥 and 千层糕, as well as other Cantonese dishes that you can't find in any other dim sum places. Unfortunately, I live in MD and hate to drive that far, so I do not go there super often, but I eat a lot of food and pack a lot of takeout with me when I go there. read more

I came here before but haven't been back for many years. To my delight they have dim sum here now so that was great. Inside looks just as I remember it with plenty of seating. Service was great and the waiter gave good knowledge of the menu. We ordered most of the traditional dim sum dishes and I enjoyed the food, it was very comparable to other places in this area. After my long hiatus I plan on coming back for dim sum now. Lastly I did notice is they had the pork buns that were baked and not in the traditional puffy bread. I came here back in Feb 2024 for take out for Lunar New Year. i ordered 2 lb of Roast Pork and several other dishes. the pork was rotten and i had the most difficult time with the rude staff trying to get a refund. but the funny part was discovering the meat was rotten. when i got into the car with the food, it smelled horrible in the car... i thought someone farted! it wasn't, so we thought the baby had a really bad poopy diaper, but it wasn't. then we thought the dog has a bad tummy ache and might have diarrhea anytime, but he didnt. I was skeptical to eat at first when I saw the leaky ceiling, dirty tables and floors. But never judge a book by its cover, well that saying was wrong for once with this place. The food was not great I asked if they had any gf alternatives (in Cantonese and English) they said yes but it ended up just not putting in soy sauce. Then they kept asking us to add more dishes but it was just two adults and a small child. I said we didn't need that many dishes. And with that being said they had really bad attitude. Before we were done eating g they started to clean the tables (it was on around 6:30pm) They add in the tip automatically and when you say you want to change it they say it's store policy. I take my 2017 review back, Vinh Kee is something I *do* crave on a regular basis! In fact, ordering a takeout spread from Vinh Kee on Lunar New Year has been my MO for the past few years. I'm not super traditional with my ordering but nothing beats their spicy fried pork chops (Protip: Save those crispy garlic bits and top it off on your rice), combination pan fried noodles, beef chow fun, mongolian beef and chicken fried rice. A meal here totally takes me back to my youth and chowing down on Canto food with my pops. It is getting a bit harder for me to find this style food in the area so I am so glad that this battered down restaurant is still dishing out the goods. Takeout is efficient and quick! Went for dim sum on a Saturday afternoon. The food was solid, but most importantly, I must commend Vinh Kee for how great the service was. We had four different staff members checking in on us throughout the meal, and they were all very friendly, particularly with my two young kids. God I'm torn. On the one hand, Chinese food in DMV keeps hitting me $3-5 too high per dish, and this place is no different. On the other hand, they have everything I want and they do it super well. It's a little past Eden Center - just keep going west and you'll hit it. There's a solid selection of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. Vinh Kee is literally the only restaurant I could find with salted fish fried rice, which is probably one of my favorite dishes ever. It hurts me it's $3 to add chicken instead of coming with it, but that's fine I guess. The dim sum selection looks pretty solid too, but I haven't been. Even before the pandemic I've pretty much only gotten takeout, but I wanted to give props to their takeout setup: I Stan super hard for anyone with center to-go boxes since the steam can escape and food will stay crispy. You can see for yourself, Vinh Kee makes them manually, and even delivery that got to me an hour later was still solid! Super hard for me to pass so many Viet places to get here but I never regret it. Vinh Kee is probably my one stop wonder if I keep flip flopping Chinese or Vietnamese cravings. read more

I was craving Cantonese roast duck ended up ordering half roast duck to go from Vinh Kee as well as Mark's restaurant in the evening, so I got a good opportunity to compare the duck from both places. Vinh Kee's half roast duck was ~$18, it was a little bit larger than Mark's but had a lot more pieces where it's all just fat and I can't eat, the color was less dark, was a little bit less flavorful than Mark's and needed more sauce. Overall, it's a decent duck. Mark's half roast duck: the skin's color is a beautiful dark red maple, the skin is crispy, duck was not too fatty, meat is flavorful and lean, and the sauce great.  Price wise it was $16 or $17 before tax and tip, can't remember the exact number. I think after trying both I slightly prefer Mark's duck more than Vinh Kee's, it tastes better, better price, and since Mark's is also closer to me that gives me a little nudge in Mark's direction too. Will definitely go to Mark's first choice and come here 2nd. read more

