My podiatrist sent me to hansons because I acquired a tailors bunion and I just had knee replacement surgery a few months ago. He said Hansons will have a shoe that will aid both the issues. The closest Hansons for me was the Utica store on M-59. When I first walked in I was skeptical because the employees looked so young. I was quickly reminded you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The young man that helped me (Jabber J.) was very patient and knowledgeable. He also had a good understanding of my issues and what I needed. I told him my price range and he didn't try to over sell. He knew the differences in the design of each shoe. I've got a new perspective on the young people today. I also have the most comfortable pair of shoes that surprisingly didn't break the bank. I love Hanson's for all of my running shoes, have been getting my running shoes from this company for at least 14 years or longer now. We had about 10 minutes until close. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive as always. The customer service is always the best here. I had 6 or more samples of shoes to try. They were even able to look up my shoe size and the last pair purchased from the Royal Oak location. I ended up with a dark navy and hot pink Brooks ghost cushion shoe. I love this little running shop. I went here for shoes about 8 years ago when I first started running. They were pretty busy, but still attentive and helpful. They knew that I was new to running, and didn't try to sell me an outrageous, costly pair of shoes. They fit me and it was quick and painless. I'm often intimidated going into situations like this that are new to me. I look at these elite runners and worry they are going to judge me. However, the support was immense. They sell a lot more than shoes there too. They will also order items for you if they don't have them. They also have training runs that are supportive and fun. They have races and partner with race directors of other races. They are a huge part of the running community and well known. You may be able to buy a pair of shoes cheaper on like. But in this time with so many shops going under, I would rather spend a few more dollars to help keep a local shop, that is so important to the running community, in business. I will be one of the first ones in line when they reopen. I need a new pair of shoes (wore mine out running during this quarantine!). read more

Was greeted by young man who didn't smile but did seem eager to answer questions. Directed me to running shoes in wide widths.. very poor selection and even poorer selection in women's size eight. Another older gentleman working in the store neither acknowledged my presence nor answered any of the questions I asked aloud; actually seemed intent on completely ignoring me. Price of Brook's running shoes was reduced, so reasonable. and it is nice to be able to try before buying but I will not return to this store. With all the Amazon ordering of shoes, local merchants need to beware of their customer service etiquette and selection. Please do better. read more

My first trip back here in 10 years. (I've been living in the south.) I'm a little disappointed. A lot has changed with running gear during that time and they don't seem to have kept up. I was looking for Zoot compression socks. They only had two kinds of compression socks, neither of which I was familiar with. As far as the shoes. I wear an 8, which must be a popular size up here, as there weren't any to be found in the styles I wear. I may have to seek out a new place for my gear. read more

I'm shocked I'm the first to review this. Hanson's is a household name within the running community nationwide. They do not have a big selection of clothing and accessories. Fleet Feet has much more in the way of that. However, their shoe selection is for the serious runner. They have a great staff who are runners themselves. They carry track spikes, race flats, and trainers. If you're a casual runner, I would suggest trying a New Balance store, as they're more geared toward a casual runner. Their prices are pretty good. You'll do better online, but to me, it's worth the few bucks extra. read more

This is the only place to buy running shoes. Or walking shoes. Whatever type of fitness you have in mind, really. The employees are very educated on the products they sell. They have a machine that a customer can stand on and it will tell you where the pressure points in your stance are. Then the employee can help you find the best shoe to meet your needs. Once you try on the shoe, they have a treadmill in the store so you can take them for a bit longer of a spin if you'd like. The prices are as high as you'd expect for a great running shoe. I went here and asked for a cool looking shoe, but the girl showed me a lot of dorky looking ones. They say cool is subjective but I don't think so because if anyone's knows about cool, it's me. I've bought several pairs of shoes here over the years and have had good luck for the most part. The last pair of shoes that I bought in May, however, were not good and fell apart after two months of wear. I took the shoes back on 7/18/19 not expecting that anything would be done to help me get into a new pair but was pleasantly surprised that they exchanged the old ones for a new pair with no trouble or expense to me. I've not always had the best customer service at this store, but the two guys (I think a father and son, but didn't get their names unfortunately) that helped me were fantastic. Love this place! This is the only shop I will use to buy running shoes. Their selection is great, sales assistants really know their stuff and are experienced runners themselves. It's nice to work with people who aren't motivated by monthly "hot items" to push, but rather are focused on fitting you with the best shoe possible. read more

