came in on a weekend for dinner and was seated immediately! recommended by my roommate who's been meaning to try this place and we're glad we did! the portion for 2 was more than enough for us!

Came here for their HANMARU GAMJATANG and Stir-Fried Jokbal. I tried hamjatang for the first name, it's good. But nothing outstanding. There are 4 big pork bones for medium size. The meat is not too flavorful. But their dipping sauce is very good. Their Stir-Fried Jokbal is amazing. It's my favorite jokbal dish. The jokbal is tender and flavorful. Panchan is pretty good and I like their potato salad a lot. There's a lot of meat in this meal. We (2 persons) cannot finish everything. People next to our tables all pack the leftovers. I'll definitely come back here again for their Stir-Fried Jokbal and something else. We came on Friday night and there's no wait. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is not loud. There're spaces between tables and it's good for conversations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Another Korean restaurant on Harvard Ave known for their gamjatang soups. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small restaurant, so I would go here with a large group of people, but I'd definitely recommend coming with a friend or two to try out all the dishes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My most recent visit we got the gamjatang, jokbol, bibimbap, and seafood pancake. The soup broth is very flavorful and the meat falls off the bones. The seafood pancake was crispy. We had leftovers of jokbol with all the food that we ordered. The service was good and I would recommend trying this place out if you're looking for a warm cooked Korean meal.

First time trying "gamjatang" will definitely try it again but next time it will be spicy version! Waitress was very attentive as well on managing the soup by flipping over pork bones [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere was really nice aswell, felt like I was in a kdrama a moment lol[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I'm not sure why this place has a 3.7-star rating; I personally thought it deserved a solid 8.5/10. The owner was the only one hosting and taking everyone's orders, and he did an amazing job. He was very attentive to our table, making sure we had everything we needed. We were a party of three and ordered the Hanmaru Signature Gamjatang Large. Flavor-wise, it was quite light yet hearty, and there was more than plenty for the three of us. We also tried the pig's feet, which, in my opinion, had a better flavor than the soup. We didn't realize they closed at 9 until we checked our phones and the owner wasn't in a rush in kicking us out. I would definitely recommend this place to others and would go again!

Decent Korean food place, nothing mind blowing but good. They mainly specialize in gamja-tang, bossoms, and pork feet dishes. We only tried their gamja-tang and it was good, the pork was very tender. The medium size it pretty big and can definitely be shared by 2-3 people. The spicy squid was okay, and the galbi was good. The service was just alright, nothing impressive and when I asked the server if there's shrimp powder used in the seasoning of the soup.. because a lot of Korean dishes use shrimp powder regardless of it being a meat dish (used in the spicy seasoning ex: kimchi) he didn't bother to check with the kitchen/and was a little rude about it. But I was just checking since I have an allergy [[HIGHLIGHT]]A good amount of seating at the restaurant, reservations are available if you want to be safe but it didn't seem like you needed to make any if you have a smaller group.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you like any of their specialty items they offer, I would say check it out!

On a Wednesday evening, a group of 6 (including myself), went to Hanmaru for dinner. Since we had a reservation at 715, we received seating immediately. The entire table ended up ordering family style, getting corn cheese ($12), a seafood pancake ($14), the Hanmaru Signature Gamtajang ($43, large size), tofu kimchi ($17), and a dolsot bimbimbap (which I didn't get to try). The table received rice and banchan w/in 5 minutes, and plates streamed in over the next 10 minutes. The corn cheese tastes exactly as one would expect. Arriving on a hot plate proved a nice touch. It did seem overpriced, however. The seafood pancake seemed lackluster. It did not have much seafood, tasting more like a too-lightly salted scallion pancake. Also, its form factor, precut squares, gave the illusion of small portion size. Perhaps an optical illusion, but it proved visually unsatisfying. The Gamjatang, a pork neck bone stew and Hanmaru's signature dish, arrived on a large sukiyaki-like bowl placed in the center of the table, which had a burner to keep the stew hot. The stack of vegetables and spices could not effectively hide that the stew only had 6 pieces of pork neck bone. The soup itself, while flavorful, seemed low in volume. I would have much liked having double that amount to get some decent bowls of stew in. The tofu kimchi proved delicious and savory. It's essentially a spicy pork, kimchi, and rice cake stir fry topped with tofu.

