Has gone very downhill in last few years. Used to be good food and drinks but not any longer. Very disappointing

Horrible food and unsanitary staff! Woman at the front spat a big chunk of her spit on her hands before counting our money! House special calamari was the worst we've ever had- thick breading and unpleasant flavor- like old burnt oil. Salt and pepper shrimp were burnt. Literally spat out the pineapple shrimp dish. Veggie dishes had an unpleasant gelatinous sauce with overcooked veggies. Broccoli was cooked to a mushy texture. Shrimp fried rice was the only edible item. This was our first and LAST time trying this place. read more

This place is solid, old school takeout. Also have a great Mai Tai. I highly recommend the Mongolian Beef and the Schezwan Spicy Chicken w/ Peanuts, but all is proper takeout. read more

We ordered a few days ago and were disappointed. We've been ordering from Hang Tai for several years and always found their food top notch... but the last few times we could tell there was a change, maybe the cooks, don't know... but the sauces were thin and watery, the HOT mustard WASNT at all hot, the Szechwan green beans weren't hot either... the sauces were bland and somewhat tasteless. Dissatisfied and disappointed... And we tried the Medway location during the pandemic last year... The WORST Chinese food we EVER HAD!!!!we'll probably look for somewhere else to get our Chinese food.. read more

Very disappointing experience at the Franklin Hang Tai. Order is consistently wrong. Order a small chow mein, get a large. Order two orders of egg rolls and get one order. Seafood Fantasia with assorted seafood only had shrimp. Back to Hang Tai in Medway. This has happened too many times. DONE! read more

Food is ok here, but not up to par like some other Chinese restaurants I've been to... I give Hang Tai such a low review because of their staff and my last two experiences here. 1) The waiters/waitresses and even bartenders are quite rude. You get rushed along to order and pay. If you are in the lounge area at a booth, like we were, the waitress we had hung around literally 6 feet from our table - annoying! 2) Also, some drunken fools approached a friend and I at the bar one night. They were being argumentative with us and were trying to cause trouble (keep in mind, we didn't even know these 2 men) and the bartender was just standing there watching us get harassed by these men!! Clearly these guys had too much to drink, but I didn't come to a place to be harassed! It's also nice to know that none of the Hang Tai staff would take action for their paying customers. read more

Fantastic food and bar scene. Highly recommended. Try the ribs and egg roll. A warm and friendly bar. Plenty of parking. Also, the hottest bar scene in downtown Franklin. A really good looking and well dressed crowd. Dress to impress. You may meet the person of your dreams. It's a great place to meet an elegant and classy date. If not, you can have an egg roll and spare ribs. Either way you will go home happy. read more

Disclaimer: the food here is actually really good( if you get take-out) I have another horror story about the refusal of service. I grew up in Franklin and have been eating here for roughly 15-20years. My fiancée and I have relocated to Colorado and have been coming to Hang-Tai every trip back home for the last 9 years. Last night, I went in with my fiancée and my sister and her boyfriend- we were refused service because of our Colorado ID's. I would understand if we were 21-22 or even LOOKED that age. My fiancé and my sisters boyfriend are all 32! Older than the damn bartender. We ordered $96 worth of takeout and wanted to have a mai-tai to celebrate a birthday. The bartender (whom I have never seen there- usually Jamie is decent enough to serve us) did not even look our id's over and upon seeing mine says "no out of state ID's". I'm wondering if this practice is even legal? I feel it is discrimination. Well anyway, they won't have to worry about my ID because I sadly will not be returning to Hang Tai ever again. Now I won't go so far as to eat at Wah Sing(disgusting), but the Bamboo House will now be taking over our Chinese food business once a year when we return. My mother has been frequenting Hang Tai about once a week for the last 15 years and she now refuses to set foot in the door. Do yourself a favor and if you need to eat food from this place- spare yourself the horribly rude customer service (AND CUSTOMERS) and just get take out. read more

Oh hang tai how i miss thee... The quality of their food was allways outstanding and always tasted like they used more than teh premade jars of goop that most places use ....I still long for their rose shrimp always amazing. Then there is their amazing staff that no matter how long in between visits... allways remembered my order as soon as i walked in... treating your servers nicely goes a long way! Try: Crab Ragoons...always crispy and had fresh crab in them ...never sweet :) Shrimp Rose : just so good and have yet to be able o find another place to make it for me. MaiTai: Fresh sour juice...and nice and strong like they should be. Almost worth the trek back to the burbs. read more

Hang Tai has some of the Best General Gau's (Jordan Chicken) I've ever had. Contrary to the Business Listing, they did not offer Delivery when I called today (Sunday). Not sure if delivery wasn't available for today only, or if they just don't deliver. read more

Horrible experience! I mean absolutely horrible. Do not be in the food business if you are not going to provide any sort of customer service! I mean come on people! The bartender refused to serve the group I was with because he "just didn't want to". Then don't have a bar! Even told someone in the group that their ID was fake, which it was not. The place wreaks of cigarette smoke and is dead quiet with no environment what so ever. A bunch of zombies staring at Keno. The staff was so rude right from the beginning of the whole experience. Seriously do not waste your time or give this restaurant your business. They seriously lost out on so much money because no of us will ever spend a dime here. read more

I really like this place, I used to just stop here for a mai tai while waiting for my wife's sushi order across the street but now I just like coming here regardless! I've only had a few items but all were great and the staff and regulars here really are awesome. I haven't written a review in while and they need a new one. Just went last night and it was as amazing as ever. Great service, great food, and great drinks. They have remolded the dinning area and it looks amazing. Very chic. The amount of food and the flavor is outstanding. We always have enough left overs for dinner the next night. Their crab rangoons, peeking ravioli, garlic noodles and beef with broccoli are our favorites. They also have the best mai tai's in the area. read more

