He literally cannot wait to be rid of me once we're within sight of this place, so I guess if your dog is ready to disown you for a doggie daycare, that's a good sign, right? They don't take reservations, which is a plus but also a minus. It's a plus because if you're in a pinch and need to drop off your dog at the last minute, they can totally accommodate you. You don't have to worry about planning ahead. You will have a go-to place for your dog to play. Not taking reservations is a minus because there are lots of dogs here every day -- they don't seem to care about numbers. So if you have a dog who doesn't do well with lots of other dogs and all the things that dogs come with (barking, butt sniffing, humping, etc.), then this place might be overwhelming for your dog. My dog loves other dogs and people, so this is the perfect place for him. He thrives in attention, both of the canine and human persuasion. A full day of doggie daycare is $30, which is kind of a lot so we don't do it often, but the people here take good care of our dog, so we don't mind using this place every once in a while. read more

Absolutely loved our experiences! We have an 80+lb 9th puppy who has done daycare and a 5 day boarding. This was the fourth place we tried and it's his favorite by far. At other locations he refused to pee until we picked him up but here he doesn't have to go when we leave. He enters the door voluntarily and is excited to get to the play area despite normally being a big scaredy cat. The grooming they did on the last day or boarding made him so soft. I thought the puppy would benefit from having other dogs to play with occasionally when I am at work. My dog is very small, and I wasn't sure how he would do with a larger group of dogs, so I brought him in for a day to see what he thought of it. Happy Dog encourages you to bring your dog in for a free first session of day care, to see if he likes it, and gets along ok with the other dogs. My pup didn't seem to want to associate with the other dogs at first, as he was more interested in following the employee around and trying to get her to pick him up. After a few hours, though, he settled in and started associating with the other dogs. Finally he began to play with the other puppies. Happy Dog offers a discount if you buy a "ten pack" of days, that you can use anytime. And you don't have to make a reservation for daycare. I had just purchased a 15 week old sheep a doodle. I dropped her off for daycare and got a call a hour later informing me that she had been attacked by a first time rescue dog. I was told that they noticed the dog that attacked my pet was acting "skittish" and that one of the handlers had gone to clean up leaving only one attending. My pet suffered a bit to the nose that required two staples and a puncher wound under the chin. Having to wear a cone for three weeks! Upon further observation I found that they are packing too many dogs in too small of a space. To make matters worse yesterday Payed them to shampoo and clean her to meet family and today when I picked her up she was filthy! Not clean, not safe, not recommended!! read more

My dog came home from a four night stay here and had a full container of food. When I asked if she had been fed something else or just hadn't eaten... No one could give me an answer. The manager called me back the next day and said that they had all been really busy and the place was very full and she wasn't sure but she was looking into it... Pretty much full of excuses. Then she called back again the next day and said they were pretty sure she had the food she just hadn't really eaten. I will never send my dog there again. read more

We picked our two labs up Monday evening from happy dog after boarding for 7 nights. Our dogs came home very sick with kennel cough and vomiting. They did not bathe them, and had the wrong pick up day. when I called to discuss with the manager/ owner Kim, she not only didn't apologize or acknowledge what they went through, she said "oh well". I was crying and very upset, and still am as our vet bill is at $280 and climbing, and we just picked them up 4 days ago. My older dog is now showing signs of pneumonia. When my husband picked them up, they weren't bathed or groomed (as they promised), They are extremely lethargic, not themselves at all, dirty, smelly, matted hair, AND THE GUY WHO BROUGHT THEM OUT POINTED TO MY YOUNGER DOG AND SAID HE'S BEEN COUGHING! No one called us to tell us he was sick! They also had the wrong day for pickup. I'm devastated I trusted this establishment to do the bare minimum to care for my two boys. I would have at least felt better if they were in the SLIGHTEST bit kind when I called, or cared at all that they are sick. Kim also informed me that the day before we dropped them off, they had a dog with kennel cough in their facility. WHAT!?! She then went on to lecture me on how vaccinations work. I know how they work. She was defensive and downright rude. We should have been informed of this so we could have made other arrangements. Yes, my dogs had all vaccinations, and we were told every dog was required to be up to date on all vaccinations. I feel like no accountability or even an apology is not acceptable. We will not be back, and certainly won't be recommending this place to anyone. Disgusting behavior from all employees we encountered. Absolutely ABUSIVE to animals and their owners. We have called back THREE times to discuss this with Kim, and she has avoided all our calls. Nothing about this place even borders on bare minimum acceptable. DO NOT leave your animals here under ANY circumstances! Kim should not be trusted with ANY animal. She would not even let us talk to explain everything they had done unprofessionally. I brought my pup here for his first grooming. (I am a first time dog owner, so this was my first grooming scheduling experience as well.) I booked my appointment a few weeks in advance. To go to grooming, you have to send in vaccination records (totally standard). I called my vet and asked them to fax the records over. We received a confirmation call for the grooming appointment the day before, which I appreciated. When I dropped my dog off the morning of his appointment, the front desk alerted me that they never received his vaccination records. I explained that I had called my vet the day I booked the appointment and that they were faxed over. They said "Well, we don't have them, so there's nothing we can do." I ended up getting in touch with my vet and getting the vaccination records re-sent so that my dog could get groomed. This was a bit frustrating for me because the Happy Dog staff could have alerted me that they were missing these records when they called to confirm my appointment. Instead, they waited until I was already dropping my dog off for his appointment. We were able to meet with the groomer to explain what I was looking for. The groomer was truly phenomenal and the only reason I am not giving this place 1 star. She listened to what I wanted and did a wonderful job with the grooming. I wish she worked at a different facility because I would love to use her services again. When I went to pick my puppy up, the front desk was not helpful or eager to assist me. When I asked what the standard tip for a groomer is (as I had never utilized a groomer and wanted to tip accordingly), they said they couldn't help me figure that out and it was personal to my experience. I had to pay before they brought my dog out to me, which I didn't like. I would've liked to see how he looked before paying and tipping. Overall, my experience here was not pleasant. I will be using one of the many other dog spa and daycare spots in Carmel from now on due to the unprofessional and unhelpful front desk. read more

