Visiting Oaks Steakhiuse from out of state, we had such a wonderful experience from start to finish. I called ahead and spoke with Todd, who was incredibly kind and accommodating for our party of five. When we arrived, Todd greeted us and seated us right away. He truly radiates light and joy, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Alison, was an absolute gem--attentive, personable, and on top of everything. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeye, New York steak, and filet mignon, all cooked to perfection. The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I had asked for my daughter's meal to come out as soon as possible, and they made it happen without hesitation, which we really appreciated. Located in North Old Town. They offer free parking nearby. We had no problem finding street parking across the street. Fun, quiet atmosphere that definitely said "steakhouse!" Lots of wood and dark colors. Great service from Shawn. We tried the Ribeye and NY Strip. Both were ok. Not much seasoning. Lots of marbling. Both had significant sections of fat. For me, wasn't the best cut for either. Both were ok steaks. We had the fries and cream corn. The fries are made with a beef fat. Tasty. The cream corn has a lot of cheese on top and throughout (see pic). That wasn't a favorite for me. Was more like a mac and cheese. Pricing was for a Ruth Chris experience but fell flat on delivery. As an example, went to The Wharf a few days later and had their NY strip, with crab cake, and sides all for the same price. After starting...saving...revising...and saving again...I think I'm finally ready to complete this review which has been in draft for a while. For decades, the most notable landmark in this section of Alexandria was the Potomac River Generating Station. However, over the past 5-10 years, this section of Alexandria has been re-branded as "Old Town North." Since it's 2005 founding in Charleston, SC, Oak Steakhouse has steadily expanding its national footprint with the Old Town location representing it's more Northern location. Oak definitely leans into the steakhouse ethos with a darker color palette, hardwoods, and dim lighting (at least in the evenings). There are many floor to ceiling windows, which I assume provide ample natural lighting during the lunch hours. The place was buzzing on a Friday evening, but we were luckily able to snag a coveted window table. Server arrived within a few minutes, greeted us in a friendly manner, and described the specials of the evening. We enjoyed a Port City Optimal Wit (since it's a local Alexandria brewery) and a glass of sauvignon blanc. Both were fine; served chilled as expected. We skipped appetizers and for the mains, we shared the steak frites and seared sea scallops. Slices of so-called "butcher's steak" were cooked to an appropriate medium-rare doness. Steak was good; not tough...the side of au poivre sauce was good for adding much needed additional seasoning and saltiness. Housemade fries were cooked in beef-fat and stayed crispy, even after 20-25 minutes. Scallops were just okay. The mollusks were cooked to temperature and given a quick sear on one side, so they wouldn't be mushy or rubbery in texture. They were served with fennel gonocchi, carrots, beet chips, avocado mousse, and finished off with a sherry-rum sauce. My main observation again, was the dish was underseasoned. The scallops were fine, but the sauce was too sweet and the entire dish just needed some finishing salt sprinkled on top. Our server popped by a few times to check-in, and ensured water glasses were filled. Many of my reviews will reference the monetary value during in today's economic climate, and this will be a factor here also. Here's the thing, I'm well aware that if I decide to dine out, I expect to spend money...especially at a steak house. On its Yelp page, Oak Steakhouse is marked with "$$$$," so we knew the price point before walking in. For me (as well as my dining companion), we didn't feel the overall experience at Oak was anything "special" - and I concede that everyone defines that word differently. We certainly observed the large groups gathered, as well as the smaller parties enjoying themselves throughout the night. While there might not be many options for steak houses in Old Town, I feel there are other and frankly, BETTER choices for your dining dollar. Food was subpar - scallops were overdone --- drink was a 3 sip martini -- service was not good -- bartender had a chip on his shoulder -- and somewhat rude and not friendly or helpful at all -- 2/10 -- save your money -- $183 dollars could have spent at a better steak house with much better service and friendlier bartender . Five out of five! Everything was delicious. My Bestie took me for a vacation in old town Alexandria and I had the best time doing all the things, but this is definitely one of the highlights that I will be returning to. The steak was perfectly cooked, the seafood tower was perfectly chilled, and the sides were very large and great for sharing. Absolutely fantastic restaurant. We don't frequent steakhouses, but when we feel like indulging, a good steakhouse can always deliver. This place has great atmosphere, service, and the beef is tasty!! 