Always get a second opinion! After taking the advice from a couple of Hanson employees and spending hundreds of dollars, we found that listening to them only caused more problems!! My husband kept having issues with his IT Ban. Since he wasnt getting any relief we went to Run Fit in Novi. It was the best thing we did. He is able to run marathons with no pain now. I am not a hard core runner. Until today, I have bought my running shoes at big box stores like DSW. At the urging of my daughter, I went to a Hansons Running Shop to receive an expert recommendation for shoes. I appreciated the time the clerk spent with me. It was a low pressure sale, which I also value. I am very excited about my purchase. My shoes cost $150, which is much more than I would typically spend. Horrible customer service. Would not EVER buy from this store again. Let's start from the beginning. I have a 12 year old daughter who wanted to get into running. I know that Hanson's is very active in the running community and I like to support local businesses. She was fit for a pair of Brooks Ravenna 6 shoes. After running in them twice there was a noticeable rip in the material lining the inside of the shoe just above the last eyelet. We took the shoes back to the store and were rudely told by one of the salespeople, John, that the rip was caused by the way my daughter runs and that there was nothing they could do about it. I pointed out to him that the shoes looked brand new and there weren't any scuffs or wear marks on the outside of the shoe. He vehemently disagreed with me and told me that "something my daughter was doing" was causing the rip in the shoe. I asked to talk to the manager who agreed that the shoes appeared to be defective and he issued me a new pair of the exact same shoes (which appeared to upset salesperson John). My daughter was excited to get her shoes back. She proceeded to run twice in her new shoes and the exact same thing occurred. When I took her shoes back again my good friend John was there to greet us. When I asked to exchange her shoes for a new pair he replied "I remember you from last time, I gave you one pair of FREE shoes, I'm not giving you another pair." I politely reminded him that the shoes were not "free" and that I paid full retail price for them. He was polite enough to take my name and told me someone would call me by the end of the day. So far no call, imagine that. I did contact Brooks at Brooksrunning.com and talked to a customer service rep who to me that there is a known defect in these shoes and they would be sending me out a new pair. It would have been nice if Hanson's would have checked into this for me. As for my friend John, I would recommend that he find a new job that doesn't involve dealing with people. He was unbelievably rude and was more interested in arguing with me rather than deal with the real issue at hand. read more

Hanson's was recommended to me by someone when I first start running. The first time I went there was just to buy some decals and I went back yesterday to buy a new pair of running shoes. The sales person was friendly and showed me a pair similar to what I had been wearing in the same brand and two or three other shoes/brands indicating those were the only ones that would be a good fit. I didn't have a lot of time and purchased the pair similar to what I had been wearing, but on the way home I started thinking maybe I should try on a few more before deciding, after all a good pair of running shoes are not only expensive ($120), but you're going to run a lot of miles in them and you want them to last and be extremely comfortable. My old pair had some tearing in the fabric I wasn't happy with as the rest of the shoe wasn't too bad yet. I thought maybe I should try a different brand after all I am new to running shoes and haven't tried many. This morning I saw on the receipt that they do returns only for exchanges or store credit! I couldn't believe it! Who does that anymore? And they didn't even tell me before I made the purchase! Maybe there was a sign in store somewhere, but I sure wasn't looking for it and didn't see it. I definitely won't shop there again. I can buy the same shoe from Amazon and a lot of other stores for the same price and not have any concerns about returning if I change my mind. My wife and I went to Hansons to buy her a pair of running shoes. She has had issues in the past with cheap running shoes hurting her feet and we figured if we were going all in may as well be at Hanson's because they are local and help with proper shoe selection. Well...not so much. Our salesman was nice but didn't seem too interested in helping us in finding the proper shoes. He had her stand on a platform to assess her arch/pressure points and the machine said she has a medium to high arch. Trust me when I say that she does not have a arch at all, podiatrists have even told her this. We told the salesman this and he says " well the machine says she has a medium to high arch" Ok. So she tries on a few pairs and seems to find a pair that work and I assumed at this point the salesman would then take us over to the treadmill and assess gait and what not. No. So I asked him if we can use the treadmill and he says yeah go ahead try them out, but then doesn't come over with us, no input into her gait no using the camera, nothing. It's not that I won't come back to the store but I will drastically reduce my expectations in regards to the knowledge and customer service that the sales people will provide in selecting proper running shoes. We could have gotten the same service or better at a big box sports store. My wife and I both were very underwhelmed. read more
