I wish I could give 10 stars. Well done guys. Easy to make reservations, open late and a CURATED menu for all. First - We loved the staff. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable, had amazing backgrounds and enjoyed each other. We enjoyed them just as much as our food! The space we had an intimate booth on the main floor. Loved it. The playlist -music was so on point. Probably one of the best French75's I've had downtown. Their wine menu for once a large enough by the glass menu! I'm a red snob, Cab franc went so well with the filet. Oysters were delicious, their in house vinaigrette was refreshing The oysters Kilpatrick! We literally ordered a side of the sauce just to eat with bread. Do it, order a side of the sauce. It's heaven if you like a smoky bacon flavor. We both had the filet, I feel like it was a lot larger than 8 oz, and the sides were huge. We truly had the best time, without reservations, just walked by and said oh this looks new! I really wanted to love Brownstone 22. James Beard nominee, great reviews from critics, awesome location in downtown Salt Lake City showcasing a façade and interior full of character. I wouldn't say my expectations were sky-high, but I still left feeling disappointed. Every year my wife and I take a dear friend out for birthday dinner. We usually choose something on the nicer end, and for last Friday's dinner, we settled on the brand-new Brownstone 22. We went all-in on the experience- apps, mains, desserts, drinks. The biggest hits were the NZ Salmon Belly Sashimi, Ravioli, and Carrot Cake. The Chilled Seafood Tower was an absolute miss- subpar quality seafood and really poor value. Spiced Madeleines were not quite what we expected, a bit too tart. Everything else was above average. The menu is relatively concise and it's easy to see why this kitchen is praised, they put together some delicious and beautiful food. Service is where things are mixed and brings me to where things fall apart. We booked ahead of time for a mezzanine table, but were seated on the main floor. When I asked, we were told the mezzanine was closed because "it was slow" (it was in fact quite empty). They hadn't given any notice ahead of time that this would be the case, and then told me that while they could seat us up there it would need to be set up and that the air conditioning couldn't be turned on so it would be hot. Ok, we took our seats on the main floor. I had noted on the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. Toward the end of the meal, I asked whether they did anything for birthdays and was told they would bring a slice of cake with a candle and notify our server. It never arrived, and the birthday was only briefly acknowledged at the very end. Any one of these issues would have been minor on its own, but together they reflected a lack of attention to detail. Brownstone 22 has a lot going for it. A beautiful space, a talented kitchen, and several dishes we genuinely enjoyed. But at this level, service and attention to detail matter too, and both fell short during our visit. I think our server said they have been open 35 days....so brand spanking new! It's a darling restaurant inside a building that looks like it was plucked from New York City. Hence, the name Brownstone. It's an older building with so much character-I wanted to wander around and see upstairs and around each corner, but I behaved myself and stayed at my table like a good patron. I appreciate how they've priced their drinks-all cocktails, glasses of wine and martinis are $15, making it easy to just pick what you like rather than consider the price. You're probably paying a little more for the lower shelf drinks and maybe less than you would elsewhere on the higher caliber ones, but it all evens out. Service is overly attentive-I think they might have been a bit bored. Our water cups never went below two thirds full. I'd rather have that than have to track someone down, so not a complaint-just an observation. As they get busier, I'm sure they'll sort that out. I enjoyed my food, as did my dining partner. Although it's more "fancy food" than comfort food, so for someone who might prefer familiar or simple foods, this is a step or two above that. I had the airline chicken which was flavorful and she had the pork and found it to be tasty as well. I absolutely adore the mural on the wall and how exquisitely it matches with the furniture. I'm a sucker for matching or coordinated colors, and the interior decorator and artist nailed it. I'm looking forward to returning to continue to explore this beautiful place. read more

My gnocchi was good. The ravioli was good. And the cabbage was good. Everything else that we got was poor, if not bad. We got the large seafood tower and WOW what a disappointment. The platter should have been smaller to create the optical illusion that you were getting more food. The crab was gritty and something wasn't right with it. We ended up getting a refund for that portion of the meal. My spouse got the po' boy sandwich and said "I don't even know what I'm eating". Our server was kind, but the chef was strange. They brought out the food, and saw that we had many empty plates on the table and said "I'll send a busser" even though they were headed in the direction of where empty plates go. read more

