So incredibly rude. I've been here so many times in the past and will never return again. I asked for a bagel and the girl LIED to me saying they didn't have it. Small shop with no seating so grab and go . Friendly staff and a small selection of bagels but more hot or cold sandwich options. Muffins,pastries and grill breakfast items- bacin sausage eggs etc. Tea, coffee and boba tea . The bagels were good. I'm a new yorker so my judgment on bagels is pretty fierce lol. I also expected a larger selection of bagels at a place called Hand Rolled Bagels , but I guess it was more indicative of the methods rather than the specialties. There was also a specialty bagel named a Flagel- a flattened bagel, hmm couldn't get with that just like I can't get into the idea of a scooped bagel. To each their own. Ordered a onion bagel with butter received a onion bagel with rasin cream cheese. Ordered a everything bagel with butter recieved a plain bagel with butter. It is all street parking but I didn't have difficulty finding a spot. I was helped very quickly but the staff was not welcoming. The location is very small and felt crowded even though there were only 5 customers including myself. The plain toasted bagel was made fresh and came with a generous amount of cream cheese. The breakfast sandwiches look pretty good too. My gripe with Hand Rolled Bagels isn't the food. The prices here are insane. A bacon egg and cheese, two buttered bagels, and 3 small coffees came out to almost $29. Like bro, these are bagels they cost next to nothing to make. The food here is good for a breakfast/ bagel spot. Personally, I think Lenny's is better and they won't bang you over the head. A broom closet bagel place that serves a fairly decent bagel with a small - perhaps shrink-flated - portion of salmon that ensures the fish is a garnish but not the main (that would be the tomato). But there isn't much competition 'round here, so what you get is what you get. Skip the fish and the price is probably more in order. Driving thru the area and wanted to stop outside of the city to grab breakfast. We saw this was a quick bagel stop so we decided to try it. My buddy and I both agreed the bagels are very good, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. But the rest of the ingredients left something to be desired. Don't get me wrong, it was still good and I'd go back. But I feel like nyc has a reputation to out of this world bagel shops so this one doesn't blow me away by any means but for $8 it's a solid option. I'm sure their bagels and cream cheese are very good but they have many things on the menu so I have to judge them off of the entirety. Listen, the Bagels were delicious, perfectly cooked. Perfect shape. great size/quantity/quality. Great availability, even late in the morning. The service was fine, too. However, the Coffee was no good, and the Prices are a little hefty. We got 2 coffees, 2 BEC's (Bacon Egg n Cheese) sandwiches on a bagel and 1/2 dozen bagels to go. I think the bill was between 30 and 40 dollars. There is NO Break down on Bagel Prices if you get 1, 6 or 12. That is disappointing. I know bagels aren't cheap, but buying a dozen or a 1/2 dozen should be at least a little bit of a break on price. The small upstairs dining room was dirty and there was no napkins available. I drank a few sips of my coffee and it was so bad, I threw it out. The others I was with ended up doing the same thing (without me saying anything). read more

(keep reading to find out) -- but let me add to the discussion, whats up with the customer service? Why are you guys so mean? I ordered a lox cream cheese and it rung up as $18 (for reference, minimum wage is still $13.20). I asked whether they thought I ordered something else. They shot me a disdainful look and said 'well if you can't afford it go somewhere else.' Like whoa, this is the neighborhood spot telling me i'm too poor to order a bagel? I said fine to paying $18 for a bagel, certainly being ripped off, but fine, I was hungry. I go to my car and see its a translucent swipe of cream cheese and a pinkys length of lox slapped on. I went back in an asked if they could give me a little plastic cup of cream cheese - i'll put it on myself, and maybe a little more lox if they're feeling up to it. it was an $18 sandwich, ya know? I speak to my daughter like a human being with respect because im a good person. The employee SCREAMED at my daughter and said "HEY! Stop that right now and get in your seat!" Totally ripped me off. I asked for whitefish salad, egg salad, and chicken salad. I said I wanted the next size down from the empty container on the counter. The man didn't respond and filled the containers out of my line of vision. They were not the minis but the next size up, that is, the size that I had said I didn't want. When I protested, he said, "That's the smallest size." So I told him to hold back the chicken salad. For the small containers of whitefish salad and egg salad and a small plastic bottle of OJ, he charged $32. I was in a big rush; he had filled the order already; and I was taken by surprise. I didn't want to make a fuss, so I just paid up. A normal shopkeeper would have shown the empty container to me before filling the order since it was obvious that he did not have what I had requested. He manipulated me and I fell for it. Handrolled Bagels is the glue that keeps Rye together--or rather, the cream cheese. Not only is the food absolutely divine, but the staff adds an exceptional flavor that lox spread just can't beat, although theirs comes pretty close. My usual is a plain bagel with lox spread, an order I'm sure they know very well. When the bagel is warm, it makes me feel grateful that I am alive in this world. The lox spread isn't too heavily mixed, and maintains the perfect amount and distribution of lox. I have so much admiration for this establishment, may it take over the world one day. There are other bagel places around, and in New York you can't be too disappointed; however, should you ever be graced with the honor of patronizing this promised land, never forget what heaven tasted like.
