First of all, Fredericksburg is a suprisingly adorable town that would make for a fantastic romantic or girls getaway. Especially if you stay at the Hangar Hotel. Located at the Gillespie County airport, the hotel is a great stay for aviation enthusiasts. The place is wonderfully decorated with a WWII South Pacific-era feel. The front lobby features old suitcases and aviation inspired art and photography. Right off the lobby is the Officer's Club, a comfortable bar and lounge with squishy red leather chairs, great fireplace and pool table. Most evenings feature a live piano player. The rooms are all king beds, very comfortable and large rooms, carrying on the WWII theme. If you can, get the apartment suite that also features a kitchen with refrigerator, stove/oven and sink. Next to the hotel building is a second building that houses a cute airport diner and event spaces. The Conference Center is great for smaller gatherings complete with an old-style cinema marquee. The room though, is still large (we put 2 small airplanes inside in addition to about 6 round tables). You can put a message on the marquee and personalize your event. Separated by two meeting rooms, on the other side of the building is the truly special Pacific Showroom. The decor takes South Pacific to the extreme with a tiki hut bar, small wicker chairs, tables of 4 and couch set ups, palm trees, a 40's style car on a turntable and beach scenes painted on the doors (that are actually airplane hangar doors that can be opened or closed for the event). There is also a stage that is great for live entertainment. Really cool room for a unique event. The staff is so unbelievably kind and helpful. Jennifer, the event planner is flexible and easy to work with, Mary the bartender is sweet as can be. She knew my name the moment I walked in the door and remembered it all weekend. Her fellow bartender Seth is tons of fun. They kept the bar opened late every night for us (probably because we pretty much kept an open tab all weekend). Buddy and Steven at the desk are so nice and hospitable. The chef Craig is cool too, suggesting different dishes for our events and bringing us back into the kitchen for a taste test. We could not have asked for a better event space, staff and overall ambiance. My only complaints are that the TV channels suck (there are only about 6 stations) and there is no pool. But heck, if you are in Fredericksburg, you shouldn't hole yourself up in your room anyway, check out the quaint shops on Main Street or hit up the local spas and wineries. read more

Being an aviation enthusiast I really like the aviation theme. Aviation everything and a 1940's feel. Downside is that you are about a five minute drive from everything else in Fredericksburg. On the weekends (Friday and Saturday) there is a lot going on. We got there on a Saturday and left on a Monday. So when we arrived there were lots of planes on the ramp and lots of activity at the bar and diner. Sunday night the place was pretty dead and I am glad we were not staying past Monday. Sunday morning at the diner we watched all the planes leave. Monday morning all the planes were gone (empty ramp), the bar was closed and so was the diner. The Room: Nice room with a comfortable bed and nice 1940's theme bathroom. One big negative in our room (and all the rooms?) is that it was dark at night. Oh so dark.... You don't want one of these rooms if you are having bouts of depression. It may be because of the dark painted walls, but it felt like a cave at night. Although there were about five lamps it was always dark. Maybe they need higher watt bulbs? The other reason is that there is not light at all at the entrance. Most rooms have an entry light in the ceiling as you enter. I ended up leaving the bathroom light on all the time because otherwise there was no light at all in the entry. Summary Plus: Great aviation and 1940's theme. Beautiful lobby, bar, diner, big modern rooms. Summary Negative: Located five minutes from other activities in Fredericksburg, not much going on during the week so the bar and diner are closed, the rooms do not have enough night lighting. read more

Really liked staying here. It's worth being a little outside of town for the uniqueness of this place. The only downsides, which we didn't figure out until we arrived, are that the diner is closed Monday and Tuesday, only serves breakfast and lunch the other days, and the officer's club bar is only open Thursday through Saturday. So it's best to come on a weekend. read more

The Hangar Hotel has stolen my heart. Good size rooms, polite & helpful staff, reasonable prices, cute diner, airfield to watch from the porch and the "officers club" bar - all lovely and the decor just brought it together with the perfect atmosphere. I slept like a baby, enjoyed defeating my fiancé in a game of pool and watching the airplanes fly in and out. Also super close to downtown Fredericksburg, but far enough away that it is quiet and peaceful at night. The PERFECT weekend getaway for someone who loves airplanes and a little quirky charm. We had a great time here for New Year's Eve and the Diner was great for breakfast. Staff were wonderful and kind; especially Kim at front desk. My wife and I have stayed here 2 years in a row. Great hotel and the staff is very nice. It's nice to hang out in the bar in the evening with the live music. You can also go out and watch the aircraft land and take off. Next door is airport Dinner and nice to walk there and have breakfast. The old 1940s aviation theme makes it a nice getaway. read more

