I was so excited about booking our backyard explorer for my daughters 2nd birthday! Our event planner recommended this company for my daughter's first birthday last year, but we decided not to use them since the kids were too small. Fast forward to this year, we booked the backyard safari explorer with a sing along and balloon animals. Overall, the sing a long was lack luster and didn't really hold the kid's attention. We quickly pivoted to cake cutting and balloon animals, which also were just kind of meh some animals (that all looked the same). I'm giving 1 star because she did make some extra balloons for the kids who asked and was nice. I think the root problem was: 1. Her entire face was covered between glasses and a huge mask, so the kids couldn't really engage with any facial expressions. It was also hard to hear her over the mask. I'm all for COVID safety, but I think the company could have done a better job at orchestrating the performance if that was a concern (i.e., maybe not a sing a long, but a parachute game or something else) 2. She didn't have great command over the kids and it almost felt like she hadn't worked with kids before. 3. The songs/balloon animals were all meh and not especially noteworthy Overall, I don't think I'll be hiring this company again (or at least not the backyard explorer character) and a lot of the parents at the party were also shocked at the quality of entertainment for the price. read more

This was our first time hiring a performer for a kids birthday party, and it was amazing. Rocky, our performer, kept the kids entertained with his magic tricks, parachute games, balloons twisting, and freeze dance. He was very pleasant in demeanor and very jovial too. The kids were glued to his performance. Overall, everyone enjoyed the performance. He helped in gathering the kids around for cake cutting time, and took extra efforts to make balloons for everyone, including adults. One of the best things I liked about Happily Ever Laughter was their mode of communication. Apart from email confirmation, and text messages from the main team, the performer, Rocky, called in advance to layout the plan, and was punctual on the birthday day. I think I expected a bit more from this company. From the get-go, I had to correct the invoice a couple of times, so make sure you review everything carefully. They are quite responsive, though, which is great. Strangely, my friend had used the same company and paid 50 dollars less than us. Same activities, same everything, so not sure about the lack of consistency. I honestly wouldn't recommend the rain insurance. We bought it, but didn't use it because why would you push back the whole birthday party for rain? Such a hassle to do that and contact everyone etc etc. You would just make sure you have an indoor venue. Which is what we did. The idea is great, but practically speaking... We had Miss Helen, who was communicative, which I appreciated. I liked how she is also a full time nanny, so that gave me some reassurance. She was punctual, which was great, but of course, when I emailed this company about the change in location and they confirmed, they didn't communicate that to Miss Helen. Fortunately, we had a phone conversation prior to the event. Pros: - the Fairy costume definitely caught the eye of the little ones since it comes off as "magical." - Miss Helen came prepared with all the materials she needed. - Miss Helen tried to engage with most of the kiddos and seems to really work well with kids. Cons: - the Fairy costume caught the eye of others, too lol. Apparently the décolleté was accentuated (I didn't notice since I was too focused on other things, but according to some other people I spoke with). Not sure why you would need that for a birthday party, but... just as an FYI! - strangely, miss Helen started packing up 8 minutes prior to the time she was supposed to leave. I know, I know. It's only 8 minutes. I just didn't like how she used part of our paid time to bring some of her materials back to her car. Especially given the cost. - I don't recommend this if your kids are younger than 5. This was for our 3 year old daughter's birthday and it caught the attention of maybe half of the kids. The other kids were more excited about balloons on the floor. - the magic puppet show was a bit lack luster. She spent 10 minutes just talking about and trying to amp up the puppet show rather than just doing the puppet show. - if your kid is active, I don't recommend this company. It's perfect for those really well behaved attentive kids that can sit still for 1.5 hours. Ours probably engaged with the whole experience for maybe 20 minutes max total. That said, half of the kids loved her, so... I think we will consider a different experience for us in the future. * update: their customer service is top notch. I wrote the above review and immediately after, they reached out and provided me a full refund - no questions asked. I definitely didn't expect that at all, but was impressed with their dedication to customer service. Also I stand corrected re: rain insurance since it is worth it since it covers of your kiddo gets sick. Which, let's face it, happens too frequently! read more

Shadow was our secret fairy for my little one's birthday party. It was a party for about 19 kids from Kinder to 3rd grade. I was very impressed with how Shadow kept all the kids' attention the whole time during the magic show. Everyone invited showed up, so at first we were worried about not being able to give every kid the face painting or balloon that they want, but shadow worked her fairy magic and made everything worked beautifully within the timeframe. At the last segment, the birthday girl didn't want a balloon but Shadow offered to play bubbles with her for a few minutes in lieu of balloon twist -- this is quick thinking and going above and beyond. If Shadow just took the birthday girl's words and didn't do anything else when she turned down the balloon, the birthday girl might have felt her day was incomplete. It was simple but it meant that birthday girl ended the day on a happy note, so I am very thankful for that. After all, every kid who wanted face painting and a balloon got it. It was my first time planning a party for 20 kids at a huge park with lots of interesting structures to get on. No one ran off to the other end of the park, and the other parents and I got to chat away feeling relaxed. Getting Shadow from Happily Ever Laughter was the best decision and well worth it for a kids party of this size. I would hire them again. I am sure everyone is great but I will specifically request for Shadow again if she was available next time! The communication from everyone right at the start was unmatched. They were so good that I initially thought I was getting into some sort of scam because they were following up a lot when I inquired about dates and then got super busy to complete the booking form. Hahaha. The day before, Shadow checked in with me over text and gave me options on which fairy outfit she would come in and helped me decide when we'd cut the cake.
