Stopped by Handel's Homemade Ice Cream for dessert since it was just around the corner from our hotel, super convenient! I got the Graham Central Station, and it was really good. Very creamy with a nice honey graham cracker flavor that wasn't too sweet. Definitely a solid choice. You order through a window, and even with that setup, the service was friendly and fast. A great little dessert stop if you're nearby. Would happily come back.

Handel's is my go to for all things desserts and ice cream! As someone who doesn't consume dairy, they had so many sorbet alternatives that were made with real fresh fruit! Super great flavor and consistency, they also give some pretty large portions so it's definitely worth the money. I love how they have seating all around the lawn and so many unique sampler platters to choose from, highly recommend them for ice cream!

Ice Cream. Can you think of anything more nostalgic or refreshing on a hot summer/early autumn day? Most reviews for Handel's we read were fairly positive, some of our family members recommended it, ad photos were enticing....good start. Service was fine, but counter had ice cream dripped all over it from a previous customer. When I mentioned they might want to wipe it before serving us and the next guests in line, the server said, "We'll get to it." Seeing and tasting and experiencing are the definitive test and on the occasion of our visit, they fell quite short. When we looked at the large building, we assumed there would be seating inside. Nope...but plenty of ice cream coolers. (And....no shaded seating available.) We scanned the photos of the flavors posted and assumed we were in for a taste-treat sensation. Nope...read on. We decided to try the 4 scoop sampler and chose Peach, Black Cherry, Coffee Chocolate Chip, and Graham Central Station. The taste results: 1. Peach flavor was fair but had only one or two strands of real peach. Uh....not good. 2. Black Cherry also was fair but had NO cherries in it - pieces or otherwise. Totally misleading if you go by their photo in the window. 3. Coffee Chocolate Chip had an initial up-front coffee taste, but ultimately, after a few bites, tasted more like weak expresso. 4. Graham Central Station was the BIG winner and surprise for us. I loved it. My wife appreciated it. One out of four is a losing percentage in any endeavor. So, while we may return and try some of the other 48 flavors on hand....we are not singing "Hallelujah" for Handel's.

The menu board, so many choices.....

To be honest, I love a good ice cream place, so I was delighted to see Handel's which is new to me. Walk up windows on a nice green space that offers plenty of seating, it was a lovely stop on a beautiful evening. We were undecided and it being our first time, we all settled on the sampler. WOW! They don't mess around. 4 ample servings of the flavors of our choice. All of them were very good, but my favorite was the Salty Caramel Truffle. That alone would be worth the return trip.... which will be soon!

New to the Cool Springs area, Handel's Homemade Ice Cream is a perfect warm weather hangout for lovers of classic ice cream flavors in a relaxed outdoor venue. This place opened about 6 months ago but I tend to only eat ice cream in the summer so we've been waiting to try it. On a hot night, this place was absolutely packed, with a decent line that took about 7-10 minutes of waiting before placing an order. There is a QR code menu with a whopping FORTY-SEVEN flavors to choose from, mostly variations of classics. You can get ice cream in a cup, sugar cone, waffle cone, in sundae form, as a hurricane/blizzard, or a shake and they have a small selection of novelties and drinks (like a classic float, for example) as well. So lots to choose from while waiting in line, to say the least. Despite the line's length, it moves pretty quickly and you place your order at one of the 4-5 open windows and then wait nearby for your name to be called with your prepared order. I asked if there were any smaller sizes than a small, because a small is two generous scoops, which is honestly too much ice cream for me, but they don't offer anything smaller. It's $4.95 for a single scoop in a cup, so with the waffle cone, tax, and tip, came to about $14, which is just a wild price for flavors that are not particularly inventive or unique, to me. They have a 4-scoop sampler for $6.95, so maybe next time the move is to get that or honestly just share a small cup with another person - it's really that much ice cream. We were lucky to snag some of the last available outdoor seating (there is no indoor seating here and no roof/cover so I'd imagine this is a tough place to sit and enjoy your sweet treat on an inclement weather day), and while my pup enjoyed sitting and being greeted by his adoring fans (aka the under 5 crowd who kept dribbling ice cream on the ground for him to lick up), my dad and I genuinely enjoyed our ice creams. I liked my dad's flavor (pistachio, small cup) a bit more than mine (mint with Oreo, waffle cone) - I think they overdid it on the sweetness in my flavor, a bit, and my dad thought they used a less high fat cream than the other popular ice cream joint in this area, which he loved and he said he preferred this spot to other places we've been. I do really love the outdoor ambiance here - string lights, casual vibe, just a great outdoor hangout when you need a sweet treat. I think I'd personally prefer to stick to my tried and true spots, especially given the issue with size options and price, but would still come here and enjoy it if my family wanted to come. There's a really spacious parking lot in this area, but note on a busy night it can get completely full. We were able to snag one of the last available spots, but just beware parking might be a problem on a particularly busy night. Overall, great addition to the area and my dad in particular would like me to bring him back.

I enjoyed this place so much! It was very clean upon entry and the cashiers were knowledgeable about the menu. I was allowed to try many flavors before locking in on the flavor of choice for the day. 10/10 would come back. I don't even live in Hendersonville lol

Great spot. Wait wasn't bad at all considering how busy they were. Ice cream hit the spot, probably best banana split in town.

Staff told us they were not allowed to do that and could only serve from what was already in front. There was also a posted Kilwins "Handling Allergen Requests" notice stating that stores should not open a fresh tub, use separate scoops, or implement special handling procedures for allergy requests. I understand no ice cream shop can guarantee allergen-free food. However, families with celiac disease should know this location would not take even basic cross-contact precautions such as a clean scoop or clean/unopened tub. Because of that, my daughter could not safely order. Very disappointing experience. In Response to owner : Hi Ashley, I appreciate your response, but this actually highlights the concern. Saying that using a clean scoop or an unopened tub "would not make a product safer" is very troubling for families with celiac disease. Those steps may not eliminate all risk in a shared environment, but they absolutely can reduce one obvious source of gluten cross-contact: shared scoops and front tubs that may have been touched by cones, cookies, brownies, or other gluten-containing items. We were not asking Kilwins to guarantee that anything was gluten-free or allergen-free. We understand there is still risk in a shared environment. We were asking for basic cross-contact precautions so we could make an informed decision. What is disappointing is that Kilwins' policy appears to remove that choice entirely by refusing to take any special handling steps, even when a family clearly understands the remaining risk. For a child with celiac disease, being told that the store will not even use a clean scoop or unopened tub is not "keeping customers safe" -- it means the customer is effectively excluded from being able to participate. I appreciate that your intent may be to avoid misleading people, but the better approach would be to say: "We cannot guarantee no cross-contact, but we can use a clean scoop and unopened tub upon request." Families with celiac disease deserve accurate information and reasonable precautions, not a blanket refusal.
