I like that they take walk-ins. Straight to the point no trouble no fuss. Walked in this family business and was in the barber chair less then 10 mins. This Happy Barber location is equally as excellent as their Balboa location and deserves an equally excellent review. Prices - For the quality of cut, the prices here cannot be beat. They've always been affordable, and they still offer competitive prices post-pandemic fueled inflation. For a beard trim and fade, I'll pay $39 - compare this to $65+ at other barbershops. Quality - I'll die on this hill that this place offers excellent cuts comprobable to those more "stylized" barbers (which are nearly 2.5x the price). Not that it's ever happened, but I'm confident that why barber will be more than happy to adjust as needed when cutting your hair. Tom is my barber, and he's the best barber I've ever had. Customer Service - Also cannot be beat. They welcome everyone in, say thank you to everyone, and sincerely give off the appreciation for our business. I've been coming to happy barber since I was in undergrad and I've always gotten pretty much the same consistent cut. If you're planning a trip here this is how you do it. Let me preface by saying that this is a Vietnamese barber shop and not a salon! That means no appointments, cash only, and every barber speaks perfect English but they will have a Vietnamese accent. The how to: Depending how busy it they utilize a ticket system, dispenser is right by the entrance to your right. If it isn't busy then you can probably just chill in one of the seats and they'll handle it themselves. If you're unsure? Just ask if you need a ticket. The cut: Be as specific as possible!!! If you want a skin fade, hard part, undercut whatever be as specific as possible! For example I ask for a number one fade on the sides, a low skin fade in the back, square the sides and sharp for the side burns. The top I ask them to thin and cut an inch most of the time. Everyone there does a great job with a fade just remember to be as specific as possible and you can even show them photos. I recently stopped by to get lined up before my wedding and you can tell it was clean! read more

Been getting my haircut here for over 10 years and never disappointed. I usually go to the same barber since he knows how I like my hair cut. Today (November 29, 2022) he wasn't here and I needed a cut for some family photos, didn't really care who cut my hair at this point since I needed it today. One barber straight refused to cut my hair saying he didn't want to mess it up. Another said to come back. Do y'all cut hair or no? I'm still there because I need it cut, obviously. Decided to find a new barber for a haircut and came across this one near me. Apparently they're family owned and they have a total of 3 barbershops with the same name in San Diego. They're run by mostly Vietnamese staff but they understand and speak English. It's a quick come in and get your haircut place. No fancy setup with all the glitz and glamour. It's more of an old school barbershop if u ask me. They only accept cash so bring a $20 and u should be good. I got my cut from a young gentleman name Nick. Told the barber I wanted the top blended with the side, a mid number 3 fade, and even brought in a picture to be extra clear. He gave me an undercut and a shorter high fade. The haircut that I'd had for years is out the window. I haven't used hair products since high school, but now I have to again because of the haircut I got. The level of service and professionalism I see here is at the same level of a highschooler giving cuts in the locker room, except even they may be more understanding when they completely mess someone up. You come to happy barber and leave sad because your neck will be all sliced up and you might get an infection from their gross tools they failed to clean. They don't offer any refunds or care about their mistakes, so of course they make you pay with cash so you can't charge them back. No frills, no services, hairwash, or upsell. You sit down, tell them what you want, sit in silence and your pay probably half what other barbers charge. Some things you should know: 1.This is a Vietnamese-run place, most of the barbers have heavy accents, but they speak and understand english quite well. If you have a complicated request that you absolutely must communicate, bring a picture. 2.There are no appointments. 3.There is a strict ticketing system. You grab a deli number, wait in the chairs. If you're not there, theres no do overs. You have to take a new number. 4.It is cash only. There are atms nearby, but if you know you want to go here, just bring a 20 along. 5.The wait is long, but they go through a lot of people. I would expect to wait around 30 minutes to an hour when it is a full house. When I went here there was this awful customer who came and yelled at all the staff because they called his number and he wasnt there. He refused to wait in a chair, he refused to abide by the ticketing system, and when they werent having any of his bullshit he couldn't handle it. Sad to say I will no longer give my business to this establishment. Was here 3 weeks ago and showed up for my last haircut ever here... On both occasions I had been skipped in line as the barbers seem to not have well enough memory of those who come in amongst those who have already been patiently seated and waiting to get cut. What shocks me the most is I literally never have complaints about my hair cut just after completion. And I feel it's so unfair that they treat the repeat guests, whom they probably know because they've complained before in the past, in a prioritized fashion than normal faces who actually stay loyal to this business. I have been coming here for a couple of years now on a consistent basis, and I have not been anywhere else for a trim. All this for good reason too. Haircuts are now starting at 11 dollars. Anything extra for a few more bucks. The lineup of barbers have changed mostly, with a few veterans left that still work there. They remember your spot in line. I took a picture of my haircut and saved it on my phone so it will be easier for them to recreate the previous cut. Fast and friendly, all of them have done a pretty decent job. There are times when one side is unequal to the other, that's why you have to pay attention at the end when they give you the mirror to double check. Cash only that's it.
