Dominique is one of the most incredibly talented and effective massage therapists you could ever hope to find. As someone with fibromyalgia i've struggled to find a massage therapist who understands my condition enough to treat me effectively. She has a passion for her work and really listens to her clients to create a considered plan for their session unique to their needs. She practices with care, responsiveness and a wealth of knowledge shown in her wide range of skills and massage styles. She has become an indispensable part of my health care team that helps me function. There is truly no better place to be when you feel like shit than on her table and in her capable magic hands. This is strictly for the management and front staff of the store. I have been in and out of the hospital over the last 15 months. Sepsis attacks and solid organ transplant. I have constantly called to pause or freeze my account. Usually while in the hospital or ICU and to amazement I kept getting charged. They promise a manager would call but they never do, but send a text message leaving a tiny window of 10:45-12 as a call back. Thank you Brianna who apparently is the director! When my wife tried to call again during that window she was told by the rep she would be connected and then told it went straight to voicemail after the rep had just spoken to Brianna. Apparently my wife will get a call back within 24 hours. She's not holding her breath. Now my account is overflowing in "free" massages that my doctors won't let me use. Don't give these people your business there are tons of other organizations/priavte masseuses who will work with you, any issues you have, and respect you as a client. read more

Hand and Stone is a tried and true favorite! All the staff members are welcoming and professional. I've gotten facials from Melvi and Jamelle, two knowledgeable estheticians who have honed their craft. Over the years, the whole family has gotten facials and massages here! It helps that parking here is easy. It alleviates a lot of the stress that comes with Bay Area commuting. We always leave feeling more invigorated than when we arrived. read more

His only complaint was how aggressive his massage therapist was about getting another membership and to schedule the next appointment. i am beginning to regret this decision! in spring 2023 i decided to get my first facial (i'm late 40's!) . i saw the introductory offer and must have been delusional afterwards to sign up with a $200 fee on top of massage/monthly fee for membership- they have increased the monthly $89.95 fee already to $99.95 and with the additional add-on's , it's not really a discount to be a member. i liked the option of alternating between monthly facials or massage, but as i'm requesting to pause my membership, they are making me jump through many hoops. i have absolutely loved my esthetician Melvy, but the massage therapists are not great. one was just oil rubbed around, one was hot stone and smelly mildewed hot towels, one was good deep tissue with bruises and when i chose her again, she could not give a medium-firm massage without bruises. the call center is not local, you can never speak to an actual employee or manager, there has been a "request" for me to pause membership awaiting manager's call-back and approval! along with that, they will charge me $10.mo for pausing! I had a great first experience at h&s. It's very welcoming with the scent of essential and calm vibe. The person at the front desk was very nice and helpful too. My massage was with Susan and she was awesome! She was sensitive to my problem areas and in tune to adjusting pressure as needed. It was just an overall really nice, calming, and soothing experience. This place used to be a gem, I would not recommend anymore. Definitely do NOT try to call them. You will be forwarded to an offshore call center that cannot do anything or even transfer you to the front desk. Decided to try a facial last month, 10 minute 'analysis' later, I was recommended $80 in add-ons! I said no thank you, but maybe I can use my points? 10 minute leave the room ask front desk etc. ugh. Not a great feeling or relaxing. Last few massages just weren't as good, very light touch. Very difficult to cancel your membership (see call center). Today my husband and I went to get a massage and a facial at the Alameda location. I was pleased with the facial, however I was not pleased with the massage, my massage was shorted 15 minutes Nicole kept on telling me to breathe, then started breathing hard to show me ( ridiculous and unacceptable) upgraded me for $15 for aromatherapy and a scalp massage but then only told me to breathe in some lavender and didn't give me a scalpel massage it was really odd waste of my money I was very clear with what I wanted and she did the opposite I told her I ran hot and the cool air felt good from the fan, yet she left the table heater on and then put a blanket over me and started massaging me with the blanket I was uncomfortable hot and sweaty read more

