    Spicy Tuna Handroll
    Syeda H.

Came here in the afternoon for a quick lunch. During the day, it was easy to find street parking, but could be difficult in the evening. It is a small restaurant inside of a house with U- shaped bar seating. The service here is good. My sister and I ordered the 3 Handroll Set and added on the Holy Shiitake roll. Out of all of them I enjoyed the Masu the most. There was a lemony taste that complemented the fish. While the other rolls were not bad, I found the crispy shallots overwhelmed the fish. When I tried the fish separately, it was nice and fresh, but together in the roll it gets lost.

Let's keep this short and sweet. Parking is challenging as it's limited to street parking. Customer service was amazing. Everyone was attentive, but not annoying. Ingredients were very fresh and delicious. Price was amazing for the amount of food you get!

I'd describe this place as pretty mid and overpriced. I ordered the maguro crudo along with two hand rolls--yellowtail and spicy tuna. The food was good, but nothing really stood out or impressed me enough to justify the price. The seating situation made the experience worse. It's extremely cramped--I had someone next to me constantly bumping elbows with me, which made the whole meal uncomfortable. Definitely not an enjoyable dining atmosphere. Parking is also a hassle. There are only about eight spots available, so if you don't arrive early, you'll likely have to find street parking. Overall, it felt like an expensive and uncomfortable dining experience that didn't live up to the cost.

Low-key one of the freshest sushi spots around. Every bite was clean, buttery, and perfectly balanced -- you can taste the quality instantly. Chill vibe, smooth service, zero misses. Reservations are advisable, seating fills up quickly.

The place is a Small sushi bar but quality taste. You do need a reservation and the parking lot is very tiny and limited. The hand rolls were crisp, warm rice, and perfectly made fish. Prices were very reasonable for quality hand rolls and I guess their thing is ducks because they were all over the place. The service was quick too my only thing is that I wished they would explain what each one is and what makes each roll special but maybe this isn't that type of place but it would definitely elevate the place in terms of service. I got the 4 handroll set, spicy hotate, and kenpachi crudo. I also added the kiui ringo cocktail. In the 4 handroll set included Masu-ocean trout with chili garlic and I really liked the spicy at the end of the aftertaste. Negitoro-paddlefish My favorite was the Spicy Tuna because it had that crunch with it from crispy shallots and normally I don't like shallots but it really worked with this roll. Avocado- this was also good it just wasn't memorable. The kenpachi crudo was an added on al carte for me and it was interesting in that the sanbaju and chili pepper with amber jack was flavorful doused in some sauce. The spicy hotate roll had scallops in it and some green onions in it and for some reason they made it so well that it didn't overpower the roll. The cocktail kiui ringo was very dangerous it was so tasty and I wanted more. It was sweet with a light apple taste and kiwi together it tasted like a jelly juice type thing and oriental with the flavors.

Perfect meal! My group of 4 split 2 crudo and each got the 5 hand roll set. We were hungry after a long day of travel and it was the perfect amount of food. Each bite had unique flavors and textures - nicely balanced and fun to try. Recommend trying as many things here as you can!

We were in the area doing some holiday shopping and decided to stop by this place for a light lunch. The place looks like a cute, small house with a giant u-shaped counter for diners. The menu is pretty small as they offer only handrolls, crudo and sashimi. We ordered the 5 handroll set (and another 3 handroll set later), kanpachi crudo and masu crudo. The handrolls are not the typical cone-shaped handrolls you normally see in sushi restaurants. These are just smaller, uncut maki rolls that you eat with your hands. They place your foods on the slate plate in front of you as they make them. Each of the handrolls we had were very tasty. I especially enjoyed the crunchy bits in the spicy tuna roll. The crudos were fabulous. The kanpachi crudo was light and fresh, with a lovely spice from the Thai peppers (you know they're there but they're not painfully hot). The masu crudo was also delicious but much lighter in flavor than expected from the chili garlic. I liked having the small plates of food and ordering more as we went when we were not completely satiated yet (and to also try more when we found something we really liked). When you're done, ask for the check and take it to pay at the register. Excellent place and will definitely return when I'm back in the area.

