I recently went to purchase a new Kia at Hanson Kia olympia and had an amazing experience! I wasn't sure how it was going to go as I had a 0 credit score. I'm not one to finance anything, I don't do credit cards, going into it I expected to be turned down, I didn't want to get my hopes up to be disappointed and also feared I wouldn't be treated well. After spending 20 years in the service departments and dealing with many warranty companies I am overwhelmed with Kia (Hanson) being the worst service department. When your vehicle is under warranty and you used to run a Kia service department you would think you would'nt tell a customer there is a diagnostic fee. Until the warranty is out or you can prove in some way there has been tampering dont start off with that statement. This is what you use.. Sir I see you are under warranty and we will be happy to take care of the issue you are having. I had no problem buying my Forester. It's due for first service. So I called for an appointment and they said not needed, there's no waiting. I pull up and the service guy ignores me. I got out of my car and passed the service guy several times walking around and he didn't even give me the "I'll be with you in a minute." He kept his head down, didn't even look up. I asked for help from two service guys at their desks chewing the fat and they referred me back to ignore man. I asked to speak to the manager and was told he is in another building. I finally got the attention of the service rep and he told me there were five cars in front of me. So why don't they take appointments? I will go to Tumwater Automotive. Had a power steering pump and pulley noise on start-up with my Kia Sedona van. Had the pump replaced twice at another shop - both times the pump/pulley assembly acted up after the repair and the second time it actually fell out (the pump) while driving down I-5. Decided to go to the dealership (Hansen's) to have it fixed. Yes it was more expensive, but was done totally correct this time. Subaru owners beware! Avoid taking your car there for service. We brought in our 2017 Touring Outback car for service, under warranty and was charged a diagnostic fee for a service covered under warranty. They also wanted to charge me $400++for brakes to be replaced, when it falls under Subaru's wear and tear 36,000 mile warranty. I brought in my car for the 30,000 mile service and they also did not cover the wiper blades which fall under the warranty. I left there paying $500 for an oil change and tire force balance. I worked with a tech named Scott who was a borderline bully, rude and not well informed with what is covered under the 2017 Subaru warranty. We reached out via email to the service manager, Andrew who has yet responded to our questions on what exactly we paid for and what exactly was covered under warranty. I never ever thought that a Subaru dealership would double dip and treat their clients this way. We are going to file with BBB and write the State Attorney General, and continue with our reviews. We are a military family who has served for over 20 years to include 8 deployments, and this the worst service we have ever received. If Hanson Motors allow their staff to take advantage of their customers in the service department, then I would not purchase a car from them either. read more

Seeing the postings and rating I was leery about even going in. I could not have been more surprised or pleased with the experience. I was involved with three sales people...Gary, Mike and Scott. They were uniformly pleasant, helpful, knowledgeable and respectful. Absolutely no pushing or hurry up to get a deal done pressure. They found the car I wanted, gave me an acceptable deal and a low, but fair (after some bartering) offer on my trade in. I've purchased many new cars over the years and understand how the game works. I knew my numbers, the product, the prices at the competitors and the value of my trade-in. Hanson has two brands at this location...Kia and Subaru. I note many of the low ratings come from the Kia side. Advice: Before you go in to any dealer know your numbers, treat the sales people with respect because the person making the decision is someone else, know your product, don't show eagerness or fear and above all, don't be afraid to walk because there is always another day, product or dealership. read more

Brought our Forester for oil change and recommended tire rotation on Monday, September 12, 2016. They provided us a checklist of everything they serviced and charged us for, to include the tires were properly inflated. The following day, our low tire pressure light comes on. We bring our Forester back to the service desk, they were not apologetic, just said, oh well, it happens! I originally bought a 2013 Subaru Impreza from this dealership in Olympia. I thought, WOW these people are amazing! They helped me with picking the perfect car. They were super helpful and awesome with the buying aspect. Then it came to working in my car. When I had purchased my Subaru back in February 2019 there was a Tire pressure sensor light that was on. They told me if it does not go off to come back and that they would fix it. Well I came back about a week later and they told me they needed to talk with someone from sales. Well after 6 months of playing telephone back and fourth I'm not only dealing with my tire pressure sensor still, But now a blown up clutch. Now I may look like I don't know what I am talking about, but I can assure