I've been to many nail salons and one of my favorites is no longer open. I was very nervous about going to another new nail salon for my wedding, but I decided to go with Hands on Nails. I made an appointment for me and my bridal party and it was the best decision ever! My girls were very indecisive and all the technicians were so patient with us. We were there for a long time and my mother-in-law also decided to get her nails done as well. There was so much chaos from my party, but we still received the best service! I never had powder gel done before and I knew I wanted it for my wedding - it came out wonderful and lasted more than a month! I went to the shop because my daughter had just moved to Mt. Sinai and we thought we would support the local business. Was I sorry!! My technician was very gruff and not friendly at all. I prefer the gel manicure because it lasts 2 to 3 weeks but to my dismay, I was chipped in 3 days. And 4 nails were affected. Also, I had brought my 5 year old granddaughter and she had a mani/pedi, They charged the same amt. as they did an adult. I have brought her with me to other shops on several occasions and they always have a child rate... Not here... $23.00 for a child's nails to be done. Well sorry to day, i will go back to the larger chains where I usually go. My nails have lasted up to 3 weeks and my granddaughter is half that price!! read more

Obviously there are a lot of nail places on Long Island. What sets this place apart is the service and the MASSAGES. They actually stick to their appointment times and do great work without corners to try and fit more customers in the day. The massages are top notch. Love that this place still gives you a "free" massage as you're drying your nails. To me, this alone is worth coming here over other spots in the area! Also, the pedicure massages are incredible. This place was the best rated salon in my area. I came in for a pedicure, the place was clean/chairs are nice and new, was convinced to try the reflexology pedicure with hot stone [25+$10]. Pedicure itself overall was nice, she took her time and it came out decent. Massage was very light pressure and wasn't very satisfying in the end--hot stones weren't very hot to make it very relaxing either. Would have done without both this case. Since my toes looked good I thought I'd get my nails done as well. Started out fine, she took her time--she had trouble understanding a round nail and gave me square with round corners, when I corrected her she only changed my thumbs to round and left my other nails square, I sorta gave up. She wound up clipping one of my cuticles too short where I was bleeding, I didn't feel it, but wasn't loving that it stung with nail polish remover. Besides the nail shape they looked alright for a $10 manicure, until today not one-and-a-half days later, the inside middle of one nail just completely lifted and cracked off, that has never happened to me before. So I thought I'd right a review of my experience since I trust what people experience on yelp. I'm sure I would have a different experience with a more experienced nail tech, but I'm not rushing back in just yet after what happened. read more

Terrible pedicure. Not only were my nails cut crooked and left sharp on the edges the polish started to flake off the next day. I have no problem with the language barrier but it was very hard to explain that I wanted my nails cut straighter and the edges taken off and after all that they still were pretty bad. I'm pretty sure the pedicurist was a trainee. The only reason they are not getting one star is that the man was so nice and the massage was pretty good. read more

Not sure why this place has a 4 star rating on here. I saw the previous reviews and decided to give it a try and rest assured, I'm not going back. I got a reflexology pedicure ($30) which was supposed to include a 10 minute massage, my girl stopped well ahead of the timer, probably around 8 minutes, to move on with the massage. The sanitation conditions are not up to snuff. Their callus scraper wasn't disposable and was not put right back into the uv light sanitizer device they're supposed to use. The hot stone was put directly on my skin with no cool down time allowed, my calves are still tender from the heat of the stones. My girl also kept all of her bracelets/watch on while doing the pedicure and hurt my legs during the massage from the sharp edges of her jewelry. Their only saving grace and reason for a second star in my review is Beatriz for that awesome back massage while my toes dried. Overall: 7/10 Sanitation: 6/10 Quality: 5/10 Massage: 10/10 read more