I take my dog here for day care and grooming! I bought the package of 10 daycare visits, because it's much cheaper that way. He got his first grooming last week and he looked the best he has ever looked after grooming. The groomer really listened to me and didn't mess up a thing. You can also place them in day care for the day before and after the groom which is super convenient for me and the dog, so he associates the place with fun. Sometimes leaving him is hard, but I think he has a fun time there. Obviously it's hard to really know what he is doing there in daycare..but I feel like my pup is in good hands when I leave him there for the day. read more

Frustrations abound! Keep hoping it will get better but it never does. Terrible customer service. If you board your dog overnight they will smell terrible when you pick them up. Makes you wonder about the conditions they keep the dogs in to smell so bad. When we've used this place our dogs have to go out IMMEDIATELY to go to the bathroom. Again a signal that your pets are not properly cared for. Just paid for both dogs to be bathed and boarded--basically should have just set my money on fire! Happy Dog Hotel seems to be a great establishment. There seem to be mixed reviews, but I personally haven't had any issues. The facility is very clean and the staff are all very friendly and respectful. I love all the options and add-ons available when my dogs are lodging with them, especially the scrambled eggs with their food in the morning. The only thing I dislike is that they never post photo and/or video updates for the dogs staying either for daycare or lodging. They'll usually post a "wigglebutt of the week", but never any during play time. This isn't a dealbreaker, however I wish this could change as it gives me much more peace of mind when we are away on vacation and I'm sure other customers could say the same as I know it's never easy to leave your pets behind. I was so incredibly disappointed with our experience at Happy Dog Hotel & Spa. I took my dog in for the first time for a nail trim. When the employee took her back for her nail trim, she dragged my dog across the floor by her leash, without greeting her or trying to make her feel comfortable. The way she handled my dog was as if she had never interacted with an animal before. I couldn't believe that she would drag my dog like that right in front of me. It makes me concerned with how they would handle animals behind closed doors. The desk staff was rude and they had terrible customer service. This was unfortunately our puppies first time getting groomed and we had a horrific experience. We were called to be told our dog was ready for pickup. Once my husband got there, they said that the groomer had nicked an old scab and that we probably didn't realize it because of his long hair. When my husband got home with our dog, I was mortified to see a gaping wound on his hind leg. Me being in the health care profession, I knew that this was not an old scab and that this needed immediate attention for possible stitches. We took our dog to the ER and he had to have stitches in his muscle and skin. I understand accidents happen and I would have been more understanding if we were told the truth, but Happy Dog Hotel did not take any accountability and unfortunately we will never know the true story. They luckily paid for our ER vet bill, but only after much convincing and after seeing these pictures. We will no longer use any of their services due to our personal experience. read more

I read various reviews and decided to give this place a try for boarding. There were not many reviews on the boarding, so I thought I might be okay. So I boarded my dogs here for a few days and now I regret it. As soon as we got our two dogs home we noticed they had diarrhea. Not only that but one of our dogs vomited as soon as we let them in the house. This tells me that they didn't correctly feed my dogs. I did allow my dogs to have the eggs at breakfast, so that could upset their stomachs, but I also had too much dog food left over when I picked them up. Also I don't believe they walked my dogs as often as the website claimed. I liked that I was able to keep my dogs in the same room and there is a small discount for it. That and they do have a nice setup to where you can see the daycare dogs playing and groom dogs as soon as you walk into the place. The staff were nice and didn't mistreat my dogs (at least not that I know of). Overall, I won't be bringing my dogs back here. read more

