The sandwich was definitely on the small side for the price, but the soup was a decent-sized portion, and the meat (sliced to order) and other ingredients were of good quality. Oh boy is this place great. I have tried three different sandwiches, the salmon, prosciutto, and the bresaola. All served an a delicious, freshly baked pretzel bun. All the meat is freshly sliced and all the ingredients are carefully placed on the sandwich. It's not your ordinary sandwich place that just slaps on your deli meat. They have thoughtfully planned out all the portions and it really shines through their food. An added bonus is almost all their ingredients are organic. A filling sandwich and a bag of chips will cost you around 11 or 12 dollars. For me, this price is worth it for the quality of ingredients. I've also tried their apple bread and so moist and delicious. It's not overly sweet nor does it have an overpowering apple flavor. Just perfect. I have been wanting to try Hannah's Bretzel for the last three years and I finally understand the hype. I thought the sandwich was good and that the ingredients seemed pretty high quality too. Oddly, I really LOVED their house chips. They were honestly the best chips I've eaten in a long time and I eat a lot of chips.. I ordered the Italian Prosciutto di Parma + Avocado Breakfast Sandwich and the person making my order accidentally made me Italian Prosciutto di Parma + White Truffled Goat Cheese (and then added $1 for the avocado). By the time I realized he had messed up my order, it was too late for me to say anything about it. Regardless of that little mixup, the sandwich was really good. All the organic, free range goodness you can ask for. I have the wecken Chicken and Avocado sandwich typically. It's amazing and actually very filling despite being the smaller of the two sandwich bread options -- a most delicious pretzel roll either in the form of a wecken (small round roll) or a baguette. They have tons of sandwich options as far as ingredients go. All look tasty. Chocolate bars from all over the world line the assembly line of very courteous and efficient sandwich makers. If you're looking for a healthy location to eat I recommend going here. I don't remember the exact name of the sandwich I order, but it had avocado and sliced chicken on it. The bretzel bread is awesome, they slice the meat while you watch. I like the design of the place, its modern and kind of a fun feeling. The downside is that I will go one in awhile. I recently returned to work in the Downtown area..and had heard a lot of hoolah about this place... My first choice was the Thanksgiving one as I love cranberry chutney sauce...I knew Id be dishing out more money than usual to eat at this joint but I thought what the heck.. I have to splurge a little. While I did notice the finer.. ingredients and more "upscaly" type cheeses being used... the portion size is laughable. Even the "baguette" is ridiculously narrow and this is the "bigger" option. For a minute I felt more like in a Deli in Europe with the tiny portions. I am not a big girl at all..and am quite petite (size 0) but even this portion size was too small for me to really feel full and satisfied plus I was still in sticker shock price especially when I saw the paper thin turkey breast being used... So the food itself is pretty good.. ( I always ask for the same one because I love it so much) and if I ever want to treat myself...I will come here. Their flourless chocolate cookie.... very good however I did not like that what they have in the glass display is different than what they give you.. they already have them pre-bagged and let me just tell you... the pre-bagged ones are MUCH smaller than the ones on display. Again for $2 of very thin cookies..I expect a little bit more...I noticed that the cookies are not all made of equal size.. nope.. some will be bigger some smaller but you will still have to dish out the same $2 plus tax..regardless if you get stuck with the smaller oddly shaped one. Not fair in my opinion.. Use a darn cookie cutter and make them all the same size. Obviously.. no one forces us to dine somewhere and their prices are what they are and its up to the consumer to make the decision whether they want to continue patronizing a business. I understand the whole concept of "we use only organic ingredients " schlep to justify inflated prices but while that may be so, there is no reason why you should make the portion size miniature sized...alas there will always be suckers like me willing to spend money on a "luxury" sandwich. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time. Finally, one opened up close by work. The sign on the door of the new Italian Bresaola sandwich looked devine. Not so much. A respectable line to the counter, where you order Chipotle line style. The end product was more bread than anything else. Miniscule amount of meat and the ingredients just didn't come together. All for $11. A sandwich that cost $11! Nice profit margin, I would guess. I like the concept, but Hannah's didn't come close to delivering. This is why I usually bring my lunch to work. Great sandwiches, horrible horrible customer service! My friend and I visited this location before work and we proceeded to order. We were the only ones there, yet we were pressured into ordering quickly because the employees had to return to their phones. The cashier was so rude and she was even rushing us while we were checking out. We then went to put milk and sugar in our coffees and the whole time all the employees were staring at us waiting for us to leave. One of them even asked "do you guys need anything else?!" in an angry tone! As if we are inconveniencing them standing there!! I would like to take this opportunity to express my delight with the wonderful services I received tonight after a stressful annual Chicago meeting, but my girls took care of me and made me feel welcomed. These days it is not often that a fast casual restaurants goes beyond the extra mile for their guests, however it simply was a pleasure eating at this restaurant. FYI (please get Wine/beer or be BYOB.) They took every measure to ensure that my first experience was impeccable. Sandwich served on a pretzel bun. I had the Wild Alaskan Smoked Salmon and it was quite delicious. A couple things to improve: since I'm a light eater, the smaller size is about the right amount for me, but I can understand other reviewers' complaints about it being too small for the cost. For the baguette - if you're counting the size of the bread and the fillings - it's probably about 2/3 the size of a 6-inch Subway or a tad less. The "wecken" bun is even smaller. I can't imagine someone with a very healthy appetite satisfied with just one sandwich. Finally, all the sandwiches already have their set ingredients. It would be nicer if we could choose our fillings. I would have liked to have a cheese spread over the housemade dill crème fraiche for my sandwich. I suppose if I wanted my extra fillings/spreads custom-made, I would have to be quick about mentioning it. read more

Had a great experience here today, and it was my first time in a Hannah's Bretzels ever. While looking at the menu, the owner came and started talking to me. Super nice and friendly guy, German and charming. My sandwich was very good! Apparently they have combos with soup or salad, I'll try that next time. However, the portions are as small as they can conceivably get without being laughable, and their claim to fame of organic, and hence, the excuse for the mile high price tag (for a simple sandwich), is misguided. First, let the buyer beware, even here as HB's is not all organic, just conveniently organic. Most of their sandwiches carry a 50% to 76% organic labeling, which is fine, but not at their prices of about $11 each before taxes...While sandwiches such as the Thanksgiving 365 are tasty, most of that "taste" is from the baguette. About 2 ounces of the most featherweight smoked turkey available on planet Earth; a tiny sliver of brie cheese, maybe a teaspoon full of cranberry chutney, a piece of romaine lettuce is what the customer gets. I'm all for quality and organic, and good food. That said, teensy tiny portions paired with bountiful pricings leaves me at "meh - I've experienced better." read more

Let me preface with my love for Hannah's Bretzel. I've been to many other locations in the city and never had a bad experience. I probably will continue to walk a further distance to one with better service. I went here and they were all out of the full size bretzel so I changed my order so I could have a combo wrecken and soup. I ordered the barley soup, but I didn't find one piece of barley in it.
