Love this neighborhood gem and visit almost daily. The produce is always fresh and a great value. The hot deli bar is incredible and the salads are delicious, the tofu sticks are my go to (seriously, try them). The juice bar and made to order smoothies are perfect for a quick, satisfying grab and go. They also have an impressive selection of canned and bottled drinks. There's seating inside and a large patio if you want to eat there. Lunch gets busy during the week and is quieter on weekends. Shoutout to Gabe, the grill master will cook you an amazing steak or the best vegan tacos you've ever had. The entire Hank's team including the owner, is friendly and has always made me feel very welcomed and they go out of their way to help me. It's so nice to have them in the neighborhood. Loyalty in HANKS because I've been coming here since they first opened up 3-4 years ago. Considered myself a regular here. They got some of the best fish tacos on Tuesdays! The best buffalo cauliflower! The best cilantro coconut rice! The best turkey meat balls! The best Korean broccoli! The best salads! The best cold press juices! The best Bradbury smoothie! The best chipotle aioli sauce to go with any meal! Please, the sauce is truly the hit... soo fire! These are just some of my faves to name! It's a convenient organic based market where you can grocery shop for essentials and grab quick to go meals. They offer a hot food bar, an off the grill menu in the patio/outside seating, cold press juices and smoothies that are fresh made-to-order. Oh, and coffee. The staff is always welcoming. Their service is kind. I love when they welcome me with a "Hiii, Moe!" Glorious energy when humans greet you in a certain way. Hanks is definitely a place that was needed in the Art District...serving the neighborhood with their organic ways. This place isn't the biggest on the inside, it doesn't have the widest variety of items, but it is clean, staffed by welcoming people and it has at least 1 of most things I'd look for to either eat right away or use to prepare a meal. Prepared items looked a bit pricey, but I was tempted to purchase a turkey, bacon wrap - no review at press time. Standard grocery items did seem too out of line for my suburban price model eye. If you live in the area I'd try to make this place part of my life. If you work in the area, I'd make it a part of my lunch palette. Parking was good at time of visit, but street parking was feeling tougher. read more

The gentleman went and asked what was Vegan what was not vegan his service was amazing. I was starving. I ate everything before I could take a picture. I just have the quinoa tabouli.. They have outside area to sit and eat with heaters. The heaters weren't on, but they're here. Hank's organic got me by surprise. Been wanting to try this place since it is honestly the only organic supermarket in the Art District area. I found out that they have a breakfast bar and decided to go for their brisket and egg breakfast . The quality of the meat was perfect. I don't really like scrambled eggs, but these definitely tasted delicious . I give this dish 10 out of 10. coconut latte 8/10. There is also an outdoor sitting area, which was really clean and spacious plenty of sitting space for approximately 30 to 40 people. There's also plenty of parking and EV charging spaces. The service was 10 out of 10. Everyone was extremely helpful. Got to meet the manager and he very patient with me considering I had a lot of questions with their food menu. I saw this place on instagram then completely forgot about it, but somehow ended up here by happenstance. There was a guy with a grill and he was about to close up, but said I could be the last customer. So I went inside and perused the menu and saw a steak. I wanted to give the ribeye a try so I got that with a few sides, which were couscous and a caprese. The grill guy put the steak on the grill and went to work. When he was done, he asked me if I wanted A1 sauce with it. I said yes. I know all the steak connoisseurs out there would hate my answer for that, but they don't understand how a simple sauce could bring back so much nostalgia. Nostalgia of spending time at the dinner table with grandma and grandpa eating together. Those memories overcame my soul as I ate the rest of the steak and I may have shed a tear, considering how long it's been since they've been gone. I love them so much and I had an opportunity to relive a moment with them. The steak was cooked well and the sides were good. It's kinda nice eating out on a patio too so the ambiance was great, and the service was amazing all around. It's a great place to get a full steak ribeye meal for $35! read more

Hank's is what Whole Foods prepared food wishes it was. This is the perfect spot for lunch. First, they have prepared foods ready for takeaway. All of the items are prepared fresh throughout the day. I chose the chicken teriyaki which was bomb, my friend got it too and agreed the chicken was really delicious for pre-prepared food. I also got the Korean broccoli and that was SO GOOD. I can't recommend it enough! 9.5/10. It's tempura fried with a delicious sauce. You have to try it. I also got the cilantro rice, but that was just bland and greasy. I got it before I saw the other prepared cold salads. They also have a cold prepared food section which has poke, amazing salads, amazing pasta salads. You can also order several deli sandwiches and they'll make them for you. Or you can order off their grilled menu and wait for them to prepare it on the grill (they have someone outside actually grilling your food). It's not crazy overpriced, my meal was $13.20 altogether. There are more expensive options, but keep in mind everything is organic. The man who rang up my order was super friendly and patient. The food is alright. I came only for the hotbar because I heard its an erewhon dupe. I love that its organic, but honestly its the same exact price of erewhon.. just smaller portions. At erewhon their combo plates are bigger. At hanks, the side containers are shallow. At erewhon it's deeper and wider. So technically you get more there. That being said, its decent food. But this location is a bit out of the way so I wouldnt come back, I just wanted to try it. Service seems fine, ambiance looks nice. read more