you that I do. I know that a clutch does not go from working perfectly normal to not being able to shift into any gears. I had originally purchased and extra warranty, but as far as I have learned... what is the point of that when it won't cover a damn thing? My biggest issue here is the communication. I have went in to this store on multiple occasions to talk with Scott Michael, Frank Kersul , and a few other managers and suddenly they have "gone home" for the day or are "in a meeting". I have sent emails to frank and the sales gentleman who sold me the car, both have never emailed me back.. And I have even gone as far to switch my schedule at work and set up a time and go out of my way to go in and talk with Scott Michael, I get there and he had left the office for a day. My biggest issue here is the terrible communication. I have been trying to talk with someone about getting my TPS light fixed since FEBRUARY! It's a bit ridiculous especially since y'all told me you would fix that issue and here I am months later still dealing with that on top of a blown up clutch. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!!! I was shopping for a Subaru Impreza, and had visited Subaru of Puyallup, and contacted Subaru of Auburn. Both dealerships had been very helpful, and Auburn had been very honest and transparent in their pricing. I put a request in my employee car buying service, "True Car", and also through the Costco buying service. Hanson Subaru contacted me on a Friday with a lower price and a promise of less taxes paid (9.0 in Olympia, vs 9.8 in Pierce County). Chris Miller in the Internet Dept. told me they could order a car for me. I called on Sunday to follow up, and Chris said, "That car is no longer available, but I'll look again, and call you back." More than 2 hours later, I called HIM back, and he said, "Sorry- I got busy with someone else- the car is available again." This sounded fishy to me, and was really poor customer service. I went in the next day to negotiate a price on my trade in and put down a deposit. On Kelly Blue Book, my 1995 Toyota Camry was worth $400-$700, and I was hoping to get $500. Chris only offered my $200, and said, "We wish you hadn't brought this in- it will cost us more than $200 to get rid of it!" I found that insulting, since it was in good shape (and I saw them putting a sign in the window to sell it as I was leaving!). He said, "Are you ready to sign?" I said, "The one thing I wanted was a cargo tray to protect the trunk area." At Subaru.com, the tray retails for $81, and I knew this. He pulled out a fake price list of all the upgrades, and the cargo tray was $98! Since he gouged me on my trade in, the least he could do is throw in a cargo tray! He pulled the old, "I have to run this by my sales manager" bit, came back with a price of $68, telling me that was their COST! B.S.!! $68 was the retail price at their Service department!. I just stared at him- he finally gave in, telling me how upset his sales manager would be. Shouldn't he be worried about upsetting and disrespecting a customer??? And this ridiculous drama took about 20 minutes! I put down the deposit and signed the contract, and as I left, he yelled out, "Keep all four wheels on the pavement!" This may have been cute to say to a 19 year old boy, but as a 55 year old woman, I thought it was sarcastic and insulting. Coming back for the car a few days later, thankfully, Chris Miller was not in. Don Bauer was helpful and patient with signing the papers and picking up the new car. I told him about my experience with Chris, and he was apologetic, but didn't seemed surprised. Perhaps this is their "Good cop/Bad cop Strategy". Just had to reach an agreement on price. Online advertised price was $24,164 and they refused to lower it a dime and then gave an enormous amount of additude toward us for trying. Bought a 2009 Hyundai Sonata limited here about 3 years ago and was not pleased by the experience. My car has been absolutely wonderful. 0 problems the entire time I've had it. However, the salesman(who was new at the time) said he could get me a GREAT deal on this car that was listed at 13K and long story short we only got it down about 1K( making it just above 12K). His boss actually came out a few times during the negotiation and told me if I wasn't willing to pay his final offer than it's not the car for me because he "was not going to drop the price any lower even though I loved it because then he wouldn't be getting anything out of the deal" he was rude the entire time to my mother and I and seemed entirely unwilling to help us out. The only reason I paid the 12K was because I absolutely loved the car and I was young and dumb. He was also extremely rude to the salesman helping us out. As we signed papers he made absolutely no small talk and made it seem as if we were wasting his time. In the 3 years I've owned this car they never called to check up on me to see how I was liking it or anything at all. I will never look on this lot again or buy from Hanson as that left an extreme sour taste in my mouth. read more

