I loved, loved, loved this location! Handy Joe's Hot Chicken in Silver Spring is the best! Best customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a friendly hello, how are you and a great big smile. Employee who I believe was the owner, was so attentive and helpful with the menu. Even with the other folks who came in, she took the time to show them the menu and point out different options. Customer was having a hard time with the card reader and she assisted him ethically. She was such a gem! She brought my food to me, that was really kind of her to do. My food was amazing, hot, and delicious. The coleslaw goes perfectly with the sandwich. I ordered Tostitos on the side and received a generous portion. I've read others reviews, please be mindful that the spice level, "No Heat" clearly states "may still be a little spicy," therefore medium will be spicy. If your spicy level is low, don't order it. The location was clean and well organized with all the supplies needed. Great atmosphere. Great leadership. I will be back to try their bubble tea! Plenty of free parking.

[3.5 STARS] My friend recommended this place since we were in Wheaton and she had tried the chain in Centerville, so we decided to give it a chance. First thing to note, it's in a VERY crowded parking lot, so watch out for pretty aggressive cars coming in and out. The menu was pretty straightforward, nothing too crazy. Since it is known for the "chicken sando", everyone in my party got that ($10.95 as is, $15.95 with waffle fries and a drink). Since I had a smaller appetite, I opted for the 6 piece chicken wings with medium spice which was new to the menu ($6.95). It came with a side of two pickles, spicy mayo sauce, and "coleslaw" which tasted like cabbage with a hint of sugar and vinegar. What's noteworthy is that the size of the chicken in the chicken sando is double the size of the bun, so it's sticking out the taste itself was very comparable to Popeyes, so it was nothing too too special minus the size of the chicken. My disappointment was that I was hoping my wings would be spicier. My friend said medium spice in the Centreville location was SUPER hot, and I got absolutely no kick in my wings. Oh well. The waffle fries were okay, but the taste got old towards the end. The "spicy" mayo sauce felt like it was missing something. PS the bathroom situation was okay. Clean-ish, but everything looked like it was breaking down or falling apart. The mirror had black splotches, the soap dispenser was broken as was two of their toilet paper holders... I was surprised that their hand dryer was decent. Overall, it's not a bad place to try if you're in the Wheaton area, but given the parking and flavor circumstances today, I probably won't go back.

Tenders, Wings and Chicken bites. Extra hot for me and plain no spicy for the love of my life!

We came all the way from FL to visit DC and was told that this place has the best fried chicken! This was truly a great experience eating here. The bathroom was clean and the staff member was very welcoming. He gave us a whole run down of the menu. The spice level is very hot so be careful if you're not a fan of spicy. They have a plain option which was still very tasty! I will recommend this place to all my family and friends that want to travel to DC.

Never had Nashville hot chicken but it was so good! Definitely pricey for a chicken sandwich but worth it. It was crispy yet juicy, flavorful, and filling. I ordered the medium and didn't think it was spicy at all. Since you had to sign a waiver for the spiciest one i thought two steps down would be spicy enough but it was not. I recommend getting the slaw on the side since i could see it was veryy drippy and messy to eat. Came with a friend who tried their Travilah location and said here was much better. Space was kind of small though.

Great quality, great taste, and great prices! They serve the best Korean fusion Nashville chicken sandwich :) Personally, I prefer the Wheaton location over the others because their service is excellent, and I believe they offer larger portions (in my opinion). Definitely give it a try!

I thought I knew what hot was but I was wrong. Their Chicken Sando is on fire. Literally. I got the hot... and I couldn't handle the heat. After drinking so much water, this sandwich essentially became two meals cause I had to save it for later. Now this made me wonder for a moment if I am a masochist cause I'm curious on their angry hot. That aside, my 7yo son had the mild and he found it too hot. I noticed they did have a no heat option but I thought mild and no heat was synonymous... but I was wrong. Also I considered giving him a bite of my hot but thought that would be mean and borderline childabuse. So I offered it to my 4yo daughter which she politely declined after telling her mom. I'm now sleeping on the couch eating the rest of my fire bird sandwich wondering about my life choices.

Your pretty average chicken sandwich spot, I would put roaming roosters above this. The piece of chicken in the sandwich was long which i appreciated. Their store sauce made the sandwich slightly better but overall 6.4/10... Not terrible but probably would explore other chicken sandwich spots before returning to this one. Cannot advocate on the fries as I did not order them but they do have waffle fries which could have potential. Love yours, ExquisiteTasteBuds

Got the spicy level "Hot" chicken sandwich. Got maybe 3-4 hiccups. It was hot, but I crushed it no problem without milk.

Got the spicy level "Hot" chicken sandwich carry out about 5-7 minutes to receive after placing order. It was definitively hot, but I crushed it without milk. My heat tolerance is higher than average. After reading these reviews, thought it was gonna be hotter. The owner @ the register seemed nice & well intentioned, but I wish a little less proactively helpful. Communicating in English was a challenge. She appeared to be fluent in Español. I'll be back! Next time I'm also getting Okra. And depending on my mood, I'll do angry hot. "Hot" was a good temperature so you're not hating yourself for 30 minutes. But I like to live.