Gigi's birthday is today, so in honor of that, I'm going to review the most recent place she's been to! We recently moved to Carmel from Indy and what I like to do while we're in the process of moving is treat Gigi to a grooming session. She's getting pampered, smells nice for the new place, doesn't have to deal with the stress of moving, and is out from under our feet (also helps that we can leave the doors open without fear of her running out). What helps this place stand out was how short notice I was able to give and still be squeezed in on a Saturday even though we were new clients. I tried calling a few other places, but was told they would be closed or they book out grooming appointments for up to a year and were that busy (uh, what? haha). Anyway, one of them referred me to this place, specifically to one of their groomers (whose name I can't find right now and I feel terrible because she deserves a shout out!). I texted her on a Monday about a Saturday appointment, gave her Gigi's details and some pictures, and she sent back that it shouldn't be an issue to squeeze us in on Saturday of that week. The receptionist called me the next day and got our appointment squared away. I was supposed to drop her off between 8 and 9AM on Saturday and they'd call me after she was finished. We went to our appointment and there were no issues dropping her off, besides the construction making it difficult to get there but that's not Happy Dog's fault. They did warn me about it beforehand! They were offering a special for a facial and teeth brushing for an additional $15, so I went for it. There were different flavors/scents offered, so I went with almond, yum! They called for me to pick her up a few hours later-around 11:15AM. We were in the last hour of moving our heavy furniture, so I ran to pick her up as soon as that was done. They brought Gigi out and she looked adorable in her pink and purple flowered kerchief and smelled fantastic. The groomer even came out and let me know that she didn't have any issues with grooming Gigi and that she was sweet. I've never had a groomer personally come out and let me know what they did (Gigi has a little yeasty spot between her eyes, so she put some drying powder on it to help), so I was really impressed that she took a few minutes of her time to come tell me that. It's a little thing, but it honestly was re-assuring and made me feel like she was cared for. I'm sure Gigi will be back for more grooming sessions in the future! read more

My fourteen year old Bichon had been here for grooming on two previous occasions and I was very pleased. Yesterday was a disaster- apparently Emily decided he was matted and shaved him down to his bare skin. He looks awful- had she called me we could have discussed the issue ( he wasn't that badly matted) but when I picked him up, it was too late. Obviously nothing can be done now, and like a bad haircut, it will grow back but I don't know whether to try again with a different groomer, or just call it quits. Very disappointed. read more

i am beyond disappointed. we brought my dog here for a week. she lost THREE POUNDS. she also has a huge cut on her face. they told us that she had done it over night and that she had scratched herself. we got her nails trimmed the day before we took her there. also, the cut was infected so it obviously did not happen overnight. we took her to the vet but she is still not acting like herself. i don't know what happened but i am NEVER bringing my dog here again. read more

When we left our healthy yorkie for a week we felt this would be a nice place. What a disappointment!!! We picked up a very sick dog and on the weekend so he was very ill the whole weekend. He felt awful and he smelt so bad from this kennel we had to leave the car windows down and he got a bath when we got home. The staff was not concerned about he's health . They didn't even tell us that a dog next to him was sick with a virus . Why was that dog there? No answer from staff or manager. I called and talked to the manager a few days later and she was not concerned at all.so after a kennel bill plus $400.00 vet bill and a very sick dog we will never go back there. My dogs have gone there for 5 years, 5 days a week. They treat my dogs like one of their own family members. My husband was in the hospital and my much older dog was sick as well. They took him to the animal hospital and visited him every day so I could stay with my husband. They ensured my other dog was not anxious. Our dog has been going here twice weekly for the past year for daycare. He is always excited to go and worn out from playing all day. We both work 9-5 jobs, and this is a perfect way for him to spend his day. He is tired for the next day and a half after playing. The employees greet him with a smile and show him affection when he arrives. We also have him groomed here, because they are so much better at it than us. He is an Australian Labradoodle so he has lots of hair. They always make him good great. When we go on vacation we don't worry at all when we board him here because we know he is in great hands and gets to play with his friends during the day. We take our two dogs here when we have to be out of town. They are always greeted enthusiastically by the staff and are made to feel loved and welcomed. They always go above and beyond to make sure that our pets are well cared for and we trust them. I usually let the dogs have playtime while they are being boarded. When we pick them up after they've been groomed, which we usually have done, their bedding is always washed and smells nice and clean! Quite a change from many other places they've stayed in the past. I won't take them anywhere else since we discovered Happy Dog years ago! Highly recommended! read more
