My family and I have been coming here with ALL of our car needs for decades now and have been met with nothing but fantastic service every time. I needed a complete brake job last summer and went to a more well known mechanic as they wanted to charge me $1500! Hannibal took care of the job for only $500! Despite all the positive reviews, my experience here was far from excellent. Brought my car in three times and each time it comes back with MORE problems! Dishonest people. My most recent time I dropped my car off about 2 weeks ago with the check engine light on. So I get the car back in 3-4 days no check engine light but they tell me that my battery was low when I get there, so they "charge" it before I leave. After I leave, the next day my car has trouble starting; it needs a jump EVERY TIME to start. So I bring the car in yet again to be fixed. They fix it in under an day so I get it back. Think this is the end? Because it's not; now the airbag sign is on AND the check engine light is still on...talk about poor work. Do yourself a favor: Avoid this place their work is sloppy and completely unacceptable for what you pay for. Ask about the work done to your car? No solid answers from anyone who works there. Just really disappointed in how many times I've come back to more problems. Another pet peeve: they leave their trash in your car after their done working on it. What a joke read more

After being a devoted follower of another local auto-repair place (14 yrs) that disappointed me twice within a two week period of ... I've changed my religion to "Hannibal's". My dog groomer said she'd been going there for a few years and was always treated well & noticed her repair bills had gone down! she said, "go to Hannibal's he will take care of you & he's an honest guy!" I've been back twice in 2 months. I like them because they remind me of the type of place I use to go to by identifying the problem, giving you options and a price and then talking with you about things to keep an eye on etc! I hope to stay a Hannibal's Auto repair believer ! It is a smaller place so you do have to plan a couple of days in advance! read more

Brought my car here a few days ago to get fixed. They diagnose the issue and it's $300 to fix in the front end of my car. It runs fine for a day and starts having the same problem AGAIN. I go back to have them fix it again and re diagnose and they say they'll take a look and eventually keep it overnight. It's fixed and it's another $400 to do the work and apparently it's "all set"... and the car starts having the same problem THE SAME DAY as soon as I take it out for a 5 minute drive. A terrible and unreliable service. $700 later and I still have a car that doesn't function right read more

Every time I foolishly brought it back for them to repair what they broke, they somehow managed to break something else. When I very politely expressed my frustrations, he had the nerves to basically kick me out after excepting my cash of course. I live next door to Hannibal Auto Service and the place is always busy. I took my car there for a check engine light and came away with my wheel barrings fixed and my car operating better than ever. My transmission needs help but Hannibal did everything he could to fix it and make my car operable without replacing it at a crazy cost. He couldn't have done more for me if he tried. Never wanting to do with that wasn't necessary and making me pay for something I didn't really need. Last night the check engine light came on in my Honda. Hannibal was able to see me immediately and diagnose the problem right when I arrived. They also performed a courtesy check of my oil and found that I was extremely low on oil. I wasn't aware that this car was burning oil up so I hadn't bothered to routinely check this car, so without that courtesy check I may very well have lost my engine. Overall, I received prompt and courteous service at a great price. I would highly recommend Hannibal. read more

I really like this auto repair shop. Mr. Hannibal is a friendly, hard-working individual who knows the meaning of service. I started with a brake light job for inspection, which he did and charged me nothing at all. Then, I have my car towed in yesterday with a broken starter, and even though he has so many cars in and around his shop, he accepted it with open arms. Then, he had trouble getting a starter, and I expressed that I really needed the car for work the next day. He told me he would have it done. This was at 3:30 in the afternoon with no part in sight yet. He calls me at 7:45 AM the next morning on Saturday of the long Labor Day weekend and told me to come to pick it up! Not only that, the charge was right on the money and certainly less than it could have been for the job and the part. Color me impressed. THEN, while I'm walking to my car in the wrong direction (unbeknownst to me) he swings by in a car he is parking and offers me a ride to my car! Truly the best mechanic experience I've ever had in 58 years, and I can only think that the one-star reviewers here have issues outside of what they think they experienced with this great company. read more