Went in a Tuesday evening and no problem making reservation several hrs before. I agree with other Yelpers, the building has a very easy coast feel, inside feels intimate as seating it's broken up to left, right, and mezzanine. The chef has done an amazing job with many of the options. The gazpacho soup is a great idea for summer, bold flavor but could be less lemon tart. Nice touch w the crispy garlic & wasabi aioli on the Salmon belly sashimi. Didn't find the Shrimp Arancini anything special. The poached lobster linguini had great flavor. This was a full body experience. From the location, to the ambiance, to the amazing mural inside, to the friendly and personalized service, down to the cocktail concoctions...everything was phenomenal. It's priced on the higher end, but well worth the experience. We ordered a bunch of different dishes to share, and the scallops took the cake for me. We had oysters, scallops, the wedge and the ribeye. We sat in a velvet booth on the main floor. This restaurant is well appointed and so beautiful with relaxed coastal soul music playing. It feels hip without being pretentious and is cozy ye elevated. The food was all good as well. We particularly enjoyed the wedge made with raddicio as this added a spiciest to it. The scallops were good as well if a bit on the salty side. The ribeye was tender, flavorful and sat in a delicious au jus! The service was friendly and very accommodating. They have only been open a couple of weeks so they are working out some of the etiquette for finer dining like replacing plates and silverware between course but were very apologetic and made it right immediately. I was in town for a conference and looking for a place with outstanding food, a lively atmosphere, and a welcoming bar where I could unwind after long days. Brownstone 22 exceeded every expectation. In fact, I found myself making the few-block walk back three of the four nights I was there. Each visit, I was greeted by a genuinely friendly, energetic team that made me feel like a regular. You could tell the staff enjoyed working together, and that positive culture translated directly into the guest experience. The food and cocktails were exceptional. The oysters were incredibly fresh, the kale Caesar was one of the best I've had, and the salmon sashimi kept calling me back. Every recommendation from the bartenders was spot on. I was genuinely surprised to learn they had only been open a few months because everything--from the service and execution to the atmosphere--felt polished and well established. Brownstone 22 was easily one of the highlights of my trip, and it'll be one of the first places I return to the next time I'm in town. read more

Brownstone 22 is one of the best dining experiences I've had in Salt Lake in a long time. Chef Travis is really hitting his stride in this new space. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The service was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without hovering. And the food is next level. Every dish that hit the table was thoughtful, balanced, and just flat out delicious. You can tell there's serious talent in the kitchen. As soon as you step in the building it feels like you've traveled out of Utah. The art is beautiful and the whole atmosphere is inviting and intriguing. Bonnie was our server and she was outstanding. Best advice I've had in far too long. She was great at making recommendations and details o. What to expect with each drink. She recommended the cabbage and I couldn't thank her enough. The restaurant is located inside the historic Brownstone building, and the space has a really cool feel to it. It's classic and upscale but still comfortable. Service across the board was excellent, especially at the bar. They have a great wine selection, and the Old Fashioned was excellent. We started with the cocktail shrimp and the bread service as appetizers. For dinner we had the steak and the barramundi. Everything we ordered was excellent. It's exciting to see a new restaurant open in downtown Salt Lake that delivers such great food and service right out of the gate. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Went there tonight and had an amazing meal. The vibe is very upscale lounge style that reminded me a lot of restaurants in NYC. Miraculously, the seafood was also extremely good just like it was back east. The seafood tower is lovely and flavorful, the caviar service is the best traditional service in Utah (I also really like the fried chicken skin service at Bambara), and the salmon sashimi was amazing. Desserts, which can often be an afterthought, were extraordinary. Our cocktails were good too which can be hard in Utah because of the strict laws. It's certainly upscale but well-priced. Three of us went for dinner. Our total experience was, disappointingly, mixed. First, the food. The oysters were fresh. The steak and gnocchi were well prepared. The plate of four, small broiled scallops was very bland and overpriced. Most surprisingly, the "soup of the day" was spoiled. It was a crab tomato broth and smelled and tasted badly. The soup was returned, and we were not charged for it. Ambience was very pleasant. Our waiter initially was most congenial and informative. After taking our orders, he disappeared and our table was ignored by other serving staff until the very end of the meal Service was therefore not acceptable.