6 oz filet with sauce Béarnaise, cooked rare, melts in your mouth. The outside is seared and crispy, the inside was a gorgeous red, and so soft and buttery. It was so satisfying and ultra-decadent when dipped in the sauce. The 6oz portion was just the perfect amount so by the time you finished your meal you didn't feel like you needed a wheel barrow to haul you out. Started with some home-baked Parker House rolls. They come out 4 in a tray, pull apart piping hot, nice salty butter. Felt so good on a cold night. The Sides: mushrooms, perfectly soft, savory and simple. The show stopper were the Brussel sprouts. Excellent presentation of appetizers and salads. The beef belly was delicious and the stone fruit salad was well-dressed- not too heavy. The petit filet - highly recommend getting it rare but my friend and I were splitting it, so had to get medium rare. The scallops were tasty but placed so far apart on the plate that the whole dish was rather cold quickly. Our server was wearing far too much cologne and it was distracting, but otherwise the experience was very nice and we'll be back to try the other dishes. The burger looked amazing as it passed us by to another table. One of my oysters was not good at all but that happens sometimes... it's a cozy place but somewhat drafty depending on where you're sat. The place gets pretty crowded on a Saturday night. The service was very good but our waitress failed to inform us that the tip is already included. This caused some confusion in the end. One of my friends and I ended up here because the Sheraton where she is staying recommended this place and had given her information through the hotel that you would receive a discount for dining here. It literally is right across the street. For reference to this review, I don't need a discount. But when it's 730 o'clock at night after a long day of travel from the west coast and you're figuring out where to eat and there's an advertisement for a free appetizers and a discount right across the street from your friend's hotel, it's enticing. The waiter was wonderful. He was really sweet, attentive, and kept filling up my water. When it came to the free appetizer and discount, he had to go get his manager to inquire about the discount and the free appetizer since he'd never the advertisement before. The manager, Todd came over to talk to us and his customer service was poor and down right unprofessional and offensive. He was aggressive, abrasive, and blatantly came across with an attitude that he did not believe us. He stated that he did not want people coming in for free appetizers, or if they needed a discount he could not do that bc that would open the floodgates to discounts and that even though he was prior military he doesn't even offer military a discount. He said based on the well priced menu, if you couldn't pay it, there are other places to go. Oddly, in that same convo Todd did mention, that for first time guests, they do provide a free appetizer. Todd then came back a second time and wanted to look at the advertisement and where we found it. We let him know that it was provided by the hotel, and that it was a QR code the hotel has given their guests in their rooms. He asked to take a picture of it along with a picture of the list of the other restaurants listed by the hotel that give discounts. He then came back a third time and told us that he spoken to the Sheraton sales department (which is strange because I've never heard of a sales department being open at 8 PM at night) and that the Sheraton sales department manager told him it was quite possible we were being scammed. He again asked where we found the discount and we told them that it was in the hotel room in the Sheraton, where they had provided the QR code. He did again say that first time guests dining at this facility would receive something for free. It was a very strange, awkward and uncomfortable interaction. They did comp us a free appetizer which was yummy (the hummus), my friend bought a burger, which she said was great, and I got the steak frites which were meh (I have just come back from Paris so my pallet might be a little biased having Parisian steak frites multiple times in the last week). The last time Todd came at the end of the meal, he said we could return for happy hour if we wanted to dine at more affordable prices. Which is down right rude and offensive. I regularly go out to eat. In the last three weeks I've dined in multiple restaurants in London, Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, and Newport Beach. At all those locations, customer service was impeccable. And even if I hadn't it dined in all those places, no manager or restaurant owner should ever make the assumption that someone cannot afford a meal at their restaurant. Or dismiss them bc they were provided an advertisement discount. I wouldn't think twice when a hotel gives you recommendations or discounts to restaurants because plenty of hotels do that. For the quality of the food, I've had better. Again, the waiter he was phenomenal. The manager, however, he is enough reason to never go to this restaurant ever again. The interior décor was typical of a steakhouse--classy and well designed. There were tables near the kitchen where you could observe the cooks at work. On the other side, there were rooms with a simpler dining atmosphere. The steak selection was limited compared to other locations. I wish they had dry-aged steak, but they did not offer any. Overall, the steaks were well seasoned and met the standard of a steakhouse. If you ask whether there is a must-order special, I would suggest choosing what you normally order. The drinks were good. Portions were average, and side dishes needed to be ordered separately. It is not the most expensive place, but you will still need to spend more to dine here. This was one of the worst dinners I have ever had, and I am 74 years old. I ordered a 16-ounce ribeye. What arrived could not have been more than 12 ounces. It was overcooked, full of gristle, and completely lacking in flavor. For a steakhouse, this was unacceptable. The side dishes were served family style, which made no sense for a restaurant at this price point. They were sloppy to serve, poorly presented, and frankly awful. None of them had any flavor. Family-style sides belong in casual restaurants, not in an expensive steakhouse. We paid eight dollars for four rolls. They were bland and doughy, and not worth the price. The shrimp cocktail appetizer had no flavor at all