I dont know why this place has low stars.. but hands down to the best malatang in NYC. I have tried malatang in different places but so far this place has me come back so many times. Im just stick with one order and they never disappoint me. And it s so affordable $12 per bowl with lot of meat. I love their sauce. The aunts working there are super sweet as well. read more

Han Song Ting - Beef malatang - Chinese Near Me - Flushing, New York

Ever heard of the term "phoning it in"? It's used to convey something being done without enthusiasm, without passion, without focus - in the days before Zoom, hybrid work and coworking spaces made it much more acceptable and routine, it indicates something done remotely without spiritually "showing up for their A-game". The odd thing is that "phonin' it in" is opposite to "dialing it in", since the former is someone putting up minimal effort for a task, while the latter refers to someone putting in extra effort on a task to make sure everything is done correctly, like a astronomer in front of a radio telescope tuning the controls precisely just that one bit to capture the radio waves from a faraway star. So yeah, the lady behind the counter is definitely phoning this one in, but ironically dialing it in for one thing. Exhibit A: it's not that busy on a late Friday afternoon (6:30p) but the tables outside look grimy. I mean, Main plaza is fairly grimy in general, but the streaks are off-putting. There is that smell in the mall, but that's probably overvalued antiques decaying, combined with signs of water damage up on the ceiling. Exhibit B: It's a Chinese-Korean joint but most of their customers aren't there for Chinese Korean - it's here for malatang. Exhibit C: my Chinese Korean food. The good news - the boiled pork and chive dumplings (#7) are pretty good. Fresh ingredients inside the filling, the seasoning tastes clean, the inside is juicy, the skin has a chewy texture, held up during cooking and isn't too thick or gummy, and works well with the provided dipping sauce. Some care was spent making those dumplings. The bad news: everything else me and the missus ordered, which is the Naengmyeon (cold noodles, or #2) and the kimbap (with spam inside). Ever had a decent bowl of Naengmyeon at a Korean restaurant (usually South Korean style)? It's usually a cold beef or chicken broth, sometimes blended with dongchimi (radish onion ginger asian pear juice and brine), a slight bit vinegary and with thin slices of beef (or whatever protein you have), asian pear or pickled radishes - the intuition is that the South Korean prefer a more savory broth and as you head north, the soup gets sweeter. When you get to Yanbian region of northern China bordering North Korea, it became more of a sweet and sour thing with apple juice and a bit of soy sauce got added in, but the meaty broth is still the foundation. So what the hell is this bowl of disappointment doing on my table? First, it tastes like pickle juice - nothing meaty about it. Second...raw cabbage? Since when do Koreans (or the folks from Yanbian) put raw shredded cabbage in their Naengmyeon? Third..cilantro and plenty of it? I've never seen examples of Korean cold noodles with that. What else is inside that bowl? Spam fresh from the fridge with their congealed fat and gelatin, and all this for the low low price of 12 bucks as of June 2024. So...overly tangy, weird and likely made with leftover ingredients from someone's malatang order? Oh yeah, the lady manning the place also forgot my kimbap order - the missus actually had to ask. She was more than happy to take the money but didn't even bother to issue a receipt or write it down. How was the kimbap? Gummy watery rice, the same fresh-off-the-fridge spam, a little bit of the usual cucumbers and pickled carrots, but the entire thing is off-balance. Too much rice, a bit bland and slightly fishy...but from what? There's no surimi (fake crab stick) in there - the entire thing was infused with mediocrity. It also costs just as much as the local places that make kimbap, like Kimganae or Chung-Moo on Union - and nowhere as good. You often get some complementary items like pickled radishes and maybe a small cup of soup to go with those 2 joints, since they care about what was served. If you like your tastebuds constantly punched by cheap spices, yeah, I guess malatang will work here - it's usually just a big pot of spicy whatever done cheaply and quickly - the term "Sichuan garbage bowl" comes to mind, but that was the intention anyways. If you want stuff that takes effort to get right? Unless you are here for the decent dumplings? Don't. Just don't. If you want a place where you can fully expect people to phone it in, that's IHOP on 156th and Northern..but if you want a grimy place in downtown Flushing infused with the stench of half-assery, this place should be on your radar. Honestly my favorite spot for Malatang. They have their homemade sauce to go with the Malatang which is an amazing addition too. It might look a bit sketch as it's literally inside Main Plaza 时代商场 and out in the open with tables. It surprisingly is pretty enjoyable (for me) to just sit there and enjoy my meal. read more