One of the best fried chicken sandwiches in the DMV! Great value for the price - the picture doesn't do it justice but the piece of chicken is seriously huge, and perfectly juicy and well-seasoned too. There does seem to be a pretty big gulf between the medium and the hot. If you want your chicken actually spicy I would go for the hot as the medium tasted much more mild to me. I would also probably ask for extra sauce on my sandwich next time - I thought the slaw would have mayo but it seemed more just like a pickled cabbage mix, which was still really good but I think a bit more sauce would have helped. Definitely will be back though!

Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken is a Nashville-Style Chicken Restaurant that is my personal favorite for a Spicy Chicken Sandwich when compared to similar style Restaurants in the DMV Area. Price$12-$20+ Per Person $11 Chicken Sandwich / $15 Chicken Combo VibeStrip-Mall Style Chicken Restaurant ParkingPlenty of parking spaces but the area is generally busy with limited available spaces Taste Assessment We tried the: -Chicken Sando Combo- (Chicken Sandwich, Waffle Fries & Drink) Chicken Sandwich is a huge all white meat chicken breast (double the size of the bun or bigger), flattened & delicious. I ordered Medium (Cayenne Pepper level Heat) , you feel the heat but it's not too spicy. I only recommend Medium for people who like heat. It may be too Spicy for most. Chicken Sandwich Rating is 8.5/9 out of 10. Waffle Fries are crispy and seasoned. 8 out of 10. Service 8/10 Service was Great. Overall 9/10 Best Nashville Style Chicken Spot in the Area. I also visited the location on Landsdowne Centre Dr in Alexandria, Virginia and the taste / service is consistent amongst both locations.

Excellent service! Fast and the food is definitely worth it! I like spicy food and boba tea and it definitely balanced out! Good quick bites and flavor was good.

Small place but big flavor! Great combos that are super filling. The chicken Sando is a HUGE sandwich. Waffle fries are great and comes with a yum yum sauce. The Korean nuggets were really great with a spicy garlic flavor. Plus it had rice.

Delicious. One word can sometimes aptly summarize an experience. I went to Hangry Joe's and ordered the combo with medium heat. What I got back surpassed my expectations. It was a generous serving. The chicken stuck out from my very soft bun. The medium heat provided just the jolt that I like: hot enough to trigger my sinuses but tasty enough I kept wanting more. I am not a slaw fan, but this slaw was the right cool antidote to the heat the sauce packed. I also enjoyed that the pickles on the sandwich were thick cut. The waffles fries came piping hot. The only thing better than the food? The service. The woman at the counter was very nice. I will be back. And others should make this a stop too.

This place has so many little tidbits for living the good life, they could rename it 'Good Life…read moreStation' or 'Good Life Company' -- for the company you will keep, and how this company keeps you ... fed, nourished, and I might even say acknowledged! I found the staff to be impressively knowledgeable and encouraging. I got a small bottle of a beautiful, snowy sake in a frosted blue bottle, an Italian spritzer-type thing, a boxed Merlot -- never tried such a thing before! -- and a sour cherry lambic-like drink, plus smoked Gruyere for later pizza-making, lavender-herb easily spreadable goats' milk cheese, and a selection of olives, feta, pickled red and green peppers and lemon in one handy-dandy small and portable, easy-to-use box! I really lived it up with these items out on the porch at home later .... I greatly enjoyed my meal of Beet and Grilled Apricot salad with creamy cilantro dressing (substitute for vinaigrette), and candied pecans -- all so very mmm! I love beets and must get almost any beet salad that may potentially come my way -- and here, I had two to choose from! The one I got was a special so not always available. The peaches in it were hard enough that they didn't mush-n-gush all over. They were easy to pick up with a fork and bite without them splashing or sliding all oozy-goozy- all over the place, and they had the nice dark marks of grilling right on them, visibly, for proof of having been grilled! That was fun to see. My dining partner had the fish tacos and apparently, those were very good. The table service was really nice, friendly, professional, skilled, and knowledgeable. I wouldn't say the food was exactly prepared swiftly but I also wasn't paying attention so I'm not sure -- because I was too busy browsing and purchasing items in the adjoining store to notice when the food even arrived. I wasn't there, but buying my deliciousness-to-go! What a wonderful time-saver! It was not too loud when I was there, the sunlight was streaming in the rather large windows, and I had a great time looking at the nice lighting fixtures, perusing goods, speaking with staff, and of course eating my most delicious salad! All-around highly recommended on all fronts -- or at least all the ones I tried -- comprising both the dining and shopping experiences ....

Not a lot of patrons (or parking, oddly) when we stopped in at 1pm during the howling weekend winds. While the lean staff of two were friendly and attentive, the food was NOT served hot and really missed the mark. A real bummer on a cold day, when we were looking for something to get us out of the home. ORDERED: grilled chicken sandwich and the burger .. they've been good in the past, but maybe Wine & Co. has lost its way?