Hannibal's started off as a nice guy, until I had to keep going back n forth about something he didn't fix correctly.. i wanted to be their for the engine swap, because I paid for the engine and wanted to make sure it was the engine I purchase and swapped in my car nobody else's. Their was a car that looked like mine and for some reason after all said and done paid the guy an still have issues. I fix cars also and just wanted an engine swap, he did but whatever he did during the swap my car dont function correctly, engine locks up, new alternator when I brought to him, old alternator when I get vehicle back. If I had the tools to do an engine swap I would've did it myself, this guy gave me back a car not functioning, and never really working correctly, battery drain, alternator drain, i do have warranty on at autozone on both parts and still does the same shit... drains battery alternator and engine lock up and smoke coming from left tire...never happened by swap... 2 thumbs down.. for the B.s. after he got money for my car y car wasn't shit nor did he fix it properly, I bring to him he say come back, come back, i dont have time for that shit, n its been over a year since this happened.. i gave him the benefit of the doubt n it was a disappointment. I was better off keeping money for the engine swapp, and the money I paid him, because it was a waste... the job wasn't done correctly and car isn't functioning after paying him.. it sits a couple blocks from his shop for a year now I'm far from dumb, i work on cars, this guy pretty much ripped me off with a fair price thought the guy was nice.... after the experience, nope not ever again... i work a lil far and this guy couldn't a car to run properly, he has alllllll the tools I wish i had cuz I wouldve did myself... asking him to check it and make sure my car was 100% was like asking 2 month old baby to tie his/her shoe... crazy, I wouldve taken to small claims, but a review is good enough... Today was a tough day for me but I have to say Hannibal and his team made it A LOT easier. At 6am on my way to my first day of classes my car broke down on the highway in Dorchester. Definitely not ideal. When the tow picked me up, they suggested Hannibal instead of the Sunoco AAA suggested. It was closer and overall more convenient so I said why not. From the second I got there they were super nice. My car stayed there while I was in classes and by the time I got out it was all fixed up and surprisingly I was not over charged one bit. This was a relief considering the urgency and unplanned visit. They stayed open until I was able to get there which was a huge relief. Before I drove off, Hannibal even double checked under the hood to make sure everything was in order. The parking is not great but to me the work on the cars is more important. I live 30 minutes away but I'll definitely be coming back for help in the future. read more

Brought my car in for one issue, fading dashboard lights he assures me he can fix it so I leave my car. In order to fix this he tells me they have to take the dashboard out. They call me at the end of the day to say it's done when I pick it up the dashboard lights are a different color from originally. I ask why he says he does not know, since the lights are working I let that slide. After I take off I notice that my directional signal is not working properly, it was working fine prior to them opening my dashboard. So I take it back the next day, where the owner very rudely (he seemed aggravated) says I have all these cars to work on that are a priority, this directional issue is not bring your car back tomorrow. At this point if I was smart I wouldn't have brought my car back. But I did, when I picked it up this time, the directional issue was fixed but my blowers (for heat &a/c) were not working. I brought it back immediately and this guy got so nasty with me, I told him look you're the one screwing my car up how dare you get an attitude with me!!! They totally screwed up all my electrical wiring to the point that this past Monday there was a fire underneath my hood. My car has been out of commision all week now I have to find another mechanic and pay more money to have my car fixed. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. HORRID!! read more

From lack of professionalism to extended days in which was NOT communicated. A car in which was suppose to be at HANNIBALS SHOP for a day ended up being there for over 4 DAYS. Oh and they're not open on Sundays, so my car sat there until Monday and now there is an astronomical price. Not to mention the car rentals fees that have accumulated for the POOR performance of delivering to the car as promised. Each day their poor receptionist called and said the car was completed it WAS NOT. HANNIBALS SHOP demanded the money be paid despite NOT doing a test run prior to payment. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SHOP AGAIN! I'd rather go to the factory and pay the additional cost. At least, I know I will get my car back on the promised day WITHOUT any runaround. Utterly POOR PERFORMANCE. OVER BOOKED! There is no care going into the cars that are being serviced. BE AWARE! I would give this place ZERO STARS if it were available. read more

Hannibal is the best. Any time i have a problem with my car, he stops whatever he is doing to give my car a test run to see what he thinks it is. He has my car back to me in a day no matter how busy they are. It means a lot to me (being a woman) that he doesn't take advantage of my lack of knowledge about cars and charges me as he would anyone else. Any time i tell someone what he charged me, they are almost surprised hpw cheap it was. I live about 35 mi. North of Boston. Last Wednesday evening, I was driving my '04 Infiniti G35 Coupe south thru the O'Neill tunnel in Boston when my engine cooling system took a dive: complete boil-over; "Service Engine Soon" light on; water temp gauge pinned. Fortunately, I was able to get it to an offramp in "limp home" mode. Not knowing any repair shops in Boston, I followed the advice of the AAA tow truck driver & had it taken to Hannibal's Auto Repair in Dorchester. Busy as they seemed to be, they got on it and within about 4 business hours, had the answer for me: radiator cooling fan failure; overheating wrecked the thermostat & boiled off almost all the coolant. Luckily, hoses OK & no engine damage. Hannibal & his crew had it repaired the next morning (fan had to be ordered), at a total cost of $ 395.00 P & L...probably less than 1/2 of what I would've paid at an Infiniti dealer or even most independents. Living as far from Dorchester as I do, I won't be a "regular" customer, but for those of you who do live nearby - or, like me, have a car problem while in Boston - I feel certain your vehicle will be well taken care of by Hannibal's. Also, just FYI - there was a BBB notice on the wall, dated December 2017, showing no customer complaints or negative reviews in the previous 3 years.
