They hand you a random piece of paper charging $500 for a 20 minute appointment without any sort of itemization. Number two, the standard of care here was very disappointing. I was referred here due to a previous procedure that failed and I had a difficult time getting a straight and consistent recommendation on treatment options. It become very clear to me the surgeon Proothi was more concerned with not making his buddies in the field look bad rather than providing me the clarity I deserved as a paying patient. Day of surgery, same thing waited 40 after my appointment time for the dr to finally come in. Post surgery they were supposed to send medicine to my pharmacy and never did. Two weeks later at my check up appt they ask about my medicine to which I replied that they hadn't sent it and said they would right away but again, never did. I walk in and speak to the office manager. I tell her I have great dental plan, can I come to the Koeppel Dental Group? Middle Island is so far for me to drive and, wait a second! Is that fresh baked cookies I smell? The office manager is looking at my insurance and explains that the Koeppel Dental Group is a private dentist practice. If you need oral surgery or a crown replaced, the Koeppel Dental Group is ready to assist. But, I can make sure that we will clean your teeth and use my insurance. How awesome is that? Here's the dad review. Just say you live 100+ miles away from Stony Brook and your child is going to the college. If they need any type of dental work, I highly recommend the Koeppel Dental Group. Dishonest and Disingenuous!!! I was quoted a rate of $575 for my son's tooth extraction, including…read moreX-rays and a consultation. I agreed and brought my son in the very next day. Not having dental insurance, I was paying out of pocket. Upon arriving, they examined him, took X-rays and while doing so asked me if I wanted to see "the estimate." I thought it was a strange question as they previously conveyed the price, but I said "sure." Upon examining the estimate, as four staff members looked on (stared) as I did so, I thought that was in itself curious. Then I learned why. To my surprise the quote was over $1000.00 --as they labeled it a "difficult" extraction. When I questioned what made it over $400 worth of difficult, they had no answers. When I pressed why it wasn't $650.00 difficult or $750 difficult or any variation thereof, they looked as puzzled and confused as I was. I promptly collected my son and left -- having lost all faith and trust in them. What a shame!!! Oh, they did of course insist I pay them $225.00 for the consult and X-rays. I wrote the check unwillingly and asked that they forward the X-rays to my long time dentist-- who does not do oral surgery. I won't be going back to this place, and I suggest you save yourself a trip as well...