Hanson was the worst place I have ever worked. The managers are all liars who would terrorize you and harass you constantly. They're super rude and unprofessional and manipulate you into whatever they want you to believe. They would promise you a raise or a higher position, but would never follow up with it. I got harassed about scores all the time and threatened to be fired over it, even though I did what was in my power to help the scores. They do not care for you as human beings, they look at you as numbers that are easily replaceable. Their expectations kept on growing more and more as time went on, and couldn't keep enough staff to accommodate that. So me being the only lot attendant took an extreme mental and physical toll on me. It was very overwhelming for no reason other than they couldn't manage anything and expected the responsible employees to take care of it.They also would be super sneaky about hours and try to manipulate it for their benefit. Hanson is somewhere that slackers get praised and the hard workers aren't compensated for their work. I was put on standby back in March due to Covid-19, and was told I'd be returning within a few months. A few months passed and no word --- when I contacted the GM, I was ignored (a commons occurrence whenever you try to contact any management about an issue). So more time went on, finally I got a response telling me to not worry and that I will be coming back. Then I received a letter in the mail about how to transfer my 401K after termination. Which seemed odd to me because I thought I was coming back. I then contacted my manager and he responded simply with "your position had been terminated." No other reason, just that. Super unprofessional. I am thankful to be gone though and will never look back. read more

He coordinated the car delivery and kept us informed along the way, as the car we wanted had to be traded for at another dealer. After looking at the other reviews, I admit to a little skepticism about approaching service, but we're already set up for the first one a few months down the road, so we'll see! Penny was organized and pleasant as we went through all the paperwork in the Finance area. Worst car dealership on the west coast. This sales team is filled with very unprofessional employees that have no morals. I bought a 08 wrx in February, it is now almost August and I have replaced the clutch, fly wheel, valve cover, a/c compressor and a few other smaller things. These have been replaced by a certified ASE mechanic whose has amazing reviews and very clean work. To make it worse my engine blew yesterday. To fix it I have been quoted from a few places and all of them say I will have to drop more than six grand to fix the car. I have already dropped 4k on mechanical issues and still owe on my loan. They assured me this was a good car and things had been replaced and were in good condition, they also said they would give me the inspection sheet to prove it. After one week I called and they said they would send it. Tried again after one month and nothing. Then the mechanical problems started happening and asked again and nothing. Then I visited the location again and spoke with my rep and the sales manager both were disrespectful and attacked my intelligence. My sales rep is just as incompetent. He has the vocabulary of a small child, such as bro and dude. Come on, you are a business salesmen. All in all I called again today and they said they don't keep records so they now have no proof any work was done. I will continue to call until I get a answer if they can find it. Do not buy from these unprofessional salesmen they will ruin your life and put you in debt. I did make the mistake to trust a used car and will take ownership in that. They literally raised the price over $2,000 while the car was being driven down from Skagit County. Apparently this is legal. But it is still totally dishonest and horrible customer relations. We went through the Costco Program and delt directly with a Costco salesperson. During this visit we had a 2000 RX 300 Lexus we needed to trade in. Right off, he said could only give us $500.00 for the trade in when KB rated it as dealer average at between $2,300 - $3,200. They also ran our credit knowing that we would need to think about this purchase. He came up on the trade in to $1,500. We thanked him and said we would think about it. This was on 2/28/15. We decided to just wait until the wheels fells off. Unfortunately, the trans. died on 3/16/15 so we didn't have a trade in. We went back to this salesperson on 3/19/15 and decided on a 2015 Forester. We said we need to make sure we can cover the down pymt. And would call him the next morning(3/20/15). He stated that the window tinting was $300.00 and would only take a couple of hours. We called back the next morning at 8:00 and gave him a deposit of $500.00 to cover the window tinting and to hold the Forester as we were going to drive an hour each way to come pick it up on a Friday afternoon. He agreed that the car would be done and ready. We call him at 2:00 to say we were leaving Puyallup and would be there in an hour. We get there ready to write a check and have our dog with us. He says to us, sorry they weren't able to do the window tinting and that we'd need to drive back down to Olympia again (remember this was our third trip down there in traffic) next week to have the tinting done! SERIOUSLY!!! We stood up and before leaving we asked him why he didn't give us the professional courtesy of a call or at least tell us at 2:00 to let us know the vehicle wasn't done. We left and called Costco Advocates Program and explained what happened to us and encouraged them to take this dealership off of their list. we were given the name of WALKER's Subaru and drive directly there and purchased our new Forester (for less money!). The process was straightforward, all