This was an administrative issue, but how it was handled is where I became frustrated. On March 26th, they said they would bill the correct insurance. I checked my insurance portal to make sure the claim was registered for 3 weeks, and never saw it populate. I reached back out on April 16th to check on the status because I didn't see it on the insurance side at all. In an email correspondence on April 16th, I was told that they billed the correct insurance on March 26th, but that she would resubmit it to make sure. Coincidentally, I finally saw the claim registered on the portal and then received the EOB in the mail on April 29th. I emailed them on the 29th to let them know that I received my copy of the EOB and asked for the timeline and process of getting a refund for the overpayment. I did not hear back. I emailed again on May 5th to follow up -- again, no reply. I called on May 6th, and as told, everything was still pending. I let the lady know that I am showing that payment was issued. She said their insurance person would review and call me back the next day. I waited all day, the next day, and again ... no call back. I called them at 1pm to follow up because I knew they closed soon, and was told the insurance person went to run an errand and would be back within an hour. I waited by the phone for 2 hours until their closing time to receive the phone call, and you guessed it ... no phone call again. It wasn't until I reached out to my dental insurance company to help with my money being held with no response from Tolley. I finally was able to get assistance and speak with a manager. There was little to no accountability, and I was told repeatedly that they ignored my requests for calls/emails because they had no information to share. Communication was the root of this issue and continued to perpetuate it throughout the past month. They continued to stand by their reasoning of not answering my emails/calls. I am disappointed as I changed my insurance specifically to become a patient here, and while the medical team was phenomenal, the front desk team and leadership of the practice is lacking basic customer service skills.

I have been a patient of Dr. Dickson's at Virginia Dental Implant Institute for a number of years…read morenow. The way I found him was by referral from Dr. Radwa Sobieh, DDS MS at Winchester Dental Studio. I needed Dental Implants. Eight of them. So, I have spent a lot of time in Dr. Dickson's office getting them over the past years. I have found Dr. Dickson and his staff to be highly professional. The first thing you notice when you go into the office is how impeccable it looks. Very modern, clean with everything in its place. They have a very comfortable waiting area however with me I have not used it much because I seem to get into the dental chair normally within minutes of my appointment time. They manage their time very well The ladies are all skilled and very friendly. Dr. Dickson is all business. He will spend a little time socializing with you but, he always seems to have his mind on what he is doing and is not much on chit chat. Dr. Dickson is an award-winning practitioner and has many of his accomplishments and recognitions on the walls of the practice. I have had implants placed by another dentist in Winchester which failed in a very short period of time. The ones I have now implanted by Dr. Dickson are sturdy and are working out so far very nicely. The practice has me in once a year just to check the implants to ensure there are no problems without additional cost. The one thing that made my decision initially to allow Dr. Dickson to handle my procedures was he warranties the implants. Actually, I couldn't believe that when I was first told that because the last Dentist that put in two that failed actually laughed at me when I asked him about a warranty on the implants as if I was stupid for asking. I have never suffered any pain while in the chair experiencing the work. Dr. Dickson will prescribe a medication to take 45 minutes prior to the appointment and that puts me in a place where I really don't have any conception of where I am or how long the procedures are taking. Of course, injections for numbness are given also to prevent pain. He does not offer inhalation gas during the procedures. He is big on x-rays as it seems each time, I am there he is having it done. He also has equipment that I've never seen before, so he is also big on using the newest technology. Even Dr. Dickson with all his experience and knowledge once had to consult with another specialist because of how my mouth was as if I remember correctly because of just something that was a millimeter or so off, so he consulted with someone in his field about how to proceed with the work. That impressed me that he wasn't so egotistical to proceed without making certain that things were going to be just right. Everyone at the practice has empathy for the patients and it's actually a pleasure to be treated there. I feel that I'm always going to get straight answers from Dr. Dickson. He doesn't sugar coat anything and is straight forward with you. Now about cost. OMG if you are considering dental implants get ready for the pain in your bank account. It's worse than the procedures. Dental insurance covers very little. I won't mention how much money I have in my mouth, but you know, you get what you pay for. Having a smile and being able to eat is something most everyone doesn't think about and takes for granted until you can't do either one. The last implants I had were my front teeth and it was such an embarrassment not being able to properly talk or be comfortable around people because you are conscious about how you look. So, prosthesis's is necessary to solve that problem. What a pain in the ass that is. Implants are not something that you get in one visit either. The last ones I had took 11 months to complete. This ensures everything properly heals and is ready for crowns. Mine took this amount of time also because bone grafts were required in my case. The one and only thing I have noticed over the years is Dr. Dickson sometimes is in a mood and has been curt with his technicians in front of me during procedures. It's only happened twice but has made me feel sorry and uncomfortable for them being barked at in front of me. It's because I think the Doctor is a perfectionist and expects everyone and everything to be exact. I guess it's a good thing that he is precision oriented and expects things to be done a certain way and for tools to be ready and available when they are needed. In conclusion, don't believe these advertisements you see on television about having implants in one day. I don't know how people get away with telling people that. I don't hesitate a minute to recommend Dr. Dickson. It appears that doing these implants is really a craft that the practitioners have to dedicate themselves to in order to be successful with performing implantations. Dr. Dickson's Virginia Dental Implant Institute is definitely where you want to go.

