This has got to be one of the best Hannaford's around in this area. It is so well laid out and the produce and vegetable area is fantastic. The people are very friendly and everything seems to work like clockwork as far as getting things done and taken care of. I always feel at home when I shop there, which is kind of unusual for me, because shopping isn't really my favorite pastime. This Hannaford makes it easier to maneuver around. What a for sh*t outfit. They just raised their prices (among other things) on Progress Soups by a full dollar per can. As far as I'm concerned, they are sandbagging less expensive items so shoppers MUST choose an expensive brand for lack of less expensive choices Their most recent sales are for sh*t. I'm going to start shopping other stores, such as Walmart, ShopRite, and the new Aldi that is opening in Hudson. The recent store re-design (which basically just blatantly copied Price Chopper) was completely cosmetic and did nothing to improve the organization of items or make things easier for the customer. All it did was pretty up the entrance. They've moved some stuff around in ways that sometimes makes no sense. Ie; the Mac and cheese is no longer in the pasta aisle. My two biggest problems with this Hannaford are: 1. The price gouging. I think the owners realize the next closest supermarket for us locals is easily 20 minutes away, so they feel they can charge whatever they want. 2. Many items are constantly out of stock. Last time I went in, all the canned cat food was gone and there was no dishwasher detergent. No tabs, no powder, no liquid - nothing. Oh, and if you're looking for sale items you better get there the morning they go on sale, otherwise empty shelves. Poor store management and abnormally high prices - that's what you get at this store. read more

Thanks again for being there, Hannaford. When I stopped in after a day of Uber in Albany, not only did I have to use the restrooms, but I also needed bottled water, and although I couldn't find single-use bottles of the certain bottle type I always look for, when I looked around, I found what I'd generally know I'd find in Poland Spring (Easy-Open top) and I was hooked. Kind of glad that this location has self-checkouts now - something I hadn't seen from this location in the past. It was an easy transaction consisting of only a few Milano cookies and a 6 pack of Poland Spring water, and when you add in adding my phone number for their rewards program, the transaction went quickly and easily. It studdered after I entered the number, but still accepted it after a few seconds. The store was relatively clean, although I found this location to be a bit small. Maybe that's a good thing - Valatie wise. Valatie isn't that big - something that Hannaford likes to enter into (Hannaford likes to enter into not-so-big towns, and this one fits that bill equally). I found the layout of the store to be not so understandable. It's not formatted the same as most Hannafords. Hannafords have two sets of big doors that contain ins and outs, however, this one I found to be more of a One-Way situation with one set being an in and the other being an out. Aisles tended to be cramped in the produce section (I took a quick perusal, though I didn't need to go up these much), but by the time the rest of the store got looked at by me, these aisles were just a hair bigger in spots. I liked that this store was well kept and I didn't have much trouble finding the items I needed, but the signage was a bit of a hassle. This location isn't formatted the same as most others, and trying to find items with signs that have tinier print was nearly impossible to understand, though there was a little grouping to some items in their aisles. This grouping isn't well understood - as I don't come in very often. And lastly, I like Hannaford of Valatie. When my county and another county imposed a ban on plastic bags, finding this store actually still using plastic bags, made shopping oh so much simpler and less expensive and I love it here! I just wish I'd be closer to this store to shop here more often. (Not too sure for how much longer until the ban takes place in Columbia County, but heard there's the possibility of our governor banning plastic bags mid-2020 forcing everybody to buy paper bags that aren't very strong!) read more

This is the best supermarket I have ever been in. They have a great selection of cheeses and deli products, meats and seafoods, and the bakery is fantastic. There is an expanded natural section including bulk foods which are a great deal. They also have prepared foods and sushi that are of decently good quality. Their produce section is always fantastic and carry some unique items. The store is clean and the staff is always friendly. I don't want to move out of this area because I don't want to lose access to this supermarket. read more

I like this Hannaford. Every time I've been here, it has always been well stocked, even after a blizzard! It doesn't seem to get crazy here like it does at other stores. This is our "new favorite" grocery store and we go here rather than our usual places of Price Chopper and Big Y (in Great Barrington). Not only is the place spotlessly clean and well organized, but they have a great selection of produce, cheeses, soups, baked goods and specialty foods. I have never had to wait in a long line, no matter what time of day, and the checkout process was always pleasant. I always use re-useable shopping bags because I hate the idea of using plastic bags, and they have really beautiful looking shopping bags that are very reasonably priced. read more

