    Spicy Tuna

Good luck with parking... Anyway, the service was friendly and efficient, and I ordered the 4-Hand-Roll set! All the rolls were delicious and filling, but my personal favorites were the Negitoro and Spicy Tuna, and I loved that each of them had their own distinct taste; I will admit, though, I got adventurous and ordered their Spicy Hotate, which I was not a fan of whatsoever. There was barely any spice, and I was not a fan of the texture. Nonetheless, you definitely get a lot of value for the money you spend at Handies, and I look forward to returning!

Went to grab lunch with my cousins. Had a reservation so was seated right away. The decor is super cute, with tons of rubber duckies and figurines. It's designed like a bar, so you can watch the chefs make the rolls. We opted for the scallop crudo and the hamachi crudo, which were delicious. I don't usually like scallops, but the sauce pairings really cut out any fish flavor. We all opted for the 3 hand roll set, which was $17. It included masu (tasty, a little spicy, probably my least favorite), hamachi (so yummy, smooth with lovely crunchy mix-ins), and spicy tuna (so good, just a nice light kick of spice, no fishy taste). My cousin has a lot of allergies and they were super great with accommodating her including gluten free soy sauce and substitutions for the spicy mayo in the spicy tuna roll. Overall, super yummy! Will definitely need to be back!

Can't go wrong with this handroll spot! Service is great and quick. It is smaller so it serves a more intimate setting. The quality of the fish in the handrolls and crudo are amazing for inexpensive prices. This is a spot that I will keep coming back to!

FANTASTIC hand roll bar! It competes with the best places I've had back home in Los Angeles. The interior was clean and staff were friendly. Dishes and hand rolls are small so order lots to try different dishes! We initially started with the 4 hand roll set. I really enjoyed the Negitoro of the 4. The hand roll set was good, but the crudo is where this place really shines!! Favorites: - Ume Mash Crudo - the miso coconut vinegrette is so unique and pairs really well with the fish! - Maguro Crudo - ponzu sauce was SO refreshing and quality of the tuna was exceptional. Honestly, you could order ANYTHING on the menu and it would be delicious. I highly recommend Handies Douzo!

This place serves fresh sashimi and hand rolls!!! I can confidently say everything on the menu is great!! I particularly love the scallops crudo. Service was great and friendly, and it's a small place where people sit at the bar so it does get packed super quickly specially during lunch time. Great value, quick service, and tasty hand rolls. 5 hand rolls for under $30 is fantastic. Fun atmosphere - it's super clean and you're in and out within an hour. Definitely not a fancy fancy spot for a date night, but would come here if you're in the area and craving some sushi!

All time favorite sushi spot in Houston. Corking fee so you can bring your favorite bottle or two, crudo options are the best in town, and their tuna... good God, the tuna. Toro, chutoro, and otoro... mouth watering and will have you itching to order more. That's not even mentioning the handrolls which are spectacular as well. Service is great, vibes always outstanding, and a spot I often recommend to friends and family visiting Houston. Hard to find a negative comment or experience.

If only Handies Douzo was "all you can eat!" This was my first time here but I will definitely be back (maybe within the next week or so). I got the 4 hand roll set which includes BGB Sake, Negitoro, Spicy Tuna, and Avocado hand rolls. The fish and toppings for each roll complimented each other so well. If I had to choose two favorites, it would definitely be the Spicy Tuna and Avocado hand rolls since they both have a nice added crunch! In addition to the hand roll sets, Handies Douzo offers sashimi, crudo, and a la cart hand rolls. Of course, I got one of each. I tried the hamachi sashimi, kanpachi crudo, and one more avocado hand rolls after loving it so much. The kanpachi crudo was delicious and served very beautifully, but the hamachi sashimi was extra bomb! Definitely melted in my mouth. Service is really friendly and the chefs whip up the hand rolls and other dishes pretty fast. Right when you finish a hand roll, they'll have the next one in the set ready on your plate for you to grab. The bar set up is really fun as you can interact with others, and the selection of rubber ducks around the bar is entertaining. Parking can be a bit difficult as there is a limited amount of spots on-site but I was able to find nearby street parking pretty easily. Last thing I will say (cos I'm just going on and on about how much I love this spot) is they have off-menu items! Do with that what you will :)

Been visiting this location and heights location for years and I can say one thing... Handies is my favorite hand roll bar. Like ever. Anywhere. They're always quick and efficient. I can get in and out under an hour without feeling rushed. Food is also consistent. Love!