Absolutely delicious! One of my go-to spots for handrolls in Houston. I got the 5 handroll set, a spicy hotate handroll, and a masu toro crudo. Everything was so fresh, and the flavor pairings were impeccable. You really can't go wrong with at Handies. Some highlights of the meal were the masu and spicy tuna rolls as well as the spicy scallop. The scallop with the creamy and spicy sauce was one of my favorite bites of the night. The masu toro crudo was the star of the meal. The fresh, buttery fish with the spicy/savory sauce and the umami/woodsy flavor of the mushrooms was amazing. I would come back for that dish alone. I love the elevated atmosphere that this place has without being pretentious and the friendly service. Parking is mainly street parking.

Amazing sushi! Service was really great as well. I had a lychee sake drink that I chugged cause it was so good. There was one with Asian pear which was even better.

Another Hidden gem I adore. I'm not even big on eating raw sushi but this place has changed my life forever. I will be back!!!

As a patron and a repeat customer of Handies Douzo, I can say without a doubt that their quality of freshness and consistency in their food is what keeps me coming back every single time! Their customer service is always friendly and top notch! I got to try one of their off menu hand rolls today (I think it was an amberjack...) and of course, can't go wrong with the spicy tuna! The crispy fried shallots is a game changer! Their cocktails are on point and their lychee and yuzu cocktail is my favorite! Everything on their menu is worth a try but I wasn't a fan of their scallops roll....I am sensitive to texture and taste and that was not it! Love this place and will be coming back! Oh, and it would be great if the restaurant could replace some of their stools and they are very wobbly and quite uncomfortable to sit on while enjoying the delicious food

This is by far my favorite hand-roll sushi spot. I've been here 3 times and ordered the same thing each time. What I like about handies is consistency. Everything is made right in front of you. The ingredients are fresh & kitchen crew roll their sushi's with finesse. This is a cute location, it's basically a house. Parking can be challenging since it's street parking but be aware of the signs because if you park at the wrong area, you'll get towed. You can order your hand rolls by a la carte or by sets. We decided to order the 5 hand-roll set. It comes with BGB Sake, negitoro, kani, spicy tuna & avocado. You can also add bowfin caviar to your negitoro which I did. I also got the hotate that comes with 4 pieces of scallops. * BGB sake- comes with salmon. Crispy nori with warm fluffy rice that's rolled with sake? Perfection. Probably my favorite one since the salmon was fresh. 9/10 * Negitoro with caviar- this was outshined by BGB sake, but was still good. The caviar added the right amount of savory/saltiness into the roll. 8/10 * Kani- has that real lump of crab and not that imitation crab. The crab was fresh & soft. 8.5/10 * Spicy Tuna- loved it. They put either fried shallots/onions/garlic which added a nice crunch into the hand-roll. 8.5/10 * Avocado- fresh, simple but all the ingredients went well together. 8/10 * hotate (scallops)- fresh, light and the dish was well presented. Has a lot of elegance to it. 9/10 The nori seaweed they use is high in quality. It's crispy and very easy to bite through. I'm not a fan of chewy nori seaweed but in this case, this place delivered it in crunch and texture. Overall, this is my favorite spot for some hand-roll sushi's. Service is friendly and quick. I recommend you making reservations if it's for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This place is small so it will get packed quickly. It's a little on the pricy side but it's worth it. I can't wait to come back.

