I was in this shop for just a few minutes but was very impressed. I brought in two older watches thinking maybe they needed a battery change or were just broken. The man working educated me on what types of watches they were in the sense that they were winding and not battery operated. He adjusted them for me and explained to me that if they weren't working after that adjustment then to come back and gave me a fair quote. He did not charge me for this interaction. I love local shops and I found a great one! I went to Hand's on watch & Clock Repair on Amherst Street in Black Rock and had batteries replaced in 2 watches the owner was friendly and fast! I was there at 12 o'clock and all the clocks were chimming how great was that! This is the only clock and watch repair store left in the city of Buffalo. These Black Rock natives have been in this corner of the Broadway Market for I think they said, 28 YEARS! I don 't really have to write more, do I? But I will... I went into the Broadway Market one morning looking for fried green tomatoes and pierogis to start my day. I found neither but I did notice this watch repair. I've been driving around with a Baggie of broken jewelry and a watch just bought, that fell apart. I fetched it. William Q. Young it seemed, merely squeezed the band and it went back together. He put a pearl necklace back together. And he told me honestly that he couldn't fix another which I appreciated- rather than ruin it trying. His collection of Seikos is small and nicely priced. I bought a small gold one with dolphins and a moon on its face for under $30. An impulse buy, but I've been thinking about how rude and obvious it is to check your phone for the time when a quick, subtle flick of the wrist could accomplish it. Get thee here with your broken time pieces and time keeping needs! Shop and fix local! read more

Recently went to Hands On to see about getting my Rolex wristwatch repaired. I inherited the watch and it had served me faithfully for over 25 years without missing a beat or having any service or repairs. It finally quit working earlier this year and I took it to two reputable Southtowns jewelry/watch repair shops to see about getting it going again. Shop 1 had watch for about 3 months without looking at it. So I took watch back and dropped it off at nearby shop 2. Shop 2 got back to me in a few weeks and said repair would be about $800 but couldn't definitively tell me what was really wrong with the watch. I think they were just planning to do a full refurbishment without taking time and effort to see what was really needed. I had recently read an article about Hands On and decided to get my watch back from shop 2 and give Hands On a try. I'm really glad I did! Bill had my watch about three days when he contacted me and said my watch needed a mainspring. He didn't try to up-sell me on any other service and said he could source a Rolex mainspring and have the watch ready for me in about a week and for a cost much less than shop 2 had presented. True to his word, Bill finished the work ahead of time and for the amount he had quoted me. He also did a great cleaning job that makes the watch look as good as new. Its a pleasure and a treasure to discover such a great shop so close to home. I will not hesitate to bring Bill any other watch or clock repair work that I might need and would recommend his shop to any one else needing such service. Thanks Bill!! read more

Just took 4 watches in for a battery fix. An additional watch in to have a new band replaced. As well as an adjustment on a Milanese bracelet. Jim was very quick and great to work with. His prices are reasonable and very fair. I was very impressed with the overall experience. He had multiple people come over while I was there for repairs.