My husband and I had a great stay here on our Texas Hill country road trip. The room was clean and had a vintage WW2 theme, which was cute! The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, and answered a lot of questions about things to do in the area and places to eat. The bar-The Officers Club-was fun. Our bartender made us some great drinks and there was live piano music. In the morning there was delicious blueberry scones, coffee, fruit and juice. We will definitely return read more

This is a unique place to stay when out in the Hill Country. Who can be upset about having their morning coffee basically on the tarmac while watching the plane takeoff and land?! It was a very cool way to spend the morning. They did a really nice job with the small details. The clocks, lamps, and overall decor of the rooms themselves help keep the ambience of an older style hotel all while keeping the modern creature comforts up to par. There is free coffee and pastry in the morning, and the bar serves up mixed nuts and pub mix at happy hour. Where they fall short is a lack of food during dinner time though you can order pizza from a local pizza joint. There is also a lack of tv's in the bar, and a very limited channel selection to begin with. read more

This place is too cool! A hotel right on a live air strip with personal planes to see watching them land and take off. A swanky officers club, diner next door. Booooo.... Hangar Hotel now has a "no kids" policy. Can't even stop in to watch the airplanes. Seems that recently some unmonitored kiddos accidentally broke the wing off of one of the airplanes, so they decided to not allow kids here, period. That seems a bit harsh, in my humble opinion. I give this hotel 3 stars. It has a nice atmosphere, lounge and friendly staff. The bed is the hardest thing I have ever slept on and the pillows were huge and very hard. It's Labor Day weekend, Sunday, and the bar is closed. Everyone in the hotel is bored with nothing to do. It would of been nice to have a night cap after a day of drinking Texas wines. read more

This charming hotel might be my favorite place ever. I first surprised my boyfriend with a visit here after he was accosted into officer school for the Air Force. The 1940's decor is perfectly executed and so elegant. They really stay true to theme all the way from the front desk to the individual rooms. The officer lounge is full of dark wood and beautiful large chairs that make it the perfect spot to sit, have a drink, and listen to the piano. This is our second year back and we fully intend on making it back every year. read more

This is a no kids allowed hotel which to me is a huge bonus! Makes for a really quiet relaxing stay. Rooms are pretty basic. It's nice to sit on the deck sipping a drink watching planes take off & land. It can be a bit boring if there isn't any airplane action going on. The bar lounge area is nice but don't stay for long to many great wineries around. Cabernet Grill is really close & has amazing food!! There is a diner next door with a runway view it does allow kids. Food is just ok & it has really weird hours. The only negative about this hotel is that's it's far from all the wineries & the town. read more

We stayed here 7/25/19 and had a wonderful time. We were greeted at the door graciously and felt very comfortable and welcome. I felt that the staff really appreciated our visit. Lots of WWII memorabilia decorate the lobby and rooms. The room was very clean and comfortable. Coffee or Tea, and scones and fruit were ready in the lobby at 5:00 am. Booked this reservation based on Yelp reviews which were largely favorable. After my stay here, I would give the place 2 stars at a max. It is not a hotel-more of a motel. Not the standard I am used to staying in. I prefer something a bit more luxurious and thought the website description and YELP reviews were a tad misleading. After staying here, I would not recommend staying here if you typically enjoy a nice, luxury hotel room. If you stay at Courtyards or LaQuinta, then maybe this is ok. Only stayed here one night. Originally had tried to book one of the nice B&B's in Fredericksburg, but they were all 2 night minimums on weekends. Forced to choose between this place and hotel/motels. read more

Stayed here recently on a touristy trip to visit Fredericksburg. Very unique atmosphere! Loved the history and aviation theme. Room was very comfortable and nicely decorated in the theme. Diner right on site was great. Loved watching the small planes land while we ate. Similar prices to a standard hotel, but has so much more character. Only downside was that they advertised that they offered breakfast items. We assumed toast, bagels, cereal, some juice... but it was only some apples and a few small pastries. Not nearly enough to fill 4 of us up for breakfast. Just don't advertise that you serve a continental breakfast if you really don't! read more