After this discussion, I said fine and asked for a menu. They then told me I had to get up and order at the register and view the menu glued to the counter. They took the order of a couple who sat down maybe 2 minutes before me in front of me. I will never come back to this place. I got the pan daiquiri as my drink to start and my friend got the herbed lavender lemonade. For food we shared the hamachi crudo, the chutoro nigri, the kanpachi nigiri, the A5 tartare, the kani handroll, The kinoko yasaimono, and the hot scallop dish to share. The pan daiquiri was SO good. The smokiness from the mezcal hits you first and then the sweet and creamy after taste takes over. It was so well mixed and I would highly recommend trying this if you are a mezcal lover like me. (9/10) The herbed lavender lemonade was too tangy and sweet for my liking. The lavender flavor get lost in the drink. It tasted like a typical lemonade, nothing special. (5/10) The hamachi crudo was so fresh and I really enjoyed the sweet and tangy broth. I'm not sure I would call it tom kha broth but it tasted good regardless and paired well with the tomatoes. (7.5/10) The chutoro nigiri was SO buttery and melt in your mouth delicious. I would definitely get this again. (8.8/10) The kanpachi nigiri was fresh and I enjoyed the sauce paired with it. It was my first time trying amberjack and I liked it. (7/10) The A5 tartare was super unique and well seasoned. There was plenty of tartare compared to the amount of milk bread you are given to eat it with. The uni, caviar, pate and waygu all mixed together was a decadent combination full of flavor. My only note was the contrast in temperatures that I did not love, the tartare came cold while the milk bread was warm. Overall, a very luxurious and tasty dish. (8/10) The kani handroll surpassed my expectations. Typically I don't go for crab first, but I did enjoy the flavors paired with the crab and the hand roll was well filled. (7.8/10) The kinoko roll (king trumpet mushroom roll) really surprised me. I was weary about getting this roll because I normally don't opt for vegan options, but this king mushroom was so well prepared and the sauce was so delicious that dare I say that I enjoyed this more than some of the fish/meat sushi rolls I've had in the past. (8/10) The hot scallop dish was one of the best bites of the night. The scallop was perfectly charred and cooked and the creamy polenta base with the umami salmon roe, with the fried red cabbage to add texture was amazing. I would definitely order this again. (9/10) Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Aiko and the food surpassed my expectations. I loved everything I tried and do want to come back to try more. The service was quick and helpful with the menu. Parking can be a bit tricky, but there are some free street parking spots around the plaza. The ambiance is definitely upscale and classy. It's a great place for a date! My only complaint was that I made a reservation for 2 at least a week in advance and upon arrival, though they had plenty of open tables, we were seated at the opposite end of a table that was already occupied. We were close enough to hear their entire conversation throughout dinner, and I just thought it was an odd experience because that had never happened to me before. Though it did not hinder me from enjoying the food I would have preferred to be seated at our own table.

GENERALIZED REVIEW:…read more Came here with a friend from theatre after a full run--he had this place recommended to him by another theatre friend, so we're just passing on the word. The plaza was a bit confusing to navigate, and I'm pretty sure if the place weren't full of Asian parents and their kids, it would've felt like the shadiest place ever because you have to enter from the back. Otherwise, the plaza had a lot of great-looking stores overall. My first go-to: I've loved drinking Kirin Light ever since I discovered it in Chicago. The flavor is literally so light, with a slight acidity that brightens up my meal. The sake here was frankly also delicious. I didn't order it, but my friend did, and they had it warmed. The flavor was soothing and subtle, almost like tea. It was exceptionally easy to drink, and the ocean-themed ceramicware was a beautiful touch. We ordered two rolls: the Shaggy Dog and the Truffalufagus (a fun tongue-twister). I personally chose the Truffalufagus (which is not fun to spell) because it seemed like the most unique dish on the menu, and I enjoyed it very much. What I liked most about it was that it was subtle yet impactful. I also loved the textures--from the internal crunch paired with the fresh jalapeño to the softness of the fish. I'm glad I gave this roll a shot, and I would be excited to try it again anytime. The Shaggy Dog was great, but it appealed less to my flavor profile. It was a little too rich and creamy for me. I recommended this place to my BF as a potential future date spot--I personally think he would like it... if he weren't the type to enjoy AYCE sushi so much. If they had more unique rolls, I would definitely come back just for those. I was tempted to order the Surf and Turf for this round, but I didn't want to seem like a glutton, hahaha.
