Came in around 10:45 for breakfast on a Thursday morning. The site is slightly off the beaten path and we would have never seen it from the highway. Place was not busy so we say down and ordered. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Restaurant is clean and the staff was professional. Food was just ok. Absolutely perfect. I was honestly SHOCKED at the amazing experience and delighted by the yummy food and cheap cheap prices!! Firstly, my first thought was "umm... I don't feel too comfortable being in that area of town (Greenspoint) at night." But after a short discussion with my husband and reading the reviews off we went. It was off a small little side road (Dyna) and nestled behind a Burger King we arrived at the Cafe. Not much business from the looks of it but no worries! Delicious fish plate. I did not care for the the Mac and cheese. We were there around 2 pm. Watch their hours as they close early. Lemon pie does not seem home made. I would have given them 5 stars except I had to be rather stern when I was told they were out of tea. Server did make more tea. Employees are friendly. Hanz Diner has yummy, Southern comfort food, and healthier diet conscious options! Friendly, attentive staff; large ample parking lot; fresh homemade food, at reasonable prices. And lots of comfortable booths and tables to sit at. The wait staff are very professional, knowledgeable, and speedy with our order. They also make sure that our drink glasses stay full. We notice a bunch of regulars, who chat with the waitstaff, and owners. When we visit a city, we like visiting unique places. We avoid the same old chain restaurants. Hanz Diner gives Houston more charm and character. Also, we like going to family owned restaurants, to support local, small business owners. Let's get the bad out of the way first: the fried chicken wasn't good. It was too tough and chewy. But everything else was awesome. The place is actually pretty cool inside, the service is friendly and the waffle was amazing. Biscuits and gravy were solid too with a good amount of sausage. After a disastrous attempt at diner on Friday night at Chili's I was convinced that the service industry is dead and the best you can expect is someone to throw your food at you and not care if you like it or not. Guess what, everything bad about that horrible experience was put right at this wonderful diner. They are located in a non-descript building in an out of the way location in the West Rd and I45 area. Not much to write home about outside or inside, but it is eat off the floors clean inside. The staff and the incredible food is the main attraction here, so don't be put off by the outside or the decor. Everyone was smiling, cheerful and friendly. They made our experience enjoyable and comfortable and we never had to chase someone down for something. They were intuitive with fresh coffee or more napkins before we even knew we needed them. The food is down home goodness. Biscuit that melt in your mouth. A meat lovers 3-egg omelet stuffed with flavor. Grits like somebody's Grandma was in the back pouring love into them. All of this for less than the price of your traditional breakfast spots like I-Hop or Denny's. The menu for lunch looked wonderful also and we will be back as soon as our stomachs can handle another monster meal. I ordered a pancake reminds me of when I was kid on Sunday my dad making pancakes the size of the pan. I'm telling you so fluffy cakey Heaven. I'm picky about my bacon lol. My girlfriend found this spot on yelp and we decided to make a stop. I decided to go with the fried pork chops with two sides of Mac n cheese - mashed potatoes with brown gravy. Guys seriously these pork chops reminded me of my moms pork chops. The Mac n cheese is home made none of that Mac n cheese in a box and the mashed potatoes were also made fresh! Came in for breakfast at 11:30 am took 20 minutes to get menus, another 10 minutes for coffees once they took our orders we notice after about another 30 mins people around us were getting thier food. This restaurant is one of the better changes. Atmosphere : big, lots of seating Restrooms: small, no changing station for LOs (could use updating) Customer service 5: we were greeted immediately upon entering by practically the whole staff, waitress (female waiter) was attentive and kind Food : yes, the portions are huge, but did NOT like the flavor of the brown gravy (weird taste). So, we asked for some cream gravy for our potatoes. The cream gravy was much better. Would I return? Yes! There are really no other good options unless you want to go to China Border and get sick.