If you want to grab a quick bit to eat, get the mah-la-tung .... it's the fastest thing they can cook up. The price is moderate. Their food price ranges from $6/$8 to $10 ... depending on what you order. I've been eating here for lunch for about over a year now and only had a few issues with them. 1) I called ahead to place my order once, and one of the ladies just completely forgot me (the older one) Her apology didn't make up the fact that I had a short lunch period and completely didn't get to eat my food before I had to leave. So that wasn't a good day. And it completely defeats the purpose of calling ahead to save time. EPIC FAILED!! 2) I'm wearing my headphones, eating my lunch...completely zoned into the show I'm watching on my phone and the staff interrupts me to translate for her, because it wasn't obvious enough that I'm on my lunch break when i'm there in the first place?? I guess when you become a regular there, they forget you are a customer still and the boundary line just disappeared.... somehow they think I'm there to work. (Mind you, I don't mind helping out when I volunteer for it, but....when you cut me off from eating, or watching a show....just NO!! ) My time!! that or you pay me like my job does!! 3) Today, one of the other ladies out of the usual 3 asked me not to explain my food order to another customer that had expressed interest in my lunch order. Personally I find that to be a violation of my first amendment rights as a U.S. Citizen...freedom of speech!! (even tho i don't know what her problem was??) Anyways.... after dinning here a prolonged amount of time, and getting sick of eating the same food all the time....it's their lack of boundary that makes me eat here less and less.... not to mention all the new places that keeps opening up in Flushing and other cheaper eating options on Main. This place I would avoid totally next time! Let's not talking about food tasting but the attitude in prepare food. Picture shows a freshly pressed Korean cold broth noodle soup, however that's a lie. There is absolutely no facility inside shop for them to be able to do that. False advertisement. When the order was read what they prepared was totally different ...there is a $5 deposit. For the Koran cold noodles there was no topping! When asked they said toppings are in the bottom . Cheap is not low quality. read more

Pass by couple times and wonder why there is so many customer here? I ordered mild spicy beef noodle soup for $9.00. The order was pretty huge. Filled with green vegetable, clear noodle and sliced ribeye beef. The broth was pretty bland. The red dipping sauce brought the whole noodle soup to life. I don't know what's inside the sauce, but it taste like red bean curd mixed with Korean red hot pepper paste. I dipped everything in the noodle soup with red sauce. I'm gonna come back to try Korean Bibimbop. read more

This is one of the original Ma La Tang spots in the heartland of Flushing. I got introduced to Ma La Tang in this spot and I have patroned here ever since. What makes Han Song Ting special is the red chili bases sauce they make. They will guard that sauce like liquid gold. However if you buy the Ma La Tang, they will freely refill for free. The vegtables are fresh and they use very little oil in their cooking. This allow the natural flavor of the fresh food to come through. The price is average for Flushing area and they have another spot in New World Mall. I like other dishes on their menu too such as "Ban Fan", "Tufo Bao", Dumplings, and more. This place is a gem secretly tucked away in a old beatup mall, but you can tell it is good just by seeing all the Chinese people slurping everything down like their own mama's cooking. read more

Favorite Ma La Tang spot. Price is fair for the amount of food you get. The accompanying sauce is so delicious and is really what makes Han Song Ting stand out from their competitors. I can't really comment on the other stuff they offer because the ma la tang is the only thing I order here. If you get it to go, I would recommend that you ask them to separate the soup, which is going to be an extra $0.25. The ladies are nice and friendly. This stall is located inside the plaza located on the corner of Main Street and 37 Avenue. They also have a stall inside the New World Mall Food Court on Roosevelt Avenue. read more

My all time favorite ma la tang spot in Flushing. Been going to them since their old location by busy mall. I usually get the beef ma la tang with no seaweed and extra rice cake. What really sets them apart is their sauce. I've never had a better sauce anywhere else in flushing read more