One of the most unprofessional dental practices I've ever encountered. I changed insurance…read moreproviders the first of the year and when I went to see the dentist, they recommended numerous procedures for me. Three of these procedures required prior approval, which I had informed them of at my first appointment. They assured me they would get the prior approvals for all three procedures and it was not a problem. I agreed to have the work done based on their assurance of obtaining the prior approvals that were needed. After each procedure, they showed me what my insurance would pay and what I was responsible for. I found out later that they showed me their full cost for the procedures and not the cost agreed to with my insurance company since they are in network, which makes those costs significantly lower. They then required that I pay the inflated out-of-pocket costs before the insurance payments were made to them. When the insurance claims came back three of the procedures were denied due to not obtaining prior approval. Meanwhile, they had over $2500 of my money which I should not have been required to pay due to their mistake. They have since been filing numerous appeals with my insurance company to no avail. The claims are repeatedly denied yet they continue to file appeals and refuse to refund any of my money. I filed a grievance with my insurance company, which apparently does not do a whole lot of good since even though they denied the claims, they still seem to be on the side of the dental office. They apparently have no authority to require the practice to refund any money. I advise you to avoid this dental office at all costs, since they seem to only care about getting as much money out of a person as they possibly can, then accept no responsibility for their costly mistakes. I have switched dental offices and will never give Winchester Dental Care the opportunity to rip me off again. Don't let them do the same to you!

For everyone who is interested in coming here makes sure there's no hidden fee in advance…read more One of the ladies (dental assistant?) at the front desk typed something on her phone and showed it to one of receptionists. And then the receptionist told us (We felt she was afraid to say it. Because the first paperwork she asked us to sign with $0 cost) that they would charge us $75 as consulting fee. The consulting fee can be waived if we choose to have our treatment done. However we had been told that they have no time to do the treatment. They had next appointment coming soon. When we made the appointment, we clearly told the front desk what we need: quote for making two small teeth bigger (Veneer or Resin Filling). The front desk told us that we needed to see a doctor in order to give us a quote. No one told us that if you want to get this so-called quote, it would cost $75. The receptionist who made the appointment didn't tell us. The receptionist who confirmed the appointment didn't tell us. The dental assistant who welcomed us in didn't tell us. I think the money was charged when my wife said she wanted to consider when the next appointment would be and gave them call back. The reason why we were there is because my wife's orthodontist (from the other institution) only offered Invisalign and braces. My wife wants to have her teeth filling before going back to the orthodontist so that he can order retainer for her. Her appointment with the orthodontist is two weeks later. She thought it would be better to have teeth done the day before seeing the orthodontist. That was why we did not decide to have teeth done right after they gave us quotes. Because they were going to charge for "consulting fee", we chose to have teeth resin ($333 for one tooth resin, $1000 or so for one tooth veneer) instead. Then they said they had no time! When we questioned about $75 (we obviously could tell they came up with the price out of blue: employees communicated with each other through cellphone), they knew it was their mistake not to mention the fee before we met with dr. Hall. When we told them that we felt uncomfortable with paying the fee in which they didn't notify us in advance. The receptionist reported our concern to dr. Hall. When the receptionist came back, she said we had been given a discount on the resin filling fee ($333 for per tooth resin). It supposed to be $1000. Before we visited here, my wife's orthodontist already told her resin fillings for each tooth probably cost $300. Does this so-called discount have anything to do with the $75 they charged? We paid it anyway at the end. Basically we paid it for the dentist's precious 10-15 minutes for quotes. If they let us know in the first place and didn't give us excuses, we wouldn't be so upset.
