I was super shocked to realize that NYC has 2 Hangry Joes Hot chicken locations. I had to make it all the way to Virginia to give them my first bite. And what. A. Mighty Bite. I love spicy, hot foods! Nothing could have prepared me for the heat that HJHC is packing! I usually go for medium when trying spice levels because I respect a good pepper but have also been heavily disappointed by other restaurants. Let's just say that my sinuses got a reset that first day. The service is friendly, precise and informative. The staff really want to ensure a good experience. I was so focused on the proteins that I neglected to try the sides. I don't think I'm the only one who does this. In any case, we got a mild chicken sando, a Messy sando, and a 12 wing special (12 wings for $12), along with drinks. This location has an ATM, individual stall bathrooms for men/women and a small seating area. Napkins are on the table and I strongly suggest you grab a bunch, have wetnaps ready or better yet, wash your hands after eating! This place is great! Good find even if it's not fancy. read more

Finally getting to try Hangry Joe's! I heard shortpump was their best location but I'm not sure our experience could be beat. I love anywhere you can order online. Online ordering was super easy had an options for modifications and photos of all menu items. We ordered two Mega Sandos - medium heat one with cheese and one with extra pickles. This sandwich is a Mega good deal. Great bang for your buck. I don't know where they get these mega chickens at, we were really impressed with the size of this sandwich. The ingredient quality was also really good. Perfect amount of slaw and those pickles.. THOSE PICKLES were amazing. We shared one order of waffle fries (not pictured because we ate them in the car) and we should've ordered our own. Amazing fries with the crispy seasoning. The hangry sauce was delish, glad we ordered extra but each sando came with some sauce.The food held up really well on our 20ish minute commute. The food was wrapped really nicely and definitely packed with care. I was greeted by a friendly staff member who read off all the items in my order (including the Sando mods) and they made sure everything was included. Amazing customer service!! Even thought the chicken breast was too much for the bun by size, the brioche bun still layered in too much bread. The slaw on the sandwich was great. The mild Hangry sauce was tasty. Fantastic sandwiches with generous portions. The brioche bun is well stuffed with slaw, pickles, and sauce, and the chicken is cooked perfectly with a great level of spice for everyone's preference, making for a fantastically balanced bite full of flavor. Even the fries are cooked and seasoned well with a nice crispy exterior and airy inside. The house made sauce is also fairly good. While I appreciate everything being cooked freshly making for nice hot fresh food, the wait time is a bit on the longer side. The staff was quite friendly and service was efficient. The space inside has a few tables and is clean, but is a bit smaller and definitely making it more of a takeout spot. Heading in the wrong direction. Been to the place maybe 10 times. My last visit remember me more of a run down place in the city. Seems like they have decided to no longer mow the grass or pick up trash in the parking lot. Printed out pieces or paper taped to the walls explaining menus items. Just looks bad. Solid choice for Nashville hot chicken. Can take a decent amount of time to prepare an order for two, so might be worth ordering ahead. There are a few tables inside, but it's definitely more of a to-go establishment. The chicken sandwich is huge -- maybe 20-30% bigger than you might find at CFA. The filet itself is quite generous, and you will start to feel the heat if you go medium or hotter; thankfully this is offset somewhat by the sweet cole slaw and giant pickle slice. I have been going to this place for a couple of years now and have huge cravings to do so often. I am obsessed with their homemade Hangry side sauce. I have asked them several times for the recipe yet they will not divulge its deliciousness. I have very few complaints about this place. One, is that it typically takes too long, but I understand it's made to order. I typically call ahead and drive there and then get it. By the time I get there, it's ready. I also do this because it's typically so temperature hot it cooks down by the time I get home. I can't go past the mild but I'm sure all levels are good! I have a friend who eats napalm and he tends to enjoy the hottest they have. He says it's a good sandwich. Whatever. Don't go to this location - the Short Pump one has WAY better service, ownership, and atmosphere!! This location was closer on a lazy Saturday so we ordered from it. Side sauces are extra, which is no issue at all, we ordered extra sauces only to not receive them and then when we politely showed the ticket with our bags missing them and asked if we could get them they denied not adding any and then were extremely aggravated to have to go to the kitchen and put sauce in cups. After that we took the food to go as planned and discovered that we also did not receive the side of slaw we ordered. This location has consistently had poor customer service and issues with order correctness which is sad because when they first opened they were a 5/5 stars. read more

