If you're ever in Port Orange and looking for an incredible, authentic Korean barbecue experience, I highly recommend Hanwoo. I was blown away by how good the food was. While I didn't do the all-you-can-eat option, I ordered the Chef's Special Prime Hanger Steak, and it was unbelievably tender--so tender it practically melted in my mouth. It came with three flavorful dipping sauces that complemented the meat perfectly. The meal also included a variety of fresh and authentic banchan (Korean side dishes). As a Korean, I can appreciate good banchan, especially since both my mom and sister are amazing cooks. Hanwoo definitely delivered on authenticity and quality. I was fortunate enough to try both of their soups--a rich beef broth soup and a flavorful kimchi soup. Both were outstanding and packed with traditional Korean flavor. The service was exceptional. Our waiter was incredibly friendly, and I even got to speak a little Korean with him, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant itself is beautiful, clean, and feels brand new. We've been meaning to come here for a long time. On Sunday, we finally went. Everyone we encountered was kind and friendly! The vibe in there is really cool and the ordering simple, with our waiter, Lee, checking on us often. Loved the food from appetizers all the way through. To be honest, we had no idea what to expect. This place is a fantastic experience. The food quality (and quantity) here is on a level I've not had in a long time with restaurants including expensive ones. The pricing was $40/person for unlimited food. For appetizers we got gyoza, tuna takaki, and fried lemon salmon, all of which were good but I personally loved the fried salmon! For the meats, we tried several, I'll list them in order of favorites: 1. Beef Bulgolgi, this one was absolutely by far the best for flavor and tenderness, definitely get this one! 2. The hanger steak, it had a nice flavor and tenderness and felt and tasted like nice quality meat. 3. Garlic butter shrimp 4. Lamb, we personally love lamb and again the quality was very noticeable and thus the flavor was delicious, but it's still lamb so if you don't like game meat, skip it. 5. Tuna 6. NY strip 7. Pork belly. The ramen noodles are absolutely amazing. They're so good they need their own commentary on them. We could have eaten a huge vat of them if our bellies allowed. Highly recommend! Also at the end of the meal they provide complimentary ice cream pops, very reminiscent of mochi but obviously different. The staff are so hospitable and attentive and they clearly have good team work. Our food didn't take long to show to our table at all, and all of the meat was very fresh and absolutely delicious. The beef bulgogi was my favorite by far. It was fantastic and juicy, the scallops were so fresh tasting and satisfying, along with everything else. It was a great time for all of us getting to cook our own food on the grill. Our waiter, Brian, just made the experience all the better. When he first greeted us, after learning I was new he took the time to explain their items and how things work and he was clear and kind. Great service from the start! My family of 10 came in on a Tuesday night and accommodated our party size immediately. Our server Sammy was great as soon as we got seated with asking and getting us anything we needed or for a "just in case" situation, she was so friendly and funny as well! So, we loaded up the van and soon arrived, hungry and curious. -Inside, Hanwoo felt warm and inviting. The high-ceilinged booths were roomy and comfortable--always a welcome feature for our large, happy crew. It was my first time there; everyone else was returning for a second round, and I could see why. The menu offered three tiers--basic, middle, and premium--plus tempting add-ons. We settled on the middle level with extras, and it turned out to be just right. Our waitress radiated friendliness, keeping a watchful eye on our table and somehow always arriving before we realized we needed her. We joked that she ought to sit down and rest a moment between trips. The built-in stainless grill at the center of the table soon became the evening's stage. Platters of marinated meats, vegetables, and sauces kept arriving, each more enticing than the last. Every few minutes the plates refilled, the aromas grew richer, and we felt completely pampered. When one of us ordered a Tsing Tao beer and learned they were out, a bartender actually went across the shopping plaza to fetch a few bottles from their sister restaurant. Now that's above-and-beyond hospitality. Then came dessert: a tiny trio of mango-orange velvet cake squares, candles flickering, and "Happy Birthday" sung in Korean. Port Orange finally has a KBBQ at Hanwoo in the old Mellow Mushroom on Taylor Road. They're still in a bit of a soft opening phase but let me tell you that did not reflect in the service which was spot on. The only tell is that they were out of some items - corn dog, chicken wings, marinated roast beef, bean sprouts. Hopefully they'll work out sourcing issues soon. I eat a lot of KBBQ down in Orlando and this is a great entry level place if you've never tried it before. The seasoning is toned down so nothings overly spicy or strongly flavored. There are plenty of "recognizable" meat options and things like butter garlic shrimp and chicken teriyaki for less adventurous eaters. I guess my point is it's good, but it's safe good. I'll give them huge props for absolutely tender and flavorful lamb and gator - two meats I've never seen at a KBBQ before. But the kimchi and gochujang were mild. Chopsticks and dipping sauces are upon request. While the banchan are unlimited they come in tiny single-serve dishes which says to me they're afraid of waste because people might not like them (the table behind us was adamantly against even trying kimchi). The place underwent an amazing transformation and it's clean, modern, and trendy/romantic without feeling pretentious or stuffy. Despite a hot grill at your table the temperature was very comfortable. Also gotta love a front desk that's a giant bull sculpture. I do hope they'll embrace the K of KBBQ a bit more as time goes on but I'll definitely be back because it was all quality ingredients and great staff. After several recommendations to come here we finally tried Hanwoo. Our party of 4 all ordered the classic meals. The food had very good taste to it. We didn't like the small area of heat where you cook the meats. When you have 4 people trying to cook it's too small. We also don't like that we had to cook our own food. The rice and noodles were good but brought out in small bowls. Nothing was spicy here and we prefer spicy. All but one liked the dessert green ice cream. The Korean beer was good. Flavorful. Both pork and beef. Shrimp - large, plump, not marinated so use sauces Mushrooms and asparagus - These were fresh but unseasoned. I suggest marinating them in the shoyu or other sauce before grilling. Rice - as you'd expect it was perfect and very hot Banchan - nice assortment, we should have requested bean sprout one too. The cabbage one was a nice surprise. Ramen - in a home done foil packet, cooked with butter, warm up on the grill. Also a kid favorite. Beer- $5.50 domestic bottle, no draft available. The total was $165 before tip. It's really good and we will be back. As compared to New York Korean BBQ, it is more value for less $$. The NY quality is a bit better but portions are limited.
