Only pork available for dumplings. Ordered the scallion pancakes and vegetable pan fried noodles with bean curd sauce. The scallion pancakes were definitely lacking in flavor. It was more just fried dough, but how could anyone not like fried anything? The vegetable pan fried noodles were delicious! Loved the flavor and the texture of the noodles. Hard to decide between two and three stars on this one. It kind of sucks but I've had worse. Especially in the area. Delivery is super fast. Hand pulled noodles are ok. I think they'd be better pan fried or anything but in a soup. They are firm but get soggy in the soup pretty quickly. The soup itself is ok, a bit on the salty side. When you order the hand pull noodle soup they offer you two options of broth, beef or spare ribs. I tried the beef one with just beef. It was ok, smelled nice with that sweet spice. A bit salty. The beef was slices of boiled beef. Passable. If you don't want it with their hand pull noodles, they offer three other options. The dumplings kind of suck here. Funniest thing is that the streamed ones are better than the pan fried ones, despite having a similar filling. They're both pork and chive filling, but for some reason taste differently. 8 pieces an order. The fried ones are definitely pan fried, and nothing at all similar to the type you'd find in Chinatown. I don't mind pan fried, but something was just off about these. I also got an order of steamed mix vegetables, which was mainly overlooked bok choy and some cabbage. Having yet another craving for dumplings I stumbled upon Hand Pull Noodle and Dumpling House while scrolling through yelp search suggestions. The drive was well worth it and I got a parking spot right in front, thankfully. I ordered the pan fried dumplings and a sesame pancake. The pan fried dumplings were big, juicy, and had the right amount of crunch on the outer shell. The sesame pancake was different from any I've ever had; It was cut into small pieces. It may have been different but it was good. Overall, I enjoyed the food and I will return to try some of the other dishes on the menu. read more

Very surprised that they received a "Yelp Loves Us" sticker! I live near this restaurant, and although it is not in the main part of 18th Avenue (64th street - 68th street) - it is definitely a popular joint. This restaurant is very unique. It's in the corner of the block, and is very cramped inside. I would suggest to order out instead of sitting since they have limited seating. When it says it's 'hand pulled', the noodles are literally hand pulled. [Sometimes you get to see the chef making the noodles!] For a decent price, you get freshly made noodles with tons of toppings and flavor. That's not the only thing that is freshly made. I believe the dumplings and soy milk is also freshly made. It really takes back to the times when I make my trip back to Hong Kong and experienced real Chinese food. So again... not your average Chinese takeout joint. My grandma watched in awe as the focused chef kneaded and stretched the dough, whipping it through the air like it ain't no thang. "I'm gonna eat that" I said, like a mentally challenged child. So, I ordered the hand pull noodles with beef and an order of fried dumplings to go. They package up your food REALLY nicely. The beef (I think it was thin sliced short rib. Melty, yummy fat, tender flavorful meat) came in a rich, beefy broth with some bok choy and the noodles came separately so they didn't get all starchy and gooey. My grandma couldn't help but snag some of my meal, even though she had already eaten because the smell was intoxicating. We both agreed that the dumplings were perfection (aside from a few gristly fat balls). Savory and moist inside with a thin, crispy wrapper. The beef was mega tender and my only wish was that I had more bok choy, but only because I was caught in a ticker tape parade of meat. The noodles were obviously perfect. I really really wanted to like this place. My friend and I got take out from there He had the zhajiangmian and I had the braised pork slices in soup. The actual noodles were really tasty but after we ate we both got killer headaches and stomach aches. Encouraged by the 'Yelp loves us' sticker outside the store, I entered the Hand Pull Noodle and Dumpling House. It's your average hole in the wall place with humble decor. The place is pretty small, with five or so tables for seating. There weren't a lot of options, most of it were dumplings and noodles (not that I minded). They also sold rice with a 'brown sauce'. although my eyes were only trained on the 'hand pull noodles' section. Because I was having beef stew for dinner that night, I chose the fishball with the optional add-in of a fried egg to-go. The counter up front gives a great view of the kitchen. Two women and one man worked back there. It took around ten minutes for them to complete the noodles. On to the noodles... The noodles, slightly uneven in width were fresh, different from the regular dry noodles and pastas that I had so often indulged in. Portion-wise, they were extremely generous. I almost couldn't finish it. They had a good bite to them and accompanied the broth well. Some where thinner than others. The thicker ones had more chewiness. The subtle changes in texture was nice. The broth was relatively clear, a light brown. The scallions, cooked a bit by the broth, no longer had the harsh raw taste but still retained a crispness. Chopped pickled cabbage also accopanied my scallions. Both gave it a good kick of flavor. Some might not like the broth due to its somewhat mild taste, but I loved it since I was tired of the MSG filled broths in other places. There were a few bundles of baby bok choy, which were tender crisp. The fishballs were fuzhou style, with the chopped meat in the center. They were your standard fishball, springy and filling. They gave me around five fishballs. The only complaint I have is the fried egg I ordered was put at the bottom of the container, rendering it horrendously overcooked to the point where it wasn't edible. Not even the delicious broth could have saved it. If you want a fried egg with yours, tell them to place it separately. If you're looking for a warm, comforting, and delicious meal, stop by Handpull Noodle and Dumpling House. I for one, will be coming back for more, especially as winter rolls in. read more

