Hannara's been on my radar for a minute! I've heard a lot of good things so I had to jump on this opportunity to try them out. I ordered the Hawaiian plate and my other half ordered hamburger steak. Hawaiian plate was okay. Kalua pig was very good. Lots of flavor and very moist. Laulau was also tasty. But the beef stew was such a let down. The stew meat was hard and the potatoes were not cooked - hard and crunchy. Had to pass on the stew, and it was what I was really craving. Hamburger streak unfortunately didn't hit the spot either. The hamburger was more like meatloaf and the gravy was meh. Only if they grilled the hamburger so it wasn't just mush. Two plates and two drinks just shy of $40, for plate lunch. They give large portions but I don't think it's worth it. read more

Okay, our go-to for breakfast during this stay in Oahu has been Countryside Cafe, but I wanted to try something different. My husband was reluctant to step outside of what we knew was good, but I like to "sample" lots of different places, so he half-heartedly agreed to try something new. Hannara was sitting right off the main drag, so we stopped. There were lots of locals here and the place was pretty busy. You have to use hand sanitizer as you enter or they won't seat you, although they didn't check vaccination cards or IDs. All staff had on masks. The person at the front pointed to a table and told us to take a seat. After sitting and waiting for awhile with no one checking on us or giving us menus, I thought, "Okay, what does it take to get service?" Not a good start and I knew I'd never hear the end of it from my husband. A minute later and the friendliest, sweetest waitperson came to our table! She thanked us for waiting and made up for all the time we just sat there. She brought us our coffee and menus quickly and remained upbeat and friendly. I ordered the Breakfast Plate that included 2 eggs, a starch, and whatever meat you wanted and it was only $7.95!! I had my eggs over-easy with 2 scoops of rice and a hamburger pattie; she asked if I wanted gravy and, of course, I said yes! The hamburger pattie was huge and the gravy was so, so delicious... definitely made from drippings and not a mix! The pattie itself was very flavorful and tender, cooked just right. With the eggs, rice, and gravy, it was Loco Moco Heaven!! It was so much food that I could only eat half of my order; that means leftovers for tomorrow's breakfast (woohoo... two meals for $7.95!!)! My husband ordered the 2 stack of macadamia pancakes (also $7.95) with a side of Portuguese sausage ($4.25). The pancakes were as big as the plate and very tender, fluffy, and chock full of chopped macadamias. The side of Portuguese sausage included 5 good-sized diagonal slices. I would've just ordered the combination pancakes with a meat side (much more cost effective), but my husband never looks at cost and practicality! He couldn't finish his meal either, so at least he'll have food for his breakfast tomorrow, too. The waitfolks came back to check on us and refill our coffee several times; so sweet and attentive! So, what started as a not too great experience ended up as a super duper one. I'd go back in a heartbeat! read more

Wow, what an amazing meal! Staff was friendly and quick to bring everything we needed. Legitimately one of the best cups of coffee I've had anywhere. Normally I do honey or sugar in my coffee but this was sweet enough just black. I had only ordered a soda but when my wife remarked that I had to include how good the coffee was I said sure but let me taste it... I immediately asked our waitress for a cup - delicious! My wife and I both got the fried rice omelette, I opted for the fried potatoes and my wife got the hash browns. Fried rice was awesome, the cheese was a nice touch and the omelette itself was well cooked and folded nicely. It wasn't a cheap meal for breakfast but the quality and quantity of food was well worth it. I'm sure we will be back for another enjoyable meal! read more

Ive been coming here over ten years. Ive had a few mishaps with food incidents but let it go or the owner would either discount or comp the item. That seemed to go on almost everytime I went their. The embarrassing part is that their food either had hairs in it , a piece of meat that didnt belong in a salad, and a plastic bread tie in another friends salad bowl. I stopped going there for a couple of months thinking things should be better by now. Boy was I in for a shocker. I took my friends there for lunch Saturday June 15, around 11:45am. There were 4 of us. We ordered a lot of food for which the majority was ok/so-so. Service was usual but when our food came out, we were eating, then my niece said oh my! When she looked closely it was part of an eyelash. I had my niece take it out and gave it to the waitress, who then took it to the manager. No one came by to apologize so I assumed they would just take it off the bill. As we continued to eat we couldn't help swatting flies that kept on hoovering before during and after our meal. This put a greater damper on our lunch. WAIT IT GETS BETTER!! Just as my friend and niece reach to eat their other food, A FREAKING COCKROACH RUNS BETWEEN THEIR PLATES. It runs to the edge of the table where I swatted it wadding up some napkins to hit it with. It ended up falling to the floor but dead. I took a picture of the bug, called the waitress to tell her and show her the pic, which she once again took to her manager. Nothing happened, so our appetite was pretty much spoiled. The feeling we go in there disipated really quick, the ambiance was was not a feeling of comfort, so we asked for boxes to take our food out of there because we couldnt eat in there where we had to fight the flies. But my nieces father called on the phone to order him the same salad she had, but to go. I told the waitress with out the eyelashes. It funny because it could've been hers because she had big fake eyelashes on. When the bill came, I asked the waitress if the manager was going to do anything about our nasty experiences today regarding our food and bug issue? The manager came over and apologized for the issues but said she can't give a discount or adjust the bill because the cashier doesnt have the button to put in refunds or discount. Only the owner can do that. I told her what you talking about? You're the manager you should have ways to take off the items from the bill. Its not like we're telling you to take half off my total which was HELLO $145!!! Just the eyelash salad and perhaps a 10-15% discount for my extermination fee. She said oh sorry can not! I told her thats find. Now I will be taking this issue as well as my past issues to the state Board of Health along with my dead friend mr. Cockroach In conclusion, I could've made a big scene in there but because we're christians we dont make make a public display. It would only bring reproach on the God we worship. My fave go to spot on the Wessside! I always leaving this place feeling like I'm 509lbs, BUT 500lbs of Onolicious delights! Don't let the Waianae name scare you away, Just lots of Aloha from the workers and patrons there. Very friendly and the service is great! Real local style atmosphere where you will feel comfortable like eating a home cook meal. The problem I have is trying to choose what I want to eat! The food is great.... Beef Curry, Hamburger Steak, Potk Steak, are just some of my favorites. But whatever I choose, I have my automatics that go along with my selection. Recommended to us by a local woman and did not disappoint. Ample portions of delicious Hawaiian, Korean and Polynesian foods. Staff were knowledgeable, courteous and patient with clients from the mainland who had lots of questions. Recommendations from staff were right on. The site is simple but clean. Location: The restaurant is located in Waianae. There are a lot of parking at this small shopping center. Food: They offer a variety of foods from Local, Korean and Hawaiian food. I ordered take out on a weekday during lunch. I decided to order the Bibimbap since it sounded like a healthier choice than some of the other options. The takeout bibimbap came with a bed of rice, sauce on the side, beef, one egg, kim chee, bean sprouts and a few other Korean vegetables. Price: I paid over $12 for the bibimbap. They charge you extra for takeout and a kitchen fee. The price on the menu was around $10 so I paid a little over $2 of all the extra fees. A lot of their food is priced $10-$18 so expect to pay a good amount when you take your family to eat here. Ambiance: It is a small town restaurant in Waianae. It has a very homey vibe. Overall, I would dine here again if I'm in the area. read more

