Ever since my favorite boba place, It's Tea, closed, I've been on the hunt for a new go-to spot. After many boba spots, numerous punch cards, and many disappointments, I finally found the one! Hana Tea was recommended to me by a friend and it's been my new favorite boba spot. I've tried the brown sugar milk tea, chocolate latte, passionfruit yuzu tea, ube latte, peach green tea lemonade, lychee tea and peach green tea. So far my favorites are the passionfruit yuzu and lychee tea at 50% sweetness. Everyone working there is so kind and friendly. They always ask if I have my punch card so I can accumulate a free drink and are very quick from ordering to preparing the drinks. The spot itself is adorable and trendy. There's plenty of seating available for small groups to hang out. Hana Tea is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly. read more

Not impressed. I miss Ding Tea. Hana Tea's classic milk tea (my go-to boba drink at all boba shops) and service is okay. What really gets to me is that you can order drinks without ice. I will let my drink sit, so I don't want my tea to get watered down. However, they purposely short you if you don't get ice. I'll be going to Sun Tea for my boba fix from now on. I'm from California where there is no shortage of boba places around. After seeing some of the positive reviews for Hana Tea, I decided to stop by between the airport and going on a Costco run. (It's only half a mile from the Costco on Alakawa Street.) I had the AMG Smoothie (an avocado smoothie with smashed mango and grapefruit). I would have liked it to be more creamy than icy. Nonetheless, it was a good drink. I had it with soy milk (they will ask what kind of milk you want with this drink), 50% sweet, and brown sugar boba. The fruit was fresh. My friend and I decided to stop by the new Hana Tea in Kaka'ako for some boba and we had a good experience! I did park across the street since we knew we were going to be in and out and I didn't know until we left the store but they do offer 20 minutes of free parking inside their parking structure! The ambiance of the store is very cute (that's the best way I can think to describe it) and there's tables with some bar top seating if you wanted to sit down to study or catch up with a friend. Their menu is the same as the other Hana Tea in Pearl City so there is a large variety of options to choose frI ordered a brown sugar milk tea with regular boba & 75% sweetness which tasted exactly like how I expected to. My friend ordered a classic milk tea with lychee jelly & 75% sweetness which my friend thought was a little sweeter than she had liked it to be but that was most likely due to the lychee jelly. The service was quick and the drinks came out very quickly as well. Our drink cups even had some cute little handwritten note on it which we thought was a cute detail! I am a big fan of Hana Tea, they have so many positive reviews and for good reason. They are in a great location that's easy to get to and the prices are reasonable. This is my favorite place for tea and I always try and stop when I am in the area. I like to always try something different and I have never been disappointed. My go to drinks are the Mango Black Tea and the new Passion Fruit Guava Tea, 25% sweetness is plenty for me and less ice. Both drinks are tasty and refreshing and hits the spot. I have had the classic milk tea with foam as well and that one can be addicting. Service is sometimes slow but the place is poplar and the wait is worth it. The staff is professional and they have never messed up my order and I appreciate the service. They are always welcoming & friendly and thats what keeps me coming back. I almost wasn't going to get boba on my trip to Hawaii, just cause I had a feeling it didn't have too big of a scene here. Compared to the west coast, the prices here are pretty cheap, especially for an artisanal-looking and tasting milk tea. I'm actually sad that I got a medium sized drink rather than a large, but I was testing the waters. Their options are intriguing, Asian, and fresh. I wish the boba places I lived near at home had some of their topping options, actually. The tea strength was in general very adequate and above average, and it did not taste like anything was diluted. Have to give Hana Tea major props for being a modern Asian-forward tasty boba tea place. - Honey Genmai Milk Tea (M) with brown sugar boba (50% sweetness, less ice) Genmai is my favorite tea, and I absolutely tasted its yummy nuttiness! I think 50% sweetness was good even with the brown sugar boba (I tend to like things less sweet), and I didn't expect them to decorate the cup with the brown sugar smears! The ice amount was also perfectly "less", although to be honest, since it's Hawaii... the "less" definitely showed after a few minutes in the car, haha. Its been a while since I've been here. I used to come when you had to order your drink online and wait for it to pick up in the front because of COVID & I collected a bunch of stamp cards. Decided to make my way here after finding 4 stamp cards that added up to 10 being filled for my free drink. The free drink can be ANY SIZE, any drink and 2 toppings! I'm pretty basic so I usually get the milk tea with cheese foam and boba. Sooooo good. The boba is warm when they put it in that the drink taste a while to get fully cold. The cheese foam is really salty but it adds that sweet salty taste to the milk tea with is pretty satisfying to me. I love that they offer these stamp cards. 