and tasted like it had been frozen, thawed, and left sitting out. The oysters Rockefeller were drowned in a heavy cream sauce to the point where you could not taste the oyster at all. Another issue was the staff's canned sales approach. The dining manager told us that nearly everything we were considering was his "favorite" and that we would "love it." When our server came over, he said the exact same thing. Even the hostess repeated similar comments. It felt scripted and clearly aimed at pushing the most expensive items on the menu rather than offering honest recommendations. The restroom experience was also unpleasant. There was a strange odor coming from a mix of urine and heavily scented candles, including pineapple and evergreen scents, which only made the smell worse instead of masking it. To make matters worse, we were seated in a small booth right next to the kitchen. Before we were finished eating, staff began spraying cleaning chemicals and bleach nearby. The smell was overpowering and nearly made us gag, which only added to an already terrible meal. The total bill for two people was $223 including tip. We had no alcoholic beverages. The cost was ridiculous for the quality of food and the overall experience. This meal was expensive, poorly executed, and absolutely not worth it in any way. The reason for the 2 stars is because of the price, I almost felt robbed. My family and I were not expecting the price. This place will fool you with the prices. Our bill was over 2500 dollars. I was so embarrassed that I chose this place for my birthday. I would have got more pictures of every dish so I could better share what you're getting if you decide to have a party of 6 for your birthday. The food was okay. Everything was just okay. I ended up taking my steak home because it was way too rare for me. I've been to just about every steakhouse in the DMV. Talking with other foodies, someone asked if I had made my way to Oak Steakhouse. Oak Steakhouse, sounds sexy so why haven't I been? I looked at the reviews and well, surely I had to come. Let's talk service! I walk in a few minutes late for my 7:00 o'clock reservation and no issues, the host was accommodating and sat us down. Not even moments later, we are approached by this super happy and energetic person, he greets us, welcomes us, and tells us about the extensive wine list. He goes into detail! A great intro from inception, I'm hooked like a good novel! Todd, he introduced himself as the General Manager and just like that I'm home. I feel welcome. I feel important. Todd was warm and inviting. I love it here. Here comes our waiter, Michael. He's just as nice, we order and he comes back moments later with my wine! Like any fine dining establishment, he pours just a little. He's not a sommelier but he knows his craft well. The aromatic experience is a part of the enjoyment of getting a glass of wine. He stands there waiting for me to approve. I swirl the glass a few times to aerate the wine and release its aromas. I bring the glass to my nose, and concentrate on the wine's fragrance, it's Todd's pick and it's Divine! The smell is perfection, the legs were just beautiful! The taste was everything promised! This was our annual friends Christmas dinner and it went well. The setting was great inside this elegant steak restaurant, our server Ricardo was very friendly and informative. There was a male manager active on the floor the whole evening and he even helped out, he stepped in and got our drinks from the bar for us and checked in to make sure we were being taken care of. It's quiet, and comfy and there isn't so much going on that you can't enjoy a peaceful conversation over dinner for two (or a small group). First time here and we arrived at 4:30PM on Saturday. We were thrilled they had the doors open to greet and to let us know where to go until they are ready at 5PM. Even though my reservation was not until 5:15 they still seated us. Our server was very nice and recommended the burger which my mom got and I got the steak frites. To me the menu is limited and not too appeasing but just enough for steak house. Food was a cool 6/10....I don't think it was memorable enough where it would stick out in mind. The oyester Rockefeller was $5 each which was great because I only wanted 3. The oyster Rockefeller was a nice 5/10, broccolini 5/10, steak frites 5/10, French fries 7/10, wagyu burger 6/10. Love the ambiance and that it wasn't crowed. The kitchen seemed a little backed up as our food took some time and our waiter did a little disappearing act multiple times. Incredibly overpriced for an average steakhouse with extremely small portions. The sea scallops were four quarter-sized scallops that would barely be considered an appetizer. The service was friendly and efficient but the ambiance and food left much to be desired. Skip the pretentiousness. read more

I visited Oak Steakhouse last month for my birthday and it was fantastic. The ambiance was pleasant and they have a free parking garage directly under the building for ease and convenience (have we found a unicorn in old town?). The service was awesome, drinks were done very well and I loved my food. I got the NY Strip with truffle butter, and our table shared the mac&cheese and broccolini. My steak was melting in my mouth and the combination of truffle butter and Mac and cheese was creating a flavor explosion. We finished with the chocolate cake and it was divine. The cake was so large that three of us ate off it and we still had two servings to take home. Based on my meal alone, this would be a 5-star review. I take one point off for consistency. My mother did not enjoy her steak. We had the exact same cut and temp (medium), but when I tasted hers, it was not the same caliber. Her steak was not well seasoned, and it was quite tough. It's possible the difference was the truffle butter, but a steak should melt in your mouth and stand on its own. One note-- she didn't want to provide that real-time feedback to allow for correction, so I'm unsure what was up with my mom's plate. My friend did enjoy her filet. I would go back and order the exact same combination, but if my only impression had been my mom's steak, I would have said that the sides and dessert were the stars of the show. read more