They asked me how I was doing and we talked about the show I was headed to. I'm indecisive and they helped me pick out the mousse as my sweet treat and made me a fresh squeezed orange juice. Have you ever known something to be true, yet you are still surprised when it happens? And I don't mean that you are surprised by the standard that is expected. You are surprised by a twist in the known tale. I am talking about the discoveries that we know are coming yet when they arrive we are still left in wonder and warm-awe because in some way they are different in a distinct way. Like, when we walk a scary maze we know we will be horrified by a creepy or crawler or knife wielder. But then we get spooked, in a super new way, by a ghoul- perhaps a Popeye mutated by toxic and radio-active Spinach- and we know new jolting fear because Popeyes eye is open and it is colored pus green and his tattoo anchor is now a quasi-cleaver, perfect for gut harvesting. I wrote about a maze and went deep into the metaphor, hopefully, dear reader, you can follow me in and out because all I was trying to say was that Los Angeles is my city, and I know it has wonders I yet have to discover, and I did discover a new wonder- Hanks's Organic Supermarket- and I was happy that I did. I tried to draw a parallel to finding a new haunt in a maze that delights. The parallel was probably not good since I had to explain it. And as you know, a joke is not funny, if you have to explain a punchline, and thus a parellel does not offer insight if the moral has to be brought to the forefront of consciounness. I was in a nearby Sound-bath and I was too in the Zen, to drive,. My knees were in quiet space so I forced them to walk a few feet to this supermarket. I wanted some food and I had seen, as I was driving, that this place offered a prepared food section. I have had mixed experiences with prepared food sections. The food from Whole Foods, especially their chicken salad, one of them is a joy. But other prepared food sections from major chains, have food that is heaped on cafeteria style, and offers basics for consumption but not joy. I also experienced something akin when I was in college in the dorms cafeteria. But you know not all dining can be an epiphany in every spoonful. As I approached the counter I felt the potential ick of food that was not going to fill me with joy. I ended up ordering Brussels (a staple in most of my composed dishes) cilantro rices, chicken meatballs, and mash. Everything seemed to be cooked on the premises with care and was displayed in medium serving plates or other vessels that held their contents with dignity. I also ordered a tres leches to make the meal composed I sat outside their patio. The patio- as many places in the Arts district- was an industrial garden. THE structure was sleek and aluminum, maybe steel, maybe something else, with green accents all around. It was a mix of modern and old, of earth-given, and human made, it was the ying and yang of our world-- what is natural and was is made, and together it was a proverbial oasis from city noise and pace. I sat and enjoyed my meal thoroughly. The chicken meatballs had a sweet glazed and a crispy exterior that was gentle in its crisp, no crunch was heard, but taste was there. The rice was cilantro, and the mash had lumps with some cheese and when you encountered those mash bites, I was thankful that I was surprised, a new by my city of promise. The brussels were sweet and crispy. It was the best food I got, from a market that sells premade food. So good in fact that I would describe it as restaurant quality, with the restaurant being a decent place worth praise. It is weird to imagine that I had a nice sit down lunch in an industrial garden that was made possible by the space and fare of a supermarket. But when you remember that this place is in the lux blocks of LA's Art District the surprise becomes a bit for understanding, and frankly, familiar. read more

We visited the store after eating dinner nearby as we have many times before. I was with my wife and 4-year-old daughter and another family, two parents and their 4-year-old son. As we shopped around the store, we noticed the security guard constantly eyeing us all and watching us everywhere we went. We didn't end up buying anything, our friends bought an item or two. As we were exiting, the security guard asked to check a plastic bag I was carrying. Then asked to also check my backpack. Then asked to check our friends' bags as well. We felt a bit targeted and embarrassed. We're not sure why other people weren't stopped as they exited. And to go through ALL our bags even when he was constantly watching us. You would think two families with children wouldn't need to be watched or even considered as potential criminals but... There we were. May 2023 / Downtown LA: After attending an Art Opening on the same block, Hank's Organic caught my eye! My friend & I stopped by to see what it was all about! Several recognizable health food brands, as well as plenty we had never heard of! The fun packaging, fresh fruit and vegetables, a deli and just plenty to see, we enjoyed walking around the store! Customer Service: When we were grabbing a few items to take to the counter, we noticed that they had been closing! However, not once did they rush us or even tell us that they were in the process of closing, so sweet! Thanks again for being so kind! Overall: Hank's Organic has a variety of great products, and customer service is really sweet! I also enjoyed the kombucha drinks, as well as the ceremonial Matcha tea! Since then, Miguel has approached me asking me to take down my review instead of taking accountability. Most recently, he wore Meta Ray-Bans with cameras during the conversation -- extremely invasive and unprofessional. Today was the first time I returned since my traumatic experience to make a purchase and immediately Miguel D. approached me and asked if I would speak with him and almost tried to pull me aside from the line where I continue to check out and left. He cares more about these reviews than actually his customers, so I felt that it was appropriate that I write another review and my last one because I will never be returning. Recently I went into Hank's to buy a drink, I quickly noticed the security guard was watching me and following me through the aisles. After I paid for my drink the security guard approached me to check the bag I came in with. Then the manager Miguel pointed to pictures of alleged shoplifters saying a lot of people steal but to me it felt like he pointed to the pictures if I look like them. Amazing gem with so many delicious and healthy options, it's like a mini Whole Foods but better!

