I was in desperate need for a mani/pedi and my usual place was closed for vacation. I liked the fact that I could make an online reservation. It was a super cute salon. Seemed like a lot of regulars in there. My pedicure girl was very thorough and quick. I was very pleased. My nails not as much. The edges weren't very smooth but nothing I couldn't fix at home so I wasn't upset. There was a chip by day 2, but that would happen for a variety of reasons. Not blaming the salon by any means. I was happy to be able to help but was also charged regular full price (should have been free!). Just a terrible experience to be used as a model for someone beginning to do nails. The salon is small which is nice. I would suggest the blue light dryers be cleaned more often as mine was oily and dirty. The staff was nice enough, but the price was too high. I came to this nail place for a little treat while I was in Monterey for a couple of days back in Aug/Sept. I called pretty last minute but was able to get an appointment for a mani/pedi right away. I also had my dog with me, so they offered water for my dog as soon as I got there. I forgot the name of the women who helped me, but it ended up being the owner, and the owner's sister, who comes to visit/help her out every week or so. Both the owner/her sister were SO friendly, they were able to give me tips on where to go in Monterey and places to check out that were dog friendly. It was such a pleasant experience, and I'm so glad I stopped in. I've never had a nicer experience at a nail salon. Check it out if you're in need of a mani/pedi! Just ok. I was a little disappointed with the lack of response from the nail technicians. Was willing to add on to services, but I received an apathetic response. Technician hardly painted the toe nails after the pedicure. She gave a cursory paint/ no base or top coat. Two technicians were very friendly to one woman who was getting a pedi and mani. Was traveling on business in the area and wanted to find a place within walking distance to my hotel. The reviews on Yelp convinced me to try Simply Polished, and I made an appointment online with a specific technician, midday on a week day. Upon entering the salon, I was excited, as their small space is in a charming, older building with a nice paint job, which makes it feel cozy. However, no one made an effort to properly greet me after standing at the front for awhile. One of the technicians in the back of the salon mumbled something to the effect that someone would be with me shortly. I noticed another customer standing there for a long time waiting for someone to greet her. The technicians all glance at the front and at each other, but no one takes the lead to greet and manage the intake of customers, which gives you the impression that you may or may not be in good hands or treated well here. I waited about 5-10 minutes past my appointment time until a technician waved me over - again, not a warm or professional greeting - but that wasn't my main issue. I don't need a place to be necessarily warm and fuzzy if the end result is good. My technician may or may not have been the person assigned to me online. She was not rude, but seemed a bit rushed and didn't do a great job on removing my gel polish and a giving me a regular manicure. The polish was wavy and lumpy and the color was not applied all the way down and across the nail bed. She also didn't pay a lot of attention to the cuticles (it hurt when she pushed them down) or trimming my hang nails. I would have spoken up if I thought she were interested or capable of making them look better. My nails didn't look terrible, and I loved the color, but upon closer inspection, they looked about as good as if I had done them myself. For $25.00 plus tip, I expected a little more. The lack of warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail was a turnoff and I think I'll try another salon when traveling in the area again. read more

My sister and I just got back from getting pedicures. Called first thing this morning and made appts for 1030. I got a text reminder, which was nice. The location is great ... near downtown, but without parking issues. The first thing I noticed upon entering was there isn't that horrible toxic nail salon smell that makes me nauseous after a while. I am happy! We were greeted sweetly and asked to get color. Meanwhile, our two chairs and water were prepared and ready for us. The technicians were personable, but also respectful of our conversation. Serious bonus points for vegan products used! And it's not advertised anywhere I saw. LOVE! I garden and love to walk barefoot so my feet are always trashed. No judgement or eye rolls. The whole experience was lovely. Great technicians. Simply Polished is the best nail salon in Monterey. I've had both manicure and pedicures, standard polish and gel polish. I have brought my daughters for mani/pedi's and love that they have a special kids menu for those services! The salon is clean and beautifully decorated. I mention this because the services they are providing are both health & aesthetic related, how the business is presented should demonstrate their skill & hygiene. I've been to far too many nail salons where the cleanliness and talent were questionable, where I didn't want to use their restroom let alone have them trim my cuticles. Simply Polished is exactly what I've been looking for. I have seen Blair several times. She has given me the BEST manicures I have ever had. Perfect nail shaping. The polish applied perfectly. I'll preface with ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU'RE GETTING WHAT YOU ASKED FOR. (Photos are from second appointment) I've been to this place twice. 1st for my first gel manicure & second for a color change for the gel polish. Both times I made an appointment through the yelp app for someone named Laura & both times I got two different people. The first person, Amy, did a wonderful job on my nails. She even helped pick the shade best for my skin tone. They never chipped the 2 weeks and some days I had them before I went back for a color change. I had a lovely experience with her. The second time my experience wasn't as lovely, unfortunately. I went in on time and was asked to wait 10 minutes because someone thought I had acrylic and the woman who did that fill was busy. Once I went and sat down they realized that wasn't the case I was sat with the original person before I was asked to wait. The experience with her was fine. She filed a couple nails at an angle so I asked her to fix it which she kindly did. She was friendly in the sense that she smiled & filed what I asked but she did not speak. The 3 words that she did say I noticed her English was very hard to understand which is not a big deal, I get the language barrier it can be hard to have conversation that was no biggie. However, as I mentioned I made an appointment for a gel color change ($25), I was charged for a gel manicure ($30) because that's what she went ahead and did?? without asking me or letting me know or checking in..? I'd never had gel nails so I'm not sure what that process looks like when you go in for just a color change. And sure you may think "what's $5?" which is what I did when I paid it but, in hindsight, that's not right.