Fantastic and delish! Fun handroll place in Montrose. Handies Douzo is a popular place in my friend group. It was my first time at this one. They had great service. We were able to snag a 5:00p reservation day of on a Friday. We ordered the 4 and 5 piece handrolls as the 5 piece has shellfish in it but the 4 did not. We also ordered two extra dishes. This was able to fill us up. Everything was delicious. The spicy crab and the avocado hand rolls were my favorites. Our drinks were also really good. All in all, worth the money spent. Definitely would go again!

This place is such a vibe in the evening. Love the duck theme which gives such a cool/hip ambiance to the place. Seating is surrounded by the chefs making the sushi/handrolls. I love the culture the workers have here, they look like they're having so much fun, and also they don't hesitate to converse with the customers! I ofc got the 5 hand roll set which made a great introduction to the place, including their Saketoro Carpaccio Crudo. 5 hand roll set: BGB Sake - 10/10 Negitoro - 8/10 a tad bit too salty but still good! Kani- 9/10 Spicy tuna 10/10 Avocado 7.5/10 Saketoro Carpaccio - 10/10! SO good. I also got a taste of the hamachi hand roll from my partner and it was 10/10 I'll definitely get that next time. Honestly pretty solid place, love the intimacy. I especially love the seaweed wrapper they use here. It gave such a great crunch. Yum!!

Another location of Handies, and this time in Montrose. There's parking up front and it's a sushi bar style setting. Difficult with a larger group but not bad for a smaller group. Their rolls are good but pricey; fish quality seem decent. Tuna, hamachi, trout, and scallop form the majority of the options. However a lot of their rolls start tasting very similar after you've had one or two. The crudo's are decent as well.

I really loved the vibe of the restaurant too, it's small but has a homey vibe that would be great for either a small group hangout or a date. There's a lot of bars to visit nearby too. Parking was a little tricky, but street parking a few blocks away ended up being the best option. I came for happy hour (4-6pm) and sat at the bar. I was surprised you could make reservations for happy hour, but I was still able to walk in and find a seat at the bar without much issue. I ordered a mix of items from the happy hour menu and was impressed by the variety and how reasonable the prices were for the quality. Portions are on the smaller side, but that's expected for a higher-end sushi spot. I especially enjoyed the different sauces and soy variations that came with each dish--it really elevated everything. I tried the tuna, hamachi, fried tempura-style fish, handrolls, and nigiri. The hand rolls were the only miss for me; the filling-to-rice ratio felt a bit off and the seaweed was on the chewier side. To finish, I had the fried milk ice cream dessert (not part of happy hour), and it was honestly one of the best restaurant desserts I've had in a long time. Overall, happy hour is a great way to try a wide range of dishes--both hot and cold--and explore more than just raw fish. I don't drink, so I can't speak to the cocktails, but the drink menu looked solid and diverse.

For the price being charged I expected flavors or techniques that would separate it from other strong sushi options but that never quite happened. Everything was pleasant yet ultimately unremarkable. I was very surprised. And my broth was so delicious. It had such a rich umami flavor due to the miso & I thought the spice level was perfect. Honestly - I could eat jhst that broth for a whole meal. Unlike buldak or some other spicy ramens - the main selling point wasn't the spice. You could get an additional "spice bomb" if you wanted some more heat. The ramen toppings were good but not outstanding - same with the noodles. I thought the "mi-so-hot" was easily 3x better than "the og". The broth in "the og" was pretty interesting and more unique tasting. It felt like the main notes were just umami, pork, and oil. Not bad, but felt like it was missing a little something to make it truly good. If I had just got the OG, I'd rate this place a bit lower - but as it stands I'd 100% come back here for the "mi-so-hot" The interior was pretty nice. It was more "communal style seating" with a couple of big tables. There is also some smaller booths. It's an "order at the counter" type restaurant as well.