I have been going to this place since I was a kid And continue to go with family and friends I am now 24 years old. I went in there tonight with my girlfriend who is also 24 sat right at the bar like I always do and ordered a zombie the bartender looked at our drivers licenses and refused to serve us. After going there for many years with family and friends and always being served and also not possessing a fake I.d I was more than offended to be turned down by this establishment. Not only was service denied to us but the bartender would not talk or look in my direction and clarify his reason to turning us down. So upon leaving I stated "this place is a joke" another customer then told me "get out of here you douchebag" as I was leaving I decided to call and have a casual discussion and compromise on a solution to checking identification. I suggested rather than taking a single look at an I.D there are scanners machines and multiple other ways to identify a fake I.D. Not to mention this individual who denied me service has served me in the past no questions about anything. During the call he would talk over me even after I said "I'm not arguing I just want to talk" he continued to talk which I couldn't understand and hung up on me. My overall experience tonight was very bad I've never ever in my life have been treated like this and the rudeness that followed when trying to come up with a simple solution is just a terrible remark on their customer service all and all if this individual can't recognize a legitimate Massachusetts drivers license and is going to be rude to the customer willing to give money to keep a business going they should not be the person to interact with the customers. I can't review the food or drinks at this restaurant. Why? Because after my friends and I (WHO ARE ALL OF LEGAL DRINKING AGE WITH VALID IDS) ordered a mai tai the server said he doesn't want to serve us because HE feels ages 21 and 22 are too young to drink alcohol and then says "how about a coke" and after refusing us of legally purchasing an alcoholic drink he ignored us the entire rest of our visit. Hang Tai used to be great; lately the food tastes like it's been reheated more than once; it can still be good, especially if you order something not found on the luncheon special. The drinks are powerful for sure, and the bar is always busy, but I miss the quality and freshness of the old days. Had a craving for egg foo yong a couple of weeks ago, and poured the gravy that came with it down the sink..it was awful! If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Some things just never change. 2 YEARS AGO...my friends and I walked into Hang Tai at 8:45pm. Their closing time was listed as 10pm. We only wanted to grab a few drinks, but was told they were "closing soon" so when we asked "should we leave?" without hesitation, they replied "YES" in the most rude way I have ever experienced. We still speak of this night to this very day. Fast forward to TONIGHT. My same group of friends and I decided to give Hang Tai a second chance. We all grew up in Franklin together and have remained close friends for 20 years. I live in Maryland now and am visiting for my dad's 60th birthday. I do not get to come home too often and was very excited to be out with my OG squad. We walked into Hang Tai to get a few cocktails. When I handed my Maryland ID to the bartender, he immediately THREW it back at my face and coldly said "no out of state ID's" when I asked "why?" all he said was "policy" in again, the most RUDE way I have ever experienced. I am almost 24 years old. One of the lowlife regulars sitting there turned to me and said "no out of state ladies" like I was stupid or something. I do not appreciate being talked down to, and was taken a back by the service. There were also about 10 people sitting in there, so it's not like business was or has been booming. Probably because of all the people they turn away. I am Franklin MA MADE. Born and raised. I will not be disrespected like this any longer. DO NOT GO HERE. Just an FYI for my latest review.. Do NOT go to this place under ANY circumstances!! Horrible and gross food.. VERY bad service.. Food was COLD and disgusting.. The service was Terrible.. no silverware, dirty, sticky tables and the place is SO old with cobwebs and messy carpet.. They were certainly quick to bring the bill with the ENTIRE amount of the check even though the food was inedible.. they then had the audacity to try and put an 18% automatic gratuity in.. One of the only decent Chinese food places around. Take out is fast, but perfectly done (some places don't do take out well). I have a lot of experience eating excellent Chinese food, and as far as I'm concerned, Hang Tai is the only joint in the Town of Franklin to consider (unless you want sushi or "fusion"). read more

We always judge a Chinese Restaurant by their Crab Rangoon. The Rangoon here was always fantastic, light and crisp, not greasy and with just the right amount of scallions. We sometimes pick up just the Crab Rangoon to have as an appetizer with our home cooked meal because we enjoy them so much. We won't be doing so anymore! The new version is rubbery and greasy. The absolute WORST spot in the northeast for Chinese food. First and foremost, the service is absolutely terrible. The staff is rude and unaccommodating and biased. My fiancé and I went for dinner, decided to have a drink with our meal and were refused service because we didn't have "two forms of ID" after showing our valid Massachusetts drivers licenses. Guy literally didn't serve us based on our looks. I literally could've slapped that karate kid... pansies. And the lady there is loud and obnoxious and apparently doesn't care about losing business. She looks like a few men have taken her around the block a couple times if ya know what I mean. No wonder the restaurant smells like rotten tuna. The food here is comparable to the bacteria bottom feeders eat in a bay. A combination of trash, raw sewage and fish guts. I literally went home and spent my night hugging the porcelain and saying "why me, God". It amazes me the rotten service and even more rotten substance that they pass off as food. I'm going to reach out to the franklin board of health because what they are serving tastes like that of the contents of the drain outside. It's funny because it's not like people are breaking down the door to get into this dive. Hopefully the word will spread to STAY AWAY and a reputable place will open when this dump goes belly up. read more
