The Happy Cooker restaurant was a short walk from the Georgetown Mountain Inn which gave us time to stroller through this quaint town. I got eggs Benedict with home fries and I can truly say it felt 100% like your mom made it. Definitely would get again. We got there right when it opened at 8 am. So our service was quick. So just remember if your up early for breakfast like we are nothing in this town we have opens before 8 am or has dinner after 8 pm. read more

Happy Cooker is a cute little spot and the service was friendly. The location in the mountains is idyllic. The menu leans more towards breakfast items, so perhaps thats the way to go. I popped in here for lunch and ordered the Vegetarian Chili. It was very average and bland. I was expecting a bit more of a punch. I had read reviews about their homemade bread being delicious, so I was happy to see the Chili came with a slice of that bread. Once again, I was left a bit underwhelmed. They were out of carbonated beverages and their pork green chile. I ordered huevos rancheros with their vegetarian green chile instead. It was the weirdest green chile that I've ever eaten. Mushy overcooked vegetables, and pinto beans? or kidney beans? Who puts beans in green chile? Plus the dish already comes with black beans. Bean overload! Great local diner in Georgetown. They open at 8am when other restaurants open later. I came up headed to Breckenridge for the day and decided breakfast was needed. Homey atmosphere with 17 tables inside and 7 tables outside with crank up fabric umbrellas. The menu has standard breakfast & lunch items, each no more than $15. Some locals, others like me from Denver and I overheard 2 other conversations from other languages. I started with a champagne mimosa with equal amounts of champagne and OJ. Very nice for $6. I decidedly to spurge and got their cinnamon roll for $10. Lots of cinnamon and drizzled with frosting. There was more frosting on the plate than on top, so a better appearance. I also got a full order of house-made French bread French toast with a side of crunchy bacon. Decadent yes! I was served by Richelle. This is an interesting little place. We tried it before a train ride because it is from 1974. It feels dated and rundown. The dated part is ok because it is older, but it feels a little dirty. We still looked forward to our food and experience. Staff did a good job. The food was both okay and good. We loved our turkey sandwich on housemade bread and the eggs and waffles. Something to note, the turkey comes with avocado. It is a spread of avocado rather than pieces. Don't pass up the sandwich as it is so, so good. Just get your avocado fix somewhere else. It was the super large cinnamon roll that was so disappointing. It was huge and so darn dry that it wasn't worth eating. At $10, that was rough because it was a waste of money and food. read more

We've gone here for years, mostly in the summer to eat on their great patio surrounded by friendly dogs. The food has never been spectacular, but the service used to be quite friendly. The last two times have convinced us to look elsewhere. A couple of years ago, we tried this place and it was shut down because they couldn't hire. Another friendly local told me they could have hired people if they had paid a fair wage. This weekend, we went once again, and it was open again. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the ambiance, but the server wasn't very friendly, and I was served a beer and asked if I wanted a glass for it, because it came in a can and they have nothing on tap. I was told the glass wouldn't be chilled, which I said was okay. But the can of beer was room temp! I'm not English, so I REALLY didn't enjoy that. Partner had breakfast, which was meh. I had a sandwich, which wasn't very good, and bad effects followed. This place has been popular for ages, and its patio is one of the best, but we'll be looking for other places to eat when we go to Georgetown. I believe in supporting small business and family businesses, but only if they're well managed and nice. The next day, received the response below from the manager. If this was meant to be a sincere apology, I guess that explains the experience we had... "Sorry for your experience. We hire and pay above the minimum wage, and our Servers typically make $200 to $400 a day in tips. All of our employees make well over the average wage in the community. The difficulty is for employees to drive to the town. The local housing costs are quite prohibitive. Our business always maintains the same quality. If your meal was not acceptable, you should have asked for the owner and we would have taken care of it or offered a comp. We can't help you now because you told us in a social media post. Always ask for assistance if you are not satisfied, and any restaurant will do their best to make it right. Apologies from our team." read more

Have eaten here a number of times but never written a review. We drove over Guanella Pass today and stopped here for lunch before doing some shopping in Georgetown. Darek warned us that he was the only server and he seemed a little frazzled. Nevertheless he gave us great service and the food was up to the usual standard. I had the pork green chili with homemade jalapeño bread. It was delicious. We gave Darek a good tip. They've been here since '74 (50 years). They must be doing something right! read more

Cute little lunch spot to stop by during a long scenic Colorado drive or after a nice hike. The best part about Happy Cooker was their homemade bread-- thick, crusty, buttery slices of hearty goodness. 5/5 bread. You can't go wrong with any of the flavors-- I personally loved the roasted tomato basil bread the best, and thoroughly enjoyed it with vegetarian chili. Simple yet satisfying! My friend's tomato basil soup was lukewarm and tasted more like pink vodka pasta sauce rather than a nice tomato soup. However her jalapeño bread was delicious and saved the "soup". I cannot speak in detail on the burrito my friend ordered, but he rated it a 5/10. I think their loaves are only $8. If I were able, I would return to buy some loaves! Quaint, charming place with lovingly prepared food. My salad included strawberries, pecans, and blue cheese with a delicious balsamic vinaigrette and a huge thick slice of country-style homemade white bread with tangy red peppers baked in! They are famous for this bread, deservedly! From what I understand, it's different each day. My friend had a basic breakast,, and hubby had a French Dip. Stopped in for breakfast before walking around the lake in Georgetown. The only place open early on a Wednesday..food was decent, staff was friendly. Coffee left more to be desired though. Restaurant could definitely be cleaned better, don't look up at the dust collecting on the ceiling fans. read more