I was never a fan of hand pulled noodles - never saw the point nor the hype, but after someone took me here for lunch, I found myself back there for dinner! The place is quaint. It seats less than 20 people at a time, and for all the times I've gone there (about 10), only once were they all taken. Instead of being upset with the lack of seats, I was actually happy for them. I'm glad that they are doing well, and that hopefully they will be around for the years to come. Aside from the amazing noodles, they do have dumplings available in steamed and fried. They're delicious, and even though I find myself there for the noodles, I always - more often than not - order a side of dumplings. The service is great, and the noodles are prepared fresh. The employees there do not know much English, but they have the spirit and the humor to try to communicate. Most of the time you just point to them what you want and that is that. This place has amazingly genuine Chinese food, down to delicious chicken feet. When my friend and I walked in, the decor immediately reminded us of the restaurants back in China. The noodles were delicious- I ordered the roast duck hand pulled noodles and I was pleasantly surprised by the huge bowl of noodles and enormous amount of roast duck I got. Is it great? No. Is it cheap? Yes. Is it anything to write home about? Definitely not. I ordered take out and my noodles were put into separate containers from the broth. Are the noodles anything special? I like them because they aren't prepackaged. But are they better? I don't think so. I believe that mine were put in cold water before getting out to me. So half was soggy and half wasn't. The broth was also nothing spectacular. It's very bland but it isn't that commercialized broth you get elsewhere. I had the beef one with beef tendon and beef stew. I tried the scallion pancakes wrapped with beef filling. I thought this was horrible. I can't believe I ordered this based on the reviews here. Everything in this dish has no flavor except for the sauce they drench it with. I thought I was going to get a mix of homemade flavors with commercialized elements but quite frankly, I wouldn't order from here again. Tasted like other hand pulled noodle places I've had in the 8th Avenue area. Not saying that the noodles aren't good or are bad, just that they're OK. Nothing that made me go, "Wow, I want to eat this again soon!" Portion sizes are generous. I ate my whole dish and half of the scallion pancake. SO STUFFED! The scallion pancake was disappointing though. The scallion pancake itself was disappointing as a scallion pancake. Very doughy, not nearly enough scallions. Also, maybe I'm just weird, but the beef inside tasted like cha shu to me. I don't get why people like this so much. It was pretty bland on its own, and we dipped it in the vinegar they gave us (which I'm not sure if it was for the noodles or this). Overall, not impressed. Might come back if I ever wanted hand pulled noodles specifically, but realistically, probably never going to step foot in this establishment again. We have eaten here a few times and each time the food was cooked perfectly and it tasted good. The make the noodles by hand right in front of you so you can see the place is very clean. There really is no place to sit down, the tables there are more for waiting than for eating. The prices are really cheap considering how good the food is. This place is amazing! I used to live closer, but today I took the train an hour from Manhattan and walked 1.5 miles from a friend's so I could eat here. I order the hand pull noodle with beef tendon and always buy a package of frozen dumplings to take home. The food is comforting and fresh. Previously I've ordered from delivery apps when I lived in BK and the food holds up well during travel. Other reviews have complained that the noodles stick together, but that's natural when transporting fresh hand pulled noodles and you don't want to transport them in the broth because their texture would change. Actually, two people ordered the soup while i was waiting for my dumplings. If i weren't in such a rush i would have stuck around to see what it looked like. For whatever reason my order for noodles never went through on seamless so I still can't speak on it I ordered chicken broccoli over rice for my kids and shredded chicken over rice dumplings and scallion pancakes I thought the shredded chicken over rice was promising but the texture of the chicken was horrible. I was once told some places inject the meat w water to expand and that's why its gummy textured (straight from a China man whos family owned restaurants) and this chicken was gummy textured. Yuck! This place is small but they make up for size with taste. the dumplings are great and it is very entertaining to watch the cook hand pull his noodle, pun intended. Fresh noodles are great. As far as cleanliness goes, didn't really look around too much because for me I was going to eat no mater what. The people that work there or own the place are very nice, not much English but you know how to order dumplings right ? This is the only hand pulled noodle shop in this area..next would probably be down on 8th ave, although I can't comment on those as a comparison. Great little shop with FRESHLY MADE noodles. I always get the house special..includes everything plus a fried egg on top. Get the scallion pancakes..they're cheap and delicious. The soup dumplings are not homemade but still are a good side for the noodles. Read a few bad reviews here..all from (surprise, surprise) gwai lo (foreigners/not Chinese) complaining about the lack of flavor in the noodles (this is from people who probably put spoonfuls of sugar in their tiny little cup of Chinese tea).