Paid 100.00 plus tax for manicure and pedicure. Powder manicure lasted 4 days. Went back 1 week later and complained to management and they said no worries we will redo. Well they redid and fing charged me another $25.00. They obviously do. Ot care about the quality only quantity. Will member be back and will be posting on facebook what a horrible place. This is my new go-to nail salon! I have been here twice and I love it! The girls are all so friendly and sweet. They do such a good job, and no one ever makes me feel bad when I bring my son. Even though he is well behaved (otherwise I obviously wouldn't take him) some places give you the "look" when you bring a child with you. Not the case at Hands On Nails. Also, I would like to mention that their polish never cracks or bubbles. Everything appears to be clean and fresh. I love that they take their time too, where as other places rush you out the door. This is one of those nail places that seat you in an empty chair to let you think you're about to get your mani or pedi. After sitting for 30 minutes with no technician, I had to leave. Have tried every single nail salon in the surrounding area. Hands on is hands down the best!!! Every worker is so nice and patient. Never rush on your nails & they always have come out fabulous! I traveled 10 minutes one way to get here, after trying numerous salons around the area and some I traveled far more than a mere 10 minutes to get there to, I think I have my go to spot. The inside of the salon is absolutely gorgeous. With full fish tank, comfortable seating, excellent service. And most of all, they LISTEN to what you want done. I saw Grace, she did my manicure and my eyebrows. She was so quick with the eyebrows that I didn't feel a thing, I was very relaxed there. My nails are beautiful. I always bring my own color, I have so many why not. After my last horrible experience with acrylic nails elsewhere, I do not think I will be doing them again anytime soon, or if ever. I can't comment on how long it will be until my manicure starts chipping, I won't know unless my real nails are fully grown out, right now they are still very weak and damaged from the previous salon. However, I will be a returning customer here. I enjoyed my time here and it was money well spent. read more

I would most likely not go back to this salon. Where my nails came out just fine, the service was terrible. First, I made an appointment a week in advance and had to wait more than 30min before someone even started my pedicure. What is the point of making an appointment then? Once I was done with my pedicure I had to sit and wait another 15 min for another tech to start my manicure. I was there for over two hours which was ridiculous for a regular pedi and gel mani. read more

Fantastic nail salon. I used to go to angel tips one shopping center over and it was horrible so I decided to try hands on out. I've always had bad experiences at nail salons around my area but this place has met my expectations finally. The environment is super clean and relaxing and Daniel does amazing on my acrylics. He really takes his time to perfect it whole at other salons they rush and do a very sloppy job. Terrible!! Sat in the salon for an hour and 45 minutes. Asked for pink and white backfill and the failed to tell me they don't do acrylic. The tech proceeded to do a painted white and a gel on top which I was upset about. I voiced my concern and I was ignored. Wouldn't have been so bad if the nails came out nice but they look terrible!!! I'm almost in tears at how bad they look and I start a new job in the morning. Except for the little infected cut on my big toe, Mercy gave me a very nice pedicure. But here's the problem - she was so bored and uninterested in what she was doing that she barely looked at my feet. She was yawning and staring out the window the whole time. I was trying to figure out how she would polish my nails without looking at them. I don't think she once looked up at me. I felt like a non person. but the lady that did the massage was phenomenal. So disappointed honestly. I was going to this place for so long, getting acrylics and different types of manicures in between when I didn't have acrylics on. I hadn't been in a while because I was out of town, and the owner (I think, the woman always at the first seat) hadn't been there for multiple times on the days I went in previously. Everything was always almost perfect, my nails were done well, lasted forever which was perfect because of my ridiculously busy schedule. Except certain people have NO idea what they're doing and mess up so bad. And then recently, not only was my business not considered priority and I was moved around endlessly (where then it took HOURS to finish and they messed up multiple times) even when I called in advance, but then most recently they over charged me at least $5 with no explanation!! I normally always give a tip except one time when the girl told me I can't leave a tip on the card (when every other time I leave a tip on the card perfectly fine, at least $10 for a simple manicure) and I didn't have cash, so the next time I tipped her double as an apology. But then I come in most recently, the owner lady was there, makes a comment about putting a tip on the card, I said no because I had a $20 bill to give as a tip, but then she charged me extra on my card anyways, I'm assuming to take a tip she felt she wanted anyways!! So of course, my tip was cut WAY down to give them. Now I want to find another nail salon. Recently it's just been getting worse and worse at this place, and I never write these reviews.