I hate leaving places negative reviews but I try to only do it if I've visited at least twice. I dined here last month and then this week. The servers here look like they don't enjoy working here and you can just see it in their posture and attitude. Last month I had only ate with one other person. I always felt that dim sum places prayed on the weak and would add dishes when you didn't order them hoping you wouldn't notice but always hoped to be wrong. This time we actually checked. They let you order off a paper menu and as dishes come out, they mark it on your sheet. The server I noticed marked an extra slash on ours as I recounted our dishes. She mentioned that a dish was coming but she marked it early. My friend and I had a strange feeling so we left at least one piece of food for each dish we ordered on the plate. Then a few minutes later, a gentleman walks out with a dish for our table and again, marks our sheet. I ask to speak to the lady and let her know they charged us twice for the same dish. She doesn't apologize but grabs the sheet and starts counting our dishes trying to see how many we ordered and if she has made a mistake which I'm sure she knew she did. She left our table for about 15 minutes trying to figure it out and I think she was hoping we would just tell her not to worry about it but we stood our ground. I'm sure this isn't the first time they've done this. She finally comes back with the sheet and says she took care of it. In my mind I'm hoping this was an honest mistake. Then we get the check. We were a party of TWO and they had added a 18% gratuity onto our bill. No where on their menus or establishment were their signs of this. I'm not mad about paying it, I'm mad you didn't disclose it to your customers beforehand. Most of the time tips included like this are for larger parties which is understandable and even then, it's written somewhere to let the party know. They also add this at the bottom and there's a ton of numbers on the check so it just seems like another fee or tax so customers won't think to ask and I'm sure many customers have added extra tip on top of that SO MAKE SURE TO ALWAYS CHECK because you are already tipping them and they are trying to just get extra money from customers! My second experience this week was similar. I didn't want to come back but my friend had insisted on coming here so I decided to give them another chance. They had the same servers that didn't want to be there. I came late and asked for a water and look down to find a bug in it. Not sure what type but asked for a new water and realized yeah, probably shouldn't drink this new one either. Did any of the servers apologize? Nope. We ordered about 9 dishes for the four of us and the food came out pretty fast. Our bill total was about $92. I get home and realize I should have checked the check more throughly because of my previous experience and I realize they probably had charged us tip again (I mean they did it for a party of 2 last month so why wouldn't they for a party of 4 now?) and we had tipped on top of that. I recheck the pricing at home and our bill would have been about $68. How are taxes and fees making up for $24? They had to have added the 18% tip to our bill but even with that, I was overcharged somehow. Definitely will not be going back. I thought I'd give Vinh Kee a try since my friend had previously recommended it. The first time i stopped by, I unfortunately stopped by the week the restaurant was closed. The second time, I stopped by on a Sunday around 11 am. It was pretty empty, maybe 3 or 4 tables of people. There were only a few people working but the service was pretty slow. We started with the Shrimp Rice Crepe. The rice wrapper was nice and soft. I've had this dish from other restaurants before and the rice wrapper was hard. I really liked the soy sauce that came with this dish as it was a bit sweeter. We've also ordered the Pork Dumpling, Shrimp Dumpling, Chicken Feet, Pork Buns, Taro Cake. The chicken feet were really bland. I was surprised with the color of the sauce that it didn't have more flavor. The rest of the dishes were fine. They were good but weren't super flavorful like I've had at other restaurants. The one plus is that the dishes came out hot. I went with a friend, so we couldn't order everything on the menu, but just some of our favorites, and this place was solid, definitely better than what I have expected, especially the lotus wrap. Please see the description below. - Sticky Rice Lotus Wrap [GET]: The BEST thing on the menu. This pork stick rice