The sushi here is very creative and delicious! We ordered the calamari and two rolls. One was baked salmon and the other had mint. They were both very fresh and came out quickly. The ambiance is adorable and is right in downtown Laguna.

I'm a total sushi girl at heart, so finding new spots to try is always a win. We were wandering around Laguna and stumbled on this adorable little sushi place. The staff was super friendly and genuinely personable, like they actually enjoy getting to know the people who stop in. The sushi was fresh, had great variety, and hit the spot perfectly. If you're in the area and craving some rolls or just a quick, tasty bite, this place is absolutely worth a visit.

My New Year's Day tradition of exploring a new sushi spot led me to this incredible, historic gem in Laguna Beach! From the moment Jesse greeted us with such warmth, I knew it was special. Chef Toshi recommended the salmon lemon roll (with asparagus) for my favorite fish, and it was perfection! They even made a custom handroll flawlessly. The place is spotless, and the original 1989 murals add so much character (sorry, got distracted, no pics!). This spot has been here 42 years, and I'll definitely be returning for more tranquility in this favorite coastal spot!

Wanted to try a sushi spot here around laguana and we can across this one in yelp! The server Kaya gave good service! We tried the Japanese burrito,Kaya roll , and Godzilla roll, my favorite was the Japanese burrito!! Must try!! ‍

First time here and I had a wonderful time. Very cute restaurant, besides the beautiful wall paintings the food was very fresh and good. Jesse and Toshi did a great job, great service and vibe! I will be coming back

I chose this restaurant for my mom's birthday and mentioned that in the reservation. They were nice enough to keep her cake in the fridge until we were ready to eat it. We sit down at a table at the far end sun in my face as the middle table was open and in the shade. We sit down and get settled. A family of 6 comes in and ends up sitting behind my party of 4. Server introduces herself and the specials to my table. Goes to the table behind us does the same thing but ask "anything to drink?" That one question we weren't asked. The table behind us gets their drinks and they get to order with a lengthy conversation. Finally our turn to order! Would have loved a nice glass of beer while we waited. Ordered 4 items, two appetizers (spicy salmon and yellowtail crispy rice), bluefin carpacio, Marilyn Monroe roll, rainbow roll. We get everything but the rainbow roll. After some time she comes back and asked if we want to order anything more. I said "do I have any other rolls coming?" Alluding to that I'm missing a roll. Her response sounded like she was questioning me as if our empty plate was the rainbow roll. We order another roll. Ready for our cake, she brought it out and lit a candle since we didn't have one. I was just expecting a free birthday item. Most restaurants celebrate birthdays with an ice cream or something. Service just felt slow and felt the other table was getting better service.

The food was outstanding, but what impressed me the most was the attention to detail. Every course was served at the perfect temperature, and you could tell they genuinely care about each guest's experience. At one point, my girlfriend stepped away to use the restroom, and instead of serving her course while she was gone, the chefs waited until she returned, prepared it fresh, and served it right then. That level of thoughtfulness made the experience feel truly personal. The chefs explained each course without interrupting our conversation, creating the perfect balance between hospitality and allowing us to enjoy our evening. They also encouraged us to ask questions, and whenever we did, they answered with genuine knowledge and passion. It was clear they truly understand their craft. The sake and Japanese tea recommendations were excellent and paired beautifully with the meal. Every detail felt intentional, making this one of the best dining experiences we've had. We will definitely be coming back and recommending Rebel Omakase to our friends as well.

Chef Miki Izumisawa is the only female sushi chef I know of to this day, and still consider her one of my heroes. She is an artist at heart, getting inspiration from nature to create unique nigiri, cut rolls and hand rolls. She has trained more female sushi chefs to execute her masterpieces, and it's really awesome to see these bad ass women challenging Japanese gender norms! Traditional nigiri run about $7, whereas, fusion nigiri are priced around $8, so I suggest trying fusion pieces, which are thoughtfully crafted with house-made sauces and flavorful garnishes. I recently came with four friends around 5pm and was graciously seated outside. We each ordered the Sexy Hand Roll and a cut roll to share and that seemed to be enough. We also tried the Toro Fusion nigiri, Tuna Fusion nigiri with spicy miso and chili paste as well as a recommended appetizer of seared albacore and a delicious gingery, garlicky sauce. Each bite of everything had umami, texture, fragrance, and beauty, playing with all our senses. The restaurant is teeny tiny, and only open from 4:30-8:30pm, so I recommend arriving when they open or make a reservation 24 hours in advance. Note that they only take reservations at 5pm though. Street parking is metered and a bit pricey and challenging being close to Main Laguna, but so worth the hassle!
