This was such a fun find downtown! I believe this is one of the newer sushi restaurants in the area, and they offer a different spin on the traditional sushi experience with their hand roll selections. Let's dive into the food! The Hando Bowl: Delicious! Super flavorful, and every bite almost feels like a play on surf and turf. My only suggestion is to ask them to go a little lighter on the salt. They accidentally drizzled a little too much on ours, so one half of the bowl ended up noticeably saltier than the other. Besides that, the flavors were excellent. The Hand Rolls: These were interesting! Some were definitely better than others. Personally, I prefer traditional sushi rolls over hand rolls, so I think this really comes down to personal preference. If you love hand rolls, you'll probably appreciate the variety and experience more than I did. Sashimi Toro: Okay, THIS was by far the star of the entire dinner! They had fresh bluefin tuna belly that had just been shipped in and OMG. When it's fresh, IT'S FRESH! The toro practically melts in your mouth and is bursting with flavor. You're not going to find this quality at many other restaurants in the area. By the time dinner was over, I somehow found myself on my 5th order. That's how good it was! While this restaurant specializes in hand roll sushi, I would honestly come back just for the toro sashimi. Lastly, dessert: If you're a fan of crème brûlée, this will hit the spot 100%. Although, if you ate enough toro, you could probably argue that the toro itself counts as dessert. But I'll leave that decision up to you. Overall, between the food, service, and beautiful setup they have going on, this is a really nice date-night spot if you're looking for great food with a more intimate ambiance. We were in SLC for a long weekend from Denver and spent quite a bit of time scouring Yelp for the best places to eat. We tried HandoSake our first night, and it ended up being, by far, the best restaurant we ate at while in town! The space was upscale and clean. The food was fresh, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious. The staff was super friendly and attentive without ever being overbearing, which made the whole experience even better. It's either a hando bowl (plenty of food, great if you're starving or just wanna share something substantial), 2 appetizers, a 3 handroll special, or 7 pc nigiri. Such a sweet soul who clearly cares about your experience as a customer and guest! I went with the handroll lunch which included 3 rolls of my choice (negi toro, scallop, and salmon + avocado). The accompanying auto was delicious with tofu and sushi mushrooms. The salad was generously portioned. The dressing was a tad too sweet for my taste but my sweet server brought me some ginger sauce which was perfect when I added it to the dressing and created my own sauce! Very cool experience! I was in the area for work and my coworker and I popped into this place for an early dinner cuz the other sushi spot we were going to go to wasn't open yet. Fair warning this is mostly hand rolls. There are a couple sashimi options and only a couple specials closer to what we were looking for. I tried this cowboy special. It wasn't bad but it overpowered the tuna. Also the tuna didn't have enough kick to be labeled spicy. Not a huge fan of wish there were other roll options. I left still hungry. The happy hour rice tots are mediocre. It made me miss my fav sushi spot back home that makes the best crispy rice tots. Nice upscale ambience, but got homeless tweakers 3 doors down yelling at you as you navigate after street parking. We ordered an assortment of hand rolls (since that is their specialty), and a few maki rolls. I wish i saved the names of the rolls we ordered, but honestly anything off the menu is bound to be good. I think the Johnny Utah was one of the ones we ended up ordering a second handroll of. And there was a maki with strawberry in it.. SO GOOD. The ambiance is pretty cold and rigid. I imagine a lot of business people come here for meetings. The temperature is uncomfortably cold, even in the summer. It was extra cold for us because we were seated at a high top directly under an air vent, but at least the manager was apologetic about it. Handosake was a revelation. The "Smooth Hustle" hand roll set was hands down some of the best sushi I've ever had, each roll felt like its own little masterpiece. The madai was clean and delicate, the salmon and hamachi practically melted on contact, the negitoro was rich without being heavy, and the lobster brought just enough sweetness to balance everything out. And then there was the blue fin, which honestly stopped me mid-bite because of how buttery and perfect it was. The vibe of the place matched the food: relaxed, stylish, and full of energy without being over the top. Walking out, I couldn't stop thinking that I'd just had one of those meals that recalibrates your expectations for what sushi should be. Service was just okay. Our server didn't check on us much, and our water glasses stayed empty for a while. Chef told me the difference between Ora King Salmon and Norwegian Salmon. Ora King Salmon has a more tender texture while Norwegian salmon is more fatty. No complementary hot tea. Went here last week with a group and the food was INCREDIBLE. Their miso soup was the best I've ever had - full of mushrooms and the broth was amazing and rich. We had toro (the best) and almost all of their rolls. Every single one was amazing. We especially loved the Tuna No Crust roll, the F Yeah roll, and the Tokyo Cowboy roll. The only food disappointment was the Hando bowl as it was extremely dry (even with the egg, and blah/bland. The service could be better - they kept forgetting all of our drinks and we never could get refills on water, even after asking.