I had a wonderful experience at Hank's organic. The staff were helpful and nice. The food was delicious and everything was made with the best ingredients. The prices were a little high, but that's to be expected when you're paying for better quality food and ingredients. My wife and I visited Hank's for the first time on a Thursday October 10th and we were blessed enough to come on the promotional day in which their fresh pressed juice was buy one-get one free. The juices were all delicious and definitely hit the spot. I got the Papaya, Orange and Pineapple and my wife got the Soursop juice. We also got 2 additional juices of our choosing for free. When we walked in we were greeted by wonderful smells and the ambiance in general was welcoming and friendly. I appreciate the hospitality and customer service as well as the top notch ingredients. We also liked the fact that everything we looked at as far as their fresh hot and cold food was not made using canola, vegetable or other harmful oils. We also enjoyed the salmon and kale meal I forget what else was in it but it was truly delightful. I've been to other health food types of places and the vibe wasn't welcoming and the food wasn't as good ingredients wise. Upon checking out there was a little mix up and we almost didn't get our 2 free juices but the staff and personnel cleared it up very quickly and allowed us to proceed back into the juice section to get our 2 free juices. I would definitely recommend this place over certain places that I am not going to name because I rather say nothing at all than to say something that isn't nice. So instead of shunning a negative light on those other places I will simply say that I enjoyed my trip to Hank'a Organic and will definitely return soon with my wife and son. I've been a customer at Hank's Organic since they first opened, even during their early days when business was slow. I've spent an exorbitant amount at the store, despite the higher prices and occasional issues with product quality, including moldy items. I was also a regular at the previous grocery store, Urban Radish, and I've lived in this neighborhood for over a decade. However, the exchange I had with an employee yesterday left me feeling extremely disappointed. During my visit, I was there with my wife and toddler. We spent about $60 on groceries, and I realized I had forgotten to grab sweet potatoes, so I went back to the counter to purchase them. In the midst of managing our toddler, we accidentally missed a small bag of cheese in the stroller's carriage, as well as a spice jar. As we were trying to place our toddler in the stroller, an employee approached my wife, rummaged through our stroller, and pointed out the two unpaid items. While this was unexpected, I went to the counter to pay for the items and apologized, explaining it was an honest oversight. What followed was shocking: the employee warned me to "be careful" because I might end up on their "thief wall," which I had previously noticed displayed photos of people who had allegedly stolen from the store. After all our patronage, I was absolutely stunned to be treated this way--especially since we hadn't left the store & were more than willing to pay. No customer, especially one who has supported a business, should ever be treated this way. I've tolerated product issues and high prices out of loyalty, but being accused of theft over an honest mistake is where I draw the line. Suffice it to say, I will not be returning, and I urge others to consider how they value their customers. read more

I used to shop at Hank's Organic and befriended some of the former staff members but I stopped shopping after most of them told me about the abuse and racist remarks that they would witness and would have to endure from the male supervisors. That's not all though, according to many former employees they don't receive their tips which is VERY much illegal, and would get reprimanded by the male supervisors if they dared ask for their tips. I would suggest you stop tipping if you decide to still shop at this store, or better yet just shop at other stores that know how to rightfully treat and respect their employees. read more

A convenient organic grocery store in Arts District. The food and produce here is great. They have everything from produce, ready to eat food to great selection of beers and wine. My favorite item they have is the house made guacamole, it's perfect and seasoned so well. Everyone working here is friendly. After a few bad experiences at Erewhon I recently, I decided to check out Hank's Organic. Hank's produce is beautiful, organic, and WAY cheaper than Erewhon or even Whole Foods. They also stock a good selection of teas, beverages, fruit salads, and they have a pretty nice deli. The cashier was incredibly nice and helpful. Also, it is worth noting you only have to give them a phone number to sign up for their membership program (unlike creepy biometric obsessed Erewhon). Upon signing up for Hank's rewards membership I was even offered a complimentary organic juice or coffee. This is an amazing little grocery store and I am very happy to have it nearby! read more

First the bad ... when you order food to eat on their patio, they will not give you a cup of water. The most basic act of hospitality is to give a person water, but Hank's Organic cannot bring themselves to do even that. Makes you wonder where their heart is. The great ... until 6pm they grill food on their patio, and the man who operates that grill cooks the best hamburger in the Arts District. His excellent hamburger is the only reason I put up with Hank's Organic lack of hospitality when it comes to serving water. By the way, they'll give you a cup if you want to pour yourself a glass of water in the bathroom. Think that over for a bit and ponder the mindset of this store. The pretty good ... As far as groceries go, Hank's is pretty good. Above average for a smallish, urban, non-chain grocery store. Now how about serving patrons a glass of water when they buy food to eat on the patio?