Sign inside says Best Hamburger Steak on the West side. It is the one place u gotta go when you are in Waianae. It is a home town diner. The kind where you sit down and talk to your friends. Service and food is no frills. Fast service, fast with the food. Notables for me is the Chicken Katsu (chunky like how Diners used to be), Grilled Tofu w/ chicken(the gravy is ono), Hawaiian plate will get you full. Decided to take a nice drive to the west side and randomly ended up here. I havent been here in years! Its one of those places you gotta visit from child hood days. There were more workers then i last remembered, really nice and good service. It wasnt as busy but it was a good amount of people there. I love the decorations on the way of all the pics and wood art they have. Food was awesome. I love how its homemade hamburger steak....and the amount of food they give is unbelievable. For our first dinner out while here on vacation we wanted some good Hawaiian food and this spot looked good. I very much enjoyed the Loco Moco and my wife enjoyed the Chopped Steak with noodles and veggies. Both meals included rice and macaroni salad. Both were very tasty with generous portions provided. Very Westside style diner popular with the locals. Portion sizes are huge and great bang for your buck. It isn't vegetarian friendly for those who are more health conscious. We ordered the fried steak with vegetables and noodles for me, teri hamburger steak patties, a side of French toast, and pork chop platter. Food came out piping hot. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Much MAHALO to my Yelp buddy - Bruddah Ric C., as he was the one that turned a bruddah on to where to go for some local kine grindages when in Waianae! There is more than ample parking in the private parking lot fronting the restaurant, but the parking is shared by other businesses. If you can find parking, just leave your car at Waianae Mall, and walk next door to Hannara Restaurant, as it just a hop, skip, & jump away. Walking into Hannara Restaurant reminds me of the old skool mom & pop kine diner..........no fancy schmancy decor..........just old skool vinyl booths, and a bar type counter top. The food menu is pretty extensive...........if you're here for breakfast, they got that. If you like Hawaiian grindages..........they have that too! Not into Hawaiian? Then how about some Korean grindages? No? Well they got local plate lunch grindages too! Upon walking into the joint, my coworker & I sat ourselves down into a vinyl booth. Water was dropped off with menus shortly after. After looking over the menu, I decided to get a Fried Chicken plate, & my coworker got a Hawaiian Plate. What can I say about the grindages? My Fried Chicken plate was not regular sized chicken pieces, but actually little fried chicken drumettes, that came with white rice, & mac salad. I love anything that is fried...........and if it's chicken, even better! The drumettes were tasty, and I only wished I had more of it! My coworker enjoyed his Hawaiian plate! Eat where the locals eat...... I always stop here for an Hawaiian plate with poke and poi. Laulau and poi was fresh, beef stew was a little bland (nothing a little salt won't fix), Lomi salmon was a little over minced and I wish I had more poke lol. Someone ordered a cheeseburger it was really good, patty was fresh and cooked to the right temp. Decor and booths are a little dated, it's part of the charm. Me & the hubby decided last minute to go to hannara's! Regardless they were almost closing so we got there at a perfect time. That was the fastest I had ever got my food & it was bomb! The Beef curry meat was actually really soft & to pair it with my favorite banana hotcakes! It was so good you should definitely try it. The saimin was soo good too it had the works in it. Not really familiar with the Waianae side of this island, but I decided to try this place out with my boyfriend and his family. We called in for take out to bring back to the house. It looked pretty busy, which must mean the food is good! When we got there, there was already a line forming out the door. We were completely right, the food was delicious! I ordered their lau lau and chicken plate. They give a good sized portion of their food for their price and the staff working was very nice and welcoming. The interaction between getting the food was short and sweet and all staff members were following COVID regulations. I like how they have different kinds of food, for example they had a local section, Korean section, and a Hawaiian section so you have plenty of options to choose from. There was a lot of parking right outside of the restaurant so that's nothing to worry about. read more