10 drinks gets you a free drink. Because not alot milk tea places offer it, and who doesnt love a free drink?! Lol Parking is a bit rough. Tight spaces and limited parking. Hana tea is always good. We often get brown sugar milk tea and jasmine milk tea. Their milk teas are really creamy and pair well with boba and creamy cake. I get my drinks at 50% sweetness. Finally here for the first time after hearing my friends raving about this place for a hundred times already. I like that they have a simple menu without any fancy names or limited editions. I tried the oolong milk tea 50 % sweetness with boba. And it was puuuurfect! Tea had a very strong aroma and was very smooth. I could taste the milk but it wasn't overpowering. Boba was fresh and chewy. And the best part of this tea was the sweetness. It really was 50% sweetness! How many times I asked for 25% or 50% sweetness at other places and it came out to be 125% or 150%. To me the sugar should not be the focus of the drinks but the tea and milk. Even when I am visiting Hawaii, I have to get my boba fix! I was craving so badly for my usual grapefruit green tea and my friend took me here. She lives in Hawaii and has been to Hana Tea before so I knew it had to be good. She knows how serious I am about boba/tea drinks AND how particular I am since I am from SGV, where you can literally get any type of boba or drink that meets your expectations. I am more of a fruit tea person than milk tea so I knew what I wanted when I took a first glance at the menu. I got Watermelon Grapefruit Smash. My 2 favorite things together! Havent seen this combo back home too. My friend got Guava Passionfruit Oolong Tea. SO HAWAII, haha. She enjoyed it! She said it was a little sweet even with customized sweetness, but that was informed before we ordered by the staff. I always get my drinks half sweet with light ice and I have to say, my drink was almost perfect! I loved my drink so much. I just wished they went light ice with it. Even with my request, it wasnt really 'light ice'. BUT!!! Nonetheless, my drink was amazing. It was a perfect blend of watermelon & grapefruit. It was delightful. I am not too sure but because watermelon is often seasonal, I wonder if this a seasonal item. But then, it's Hawaii. I dont even know. I cant come to Hawaii just for this drink, haha. Not because I won't but because I dont have time due to my work schedule. Also, I want to add that the staff here is super friendly. My wife ordered the Brown Sugar Milk Tea (100 sweet, 100 ice) and I went for the Very Berry Smoothie (25 sweet, 100 ice), both were quite good. Actually, I quite liked mine. They're consistent with their drinks, they have unique add in options, they offer vast flavors, and their drinks are refreshing and delicious. I've been coming here since they first opened and have always gotten their milk teas. Lately, I've been in the fruit tea mood for drinks. I'm a huge fan of their Mango Black Tea so I decided to try something new and order the Lemon Black Tea. I get 0% with the Mango Black Tea so chose 0% for the Lemon Black Tea. It was a little more tart than I expected but hey, it's lemon. There were also bits of lemon and lemon seeds in the drink. Came with some friends on a Thursday afternoon. We put in a phone order and came to pay/pick up. The whole process was relatively quick, although we had to wait a bit in line to pay. We got a genmaicha milk tea, jasmine milk tea, and oolong milk tea, all with brown sugar boba. The genmaicha was way too sweet even at 25% sugar, and the sweetness overpowered the delicate notes of the tea. The toasty, nutty flavor that genmaicha usually has was missing. My friend described it as sweet milk, to which I would agree (and was thus a little disappointed). The jasmine had a really interesting floral note to it that I don't think I've had at other boba places, but is also not something I'd want to try again. By far, the best tea was the oolong. It was a little more on the mild side than I liked, but it had a faint roasted undertone and had better flavor than the other two drinks because there was some depth to it. The boba itself was really good. The texture was perfect, not too chewy but also not too soft. And it had good brown sugar flavor to it. All in all, not a bad drink. I would recommend 0% sweet if you like your drinks with less sugar, since the boba already adds a bit of sweetness. A solid place to get your boba fix. Parking: small strip plaza with decent parking. Most people here grab and go, so you'll be able to get a spot. Ordering: most people around here know you have to order ahead of time and just pick a pickup time. We came here and ordered on the spot, and waited only about 15 minutes before we got our drinks. We tried: 1) Fresh milk with honey boba: YUMMMMM! Boba was absolutely fantastic! Almost as good as Truedan's. Great job! 2) Milk tea with honey boba: my personal preference, but I felt like milk tea was too sweet and a bit overwhelming to go with brown sugar boba. I would probably just do fresh milk next time 3) Passionfruit yuzu green tea with honey boba: yummy! TL;DR: I come here for rich, creamy brown sugar milk tea, genmaicha milk tea, or matcha latte with strawberry boba, even though I generally prefer traditional boba (milk) teas. Tea aficionados will find out tea flavors are rather weak here. Not long after I posted my last review, I found another place that I would consider my favorite boba on Oahu--It's Tea in Kaka'ako! Back in early 2019, word about Hana Tea spread like wildfire so much that I first heard of it not from social media, but by word of mouth from a friend who doesn't even use social media. A lot has happened with my relationship with boba since then. Now, Hana Tea has a lot of serious competition, including many in Kalihi alone. Tea Time Taiwan, S7 Icy Bubble, Heeretea, and Shaka Shaka are all serious contenders! Brown sugar milk drinks have exploded on Oahu since the start of Hana Tea. Hana's tends to be on the milkier side and tends to melt once it reaches home in Aiea, unlike