My husband and I enjoyed one night here in Oct. 2016. The whole idea is very nice! Before the Admiral's club opened, we took our own beer out onto the porch/bar area that overlooks the planes and runway. Nice early evening to sit and watch planes come in and out. Had a couple of tasty drinks at the Admiral's club when it opened--very pleasant bartender making very nice drinks. Loved the 1940's era music especially! In the morning, we had a fab breakfast at the Hangar Diner. Highly recommend it for a different, unique atmosphere. read more

We stayed here for one quick night getaway and were pleasantly surprised. A hotel in a hangar might seem odd, cheesy or even ramshackle but the Hangar Hotel is none of these. we were pleasantly surprised with how luxe it is. The room was comfortable with a 50s decor but modern amenities. The lounge was excellent as was the piano player who was featured that evening. Absolutely recommend this quaint spot. read more

Our group met at the Hangar Hotel from February 6th through the 10th, 2019. The hotel staff was very accommodating to all of our needs. Since many of our members are military veterans from several years past, we felt very much at home in the WWII military ambiance of the hotel. Reception and meeting meals were ably prepared by "The Diner" affiliated with the hotel, and there was an excellent pianist Friday evening at the "Officer's Club." We stayed over thanksgiving. The hotel was fantastic! Although the beautiful bar was closed due to the holiday we made the most of the lounge amenities and had a great family visit. The diner next door had amazing breakfast. The airplanes flew in from all direction - so cool to watch from the deck! Also very appealing to us - this us an adults only hotel. Very peaceful! Small, cozy, quaint with super nice front desk clerks. One suggestion - a little more variety on the continental breakfast would be great. We will be back read more

Stayed two nights and loved the hotel. Staff pleasant- decor is fun - 1940s. Observation deck is great. I would stay again, just a couple of pet peeves- I get that it is more cost effective to use flat sheets instead of fitted but honestly flat sheets never stay tucked. The room air conditioner in my room 24- was very noisy. The weather was nice enough to sleep with the windows open but no screens so bugs kept flying in. read more

Over rated and expensive. The rooms are ok but nothing special especially for the high price. The officers club is very small and the worst part was the so called live music. A guitar guy only that mostly just chatted instead of playing. It was very boring for our group and the drinks are very pricy. The best part is their diner for breakfast. Nicely done and good food. This is one of my favorite hotels anywhere. I was here once before when I landed at this small airport, and I was happy that I had the opportunity to come here again. Everything wonderful about the hotel and Fredericksberg has been said below. The only thing I would add is that you should come on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday because the lovely bar is not open the other nights of the week. The lady at the front desk, Carol, was friendly and helpful. We went downtown for dinner and when we returned to the hotel Carol said "there is coffee and cookies here if you would like some". That was a nice touch. A continental breakfast is also included in your stay here. read more

Already one of our favorite places in Fredericksburg, we decided to use the Pacific Showroom for our wedding rehearsal dinner venue in April. Wonderful food, incredible atmosphere and great service -- a perfect place for a larger group, especially one with lots of children (they absolutely loved it!). A car club I belong to recently stayed at the Hangar Hotel as our host venue for 3 days. Lauren, Kelly, Mary, and the rest of the staff were awesome! The rooms were clean, The Officer's Club and décor was phenomenal, and the conference spaces were perfectly suited to our needs. Not only is this place very unique with its location actually on the ramp at Gillespie County Airport, where you can sit and watch the planes all day, it is an exceptional destination for large groups. We came here with my 89 year old father, WW II Navy vet, to see the Museum of the Pacific. It was perfect! The front desk staff so helpful, the diner was such a great piece of nostalgia and wonderful for breakfast. The warm chocolate chip cookies, coffee all day and continental breakfast in the morning, a real treat. The piano music in the Officer's Club was wonderful and Mary in the bar ran it like it was her living room. When the weather turned nasty, we ordered a pizza and sat in front of the fireplace to eat. It was quiet, adult oriented, and we liked being away from the traffic and bustle of the town. It was a short trip back in town for shopping. Such a unique experience! We stayed Saturday evening to Tuesday morning. Awesome front lobby staff on all shifts the entire trip. Pleasant room, though the AC did not cool it down to more than 72ish degrees. What you should know is the onsite bar is not open Sunday-Tuesday and the onsite dinner is closed Monday and Tuesday as well ( there is however free coffee, fruit, scones, and juice available daily).
