Wow wow wow. I don't think I've ever had actual breakfast food before until eating here. Got recommended to stop here by a local antler shop near by. I stopped in and was greeted warmly and sat where I liked. Very cool atmosphere with a lot of history. Exactly the type of breakfast spot you think it is in a smaller town. Kind of a fun little throw back place. The waitress was friendly and attentive and loved the vibe of the place. Had breakfast here and it was okay. Nothing special, hard to screw up breakfast though. The coffee was nothing to write home about, I like a good strong coffee and this was just hmmm. My biggest gripe was the biscuits and gravy. Northerners have no idea how to make a good gravy, it's not just this place, but it tastes like nothing. I love biscuits and gravy but there are few places I have found in the north that actually make a gravy worth eating, this is not one of those places Check out the place though, it is cute and you can sit at the counter like the old days and reminisce. read more

Super cute small town joint, with a motel next door. We were here for the day/night at a bnb within walking distance. Friendly employees. Prices are excellent. Food was tasty. We had an early dinner and breakfast the next day. My kid proclaimed her French toast the BEST. She wants to drive back through this town just for it. read more

I love staying at old motels. They have character unlike the chain ones. This is a great slice of Americana with an added cafe to boot and only 59.00 I would rate it a 4 if there had been blinds or full curtains on the windows and there weren't old stains on the sheets and the carpet was kind of gross-but they do allow dogs..which may explain the carpet. Walls are thin & neighbors were up late-but AC blocked the noise. Mattress comfortable And great regional wine tasting across the street. Good burgers at cafe also. In 2016 I was driving cross-country to a new job and new life, helping my family escape Portland, moving to Dallas TX. This lovely little place was my 1st stop on the way. Truthfully, it was and remains the single BEST night's sleep I have ever had driving long distance. Comfy bed, warm room, nice little downtown space to walk about for a bit after being stuck in a car for 500miles, and all the rest. A nice bar a block away that mixed my favorite drink, and all was well. THe next day, I had a delicious breakfast and excellent coffee, and I was on my way. I did not have a single night's sleep the rest of the trip that was half as good as the night I spent at Hanson's. Kind folks, great place, great food, and [most important!] a great price! If I ever drive cross country again, I just might try to map my route so that I'll go through Glen's Ferry & have an excuse to spend a night or two here again. :) read more

If you like old fashioned atmosphere this is your place. If you insist on shiny and glitzy this is not your place. Hanson's is right out the 40's or 50's. The decor, the menu, the help the clientele. Its very honest and genuine. The food is the same, basic, down home, honest, old school. If you are hungry for down home old fashioned food this is you place. Its very old fashioned but I like the honesty. I'd go again. Just don't expect a latte or quiche-- order the pancakes or bacon and eggs. read more

On a visit with a friend we decided to try this place. We'd told not to try them but figured we'd give them a chance instead of going off the opinion of someone else. My friend went to order, asked for the Piggyback Overload with chips on the side. It's not premade so I was very confused why they looked at me with a scowled face and they meanly asked "How would I do that?" She asked that they make it normally but without chips, and place them on the side. The person then rolled their eyes and show shook their head, very obviously annoyed. We stopped here for breakfast and weren't disappointed in our breakfast sausage (the patties are a little spicier and better than the links fyi), eggs (scrambled and over medium), hash browns (crispy and perfect), pancakes and French toast (perfection). I think my grandma was in the kitchen cooking that up for us! Coffee strong and hot (good stuff). And for ambience, consider a table by the front door where a couple of American heroes greet you and remind you what a great country we live in! read more

I've been in glenns ferry now over a month have heard nothing but good about Hanson's Cafe finally had a chance to visit this morning but most unfortunately it did not live up to anything I've heard. I ordered biscuits and gravy for $8 it was a starchy watery mess this was to go I received no napkins no silverware. I also ordered a double bacon cheeseburger called the trail Burger asked specifically that all condiments be on the side as I am allergic to tomatoes all the condiments were on the burger itself and the other request was that it would cut in half I don't think this would have bothered me so much if when I called I had been given some sort of compensation or asked to return it for a better product but all I received was a misunderstanding and offer for more tomato and then and I'm sorry. It's amazing to find gems like this place in rural towns. I was on a road trip and absolutely exhausted. I needed a place to stay and was going to be ok with any terrible place. I'm SO glad I stumbled into this place. The rooms are clean and don't smell. The owners were extremely friendly and nice. They also have the cutest and most energetic boxer. That cutie should be their mascot. Definitely recommend this place for anyone that is in the area. read more

