The food is okay. They have an interesting menu with some "fusion" choices. The service is fine. The ambiance is a bit dark unless you sit at the window. What I did not notice until I was inside and seated is that there is a B rating. The rating is on the window to the right of the entrance but there is a large plant in front of the window so the rating is partially hidden. The tip is multiple choice. You are given a choice of three boxes to check off for the tip, which is on the total including the tax. There is no way that you enter a tip and add up the total., unless you write it in an empty space on the bill near your signature. read more

This place is at the corner of Stuytown so location was super convenient for us! It's a big restaurant with lots of outdoor dining. They use fake plants to decorate the space and it's very cute. The menu was a little confusing, but we ordered and were served pretty quickly. Didn't take a photo, but we had miso soup, salad, agedashi tofu and pumpkin tempura (last two are part of the Combination Maki Lunch). The tofu and tempera were fried only once, and both were pretty underwhelming in flavor and texture. The sauce was not as flavorful as others that I have had. The sashimi and sushi were average. It was akin to Safeway/grocery market sushi, but not frozen. Sashimi was alright as well. The lunch totaled to about $40, including tax and tip, for two, so I'm not really complaining. Me and my wife were just in town, it was getting late and decided to eat something near by and ended up eating here. We should have looked at the reviews and everything before. I was a sushi chef for about 10 years. The ambiance was great, service was good, but the food was a different story. Shishito peppers were kind of bland with a hit of lemon. We also had the otoro roll and some sashimi. Sashimi could be better but wasn't the worst I ever tasted. The otoro on the roll was the only thing I would of eaten. The roll just tasted off the second I took a bite. I tried to find out why. The rice was hard and bland. The tuna on the inside didn't seem the freshest, mango and avocado were half way ripe. They don't offer plates even when we say we are sharing. We ask for serving spoonS and they bring one. We waited 15 minutes to be served. Our waitress said she'd be back right water but didn't come back and we had to keep flag people down. The front desk when we arrived was really disorganized. Cleaning supplies were lying around and different people nervously asked us how many people several times. I haven't been back here in ages until recently. But the one perk of Hane is that all of their cocktails are 2 for 1 and their sushi tastes very fresh. It may be a wee bit pricey. But presentation is a knock out and its fun for a lite bite and well, two drinks. Among four people we split a variety of sashimi: tuna, eel, I think salmon, crabsticks (I let other people order while I took in the waterfall running off the tiled walls). Four rolls - Ichiban: Spicy tuna, avocado, tempura flakes with spicy lobster, fresh mango, and caviar. Damn. This is good. I'd like this better without the mango because there is so much going on but the spicy lobster is a great addition. Rainbow roll - Kani, avocado, cucumber with sashimi. It seemed all the same sashimi on each slice but it was decent. Actually, now that I think about it. . . . I think they brought out a dragon roll instead of a rainbow roll that someone requested but I couldn't care less. A typical fancy roll. Spider roll - Soft shell crab tempura, avocado, and cucumber. A usual standby favorite. Blue Crab roll - I think this was the last we ordered. It was a crab roll of some variety because this sucker was served with an actual crab shell. A for presentation and B for taste. I love that there is a whole shell there and its cool as f*** but it isn't edible. Again, all of the presentations are awesome. Their drinks are decent. I asked for something off menu with having a coconut mojito. It tasted fresh and boozey. Fish was fresh but I feel like its missing something. It's always dead in here and the prices of their rolls are pretty insane. I would never normally spend $15-20 per roll unless it were a special occasion or my friend offered to pay. Get out of town. I'll put the TL;DR upfront: the food is not good. Would go back for cheap drinks during their two for one special, but I don't know when that is as it doesn't say on the menu. The staff was quite nice. Now for the rest: The place is by Stuytown (actually in a stuytown building) so you can expect to be surrounded by kids and middle aged parents. Not saying that's a bad thing - I myself brought my 9 month old and no one was