the details were explained, and every question I asked (and there were many) received an answer. Stopped by for a quick oil change and check-up before a long road trip. After service completed, the Tech told me they found a nail in the tire, but they didn't have time to fix it (45 minutes before closing). They were full up, and if I could bring the car back in two days and leave it all day they can get to it. It wasn't leaking and he said maybe they could just pull it out and it would be okay. I am changing my rating of Hanson Kia. My first experience was in April 2014. I went through the Costco program and got very good service. Was quoted a price over the phone and got exactly what i wanted. Three weeks later, I took my son in to buy a car. James tried to him into a USED car, even though he knew we wanted new.They finally double-teemed us and sent Sly in. His name is true to his nature, apparently. They asked him what it would take for him to want this used car, and he told him he wanted new because of the 10 year warranty. (BE AWARE THAT WHEN YOU BUY USED, THE WARRANTIES ARE CUT IN HALF!) Sly said they would throw in the warranty, so my son agreed. AFTER we signed the papers, Sly handed us a key- ONE key. We asked him about another and he said "Oh, I only saw the one but don't worry, we get those in all the time, I can get you another!" Well, we have called, and even went in and talked to a manager who promised that we would get a call back the next day. That was 3 weeks ago. We checked with Hyundai and it will cost almost $500 for a replacement key for that car. I feel that Hanson should pay, as they PROMISED it to us. The ONLY reason I am giving them 3 stars (my previous review was 5) is because I thought I had such a good experience the first time, otherwise it would be 1. I was going to take my daughter there to buy a car but after they treated my son, she wants nothing to do with them. I purchased a new Subaru from Hanson in June. There was a defect with the windshield, and I was given the run around between the salesman and the service manager. The salesman said he had no authority to have the windshield replaced, and directed me to the service manager, who never returned my phone messages. I was very patient and polite with them...and all I wanted was for them to make it right. I also spoke with Rob Little, the service manager, and showed him the defects. They absolutely refused to do anything to fix the problem. I've already directed two friends who were about to buy new Subarus away from Hanson. One bought theirs in Port Orchard, the other in Puyallup. DO NOT BUY FROM HANSON SUBARU IF YOU HAVE ANY EXPECTATION FOR FAIR SERVICE. read more

The salesman there were very pushy when it came to me buying my car. I had never bought a new car before and when i drove up I did not think I was going to be driving home a brand new car that night. It wasn't until months later that I learned, and still regret, the "options" they added onto my car at my cost. Look if the factory didn't put it on, then it probably should not get installed on your car. Unless it's tint. I was in and out quick on a purchase in fact it was a smooth deal until lots of problems began to happen. The car they sold which I was told had a good clean Carfax they didn't have at the moment but could get for me was never sent. Car seemed excellent on test drive. When I needed to trade it in only 6 months later I was told it had been in a collision with another vehicle back in 2010. The car had an alignment issue due to that accident and several other annoyances like loud squeaks that developed. They were nice it seemed but very dishonest. I enjoyed their office and paintings they sell for artists but I'd never go back not unless we were provided up front carfaxes on the car or a return policy if they promise a car fax and state its clean on the history but find out it has accident history. I went to their neighbor and bought a new car after only having the car since January 2013. It lasted 7-8 months. I loved the car too but it was just too unsafe for my newborn daughter to be in. read more

If I could give this company zero starts, I would. I do not recommend anyone taking their car to Hanson Subaru of Olympia when it needs work; your money would be better spent somewhere else. My husband dropped his Subaru STI off on 2/17/17, and we still have yet to get it back. The initial cost was going to be $650, which was fine for his wheel baring and caliper to be replaced. We decided to get a quote on his turbo, and they stated it would be $1000 because the turbo didn't need to be replaced (the master technician working on his car informed my husband of this). Come to find out, the car needs a new turbo, so our new cost is $3100, and the car will be finished 3/3/2017. Keep in mind, we were a little upset, but what needs to be done, needs to be done. Well, my husband received another phone call from the company this morning stating it'll be another $300 to have the intake taken off (which they should've quoted originally, but didn't). Our total is now close to $3500 PLUS tax, which in the end will be over $2000 more than what we were originally quoted for the caliper, wheel baring and turbo. My husband is a technician/mechanic at a dealership in Puyallup, and the reason he didn't fix his car himself was because he didn't want to have to work on his own vehicle when that's what he does all day long when we could afford to pay someone else to do it.