Home fries are good and they make their own sweet tea which is decent. The lunch/dinner menu is all about fried, breaded foods. Hubby had the lunch soup special with sandwich and "dessert" was included. A dollop of red jello in a plastic cup that still had the mfg label and red discount price sticker on the bottom. What a lucky find! A real old-school diner in a classic Oregon Trail town. The Formica is worn away under each place setting at the counter and the walls are decorated with bits and pieces of pioneer memorabilia. Great burgers made of local ground beef and hand cut fries made of "famous potatoes." We also sampled fresh potato salad with crisp dill pickle--just the right balance of creaminess and chunks of those potatoes--with a patty melt on perfectly grilled whole wheat with expertly grilled onions. stopped by here while travelling across S Idaho. I used to eat here 30 years ago when my friend lived in this town and remembered about them. Had a burger made with local beef and it was delicious. Hand formed patty, good fat slice of onion and tomato. Just like you would make at home. Very friendly waitress and definite old school vibe. I enjoy that better than new. We had a great meal here. They Serve breakfast all day. My husband had a great 1/2 pound burger; best we've had in a while. My club sandwich was perfect. The fries here hand cut, with sauce of course. All the salads were iceberg lettuce, as I'd expect but you don't come here for rabbit food. It is very quiet inside. I was coming through on Sunday, nothing is open in the town except the bar portion of this place. After realizing there was nothing open, I called ahead and the gentleman was very accommodating. He offer to make me something. I told him I had children to feed so he offered to cook it and bring it out to my car and that he did. I am so impressed. My daughter said it was the best ham er she ever had. That's saying a lot coming from her. Especially since she eats only hamburgers and was starting to get sick of them. read more

My husband, who drives for a living and stays at hotels or motels 2-3 weeks per month, found himself in this small town near the end of his day. I chose this hotel for him, though it was slightly more expensive than the only other place in town, because I knew from talking with the staff that he would be well taken care of. The woman who answered the phone was so personable and pleasant, I just knew he would have a good night's sleep. He came in far later than their regular check-in hours, and was greeted warmly. He slept on a bed that he said was nearly as comfy as home. He had a lovely breakfast the following morning, and was treated, he said, like one of the family. When he travels through Idaho, he will be staying there again. If we ever travel together, and end up in Idaho, we will make certain we stay here if at all possible. If you are ever anywhere near this small town, make it a point to stop at Hanson's - you'll be glad you did. read more

After a long day of driving, this little roadside inn was a great place to crash. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the room was clean and serviceable, though the WiFi didn't work that well. I also ate at the diner, and the patty melt really hit the spot. Both the room and the meal were very reasonably priced -- around $35 for the room, and around $7 for the meal. read more

I don't know if other reviewers don't know what good food is but that place sucks. It might be cheap but even the food we had wasn't worth what we paid. They advertised homemade lasagne for around $7.50, it came in a square about 4 inches by 4 inches, no meat sauce, using cheddar cheese, etc. It was horrible!!! If you use the recipe on the lasagne noodle package you would come up with a better tasting recipe than this. I ordered the chicken fried steak, the crispy outer crust just fell away from a thin piece of beef, the mashed potatoes were ok. As a side they gave me canned cream of chicken soup, YUCK....also served with white bread toast with some butter on. We stayed at the motel and I saw a roach in the bathroom during the night. The heat in the room was from an air con/heat unit in the window and would be heating the room so hot that we had to turn it off and then of course it would get cold. I would never ever refer either this motel or cafe to anyone! It's the worse place I've ever stayed and worse food I've ever had and we do lots of road trips cross country all the time!!! read more