I am really getting tired of coming directly home from shopping to try to make dinner only to find out my meat I just purchased has reached its expiration by at least a week! This has happened three times now with the organic pre packaged hamburger. I have also brought home gluten free cookie mix that was six months expired! Something needs to be done with quality control! read more

This store is great. Before it opened up, we had a Grand Union in a different plaza, which was utter crap, so this Hannaford was a breath of fresh air. They have great produce, meat, and dairy sections, which are almost always fresh and well-stocked. They also have a generously sized organic section, where I get my soy- and almond milk (can't get them anywhere else). The other day, I found a favorite of mine (soy yogurt) out of stock, and looking like it was being discontinued. I filled out a comment card, and I just got a call today, saying that the item is just back-ordered. Very surprised that I got a personal answer, straight from the assistant store manager. read more

Hannaford used to be my favorite supermarket, although I have several that are closer and more convenient. I especially liked their produce selection and their variety of natural and organic foods. But I stopped in there yesterday when I was in the area, and I was appalled by the number of products on their shelves that had past their expiration dates--products including, but not limited to, canned foods, dairy, and frozen foods. The store seems to be declining. During my visits over the past several months, the bulk goods in their natural-foods section were a mess. The floor was littered with bags and and debris from the bins, and the scoops did not look clean at all. I was so put off that I see no reason to go out of my way to shop there anymore. read more

I have done my weekly grocery shopping at this Hannaford since April 2013. My family really appreciates the Hannaford brand items, especially the deli meat and cheese. Sometimes the produce section can look like a bomb went off. Boxes everywhere, empty shelves, etc. I've asked about this and I'm always met with a response that the delivery truck hasn't arrived yet. How a delivery truck hasn't arrived when it's 10am on a Sunday is beyond me. I would think that would be one of the more busy times for the whole week. The store rarely has fresh pico de gallo, and when you try to make your own pico at home since they don't have any, you'll find they are out of cilantro too. Overall the quality of the items is usually good, however there is definitely an issue in terms of availability. read more

This supermarket is not A-OK exactly. I would still recommend avoiding the frozen strawberries -- and I once bought meat here that had a valid expiration date but was totally spoiled. But I upgraded my review because out of all the area supermarkets, Hannaford has the best customer service. They have gone into the stockroom for 20 minutes to find an item I was looking for, and run to pick up something I forgot while I was at the checkout. It is true I find this store a little boring. Everything is always the same price. They never put anything on sale for cheap just to shake things up a little. Yet, I hate to say this, but when I have had a question I've received better treatment here than at Honest Weight. read more

I purchased $122 in prime rib for Christmas. I wanted to purchase from the competition as it was lest costly but my wife insisted on Hannaford. The prime rib was so tough my Christmas guests couldn't eat it. I returned it all. The store refused to refund my money to my credit card and insisted on refunding to a gift card. What IS it about this place? I love to cook but hate to grocery shop... At least until I moved to Chatham Center. Now I find myself happily looking forward to going grocery shopping and it is because of the store. It might be the size... it's exactly the right size for grocery store, not too overwhelming and mind-boggling, but just right. I never find myself unable to find the things that I'm looking for, and they have a sweet selection of international foods and health foods and gluten-free items. The produce is always top notch, often from local producers. The deli fish and meat counters have a huge variety and exactly whatever I need. Since there is very little Japanese food down in the area of Columbia county where I live, I have found myself recommended towards the sushi there are a number of times and what do you know - it's actually pretty good! I find it easy to get in and out quickly, and the staff is always extremely helpful, welcoming and pleasant. No surly cashiers here like in Albany - no way! I never thought I could write a love letter to a supermarket but there you have it. read more

I used to love this store. Now, not so much. They have filled their shelves with their own store-brand products, replacing the products I know and love -- and the store brands are not cheaper, either. Worst of all, they no longer stock Rock Hill Bakery bread -- the one real reason to shop here, as far as I am concerned. Their pickle selection is pathetic. Even their relish selection is pathetic. And customer service? I would give them a half star. When I went to the counter to say how sad I was that they were not stocking the Rock Hill Bakery bread, the woman behind the counter said, "We have that!" I said, "Not according to the people in your bakery department." "Oh, said the customer service rep. And she did not register or write down my complaint. Done. I'm going to price chopper. read more
