I came in for a massage and facial, and I was accommodated. Honestly, it wasn't the best but it wasn't that bad that my night is ruined. I paid plus some tip for her time, which is always optional by the way. My masseuse then confronted me and started to argue with me about the tip I gave her, and pointed to their print out of tip recommendations, and asked me if I could read. She went on about how if she worked in a restaurant, a generous tip would've been standard. I had to her remind her that zero dollars was also an option and in some restaurants, I have been asked to skip tipping entirely and they were still gracious about service bc they genuinely love what they do. I have never been spoken to this way in my entire life, including spas in hotels and in resorts. It was obnoxious. I am glad that I saw how you reacted to little bc now I won't give you more. The masseuses worked quietly and the ambiance remained peaceful throughout the experience. Went here with my daughter for a late Mother's Day treat from her. The place is small but clean. My daughter and I were in the same room. We both got the same service. The massage was exceptional. If you like strong and deep tissue massage, this is the place to go. The massage covered from my scalp, base of my neck, my mid back that I didnt know had knots, legs and feet. We also had the facial. But that wasnt as good as the massage. The only complaint i have is the parking. THE BEST MASSAGE OF MY LIFE. Service was amazing, the quality of the massage was amazing, the vibes cultivated in the building were amazing. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. The only only thing i wish they had is maybe a sauna for before the massage to loosen the muscles. But that's just me being picky. The price was completely reasonable in my opinion. $80 for a 60 min full body massage. I went to La Vie because i had just gotten into a car accident a couple days prior and was experiencing whiplash and a lot of back pain. She was able to locate all my knots in my back and massage them out, applying the perfect amount of pressure. She made me feel very comfortable and was conscious of my injuries. I requested a texted receipt on their iPad POS thing and i must have punched in the wrong phone number because it did not go through. No fault to La Vie at all. But i emailed them after requesting a copy of my receipt and someone got back to me within a couple of hours with a copy of the receipt for me to be able to submit to car insurance. She started off by asking me what areas I wanted her to focus on or avoid (which I appreciated because my neck and traps were needing extra love and some times I'm too shy to ask for extra focus on certain areas). The place is small, cozy, in a lovely area of La Jolla near the water. The place is clean and relaxing. Anne was so in tune with my body. She had the perfect amount of pressure through out and seemed to know all the spots on my body that needed TLC without me having to direct her. I went into my appointment feeling stressed by life and physically drained from my autoimmune flare up and I left the massage place feeling relaxed & somewhat healed. I want to support local businesses with amazing service so writing a quick review. Went in today for a 90min massage + facial combo. Was excellent! Started with a warm welcome by front desk attendant who asked about any concerns or pains to be aware of, allergies with their lotions and oils, etc. I appreciate the convo before going in versus being on the table and ready to go and then considering "I am allergic to coconut?" The space feels very inviting, small and cozy, and very clean. The room for the service was a good temp, with comfortable sheets and massage table. Full height walls and a sliding door was nice for your privacy so you're not hearing other people - plus had background piano music playing to help you zen out. Started with full body massage using hot stones and oil on my back, ramping up to more shiatsu type work on back, arms, legs, and neck. I think the massage portion was about 45 min but time stopped having meaning once the oil touched my skin. Then I was turned over for second half of service for facial. I have not had many facials in my life but this was definitely by far the best and will encourage me to do more. Very pleasing layering of lotions and exfoliants, with my attendant using a steamer on my face during the treatment so pores were well opened. Included a mud mask, I think a microdermabrasion treatment (small sucker across my nose and forehead?), light therapy box over my head, and a quick scalp massage. What was extra nice was between facial treatments setting or soaking in, my attendant would then switch to an arm or leg massage so at pretty much all times during the 90 min of service you're being pampered. Overall great experience, great people, great price especially for the area, and would definitely go back. Two things to be aware of: 1) they are a small studio (maybe 3 single rooms, and a couples massage room?) so my reservation was at 10am since they were booked the rest of day and 2) parking was a little limited since they are right on La Jolla Blvd so plan ahead for some parking karma to not be late for your appointment (I also don't think there's a sign out front so is easy to miss). read more

