Vegan options yay! We ordered a vegan noodle dish- yakisoba noodles, veggie broth, and some tofu (can't remember the name). Our girls shared some steamed rice and a tofu appetizer. Their chili pastes listed on the menu are not vegan, unfortunately. I asked for something to add spice to my soup and they delivered. It gave the broth a really nice flavor. We ordered sparkling water for our girls (they like it), hubby ordered a soda, and I ordered a Sapporo. We also shared a small bottle of their house cold sake. It wasn't too sweet or dry. Service was average. They were quite busy that day. We were glad to be able to find a vegan option not too far from our Airbnb. read more

WOW! WOW! So we were strolling to downtown and decided to try the GU Ramen restaurant. Super cool inside with nice our seating. And HOLY SMOKES best pork belly sliders I've ever had. Wife got the pork belly ramen and again some of the best ramen ever...the flavors were amazing. Our waiter, Brandon was fantastic, super helpful, so friendly and made the experience even better. Can't wait to try everything on the menu...yummolicious and our dog in backpack couldn't have agreed more...one of the best restaurants on our foodcation. read more

Charming little spot right on the Pacific Coast Highway. We stopped by after an afternoon playing at the beach and the ramen hit the spot! Service was friendly (although she was slammed as she was by herself), and the single restroom was clean. Parking was a bit hard to find because of how busy the street is but I can tell both locals & tourists frequent this cozy restaurant. (I overheard one customer asking where he could put his surfboard!) As I mentioned, the ramen broth was well flavored, but I didn't get a chance to try the drinks or tapas. Will try to stop by the next time I'm in town! read more

Chill beach restaurant ambiance! Food came out SO quickly (5mins or so) and the waitress always immediately came by to refill our water cups. The food was very salty though, hence all the water refills. I recommend their calamari, so tender and with the right amount of batter. If you're looking for a nice lunch by the coast after a beach/hiking activity, this is the place to be! :) read more

I love ramen and crave it pretty often. This place hit the spot. I ordered their tonkotsu ramen with a soft boiled egg. Ramen 9/10 Soup was rich and flavorful Egg was perfectly soft boiled. Firm, slightly runny, absorbed all of the good flavors. Noodles were firm and full of texture. The quantity was lacking. We had a wonderful dinner here during our vacation in Laguna Beach last month, and it ended up being the highlight of our trip. The ramen was outstanding. I highly recommend the super spicy tonkotsu with mayu garlic oil. The broth was rich, creamy, and deeply satisfying, and the noodles had excellent texture and flavor. We have a very good ramen place back home in the Bay Area where a bowl costs quite a bit more, so GU Ramen was especially impressive for the quality at this price point. The draft beer selection was also strong, and we appreciated being offered a few samples so we could find the perfect pairing. Service was attentive and relaxed, and the whole experience felt easy and welcoming. What really won me over, though, was meeting the owner at the end of the night. She was charming, sincere, and clearly deeply invested in her restaurant. It is rare to meet someone in hospitality whose devotion to quality feels so genuine and so complete. That same care was evident in the food, and it made the entire evening memorable. GU Ramen was the best dining experience we had in Laguna Beach. GU Ramen in Laguna Beach looks promising from the outside, but the experience didn't quite live up to the price tag. The atmosphere leans a bit too pretentious for what should be a comforting bowl of ramen. The food itself was decent--you can definitely give it a try--but there wasn't anything that really stood out, especially considering the high prices. For the same cost (or less), you can find better Japanese food--or better food in general--elsewhere in Laguna Beach. Not a terrible experience, but not one I'd rush back for either. read more

I'll start by saying my standard is ramen from Japan. It's hard finding ramen in america that comes close to it. That said, the noodles were undercooked and tasted more like instant noodles than fresh or good quality ramen noodles and it came out like warm. Was disappointed because I've heard amazing things about this place. The price point was very high for what it was... That said, the staff was extremely friendly and the place itself was cute. Just not the best ramen. read more

Delicious. I love ramen and it really hit the spot. I got spicy and added the garlic oil, yum! We also had the ahi on crispy rice cakes that was great too. Place is pretty small but we were able to get a booth right away on a Thursday around 5. We got the edamame for my 2 year old because he really enjoys it, he loved my ramen noodles too. I can't believe I live so close and it was my first time coming to this place after 3 years. If only I would've known! A very quaint, small little spot nestled amongst other shops on PCH but this one isn't to miss. On a rainy day it's perfect for ramen with all the choices one could ask for. I'd highly recommend ordering some tapas which all sound great but we definitely have a clear winner with the ahi tuna on top of crispy rice. What a delicious and enjoyable lunch in Laguna Beach to celebrate my friend's birthday! Savor the Gu Ramen, which is customizable to spicy level, choice of noodles and toppings. The combination of Tonkotsu broth with pork and chicken and Chashu was so satisfying and delicious!! The added spinach gave me the veggies it needed. My friend ordered the same thing except she had kale noodles, which is a great low carb option and added bean sprouts instead of spinach. She loved it!! My friend (his birthday) ordered the Ramen Tofu with this Shoyu Umami Broth and double Tofu. It was delightful and it's his regular go-to. The spicy and regular edamame is the perfect appetizer! Very shareable! The service was friendly. She remembers her regulars. Love the ambiance!! The open window is great!! It's near the beach! Just be prepared for the summer crowds in Laguna. Parking isn't the easiest. You'll probably have to circle around a bit. And, the traffic going into Laguna Beach can be frustrating so allow for extra time. read more