Unfortunately for me, (I was yearning for a simple good breakfast) I ordered the eggs, sausage, "biscuits" & gravy. The breakfast plate looked just like the picture posted by another reviewer, and it tasted even plain as it looked. (I copied and posted that pic. It's very accurate) The eggs, maybe medium sized, could have been cooked in a non-stick skillet with spray oil. The sausages were seriously lacking in flavor and seemingly had been cooked for quite some time. The "gravy" had little flavor. The "biscuits" were NOT BISCUITS. It was just one plain WHITE BREAD, square dinner roll (think Wonder Bread. Like those that come in the 12 pack plastic bags in the grocery store. The breakfast could have passed for "bland diet" in a hospital. The restaurant seems to be an old house that was converted years ago. Little effort was put into it. CAUTION should be used when going to the restrooms. There's a warning sign about the step down into the narrow hallway. There's no actual step. The floor just slopes down and you figure that out when you expect your foot to be landing on the floor and it doesn't. I gave two stars only because my three guests were satisfied with their meals. read more

This is a no frills, straight forward breakfast stop right on Main Street. Ordered the basic 2 egg plate and a vegetarian breakfast burrito and everything came out great. Worst experience at this so called 'restaurant'. Never did I think I would have to face racism at a restaurant. As soon as we entered, the attitude of the servers was awful to us. We were a party of 7 with 2 infants and they refused to take in the infants because they would apparently ruin the dirty decor of the restaurant. How can one expect 3 and 5 month old infants to ruin the interior? I am so disappointed with this poor service and hateful attitude. They refused to attend us and we were asked to leave the restaurant. I will do my best to ensure authorities take action towards this restaurant and the people who are reading this should simply not give them any business. UPDATE: These guys are SO UNAPOLOGETIC AND FULL OF THEMSELVES. Rather than apologising for their crappy attitude the owner started private messaging me on facebook with an unapologetic attitude and making all my claims false and creating their own story to it and asking me to cooperate for an "investigation". I urge you all to think over this and their egoistic attitude. I would highly suggest ALL OF YOU to stay away from this restaurant. read more

Great eggs Benedict if you're into that. The portions are large (even my mother couldn't finish a half-order), so come prepared. Coming in at 8 am we were seated immediately, though it looks like it gets real busy later in the day. This place was only ok for me. There was a wait on a Monday around noon (Indigenous Peoples' Day), which tells me it's one of the better restaurants in this small town. They were out of their signature meatloaf by the time we got seated, but the half of the egg/bacon/waffle entree was solid and the chicken sandwich on a croissant was fine as well. Nothing to write home about but everything tasted pretty much as you expect. Very reasonable prices as well, our bill for the 2 above items was $22. On a cold spring morning we were starving for a good breakfast. Happy Cooker was about the only restaurant in town that was open. As soon as we entered we were greet by a friendly waitress who had our table ready immediately. The restaurant had a warm, homey atmosphere. My hubby and I both ordered breakfast burritos. They were really spicy but delicious. Enough to take some home. The restaurant is old and could use a little tlc inside and out but that won't stop us from coming back. read more

As I read through the other reviews I was hoping it would fall in the strong side of 3.5 stars. Unfortunately it didn't. My folks had eaten there before and thought it was good so I figured why not try it. We sat out on the patio, which was great and they are a dog friendly restaurant. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food left a little to be desired across the board. I got the Country Burrito which came with scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon or sausage, gravy and cheese on top. I asked for both bacon and sausage and the server was happy to oblige, the kitchen gave me maybe 3 small sections of link sausage (added up to one sausage) and maybe 3 crumbles of bacon. I also only had a couple of potatoes in he wrap. There were plenty of eggs, which was nice, but it came with a small amount of gravy. Overall disappointing. My folks both got the French Dip and neither were overly impressed with the flavor of the meat, although they thought the bread was good. My wife's Turkey BLAT was uninspiring. The turkey was below average and it came with one piece of bacon. Her fruit cup was a wedge or orange with the peel sill on it, a small section of pineapple and canned peaches. read more

We stopped in Georgetown for the night. The snow storm had closed down the interstate so we walked to the HC for a warm meal before sitting in traffic the next morning. The woman who greeted us seemed angry to begin with. There was only one other family there and were told it would be 5 minutes. Told us to sit at a specific table but it needed to be wiped down. We passed up our hotel breakfast to come here. It is a very inviting atmosphere. We received fast service for ordering, checking on us and paying. Waiting for the food, however, seemed forever. I think were there about and a half. Neenie was our waitress and she was fabulous. We both had the mountain morning breakfast. He had scrambled eggs, I had basted. His scrambled were underdone. My basted needed salt and pepper, which I never use at the table. I do get they would rather customers season themselves, however. The potatoes would have been perfect had they not been lukewarm. The bacon was done to perfection for me. The husband prefers his less than crispy. All in all it was better than what the hotel had to offer read more