It's been too long since I've come here but sadly it wasn't like how I remembered it to be. Overall, the meal was still yummy but a few ingredients were skimped out this time. The pot no longer includes tofu and the potatos are sliced thinner (I know I sound super picky) but I feel like those changes impacted the experience. The broth got weirdly thick after like 20min since the potatoes almost disintegrated into the soup. And I'm just sad that they no longer include tofu :( it's still available as an add on. This is a one of a kind spot for Boston so I still recommend it if you're craving a bowl of hot soup!

This is the only place in Boston I've had gamjatang and I LOVEE IT. It's not too big of a place but I never had to wait. The service is great; we get plenty of side dishes as well and refills too. Their signature gamjatang is my go-to. The broth is flavorful! Definitely a place to go if you wanna have a family style meal.

I have wanted to go to this local spot in Allston to try the jokbal(pig feets) for the first time. It feels very homey inside like your moms about to cook for you with a small menu of classic korean comfort foods. They have apps, meat and even hot pot on the menu. I really enjoyed the jokbal which reminded me of the texture of pork belly and was very flavorful. We got the spicy version but it honestly was like a 1-2 spiciness. Galbi was rich in flavor as well, just a little bit of a tug or war in regards to the chewiness. Our waiter was helpful with letting us know about the jokbal options and re-checking what my friend could have because she had a seafood allergy. They also listed on the menu allergies icons for seafood, pork, beef, etc which was nice. Korean food is always a little pricey but I always forget about that as our bill was almost $70 for two entrees that don't come with rice. But, you can ask for it free of charge. Good portions and good taste would go here on a monday night for a relaxing dinner. Food Jokbal bokum LA Galbi Prices $$ Food 7 Atmosphere 5 Service 8

Came by with a friend around 1pm on a Saturday - the place is not that big and was pretty busy but thankfully there was a table open for us! Ordering was also smooth as well - there's an option to order and pay online directly via the menu link, but they can also take your order in person too. We ordered the yuk gae jang, corn cheese, dolsot bibimbap, and stir-fried spicy pork. Yuk gae jang was not bad! Shredded beef was super tasty but the broth was a bit too oily, and I personally would have preferred some more noodles for the portion size. Corn cheese was a bit flat - it tasted much like a bowl of creamed corn with some melted mozzarella on top; not bad in an absolute sense, but not really what I expected from corn cheese. Stir-fried spicy pork was fantastic - pork was tender, veggies were well-cooked, and portion size was great. And, it was nice that everything was really spicy (as we wanted!). Lastly the bibimbap was pretty good too - beef had a good juicy flavour and the fresh veggies, gochujang, and egg paired really nicely with the large portion of rice for a very filling bowl overall. Price point was not the lowest, but the portion sizes were very large (e.g. if we had come with a few more people it would definitely have been very worth it to share amongst more people). They seem to specialise in the gamjatang which we didn't get this time, but I'd love to try it out on my next visit. Looking forward to it!

This is definitely a gem in the neighborhood! Feels like having home cooked meal at Hanmaru. Decent price, good portion, flavorful food and friendly staff. What more can you ask for?! The kalbi is a must order. The hotpot was great especially on a cold rainy day. Jap Chae with seafood is another option if you're not into rice. This is not a fancy restaurant but it's clean and cozy. Will come back for sure!

I absolutely LOVE this place! You must come here. It is located in Allston-Brighton near the CVS. They work like machines in the back truly! It's quite incredible. A very small holes in the wall place with BIG flavors! They're super attentive Korean place that consistently stays busy! It's a must! I got the personal bowl that includes rice, bone, potatoe and tofu! I added veggies and it comes with sides of rice, macaroni, kimchi and so much more!