I got the regular tonkatsu ramen, not spicy, with pork belly and two eggs. It was pretty alright, ordered it takeout, they didn't provide takeout utensils. I didn't ask for any because I assumed theyd be in the bag, so note bring your own if you want takeout. Nothing too crazy, nothing offensive. If you're already in Laguna and want to avoid canyon traffic, come here. If you can go anywhere else, there are better options in OC. Looks cute inside tho read more

This place was my daughters favorite noodle House back in the day... It had been a while since I have been there, we decided after a round of golf that we would stop in for some Ramen. The Gu Fries was cheesey and had a complimenting soy glaze the complimented the saltiness of our ramens. The service was unhurried and efficient. The vibe of the space was consistent with the theme. I'm giving this place 5 stars because of their customer service and great food! They were very accommodating to my vegan fiance. Besides the tofu kale and udon noodles, try their vegan modified fried rice, and sautéed sprouts and scallions. We didn't get to try the other vegan friendly items, but ask the server, and they will let you know. On the non-vegan items, I had the poke diablo tada and kurobuta sausage. The poke was pretty spicy, and the sausage was your typical Japanese kind. I would definitely go back and highly recommend this place! read more

Great spot! Ordered the mild ramen with chashu pork + combo fried rice and a side of ahí poke (#1 on the appetizer menu). Service was super quick with our food coming out in less than 10 minutes. The waiters were AWESOME! All so friendly, attentive, and really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Easy to find street metered parking at night. Beach is a close walk away. The first time, back in January, the food quality wasn't on point-I ordered the blackened tuna tacos and they were completely inedible. I didn't complain or send them back -- I simply left it at that. Today was service from one particular server Taylor. I had just come down from the club lounge and remembered that I had a complimentary voucher given at check-in, which didn't specify what it covered on it. I first asked at the lobby bar and no one was able to provide a clear answer, so I went next door to Raya and asked again before ordering. The hostess told me I could choose anything and even recommended the skirt steak. She was kind and friendly. Taylor took my order, and I reasonably assumed there had been communication between staff. So I spent some time ordering and waiting and when my food arrived since I asked for a to go order, I grabbed the bag, tipped, and left. Then Taylor ran after me at the hotel entrance asking how I planned to pay -- in front of other guests. It was an extremely uncomfortable and bizarre situation. I didn't realize what has happened I was just handed the bill and I put my room number and name down. I was then told the voucher only covered guacamole, which directly contradicted what I had been told prior to ordering. As a result, I wasted approximately 40 minutes of my time, I was simply trying to head to the beach before departing, and instead found myself dealing with a situation that should have been handled internally and discreetly. When I handed the food back and said I did not want it, the response was "ok, I'll toss it," followed by no acknowledgment, no apology, and no effort to resolve the situation. At this point, this is no longer an isolated incident. For a restaurant positioned as fine dining, the lack of internal communication, consistency, and basic guest handling is surprising -- especially when every other outlet on the property demonstrates a significantly higher standard. Raya was the only part of the experience that felt misaligned with the rest of the hotel -- and unfortunately, it's the last impression I'm leaving with.

This place was great. The ramen was good, service even better. The '80s music videos adds a cool vibe. Definitely didn't expect to get good ramen when I walked in based on the decor, and the fact that none of the waitresses were Asian. Of course, I'm also walking into a ramen place in Laguna Beach so that's to be expected. Ramen is fairly priced, gotta pay for extras, but pretty much every ramen place in LA and OC operate on the same model, so people need to stop complaining. After a year of driving to Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach for Ramen every week or two, I was really praying that a ramen place would open up closer. The ramen gods have answered my prayer. What I tried (can't remember exact names): tonkatsu ramen with pork, sticky wings, pork sliders on pretzel bun. Everything was really good. I highly recommend. Craft beer options too? That will be nice after a long day at the beach this summer. Beyond stoked I can get ramen 2 minutes from my house (and its good)! read more

I like their location in Santa Ana way better but the closed down, the service was faster. Here you walk in and wait at least 15 min for table which is ok but the waitresses are not as attentive. I have been here like 3 times only for the ramen as my husband loves pork belly ramen they serve. I would get tofu ramen which taste pretty good as well. Their spicy edamame is my favorite appetizer here. read more

The ramen here is very tasty. The main lady who works there is not very friendly with kids. She tossed a toy at my son and said "maybe this will shut him up" the ONLY reason I give them 4 stars is because of the food.
