Very nice people working there. Thorough manicure and pedicure. I don't get polish, but have my nails buffed instead. Many places skimp on the full service when I ask for buffing. Not here. Really did a nice job cleaning up my fingernails and toenails. Good massage. Space is bright and clean. Massage chairs are comfortable and effective. I will go back when in town. read more

I went it to have a set of acrylics done and I was blown away by how amazing this salon is. Lan did my nails and she was so gentle and so thorough and I was incredibly pleased with the results. While Lan was doing my nails, Tanu was there as well and they were both so incredibly nice to me, I really enjoyed my visit. I absolutely plan to keep going there! I am so thoroughly disappointed that I paid $52 dollars for a mani/pedi that essentially I could have done at home. The only reason I went here is because I didn't feel like making an appointment at Laquered Up. Came here on lunch and was seated right away. I got there right before the lunch crowd. The two ladies that began working on me were nice and conversational. I noticed some small things that technicians always ask like "round or square?" when shaping your nails that wasn't asked. The lady doing my pedicure did not ask if I wanted my nails filed or clipped. It only got worse once the nail polish was applied. Once completing my final coat and started to apply the top coat, I noticed that the polish was smearing. She didn't stop. She finished the top and thought she was done. I looked at my pinky that was smeared and asked her to fix it. What surprised me the most is that I could see all of these flecks of polish on my skin that needed to be cleaned up. I asked her to clean them up. She tried using the stick to no avail and then FINALLY uses the brush, after I had to ask her, but only sparingly. She asked if it was ok, I just gave up because there was still polish on my skin and it looked sloppy. When it was time to paint my toes, there was a switch of technicians, maybe because they now had every chair filled with customers. The lady, who I think was the manager, proceeds to sit down and start my toes. I received no toe-separators. At this point I am hoping for a nicer pedi because the yelp stars are decreasing by the minute as I continue to look in awe at my mangled manicure. She finished up and I ask her to fix my pinky and the flecks of polish on my manicure. She proceeds to say that I need another top coat. Why not just use the fat nail brush to clean it up like every other salon I go to? No, she puts on another top coat and uses the nail stick. Seriously, I am pissed and thinking this tip is decreasing. She finishes and I finally get a look at my toes and see flecks of nail polish on my SKIN that was not cleaned up. I sit there for a few minutes and I am fuming. I decided to get up and leave because it will only get worse because they evidently CANNOT see. As I start packing my things, the technician who is working next to me says that I am probably not dry and offers me flip flops. Why wasn't I offered this to begin with? Not to mention the lady who was sitting there had toe-separators. I walked to the front where she tell me $52, my mouth dropped. I paid and gave a minimal tip but they didn't deserve it. What made it worse is that another customer walks out with a beautiful pedicure that was perfect. It's one thing to jack up prices because you are in Claremont, but it's another when you give me a jacked-up mani/pedi and don't see anything wrong with your work. I struggled with giving them 1 or 2 stars, but I settled on 1, because it is unsettling that both technicians were wearing glasses and couldn't see that the job they produced was crappy. read more

Doesn't even deserve one star... The worst experience I've ever encountered. I asked for a shellac manicure and as soon as the lady started working on my nails I could tell she was inexperienced. She left some nails longer than the others and some even uneven. I had to keep correcting her mistakes the entire time. When it came to painting she did a mess and idk what she did wrong but the nail polish kept bubbling and looked melted and it was just terrible. She kept trying to add layers of coats to hide the bubbling but it just got worse. I demanded they take the entire thing off.. That was another 30 min wasted of my life getting soaked AGAIN. After she was done I told her I didn't even want her to paint them anymore. I walked up towards the exit and she claimed I had to pay her 17$ and I refused. They weren't even sympathetic for wasting my time and doing a terrible job. Hands down the worst nail salon experience ever. Never ever going back and do not recommend this inexperienced place to anyone!!!!!!!!! read more

I went here because the reviews were so good. This place is clean and competent. I can't say the manicurists did anything wrong, but their work was kind of pro forma and while I recognize that it's probably quite boring to do nails all day long, it did feel like they were phoning it in a bit. So, the attention to detail that I find extremely important just wasn't there. My nails look fine but there were little bubbles that formed with the nail polish. This is all to say that while the place is hygenic and the manicurists are certainly competent, for $50+ I want a lot more attention to detail. I probably won't come here again. read more

Came here for the first time and would never come back. Although the lady was really sweet, she was extremely slow and told me that maybe if I didn't have time, to come back to get my nails painted tomorrow. She left little fuzzies in the polish that you could see once it dried. Also, the other ladies that were working there were very unprofessional with one of them walking around barefoot and walking in and out of the shop to sit under the tree in front of the store. I came to their new location on Yale st. Joey was my technician and she was wonderful! I don't live here but am down for business. I did not have a chance to get my nails done before I left. Now it wish I lived here so they could be my regular salon! I got a Gel Mani. It was the most detailed and gentle I have ever had. They use the tinniest tool to get right under your cuticle. Then the gel can get right up to them without peeling. My nails grow out fast so having the gel this far back is great! Wonderful massage, with it was longer but I think you get that with an upgraded mani. I will be back every time I come down! read more

