10:10am and doors aren't open.

Really great climbing gym, and one of the bigger ones offered by Hangar 18. Have been to Hangar 18 gyms in Arcadia, Upland, and Long Beach, and while each have their specific strengths and idiosyncrasies, this is generally ranks near the top. It has both good climbing walls and bouldering areas, clean bathrooms, changing areas, and great, helpful staff. Had to come here on a few occasions since the closer LA and SB counties' locations were still shut down due to COVID, and came when reservations were required, numbers were limited, masks required, etc. The only reason this doesn't get 5/5 stars was because one time three of us booked a 10am slot and despite all of the climbers waiting outside and calling and knocking on the doors, no one was there to open up and we ended up leaving almost an hour later, so that kinda sucked.

First, Hanger 18 is a gym (so don't be like me and dress cute). This gym is pretty big and offers bouldering and power rope climbing. I'm trying to get back into shape and thought I'd try climbing... I went for a month and primarily stayed in the kiddie's terrain. I strongly encourage you to watch videos if you've never done this before (to learn how to use equipment and prepare yourself for your life workout). I'm not a fan of heights and have zero upper body strength, yet I had the raddest time at Hanger 18. The staff is super helpful and two hours goes by super quick here.

It was $66 for two adults if you want to get the day package and $6 more for the monthly membership (which comes out at $36 for each). If you know you only want to go to try it out for the day I would say jump on Groupon and get that discount, after checking I saw a 50% discount that would have saved me $30. If you know decide that you loved it and want to invite a friend next time I would say totally get the membership bc you can bring a friend for free and you can split the cost after :) Regardless, the staff was really friendly especially Anthony who was who helped us and taught of the belay lesson. Really laid back that made you feel comfortable to ask for clarification and questions. It is SUPER HOT especially in the summer time so make sure you bring enough water because they do NOT have a water refill station which really doesn't make sense for a so called gym. With the fans spread around it still has you sweating bullets which I guess is fine as you get a better workout. Pretty clean & spacious place a request as a newbie would be that they had more of the first "level" areas spread across

Had the best time with my nieces!! They absolutely love this place. The gentleman that helped us was very nice and professional. He even recommended to going to one of the other locations because it had more than one available option for new climbers.

Great Gym the staff is friendly and there's a lot of great routes. Would highly recommend.

Need a chalk bag, like this whimsical 8b+ bag, shoes, or other climbing supplies? They got it at the front. Drinks and snacks too.

Love this place, could not live without it. They have Auto Belays, makes it possible to climb the high walls solo.

Rock City in Anaheim is cheaper for a day pass, but you don't have as much bouldering, top roping, or space.

Do not drive to the climbing area, the Riverside Police will ticket you. 5 star sport climbing, 2/3 star area. It's an old quarry in an urban area, litter, dirt bikes, and graffiti will mar your experience. A short approach with a fantastic selection of 5.11's-5.13's. Rock climbing is never completely safe, but the area is maintained and was developed with safety as a priority. This is not an old school crag with long run outs. If you are an aspiring rock star, this is an excellent area to hone your skills. If you are a beginning climber, climb in Slab City and Schoolhouse Rock areas, these areas were made to help you get started. A video overview of the area, to help you find your way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JZLiizx5js If you climb here frequently, buy the guidebook, help Louie Anderson pay for the development of the area (bolts, hangars & fixtures).

Even though I bought a 70 meter rope just in case I did head out there, I was still wondering what it would be like. Ah, it's fine. The hike in is a little strewn with what looks like a badly broken apart mattress, and there is some graffiti on the rock, but otherwise the place is basically one long wall with lots of climbing. It is shaded in the morning with the sun hitting it around mid day, so be prepared for the heat of the IE to come bearing down on you. The climbs themselves are pretty good, though I have only done a few so far. There is loose rock, but in this day and age, you should be wearing a helmet when you are belaying (if not when climbing as well). The routes are all sport, with chains or rings set up for anchors and bolts placed fairly close together. I never thought I was running anything out when leading.

Wow - just WOW! Last Sunday (November 22, 2020) I finally got to check Rock Climbing off my bucket…read morelist, thanks to "Rock Climb Every Day" (yes, they are taking reservations during COVID and implementing all the necessary COVID protocols). Last year I successfully climbed to the top of Yosemite's Half Dome - without a doubt, it was one of the most memorable + accomplishment-filled outdoorsy adventures I've ever experienced. My first rock climbing adventure is definitely up there. In fact, my Half Dome adventure is what sparked my interest in Rock Climbing. By the way, if you're looking for an amazing Half Dome experience, I highly recommend REI Adventures and book with Scott - be sure to check out my 5-star "Half Dome Day Hike" Yelp review. Scott is an avid Rock Climber and he knows all the cool and underground rock climbing spots :) I've found that it's challenging to find people who love outdoorsy adventures like me. So, I usually end up doing these type of activities solo. I book directly through adventure companies to help ensure I have a safe, education and of course a FUN experience. Booking through "Rock Climb Every Day" couldn't have been more perfect from start to finish. In fact, I'm looking forward to booking another adventure with them. They cater to all levels of rock climbing from beginners to experienced. Most of all, they know how to make outdoor rock climbing easy and fun. They offer beginner rock climbing classes, rock climbing adventures, rappelling adventures, private instruction, family climbing packages, multi-day packages, parties + groups, climbing anchor class, sport climbing, trad climbing and much more! I consider myself a complete novice rock climber. Absolutely no experience - not even indoor climbing. Crazy, right? But I do consider myself athletic as I competed as a pro-Am Muay Thai fighter for almost a decade. Even with that kind of experience, I found the climb to challenging, scary, but most of all, FUN. Our instructor Jim was knowledgeable, timely, communicative and fun! Without his guidance, I don't think I could have made it to the top of the 5.7 climb. He was there every step (literally every inch) of the way. It was truly a "team" effort. We completed 6 climbs ranging from 5.4 to 5.7 (level of difficulty). There were a total of 4 people in our group. 2 had some indoor experience and the other 2 (including myself) had zero experience. And let me tell you - I'm scared to death of heights. Scared AF!!! But isn't it amazing how the BEST things that ever happen in LIFE are the ones we were resistant to get involved with because of fear?? Trust me, it's not easy but stop running away from fear, run towards it! If you don't take action now, you likely never will. Your fears will win + will continue to win until you break the pattern. Start saying YES to fear. The scarier something is, the more you need to do it. I couldn't have overcome my fear of rock climbing without the help + guidance of "Rock Climb Every Day." What are you scared of right now? Rock climbing? What are you telling yourself you can't have, not yet? Rock Climbing? What are you trying to "figure out first"? Rock Climbing? My advice. STOP thinking. STOP trying to figure it out. Say yes to fear; yes to uncertainty. Say YES to Rock Climbing. Overall, an amazing 5-star experience with Rock Climb Every Day. Book your adventure at https://rockclimbeveryday.com - maybe I'll see you on my next adventure? :)

My boys just got home from Camp Nawakwa and had the time of their lives!…read more My older son was homesick and his cabin counselor, Squirrel, did amazing calming him and getting him involved. There was lots of activities and they had options so they could choose the things that interested them. Swimming, crafts, archery, drama, rock climbing. They had a dance and camp fires, they performed skits. When I went to pick them up my little one had lost his voice from singing and cheering so much. My homesick boy didn't want to leave... He even asked to go back for the next weeks session. Days later they are still singing their cabin songs and telling stories about what they did while they were there. I know my kids can't wait to go back and I'm so thankful they had this experience.