We stopped by this place while on a road trip. We got both the spicy and mild fried chicken sandwiches as well as a rice bowl with Korean fried chicken. The chicken sandwiches were by far some of the best chicken sandwiches we've had in a while. The chicken was not only very nicely crispy but also incredibly juicy and fresh. We enjoyed our experience eating the sandwich so much that we actually stopped by again on the way back from our road trip. The Korean fried chicken rice bo was nicely flavored but the chicken was not as crispy as other places. So the five stars is more for the chicken sandwiches. After hearing so much positive press about a Hangry Joe's location in Northern VA and when I found myself near this one in the Richmond area, I HAD to stop in to give it a try! I got there soon after they opened for the day. The guy at the register who took care of me was very helpful and friendly when explaining the menu. The place was very clean and nicely arranged and perfectly stocked with everything needed to enjoy lunch there. I tried their sando combo in medium heat and it was EXCELLENT! They do a PERFECT job preparing a BEAUTIFUL sandwich and wrapping is just right before putting it in a large box that holds it properly so as to allow the person enjoying it to appreciate their attention to detail! The flavor was GREAT, even if it were slightly dryer than I prefer, it was still really good! The slaw was FRESH and so were the excellent pickles on the sandwich. The fries that accompanied this sandwich were really good... perfectly seasoned and unique, as I don't typically see seasoned waffle fries. The dipping sauce for the fries was decent, but I chose to use their packets of Heinz ketchup in lieu of it. Overall, I was happy with my lunch! It wasn't the best "hot" style chicken sandwich I've ever had (that would still be a place in Dale City, VA), but it was really good, bordering on great! read more

A great spot to stop being hangry! I got the chicken sando, medium heat, and it was perfectly cooked! I loved the slaw on the sandwich and the spices on the chicken were exactly what I was craving! I got the angry hot chicken fingers, you actually have to sign a waiver, and they were really really spicy. They start out okay and you get to enjoy the flavor, but after a few seconds you get hit with the heat! My boyfriend got the loaded fries and was grateful for the higher than expected amount of chicken. I'll definitely return if i'm in the area. Not true complaints here. I finally got to get my fired chicken fix and try the newest hot chicken restaurant. Ordered the chicken and waffles as well as the chicken sando combo with fries. Chicken and Waffles: pretty great flavor waffle with about 4 chicken tenders Chicken Sando: huge thick chicken breast sticking out of a nice warmed brioche bun. I wish I chose mild seasoning but I was scared it was going to be to hot after reading reviews. Very juicy and tender. Wish it was a tad crispier but cant complain overall. The fries tasted like curly fries but were actually waffle fries... So that threw me off a little bit. Staff were friendly and the wait for food was maybe 5 minutes. I give this place a B. I had high expectations coming to it because I love Hattie B's, Howlin Rays, Daves, etc. I enjoyed it but think there is tons of room for improvement. Primarily with the size and amount of seasoning on the tenders. The popular Nashville chicken spots have huge tenders covered in seasoning to make them a dark red. These were surprisingly small. Like the size of Bojangles chicken tenders. They also were pretty light on seasoning. You can see my photo of one of the chicken tenders (level 'Hot'). I think if they can fix those two things this place will be crazy popular and I will certainly go all the time. Flavor was good, the sauce on the side is great, and the pickles were delicious. The Korean nuggets were the "best" part, yet there was so much sauce it was very soupy. The wings (we ordered medium rub) were awful and we could only eat two: very greasy and breaded (not a good breading, either) and the sauce must have had some ingredient that made us feel sick. The ranch dressing was tasteless and the waffle fries, which should have been the saving grace, were very cold and hard. We are in our 50's and I don't think we have ever gone to a place to eat where we threw away pretty much the entire meal. And it wasn't cheap, either- over $40 with NO drinks! I have been greatly looking forward to coming here since this place opened but it is truly not worth the hype. I purchased the Loaded Fries and I really regret doing so. It included: - Mild Chicken - Waffle Fries - Jalapeño (chopped into very big pieces) - Cheddar Cheese - Some "meh" sauce - Pickles - Fresh copped ends of a carrot That's right: it seemed like they threw in the discarded chopped ends of some carrots. It was extremely odd and the menu did not mention that it would include the carrots and the pickles. The online kiosk we used to place our order also did not give us the option to remove these two. The chicken also was disappointing. It was amazingly moist but (I am unsure if it was because of the sauce or the breading) it tasted like a spicy Cheeto. That's the best way I can describe it!
