I thought they would have vegan soft serve like other reviews said, but they just had coconut milk hard ice cream. I got it mixed with blue raspberry water ice. They were both incredibly sweet and the water ice just tasted like lollipop sugar. I did not like it at all and ended up tossing it about 1/4 way through. Not going to lie, I was excited to try this place. I drove past one day and the cute neon sign caught my eye. The reviews seemed pretty good. Super bummed that it didn't live up to the expectations for me. I got one scoop of oat n honey granola in a waffle cone (on Wednesdays you get a free waffle cone), my husband got two scoops also in a waffle cone. It was no wonder the cone is free. Both were so stale and chewy. His flavors were good, mine was not. Just very "meh" and boring. Dairy Queen would have been more satisfying, if I'm being brutally honest. The cone/cup prep area behind the counter looked disheveled and unclean. That should have been the first sign. The employees were also not very friendly. And the cookies looked like stale store bought. I left wishing I could get a calorie refund. I wish I could recommend this place, but it just wasn't it. (UPDATE AFTER POSTING. I always strive to be as positive and encouraging as possible in my reviews. Even though, I wasn't a huge fan of Happy Day, I'll be as positive as I can be. 3 stars is actually generous in itself. I saw they had Cinnamon Toast Crunch which I love so I asked for a taste which was given begrudgingly. I loved it but unfortunately they barely had any left so I couldn't have it. I knew I couldn't ask for another taste since they didn't want to give me the first. I got the Funfetti since I usually love Funfetti but it was super blah. It really was just vanilla with a handful of sprinkles. My mom and husband had the chocolate mousse which they said was just ok. We ate there and got out of there. This shop is really cute! They get busy when the weather gets nice and there was only one person working today. They were super patient and nice. The ice cream is yummy! I thought the coconut milk soft serve would come out of the machine but it's actually a scooped ice cream. It was still really good and I love that they have DF options. My first impression of this business was that it was spacious and clean and had large televisions. An employee immediately served me. The weather was cold outside, so I skipped the ice cream, and I instead opted to buy cookies. The display of cookies was small but offered several flavors. The variety of hard serve flavors looked pretty typical while we were there, though I have seen some more adventurous ones in the past. We got the strawberry cheesecake, apple pie, and fruity pebbles cheesecake. The strawberry cheesecake was good, pretty typical. The apple pie was very delicious with great cinnamon flavor. This was my first visit to this recently opened dessert shop and I got an opportunity to not only meet the owner Galen but interview him as well. Galen told me all his ice creams are homemade and none are vanilla based with added flavors. That's always a plus for me. Each day they offer a different special. Today was get a free cookie with a milkshake. Happy Day Dessert factory now offers indoor seating as well as takeout if you want to sit and enjoy your special treat there. Flavor sampling is permitted and Galen was glad to go over the flavors with me. In addition to regular ice cream they offer a frozen custard and soft serve made with almond milk if you are looking for vegan alternatives.Opposite the rotating menu and information boards is a giant chalkboard giving you a comprehensive list of toppings as well as information on twisters, milkshakes, and sundaes. That section too provides a list of toppings that you can get overwhelmed by all the goodies you can choose from. The giant chalkboard also has a section where you can post your thoughts about your visit or whatever else is appropriate. In addition if you wish to stay on the lighter side then you can order house made water ice that comes in a number of different flavors. The cookies which are mostly chocolate chip are baked in house and come in two sizes-small and large. The shop is very clean and well organized. Prices are very reasonable if you are buying two scoops which is what I normally go with. After trying out a few flavors I went with a scoop of butter pecan, and chocolate chocolate cookie dough ice cream. If not ordering a cone you get your dessert in a plastic cup. After paying the counter lady I sat down to enjoy my delectable treat. I like the fact that it wasn't too hard nor that it melted quickly. You can taste the homemade goodness that goes into making these ice cream and they were indeed outstanding. Happy day has a freezer where you can purchase take home treats in bulk. They do warn you about food allergy items to be aware of if you are purchasing. Hanging throughout the store are different colored T shirt for sale. They come in ladies junior sizes and men's unisex sizes. Galen explained to me with a Tee shirt purchase if I remember to wear it on a future visit I get a buy one get one free offer. Restrooms are in the back if you need to try it one to make sure of the fit. Galen told me they are preshrunk. I purchased a red tee as a souvenir of my visit. I want to support this small business. However I would not be honest in my opinion. I don't like writing reviews, but my experience needs one. First I approached the counter to find three young ladies sitting down. One asked me for my order while still sitting in the chair. We went back and forth of nom dairy products availability. Two girls stated they only had one flavored scoop. In my hesitation I thought ok the one scoop. Only one girl stood up to get me the item while the other girl cashed me out so while still sitting down. The other girl had her feet up and the third girl feet up and listening to music with headphones on. I noticed the counter was dirty and melted chocolate stains on the back counter drawers. There are three girls in the shop. At least the serving area should be clean. My goodness! They were not professional or business-like. My new favorite ice cream shop in the burgh! Not only is the location prime, but their prices are even better. There are deals everyday and it's some of the best treats I've ever had. They have every type of frozen treat you can imagine. I definitely recommend the mango water ice. Only $3 for a regular size! The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. Oh no, I'm going to be stopping in this place way too much. First visit was on a hot, humid day in the Burgh. This sweet North Side spot is a recent addition to the neighborhood that has Nicky's Thai about a block away. They have homemade hard ice cream, several flavors of dairy-free water ice each day, and both dairy and vegan custard. I got vegan almond custard (vanilla, but they also had chocolate or twist available in the almond, which is very unexpected!) stacked with cherry water ice.