My partner and I made reservations at Oak to celebrate our 10th anniversary. In the reservation note I put that in; we were going on a Friday at 730pm. Got there at 7 and checked in but found seats at the bar for a cocktail. For our dinner we moved to a table - it was a 4 top that they took the additional settings away. There were plenty of 2 top tables around, so I'm not sure why we were sat there but our waiter was great. We each had a filet; I added the red wine jus and my partner had the blue cheese crust and the horseradish. For our sides we got the Mac and cheese and Brussels. We also got the rolls. I like it pink but I got medium - it was more of a medium rare (which was fine). My partner prefers some pink so he got medium well - it was more medium. We were happy so keep this in mind when ordering. The food was delicious - our steaks were tender and the sides were delicious. Our waiter also had wished us happy anniversary and then they brought out a complimentary dessert and Prosecco for each of us! That was a very nice touch. After we paid we were given the small cakes to have the next morning. I will definitely be back to Oak. The reason I removed one star is because of the price. The 6oz filet was about $47 without sides; each side was $12. Other restaurants include sides with their filets for a similar price point of around $40. So, that is the only reason I removed a Star. The food was excellent and the waiter was great, plus all the extras for our anniversary made for a very nice evening. read more

I took my good friend here to celebrate his birthday. We were so excited to try the bread and Brussels sprouts since they were favorites in lots of the reviews I've read..let's see :) We made a reservation for a Wednesday evening. He ordered the bread immediately (pressed! LOL) and it was yummmmmy! So buttery good but I didn't care for the stuff on the top (garlic, sesame seeds and other seasonings). It was fresh and hot of the oven. Check. We ordered a Caesar salad, Brussels sprouts and mac and cheese to share. All were pretty tasty for the exception of M&C. Definitely not our fave but I am sure it's tasty to some. I ordered the petite filet and he ordered the NY strip. Both were cooked to perfection and were pretty flavorful. They brought dessert for his bday that was super yummy - I HAD to taste it! LoL Overall, the service was outstanding and has a nice and cozy atmosphere. I went recently with a group of 5-6 people. Greeted promptly upon sitting down, the service throughout the night was great. We all had steaks but one who had seafood dish and all the feedback was excellent. The Brussel sprouts were a fave at the table but we all sampled different sides and there wasn't a crumb left. We ordered a couple desserts for the table cause we were all stuffed from dinner but glad we did, great desserts. Todd, the mgr, stopped by to ask about meal, if the service had been good, if there was anything we needed, etc which I thought was a nice touch. I saw him going table to table so Oak Steakhouse and Todd take pride in their restaurant. Highly recommend when in Old Town Alexandria. read more

I have been a fan of Oak Steakhouse since they first opened years ago in Charleston, SC. We are lucky to have the one here in Alexandria, VA. All the food is outstanding, wether a special occassion perfectly cooked prime steak or a casual burger and fries at the bar you will not be disappointed. What truly sets Oak apart from other restaurants in the area is the service. During a session of "who loves food" with my colleagues, I mentioned my love of a good steak prompting the most seasoned foodie (a partner) to recommend Oak. Not one to back down from a trusted recommendation, I booked a spot for my monthly bougie dinner club crew. I was delighted from the moment I pulled up! In a modern Alexandria neighborhood, an Oak attendant walked me through a fireplace, dark wood sit down to our reservation. Our waiter greeted the two us immediately with a joke about a chocolate covered fish special, a charming way to note he read the notes I'd left. We graciously let him do the same joke once the others arrived making it that much better. As for the food, imagine a succulent prime cut 12 ounce New York strip with truffle butter trickling down the side. Or, if your imagination is overloaded by this image in your head, look at the attached steak picture! My crew felt excited about the sides and decided to just get them all to share, with me eyeing the Gouda Mac and Cheese. If my coworker recommended Oak just for the atmosphere and service, that would have been enough. But the food really did deliver on the quality I'd expect from that coworker! We went to dinner at Oak last week for a couples date night. The ambiance was very intimate and classic. Me and my husband ordered the special ribeye that was 32 oz I believe, we shared. We shared a caesar salad, had the bread service and for our side was the mushrooms. Everything was fantastic! Our server was attentive and their red wine blend was delicious. We had a great dinner and whenever we are back in town we will definitely go back! They are a bit pricey, but worth the splurge for a special occasion. read more

Very nice establishment, professional setting with high class service. Delicious, well cooked steak. Sides were also delicious. Don't forget dessert! Large portioned dessert, not that wimpy, small, decadent dessert some steakhouses like to serve. Overall, great experience.
