If you're ever in Port Orange and looking for an incredible, authentic Korean barbecue experience, I highly recommend Hanwoo. I was blown away by how good the food was. While I didn't do the all-you-can-eat option, I ordered the Chef's Special Prime Hanger Steak, and it was unbelievably tender--so tender it practically melted in my mouth. It came with three flavorful dipping sauces that complemented the meat perfectly. The meal also included a variety of fresh and authentic banchan (Korean side dishes). As a Korean, I can appreciate good banchan, especially since both my mom and sister are amazing cooks. Hanwoo definitely delivered on authenticity and quality. I was fortunate enough to try both of their soups--a rich beef broth soup and a flavorful kimchi soup. Both were outstanding and packed with traditional Korean flavor. The service was exceptional. Our waiter was incredibly friendly, and I even got to speak a little Korean with him, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant itself is beautiful, clean, and feels brand new. It truly captures the warmth and tradition of Korean dining. I highly, highly recommend Hanwoo. In fact, I already need to call my parents because we're definitely coming here for Korean barbecue. This place is a fantastic experience. The food quality (and quantity) here is on a level I've not had in a long time with restaurants including expensive ones. The pricing was $40/person for unlimited food. For appetizers we got gyoza, tuna takaki, and fried lemon salmon, all of which were good but I personally loved the fried salmon! For the meats, we tried several, I'll list them in order of favorites: 1. Beef Bulgolgi, this one was absolutely by far the best for flavor and tenderness, definitely get this one! 2. The hanger steak, it had a nice flavor and tenderness and felt and tasted like nice quality meat. 3. Garlic butter shrimp 4. Lamb, we personally love lamb and again the quality was very noticeable and thus the flavor was delicious, but it's still lamb so if you don't like game meat, skip it. 5. Tuna 6. NY strip 7. Pork belly. The ramen noodles are absolutely amazing. They're so good they need their own commentary on them. We could have eaten a huge vat of them if our bellies allowed. Highly recommend! Also at the end of the meal they provide complimentary ice cream pops, very reminiscent of mochi but obviously different. The staff are so hospitable and attentive and they clearly have good team work. Everyone was hustling but any server that passed would bus our extra dishes, adjust the flame temp, pick up a toy my toddler dropped, etc. Our server Lee was so kind and genuine. He was attentive without being overbearing. Even though it was a nicer restaurant and our toddler was toddler-ing, the staff was so kind and didn't make us feel unwelcome. Pretty good AYCE KBBQ. Two menus to choose from - the classic is the right choice. The premium has sea bass and filet which aren't really good on the grill IMO. Great service from the start! My family of 10 came in on a Tuesday night and accommodated our party size immediately. Our server Sammy was great as soon as we got seated with asking and getting us anything we needed or for a "just in case" situation, she was so friendly and funny as well! We didn't like the small area of heat where you cook the meats. When you have 4 people trying to cook it's too small. We also don't like that we had to cook our own food. Port Orange finally has a KBBQ at Hanwoo in the old Mellow Mushroom on Taylor Road. They're still in a bit of a soft opening phase but let me tell you that did not reflect in the service which was spot on. The only tell is that they were out of some items - corn dog, chicken wings, marinated roast beef, bean sprouts. Hopefully they'll work out sourcing issues soon. I eat a lot of KBBQ down in Orlando and this is a great entry level place if you've never tried it before. The seasoning is toned down so nothings overly spicy or strongly flavored. There are plenty of "recognizable" meat options and things like butter garlic shrimp and chicken teriyaki for less adventurous eaters. I guess my point is it's good, but it's safe good. I'll give them huge props for absolutely tender and flavorful lamb and gator - two meats I've never seen at a KBBQ before. But the kimchi and gochujang were mild. Chopsticks and dipping sauces are upon request. While the banchan are unlimited they come in tiny single-serve dishes which says to me they're afraid of waste because people might not like them (the table behind us was adamantly against even trying kimchi). The place underwent an amazing transformation and it's clean, modern, and trendy/romantic without feeling pretentious or stuffy. Despite a hot grill at your table the temperature was very comfortable. Also gotta love a front desk that's a giant bull sculpture. I do hope they'll embrace the K of KBBQ a bit more as time goes on but I'll definitely be back because it was all quality ingredients and great staff. We had a great experience tonight at Hanwoo. It was a lovely first Korean Barbecue experience. The ambience is comfortable for either couples or large groups. They have a fantastic selection of different sides, appetizers and proteins, and everything we tried was very tasty. In case you don't know, Korean Barbecue is all-you-can eat (but there is not taking home leftovers). You sit at a booth with a wire-topped grill in the center of the table underneath a pergola. After telling the server which of the meal options you'd like (we did the Signature dinner) you can begin choosing from the options available with your package. Your proteins and veggies come uncooked (proteins are prepared with marinades/seasonings) and you butter them up and cook them on the wire grill while munching on your chosen appetizers or sides. What makes this experience so cool is that you dictate what you're eating and when. We started with all the appetizers this time, but next time we'll choose a few appetizers and a few proteins so we can mix it up! The food comes out very quickly because the proteins are raw, so keep that in mind. We tried: Appetizers: Gyoza Cord dog Chicken wings Corn and cheese Fried shrimp Seafood pancake marinated roast beef Sides: Kimchi Spicy radish Spicy cucumber Potatoes and egg salad sweet and sour seaweed Proteins: Sea bass Calamari steak (they brought us scallops too) Gator meat Marinated shortrib Marinated ribeye Hanger steak Veggies: Broccoli Onion Mushrooms (They also brought us some pineapple slices) Soup: Beef bone soup Other: Seasoned ramen Standouts (or surprises) for us: Gyoza Seafood pancake Spicy radish Sea bass Calamari Scallops Marinated ribeye Hanger steak Pineapple (fantastically juicy after searing on the grill with some butter) Wifey and I enjoyed a cozy date-night dinner, but the table adjacent to us had about 6 people, and they seemed to be having a blast. At the end of the meal, Jordan (who was very helpful and timely with her service) brought us melon creamsicles that really capped a heavy, enjoyable meal with a light sweet treat.