phased by it so that's good - and live in Stuytown... Just know what you're getting yourself into. Now for the real problem. The food. Not good. Not the worst. But each dish I got was off. And this place, while not particularly expensive, is not cheap enough to write these problems off. It kind of seems like it's purporting to be a fancy sushi place while having really poor execution. The menu is clearly too lengthy. Maybe if they cut it down they could execute well. Shishitos were not sufficiently cooked, tempura was soggy, not cooked enough and too battery, spicy crab roll was primarily composed of soggy and doughy shrimp tempura. The best thing we had was the fried tofu, which was only ok. Frankly didn't try much of the sushi because the atmosphere made me suspect that it wasn't that good (so read this review knowing that there's a lot I don't know about this place). The drinks were poured strong but not brought quickly (which makes sense for a busy Saturday, so I'm not too fussed by it). They have seriously gone downhill following the renovation . Today my salmon arrived cold as did my friends. We called over the server who got the manager who took it back , but when it came back the salmon was hot and the vegetables were cold. We asked our server for a napkin and she showed us that there were two napkins under one set of utensils before she brought us a new napkin . I ended up getting nauseous and threw up my meal . This restaurant was closed about a year ago for design renovations. When it reopened the design and ambience are nice. However the menu and the quality of the food changed and not for the better. Prices are much higher, not a surprise, the raw sushi & sashimi are still fresh and appealing but I recommend staying away from and if the cooked food. The tempura was the thickly coated in a heavy panko, not light and airy like it used to be. The soft shell crab was tasteless abd over fried. The quality of the filet mignon was awful. I had a poor dining experience on Oct. 10 and asked for a manager. I was told there wasn't one available so I left my name and number, but no one called me. My 1-star review is for: 1) not receiving my entree at all; 2) the entree of the person I was with was overcooked; 3) after more than an hour total of being in the restaurant AND asking for a manager and being rebuffed AND finally deciding to leave, we were forced to pay for the 1 meal (that the other person didn't even eat) b/c it was "served". I understand that mistakes happen and would have preferred to speak to someone at the restaurant directly to resolve this, but that wasn't an option, so I'm adding my review so that others are aware that quality control is not consistent, and if happen to be the one with the problem, you're out of luck. The worst sushi I have ever had. The sushi taste like nothing. Every dish has this weird raspberry sauce that doesn't go with the fish. They also use this strange chipotle Smokey sauce that taste bizarre. The drinks are great and 2 for 1 is amazing for drinks but the sushi is the worst I have ever had at a restaurant. Used to be my go to place as the Sushi was always fresh and the service great . The past two times I have received Icura that was tangy indicating that it was old and had started to ferment . One was an order in and the other at the restaurant . Even the spicy tuna tasted old. They have been very disorganized with the indoor and out door seating and the staff seems flustered . The tuna in the spicy tuna roll didn't look fresh; I ate it with the hope that I wouldn't get sick. The eel avocado rolls looked ok, but it's more difficult to check quality after it's cooked & sauced. It tasted fine. Very disappointed by the very small size of the shrimp gyoza + the pork gyoza. I tasted the fried dumpling wrap more than any meat (flavor). I was also disappointed with the old sliced ginger... I come here often. Their food is great. They have all day 2 for 1 drinks. I always enjoyed their drinks. However, their drinks have been very watered down lately. The delivery is so slow and sushi not fresh! I live a couple of blocks away and it took 1.5 hours to deliver... It is really hit or miss, sometimes the sushi is fresh, sometimes not. Last night the sushi I ate didn't taste so fresh, but because I was so hungry from waiting 1.5 hours for delivery I ate it anyway. I have had a stomach ache ever since and feel nauseas.. My girlfriend took me for my birthday on Sunday 12/27/20. The food was good. The service was horrible. I know we are in the midst of a pandemic but customers willing to brave the cold for outdoor dining should be treated with common courtesy. It completely ruined my birthday dinner.