wrapped in lotus wrap is not like any other ones I have had. First of all, the rice is not too sticky or heavy, instead it was light and fluffy, where you can taste each grain individually, not even joking. There's sausage, pork, and other veggies in the rice. The seasonings were perfect, flavors were spot on, and cooked insanely well. Nothing I would change about this, but if I had to then it would be a bigger portion, because I literally wanted a second one. - Pork Bean Curd Wrap [GET]: Typical tofu skin wrap with pork fillings. It was good, and inside was packed with good quality pork. The tofu skin was tender, juicy, but not too soggy, and had a nice chewy and texture. Perfect to pair it with some sticky rice. - Shui Mai [GET]: Came out steamy hot, huge four pieces of shui mai made with huge chunks of pork and shrimp topped with some fish eggs. It has a good layer of chewy wonton skin on the outside, and each bite was fulfilling juicy, and delicious, literally one of the best comfort food you can have here. - Leek Dumplings [GET]: The dumpling skin was fried perfectly with a cripsy golden outer layer. The fillings was good size, packed with leek and fatty pork meat, super delicious and flavorful, so good that no sauce is needed. - Taro Cake [GET]: One of the iconic dish at dim sum. There are three huge slices of taro cake and they were pan fried just right. Each slice has a decent amount of taro chunks and pork in it. Definitely scrumptious, and I devoured like 2 pieces out of the 3. - Sesame Balls [GET]: Freshly fried and crispy. Great mochi texture, so it was pleasantly chewy and sticky, loved it so much. I believe the filling was red bean, and usually I only eat the outer skin, but surprisingly I really enjoy the paste and ate it all, because it wasn't too sweet, and literally melts in your mouth. - Egg Tarts [SKIP]: Flaky and butter crust with a solid creamy egg filling. The filling was too sweet, and I didn't like how it was just lukewarm coming out. It looks like a typical Asian dim sum place, super spacious with Asian decorations and a bunch of round tables and chairs. I've been here once for the dim sum and it was okay so I haven't gone back. I decided to give it a try again after a few year and it was not good at all. I order for to go and let's say the food was really disappointing. I ordered the salted fish fried rice, pork chop kingdom, and roasted duck. Everything was so bad!! The salted fish fried rice had no meat, 80% was rice, the rest was oil, salted fish crumbs, eggs, and green onions. It was like $18 and it was little portion too. The pork chop kingdom had the littlest portion I've ever seen!!!!!! The duck had little meat because the duck was thin, let me tell you that I've eaten plenty of roasted duck and it's never this thin. The seasoning on the duck was really bland too. With none of the order for food was good, I doubt other dishes are good. For customer service, I knew coming in for food during the holiday will be crowded, I was blessed I didn't have to wait for at least 2hrs like other people did. If you are coming here for holiday, expect long wait time (both for to go and dine in) and bad customer service + disorganized staff. In more recent years, it has become a family tradition to order takeout here for birthdays and celebrations, with occasional dine in. In addition to a plethora of dim sum dishes, we have a few entrees that are our go-to, such as the deep fried pork chops, dry beef chow foon, stir fried Chinese watercress with garlic, noodle soup (so comforting and hearty!), roast pig, clams in black bean sauce... whew. They have Peking duck too, which we will splurge on once in awhile! The dim sum is solid here. It always comes out hot and fresh and overall just tasty! I love the har gow, shumai, and crab claws and crave it constantly. I'm absolutely thrilled they offer it all day! This is my habitual dim sum oasis. One improvement they can make is their pricing - it can be erratic at times (e.g. outdated menus, arbitrary policies, etc). Make sure you double check everything upfront and if you have questions at the end they are generally nice about clarifying everything (although the time spent scrutinizing the bill takes away a bit of a nice dining experience). Stopped here on our way to NC for lunch. First time so not sure what to expect. It's decent. I'm from LA so it is hard to beat! My 7 yo had the shrimp dumplings and shrimp in rice noodles! She devoured it all. I ordered the shrimp stuffed tofu and stuffed eggplant. They were nice and hot but the sauce was a little bland. I also ordered the shu mai and it was pretty good as well as the chive dumpling. This was Not as crispy as I'd like but it never is everything was hot and pretty good. Service was attentive and pleasant. I'd come back when in the area. Love that they have it everyday all day!! read more