My wife and I got a couples massage and I have never walked out from a massage more pissed than relaxed. Worst massage of my life. The lady who worked on me asked me what areas I'd like to focus on, after I said shoulders and lower back, she worked on both areas a total of 10 minutes and spent the majority of the time on my legs and neck. Also, she put WAY too much pressure on everything. She had a very heavy arm/hand. After I asked her to apply less pressure she laughed, said "okay" and literally applied the same of pressure. I scheduled an appointment for a couples massage as birthday present for my husband and it was one of the best experiences ever! I was able to schedule the appointment by messaging them on Yelp a few days before; super convenient and they were very quick to respond. We arrived right when they opened for our 10am appointment on Sunday and there was plenty of street parking right in front of the spa. We were greeted immediately and taken to our room right away. The room was very clean and the beds were the perfect firmness. Now the massages themselves...these ladies are AMAZING! I mentioned to Gina that I wanted her to focus on my upper body and she spent most of the hour doing just that. My husband said that Joy somehow knew all the aching spots on his body without him having to mention a single thing. I just took my good friend here for a massage and facial for her birthday and left a little disappointed. First, we came in and was asked to wait in the waiting room. So while we were waiting we asked if we could have some of the tea that was out and we were told that the tea had been there for a very long time....okay never mind. Initially, I asked for two separate rooms but they said they didn't have separate rooms which was totally fine. We get in to the room and lay down ready for our massages. The two women come in to do our massages and began setting up I guess? It seemed a little unorganized but it was fine I thought. They continued to shuffle through the room for what felt like a while before actually beginning the massage. These two women talked to each other THE ENTIRE HOUR. I thought they were just getting everything together but no, the whole time we couldn't relax because they wouldn't stop talking to each other. I thought the massages were going to be deep tissue, they weren't. It just kind of seemed like they were so busy talking to each other that they didn't really focus on what they were actually supposed to be doing. Here is why I gave two stars. When the massage was over those two women left, and two different women came in for our facials and it was night and day. These two women came in in scrubs and were so polite and professional. BEST FACIAL I HAVE EVER HAD. I fell asleep like three times. They gave us better massages than the first pair of women which blows my mind. Lastly, I was over charged. Online the cash price differed from if you paid with a card, and they were also having a special for $5 off a massage. They charged me an extra $10 for each of us. Obviously I didn't argue for the simple fact that this was already a let down of a birthday gift for my friend. Overall, I am pretty disappointed in everything but the facials. I paid a lot of money for this gift to my friend and was let down. So the two stars are solely for the facials. read more

I had a good first experience here. They were able to fit me in as a walk in, massage pressure was good, facility was clean, and they were nice. However, I just got a check in call for my second appointment and was hung up on when I said I couldn't make it because our office is dealing with contingency planning for the virus outbreak and both of my kids have come down with RSV. Ok this rounds out my three go to massage studios in La Jolla (Namaste by Bella is my favorite by far, she just has a gift, Rama for Thai style, and La Vie which I give a five because it hits a different set of priorities for this category: 1. Actual CMTs - Check 2. Open Late - Check 3. Inexpensive - Check 4. Easy to get an appointment - Check (maybe not for long though since they recently opened :( 5. Free hot stone massage added - not even on my check list but awesome. Ive written the same intro twice so I won't bore you wii details but I get weekly massages at least because my back is bad (herniated discs, muscle spasms etc.). I just moved back to San Diego after two years overseas and since my house in PB is rented, decided to try LJ village so everything is kind of new to me. La Vie is a solid 4.5/5 when you want a nice Swedish style massage. I've been here 4 times and two massages each with Ivy and Ahn. Ivy has a more mellow touch and Ahn will get after your knots more aggressively. Since I have an insurance paid for weekly massage with Bella at Namaste, and mix in some Thai at Rama, I like Ivy's mellow, medium pressure Swedish style after weekend warrior type exercise (warrior may be pushing it a tad lol) as a reward for actually exercising again. Anyway, the only complaint I have is the beds are the flat one piece type with a face hole and my narrowish face only rests on the forehead area which is a little bit uncomfortable after a while for me but certainly no deal breaker and they are otherwise totally comfy (and wide which is a plus if you're a guy and have normal or above shoulders). Bottom line is 50 dollars for 60 minutes of good CMT massage and hot stone in LJ - you can't go wrong with that! read more

I've never had a good experience with massages, I always left leaving sore for weeks afterwards. I knew I really needed one despite my past experiences since I injured my back a month ago and also started an office job and sitting all day long is not something I'm used to. All in all, I was super tense and my body just didn't feel good. I have to say, I'm really glad I went because I had a great experience. The person doing the massage really knew what kind of pressure to put where and it never hurt after she was done. The whole thing was so relaxing and it really felt like I was getting all the kinks worked out. I'm super glad I went. I got the signature coconut oil massage and I really enjoyed it. The only drawback I can think of is they only have street parking and I'm terrible at parallel parking. Obviously that's not enough of an issue for it to deter me from coming again.
