You're suppose to be able to order from Melba's and they bring the food to you, well don't expect this service. Go get your food from Melba's. The place, the building, and Gabby and Alon are the vibe. Thank yall.

I was visiting New Orleans for Essence Weekend, and Sunday was my last night in the city. Before…read moreheading home, I wanted one last authentic New Orleans po'boy, so I stopped at Melba's. The food was delicious and definitely hit the spot. While I was there, I heard music and realized there was a lounge upstairs. I decided to check it out, and my first thought was, "I wish I had found this place on Friday when I arrived." The vibe was amazing. Gabby, the bartender, was incredibly sweet and welcoming. I ordered a hookah and a drink, and both were a 10/10. I was genuinely having a great time. Then everything changed. I witnessed an older Hispanic man speaking to a young woman in a way that was incredibly disrespectful after she came out of a room toward the back of the lounge. Watching that interaction was uncomfortable enough. Then, while carrying trash through the lounge, he bumped into another customer and yelled, "Move, n**ga!" The room seemed to stop. As the mother of two African American sons, that moment broke my heart. I immediately stopped seeing things through the eyes of a customer and started seeing them through the eyes of a mother. I thought about my boys and the world they have to navigate every day. No one should be spoken to with that kind of hate or disrespect. It's heartbreaking because my experience had been perfect up until that moment. The service from Gabby was exceptional, the drinks were great, and the atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for. But witnessing behavior like that erased every good feeling I had walking into the lounge. This review is **not about Melba's**. My food experience there was wonderful. This is about what I experienced in the lounge upstairs. I hope management takes incidents like this seriously because no guest or employee should ever have to witness language or behavior that makes people feel devalued or unsafe. Sadly, because of what I witnessed, I won't be returning to the lounge.

This place seems like a dive bar but trying hard to be up scale…read more The good: the cocktails were absolutely delicious. The seasonal cocktail were on point The drag show was entertaining. They were fabulous performers. The staff was fun and friendly, it wasn't really their fault with the problems that follow. The bad: For noon reservations for drag brunch, they were not ready at all. It was $35 a person for the reservation. It seems a bit steep, however the show was good. When I say they weren't ready, they really were on a struggle bus. We had a couple cocktails and I believe every one else had the $25 bottomless mimosas. However, they didn't have the champagne in stock so many people had to wait for a drink. And once they for them, it was hard to keep their glasses full with the lack of staff. We ordered food and it took FOREVER! I mean, we almost left because all we had in our stomach was coffee from the morning and a couple cocktails. Let me remind you that our reservation was for noon. We did not get our food until 2:30. I was getting quite nauseated. I ordered the chicken and French toast, I asked for no maple syrup but it was doused in it. It was ok. I ate the chicken. TL:DR- cocktails were good, the show was good. They needed more staff and the food was meh. EDIT: Our credit cards were charged and the money refunded and additional charges were placed on our card.

They made sure we were having an awesome time, stayed and chatted with us, and overall made our trip such a great time. we were so happy to support this small business during covid and can't wait to come back!!

I am on my giving this bar two stars because one doesn't seem fair given the covid situation…read more. However this bar doesn't practice any covid guidelines, Staff is unwelcoming, unprofessional, When myself and my friends arrived we were sat a table for two people, there was no social distancing, and couldn't sit outside, we sat for twenty minutes not one menu was passed not a hello, nothing finally we got up to ask to be moved because more friends were joining us and they sat us by the front door, this establishment is very small, the backyard space is huge and would be wonderful to utilize but we were told it was closed (and you think it would be open being covid is still rampant in the city) The hostess was rude, when we did ask how much things were we were pointed to a table of printed out menus as in menus that had been printed off a computer, the attitudes were not welcoming, I understand during this time we want and need to pay our bills but if you're overwhelmed do not pack a bar to make revenue risk the safety of your staff and customers and then have staff who aren't professional I left a comment on their instagram page and one of their servers who I never met or saw followed me on Instagram harassing me. Never Again save yourself there are better run classier nicer places in new orleans !