We found KChickin nearby on Peterborough Street and they're open until 9:30pm. We walked quickly over as hunger is a good motivator to walk fast. The restaurant has takeout but offered enough space to hold three famished Fenway newbies. Service was quickly and friendly and the food was served fairly quickly. Seems like most restaurants begin at the suggested 18% tip to start. Some calculate their tipping suggestions at your subtotal before adding the taxes to your bill. This restaurant included the taxes as part of its tip calculation so be aware that you're actually tipping more than 18%. FYI: as a customer, you decide how much to tip for quality service. Bringing your orders to your table is basic. How many times they filled your water cups and check up on you are important and expected. Tipping is not automatic in my humble opinion. We walked into a…read morespace that buzzes even on weeknight evenings, with a menu spanning Korean fried chicken, sushi, hand rolls, and Japanese comfort food. That combination sounds like it could go sideways, but the kitchen handles the range with enough confidence that the whole thing works. The fried chicken is the anchor of the menu and the reason most people come back. We ordered the soy garlic wings, the most talked about item, and they justified the reputation. They came out freshly fried with a glaze that coated evenly and a crunch that held. The chili basil version is worth ordering alongside if you want some heat, and the classic crispy is the right call for anyone who wants to taste the chicken itself without much interference. The calamari is a strong starter, well fried and light enough that it did not weigh down the rest of the meal before it got going. On the Japanese side of the menu, the kaisen don stood out. The presentation was careful and the fish was fresh in a way that made it feel like a dish the kitchen takes seriously rather than an afterthought. The hand rolls are solid and satisfying, though they lean more reliable than revelatory, making them a good addition to a larger spread rather than the sole reason to visit. For a spot covering this much ground, the consistency impressed us most. People drive over an hour to eat here, and that says something. It earns the trip. We would come back for the soy garlic wings and a bowl of kimchi tofu soup, and we would bring friends who want both Korean fried chicken and fresh sushi under one roof.

We walked into a relaxed and welcoming space with a dining room that feels approachable and practical, the kind of neighborhood restaurant that works equally well for a casual lunch or dinner. The menu is large enough that there is something for almost everyone, whether you are looking for a hearty soup, a sizzling rice dish, or something to share with a group, and the steady flow of customers reflects its popularity as a local staple. One of the biggest strengths of the restaurant is its variety. The menu includes favorites like bibimbap, sundubu, japchae, and bulgogi alongside Korean Chinese dishes such as jajangmyeon, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk. We ordered the cream jjamppong, one of the more unique options, and found the combination of a rich, creamy broth with a spicy kick made for a satisfying bowl that stood out from the more traditional offerings. The soondubu delivered plenty of heat for anyone looking for something comforting, with a silky texture and a depth of flavor that came through clearly. The dolsot bibimbap is another solid choice, served in a hot stone bowl that creates the crispy rice layer at the bottom, and the mix of vegetables and gochujang came together well against the sizzling heat. If you are visiting with a group, there are plenty of shareable dishes worth ordering. The kimchi scallion pancake was crispy and generously portioned, with a savory, slightly tangy flavor that paired well with the dipping sauce, while the tangsuyuk and sweet and spicy fried chicken are good additions to the table. The restaurant also serves complimentary banchan, which helps round out the meal and adds a variety of flavors before the main dishes arrive. The portions are noticeably generous, especially for the price, making it a good value compared to many other Korean restaurants in the area. Service is friendly and attentive even when the restaurant is busy, and the staff are helpful with recommendations or accommodating requests such as adjusting spice levels. During peak dinner hours, the restaurant can get crowded, so there may be a short wait, particularly on weekends. Bab Korean Bistro is a dependable spot for Korean comfort food with generous portions, a wide-ranging menu, and solid value. The combination of traditional Korean dishes, Korean Chinese specialties, and welcoming service makes it a place worth returning to, especially when dining with friends so you can order a variety of dishes to share.

We are told that the restaurant owner, Chef Hajime Yamazaki, uses his mother's recipes and the restaurant signature is their samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) which is offered with each set. The sides dishes that accompanied the main was very tasty. I especially enjoyed the zucchini. The scallop was delicious. My husband especially enjoyed the chapjae noodles, claiming it was the best he has ever had. I think its appeal was simple clean ingredients. The jokbal, boiled belly, was very clean tasting as well. I was a bit disappointed with this one item and wished I went with the alternative option on the menu. As for the main chicken ginseng soup, our waiter, served this dish to us while telling us the concept of the restaurant, about the owner and his journey and mother's recipe. The story, about 5 minutes long was enjoyable while she took apart and served us the soup. I wished she didn't shred the entire chicken the way she did, literally to shreds.