Ok so I went back in to have then fix my nails, at 40 I expect them to be perfect. The lady kept going on and in about if I am happy she is happy. Took forever to paint my nails, the job was crappy I just couldn't waste anymore time sitting there. She then tells me it is 30 dollars for a fill! Awesome start to finish--I was welcomed as a walk-in for a pedicure, and it's as the saying goes: divinity is in the details. From the thorough foot scrubbing to the minty leg masque to the warm lotion foot/knee/calf massage, all the way to the perfect polish and wisp of oil as a finishing touch, I was blissed out for a solid hour. I won't trust my nails to anyone but Lena. She owns and runs this fantastic shop, and I'm definitely a regular. I wear pink and white acrylics, and get compliments on my nails all day long. Lena does a thorough job, and they always look great, not big or thick or clunky like some places. The manicure lasts a long time. The place is not only CLEAN, it's always decorated for whatever holiday is coming up. Was there yesterday and Easter bunnies abound. It always feels like home. The music is never offensive. If something's happening in the news you can request it on tv (unobtrusively placed above the door) but it's generally a calm quiet place. I went here a couple years ago it was a week before my birthday I went here because I heard nothing but good things one of my friends has a standing appt. to get her nails filled loves it. I walked in and thought it was dark but kinda quaint and cute. the lady who did my nails must not have known what she was doing because this to date is the WORST fill I have ever gotten and I have had some awful ones...she started by filing down the tips of my nails with the electrical file OUCH!!!!! that hurt and stung sooo bad!!!!!!! and when she filled those I was left with uneven nails and what looked like canals where the top of the nails where and the bottom of the nail $45 was a complete rip off I went home in tears.... never again!!! read more

I just went to Hands Down for the first time. I got a gel manicure with Joey, she did a great job. She spent over an hour and really spent a lot of time on my cuticles which let me tell you were bad. They use high shellac and opi products. In the end I was surprised to hear that the manicure was on $35. I have paid much more for such a high quality manicure. I was referred to this salon by my cousin and I love it! I come to get my acrylics done here and Lena always does a fantastic job. Her work is very detailed and she sculpts the acrylic to fit each nail (without using the tips). She makes sure your cuticles are cut and takes her time to make sure they are done right all while making you feel comfortable. All off her employees are nice and polite and they make sure that you always accommodate you to your liking. All the services performed are well worth the price. read more

several years ago I came here to get my nails filled I had several people who raved about this place like it was the best thing next to sliced bread so for an early birthday present to myself I came here I should stop when I feel like pampering myself it never works out right........I walked in and right away I knew I was bothersome so sorry that I didn't have an appointment but needed my nails done the older lady who did my nails was ruthless and started drilling away at my tips you read this right my tips of my nails so much so I was in searing pain but at this point thought it was just a different way of doing nails and went with it and said nothing boy was I wrong!!! it left my nails wonky and with canals where the tip meets the rest of the nails on all of my nails and to top it off the nails weren't even straight $50 dollars to go home and cry my eyes out not only did she ruin my nails I'm scared of the drill still and it's been 2 years if they didn't have someone who could do acrylic nails they should have told me and I would have gone somewhere else gladly!! Hands Down Nail Salon is by far the BEST nail salon I have ever been to. This place has the highest quality of customer service I have every experienced at a nail salon. First off, it is located in Downtown Claremont which is my favorite place to shop and eat, and now, it's my favorite place to get pampered. You will spend a little more money here for a mani/pedi, but it is worth every penny. I personally rather pay the extra money to get a GREAT mani/pedi, rather then wasting my money on a horrible mediocre mani/pedi. My manicurist was very friendly. She took her time and didn't rush. She was a perfectionist. Which is what I like, I cant stand it when they are sloppy and try to rush everything. The best part was the massage! She massaged my feet, my legs, my hands, and my arms for the longest time! It was so relaxing! Overall, my nails&toes came out great! I most definitely will return again and again. Oh my god you have to go to Lena. I have been to many many many salons, everywhere from paramount to Claremont, and let me just say Lena is worth every single mile I drove. I thought I found my nail lady but I was a little disappointed by her behavior so after much research I decided to take the chance with Lena, I am so glad I did. I even got a compliment that same day when I went to Nordstrom Rack with my friend, and I got Lena a client. I am very VERY picky and not at any point did she lose her patience with me, and I had her cut down my nails about two times and had her change the shape and she did it with pleasure. I don't want to share her because she is that good but I want her to have clients. Her shop is such a delight, it is soothing and you feel like you're in Paris. There is no negative comment I could possibly give about Lena.I felt so relaxed and look forward to booking my appointment with her. I missed having my pink and whites and gave up because everyone I went to did them fat, wide, and just a hot mess. I have small hands and small nail beds, and she knew exactly how to shape them. She did forms on me which is a technique that requires much skill which most nail salons do not do anymore. I was a little skeptical being it was my first time but I am so in love with my nails I cannot stop looking at them haha.
