I wrote an email asking for a specific piece of siding with specific dimensions in hardiplank…read moreinstead of masonite., and got a response that said "we have all the standard sizes of hardieplank in stock now" from Dean Apparently it was MY mistake to take that as an affirmative response, because when I drove an hour out of my way to go pick up the board with those dimensions they told me that they only has hardieboard not hardieplank, that it would never work in place of masonite, they didn't have that size in wood either and when I showed them their own email from an hour previous Dean raised his voice and said "I said Standard Sizes!" Apparently he couldn't be bothered to read two whole sentences of email and only read the one half of the word "hardie" and I was supposed to understand that he had disregarded the rest of it. Listen: Maybe if you are a builder or something that is going to buy 2000 board feet they will give you the time of day. But even then I wouldn't want to support their dishonesty. As an individual: Avoid!

You have to slow down and look at each item individually, or you can zip right past something cool in the scanning process. But it's nice to be able to actually see and feel a product before ordering it online, so it's worth the effort. The staff was busy at the counter with other customers, so it was hard to get help that day beyond a friendly greeting. But I did find out that they have far more options available online than what is displayed there. Prices, barring a sale, range from mid to high. I didn't find anything that called out to me that day, and I didn't have time to deal with online ordering, but I'll definitely check them out in advance for future projects. No appointment necessary, and they do have weekend hours.

Trying to keep a positive outlook, I walked into the store despite wanting to flee for my life. I kept thinking it would get better as I made my way through the store. Most businesses display their newest and best stuff at the entrance so that wasn't a good indicator but I was trying to keep a positive attitude. There were a few fixtures that might have been okay but mostly it was chrome chrome chrome. Just because an item has a 1k price tag doesn't mean it is good. I can say the store is clean because it would have to be with all that seizure inducing chrome. There is an elevated area in the back of the store with ceiling fans and garage sale style foldable tables upon which was junk for sale. I wish it wasn't junk but when you look at what appears to be stick on light strips, really what else can it be called? That was the entire store. Their "sale" from February was called their "Love Sale" which is pretty cringe-worthy. Positives: Store is clean Staff is friendly They have Saturday hours.

My compressor fan motor started screeching. A quick internet search indicated the fan motor should…read morebe replaced and doing so was fairly easy. I pulled the old motor off to get the amperage and RPMs, but then had trouble finding someone that would sell me a replacement. I finally found these guys and the price of the motor seemed very reasonable (1/4 HP, 1075 RPM, $65 + tax). They cautioned me to ensure power was off and to take pictures of the wiring, both of which I had already done, but I appreciated them giving the advice. Word of advice: I got the AC back up and working with only one hitch, the fan rotation was wrong. I noticed it felt hot while standing next to it and didn't think that was normal, a quick internet search confirmed it. The motor was turning the wrong way, blowing air down and into the compressor unit instead of up and out. A bad capacitor will apparently cause the motor to turn in the wrong direction, but in my case, the motor is reversible and I just had to swap the yellow and black wires.

He completed it overnight and let me know that I could pick it up at his shop or he could ship it to me for a reasonable shipping fee. I picked it up less than 24 hours after ordering it! Wow, talk about customer service and exceeding expectations! I had the wonderful opportunity to see his amazing shop, meet his wife and marvel at the creative and beautiful items he and his wife and family are making. Further searching brought me to the cutting boards where I fell in love with a chaos design putting together so many different shapes into a beautiful puzzle. The guy working the counter said the turnaround time was 1 week but could take 2 weeks. I called them today to check on the status of the drill and the guy who took my phone call was incredibly rude. He asked for my ticket number and I told him unfortunately I didn't have it with me. His reply was an audible sigh. After searching for my info he said that warranty work hadn't been started yet. So I asked if he could provide me an ETA for the repair and he replied "what does it matter, it's free to you". This guy apparently doesn't realize that these tools are how people make their money. If I need any tools or repair work in the future I will go somewhere else.

After 100 years, a family heirloom carpet has been restored!…read more I kept my great-grandmother's 9 x 14 rug in a closet for 25 years because I didn't know what to do with it. It was too big for my dining room, had wavey marks across the entire rug from being improperly stored and my husband didn't like it. Then I called Wooden Looms Rug Gallery. Mike, one of two brothers and a wife who owns Wooden Looms listened to my carpet's story and had the knowledge, skill and vision to restore its beauty. Knowledge: Although my husband felt the rug was dingy and worn, Mike inspected the rug and was able to reassure him that it wasn't worn and would no longer be dingy after a good washing. Mike identified the rug as a Chinese Art Deco rug, a valued antique in California. My great grandmother acquired it in the 1920's when a tenant moved out of her apartment building in San Francisco and left it behind. Skill: Mike and his brother Sam carefully measured the rug and calculated how they could cut it in order to save its beautiful floral designs in the corners. The rug had a scruffy old fringe. After cutting the rug, Mike unknotted enough of the rug's 100 year old warp threads to knot by hand a beautiful new fringe. What an amazing skill to have here in Austin! Vision: Mike could see that I loved that old rug. He helped my husband see its value and potential. Mike and Sam delivered the beautiful old rug to our house Monday night and it is perfect. I stopped into Affordable and met Dickey. Not only was he very knowledgeable, he was a really nice guy too. I picked out what I wanted and he got me scheduled. Pedro and Dino showed up a few minutes early and built this little shed beautifully in 3 hours. They were really nice, very professional and did a great job. I'm very pleased. Now I have get off my butt and clean out the garage (which was the whole point of this shed). Highly recommended!

After stopping by their spot on 290 and meeting with Dickey, we decided to have them build a 10x12 shed with taller walls so that we can eventually finish out the space to be an office. We also had it built with larger doors for this purpose. There were some delays with construction due to weather but once we were scheduled, everything happened on-time. The 2 men who came to build were impressive--watching the shed go up in just 1 day was amazing. They double-checked all of the decisions we had made in advance, before moving forward with building. They did a great job cleaning up when they were finished too. We are SO so happy with our purchase and highly recommend Affordable Portable.