other brown sugar milk drinks. Fortunately, another Hana Tea opened in Pearl City, so drinks from that location shouldn't melt as much. If you're a legit tea lover like I am, you may end up disappointed by Hana Tea as most of their better drinks are on the creamier and sweeter side. The peach green tea is pretty good, but much of their iced (milk) teas have weaker tea flavors. The new HK lemon black tea contains slices of an entire lemon, and I couldn't taste the tea. For actual tea with boba, head to It's Tea or Tea Time Taiwan. Some things Hana Tea gets right: sweetness levels can be customized, Hana Tea has tons of topping choices (Dalgona crunch and strawberry boba are pretty unique and tasty!), and they have an organized online ordering system/stamp card program, if you're into those perks. There's plexiglass set up along with three different ways of ordering drinks via online at their website, text or phone call. Debated whether to indicate ASAP or next time available for pick up. Decided to trust my intuition, indicated ASAP for pick up time. After I placed my order online via website, I noticed my phone was circling and unsure if order went through. Surprisingly, finally received my email. Male worker must've noticed that my phone took longer than usual, kindly offered to ask what my drink name is under. I gave him my name and within less than 5 minutes, my large Thai Milk Tea with normal ice, 50% sweetness, and brown sugar boba was ready. 5/5 for intuitive and efficient customer service, free parking, ease of placing online order, finally got a buy 10 drinks and get 1 free card. My first time at Hana Tea! I went here right when they opened and there wasn't a line. I saw that most people ordered online. At first I didn't know what to order but some of my family has been here so I asked them what's popular and they recommended the brown sugar milk tea with cheese foam and mini boba. They also have different sizes. Their menu isn't as complicated as you think, but I was just not ready for the questions because it was very new to me haha! They also share a parking lot with others so that was super convenient. My friend and I both ordered a large Passionfruit Yuzu ($4.95) with zero sweetness and brown sugar boba ($.75). The boba was just as good as everyone had been telling me! I also loved that the tea was very fresh, although we both were not a huge fan of the yuzu part- we felt it was a bit too citrusy (we had wanted just passionfruit but they didn't have that). I also ordered my mom a large Jasmine green Tea ($3.75) with brown sugar boba ($.75) and grass jelly ($.50) and she loved it! She said they gave her a ton of grass jelly and boba. They finally reopen a town location and still reasonable priced despite they are at Kakaako now. They did took over Ding Tea, spacious interior. Parking - 20minutes in the building, many Yelpers mention already. Or you can find street parking around. I understand why many people like them because they are not so expensive, nowadays, many boba shops are charging $8-$10 for a drink. I got their ice Houjicha Latte again, ask for 50% sweetness and less ice. I didn't know the drink would come with boba (I guess is good? But I am not a big boba fan now. The boba is warm and chewy). The drink is okay, not strong houjicha taste, and after few sips, only can taste milk. I ask the cashier how sweet is 100% level, she couldn't answer because everyone taste bud is different which is true. Service is standard, not over and beyond. The new ordering system during the pandemic is very convenient and efficient. They allow you to make a phone order or online order, and they give you a time to come pick up your drinks. When you get there the staff is wearing gloves, masks, and face shields, and the cafe also has plexiglass screens installed for even more safety. Before the pandemic, when people were allowed to go inside their cafe, I was able to observe the environment. The cafe is very clean, aesthetic, welcoming, and cozy. This place is perfect to take photos with your orders or if you are on social media. The service here was wonderful, the staff is always very friendly and bring your order to your table for you. Our orders are always perfect when we go to Hana Tea and the staff is very attentive and eager to help you. From the smallest details such as rounding the bottom of the cups, adding a heart shaped stopper to the drinks, or adding cute text to the cups, the attention to detail is exceptional and adds extra flare to your visit here. I ordered the chocolate banana smoothie with 100% sweetness (I love sweet!) and the brown sugar milk tea with brown sugar boba, creamy cake, and brûlée foam. The chocolate banana smoothie was very creamy and smooth. The smoothie was very well blended and the sweetness as well as the flavor was amazing. The balance of banana and chocolate was perfect. The milk tea was very creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. You could taste the brown sugar in both the boba and the milk tea, and the drink was very balanced. The creamy cake was very creamy as the name suggests, and it added an extra layer of smooth creaminess and flavor. The brûlée foam didn't alter the drink that much, and I think it would've tasted the same without it, but it may have been the drink that I got. Messed up our order three times in a row. But I didn't even bother correcting them the 3rd time. Not sure why they kept making errors and serving the other people that ordered after us before making everything right. Didn't even offer any type of free drink or discount for their mistakes and our time wasted waiting. It wasn't even that busy too. Like 3 other parties. A bit disappointed with this place and their service. One star for good mini boba! read more