I was really hopeful that I would have a positive review for this spot, as I've heard it's amazing, but it is actually quite opposite. I came here to de-stress. As a nurse, I have some aches and pains and wanted to relax. As soon as I came in, I filled out paperwork. Upon returning it I was asked how my New Years was. Small talk was being made. That was fine. I went on to my massage. The therapist was sweet and did a good job, but she got too close to me at the end of the massage and made me feel uncomfortable. I had a slight negative vibe after I dressed and left the room. The reason why I am only giving two stars is because when I checked out, I was made to feel like I had to schedule another appointment in 3-4 weeks... if it it was something that needed to be scheduled again like waxing, or nails, etc. I was being pushed and prodded. 3-4x I was asked why I didn't want to make another appointment. I felt very uncomfortable. It felt more like a sales interaction that a spa setting. I finally said "I am shopping around. Can't commit to you." I felt very awkward and won't be returning. I see they want business, but they should change the approach. Make it nice, calm, inviting and people will want to return. You won't have to beg them. read more

After I gave my feedback last time, I was offered to come back for a complimentary facial with the lead esthetician and she did a much better job for sure. When I was checking out, they pitched their membership which I immediately declined, but then they offered to waive the initial membership fee so I decided, okay why not. I went in for another facial with Stephanie, the lead esthetician. She recommended a few upgrades (glycolic peel, LED brightening, Nu Face) which totaled an additional $130. The whole service took 50 min, probably less of actual hands-on time considering she was prepping a lot. And there was no shoulder massage. It was the same last time, I don't get it. Everywhere else I've gotten a facial, there's always a shoulder massage. So let's do the math: The monthly membership fee is $90 so that's the base facial price + $130 upgrades = $220 for a 50ish minute facial with no shoulder massage, before tip. That is really pricey. That's closer to the price point of a high-end spa, but this isn't that. And at least at a high-end spa there would have been a shoulder massage. I ended up giving this feedback to the front desk before I left. They were polite and apologetic. I really want to like this place. Everyone I've interacted has been really nice. The price point is just too much for me, unfortunately. read more

Horrible customer service. I was a member at a neighboring location. My account was on hold when that location in Marin closed. This store somehow "inherited" my account and has been charging me ever since (over a year now). I have never step foot in this store. I have called multiple times to stop my membership and each time the store tells me they cannot and must have a manager call, but no one ever does. The atmosphere is calm and I like the music that's played during the services. But this review is more for the services I've had recently! I come regularly for massages and throw in a facial here and there. Dominique has been my go-to for massages. Now, for years! And has only gotten better with time and experience! She's always able to pinpoint exactly where I'm ailing and work through the issue, and then can tell me the muscle she worked and how it connects to others. I really enjoy my time at Hand and Stone Alameda CA. The reception staff is very friendly and helpful. Facials- (fourth visit) Jamelle is wonderful. Very nice, and calm. She is also very knowledgeable, and we discussed my skincare needs. I have allergies, so she checked the ingredients of all of the products to make sure they were safe for me. Her technique is very soothing, and I feel very relaxed. My skin is definitely starting to improve. Massage (first visit) Dominique is an amazing massage therapist. She is very outgoing, smiley, and friendly. She is also very accepting of your concerns, anxieties, etc. She is very knowledgeable, and provided information that I have never been given from any other massage therapist. She studies to learn about different medical conditions and how she can help. The massage was perfect, and I will continue to see her. I highly recommend both of these amazing women. read more

I've been a member at this location for years, and in the last few years the service and management have gone downhill. In July 2023, when I temporarily cancelled my membership, I had over 15 paid service credits on my account. The manager told me they would waive the 90-day grace period because of my large credit balance and will noted it on my account. Yesterday, when I booked my massage over the phone, I was told 3 credits were left. However, that didn't match what I had in my record that I had kept track of. I didn't make a big fuss over it on the phone. As I was getting ready to check-out after my massage, I was told that since I'm no longer a member, my credit on my account is worth $90 and I would need to pay the difference of $100 for the non-member price. I explained to the manager that my 90-day grace period was waived and that it should be noted on my account. She said there was no note that it was waived. Not only was I asked to pay for the difference, my service credits changed from 3 to 2 in less than 5 hours. When I questioned about the service credits, she simply replied that the person made a mistake. I'm extremely dissatisfied with Hand and Stone's management. They did not honor their promise and CHEATED my credits. I will never step foot at Hand and Stone and will NOT refer friends and family to this establishment. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE. read more
