Very cute little place for donuts. When I first walked in I was wearing a California jacket and this sweet old lady enjoying her morning cup of coffee came up and asked if I was from Cali and proceed to have a 10 minute conversation with me. She asked me where from California I was from (I moved to Washington May 2017) and she told me where she was. This feeling and how welcoming the customers are made me wanted to keep coming back. It was such a homey feeling, I already knew I found my new home donut shop. Now to the donuts! Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh! The owners are very sweet and very patient while your small children struggle to decide which donuts they can't live without. Wow where do I start. We are visiting from Northern California when I had a donut craving at 4am and turned to Yelp for help in satisfying my urge. Since we are staying in Auburn, yelp pulled up two donuts spots nearest to me and I said to myself. Should I drive 6 minutes to the closest one which has mediocre reviews or drive 17 minutes away to Happy Donuts and pray I don't get lost or get stuck in traffic. Well I took the risk and drove here which is the best decision I made in a long time. Once I arrived, I found a spot to park and hurried inside. I scanned the items in the display case which included the normal donut fare like chocolate raised, sugar etc. I did noticed the crispy 2 slice bacon on the maple long john and my mouth began to water, I told the gal I'll have one of those and picked some others for the family who was sound asleep back at the hotel. I waited til I got back and once I sinked my teeth in my donut, it was absolutely heaven. The texture, the flavor and overall goodness had me sold. After finishing it, I realized I should of bought more for the 13 hour ride home. Definitely worth the drive and glad I decided to come here. read more

The doughnuts at Happy Donuts are great. Cake style and a lot of variety. Chocolate, cereal, maple, bacon, et cetera. Tiny shop, crowded with customers, this is where you go here and everyone knows it. You want a satisfying doughnut this is the place. America knows the northwest is where our coffee culture resides, so it is a no brainer that the best doughnuts will be here as well. While we were in Puyallyup for a wedding I wanted to make sure we would partake of a local doughnut shop to get the most out of our experience. Imagine my surprise when we stopped in to see the exact same doughnuts we have on the east coast. Style. Picture. Name. Our place has a different name, but serves the exact same doughnuts. First of all, a donut is a donut. The only time that the definition will change is when it is so hard that you can throw it on a wall and it'll make a hole on it. Let's get back to my review. I love this place. It was my first and only time that I went to this location. I am not entirely sure if it has other location somewhere else, but when we parked in their parking lot, I was surprised that there's a lot of people in line outside the donut shop. That can be one of the reason you can take me somewhere to try something and I will, most of the time, say yes and go in line. There is nothing special about their donuts, but I like it because they are very soft and surprisingly not sweet, which is I like about donuts. You can get speciality donuts in a couple of spots 20 minutes away, and a decent Supermarket donut at a place up a Lake Tapps, but this is the old-school, wait in line, get em while they're hot joint I prefer. Inflation is inevitable, but when the quality of the product drops as well, for any business... well, that's not good. This Happy Donuts place used to be worth the price years ago, but now like most businesses, the quality of their donuts and what they're charging, isn't viable to warrant frequent business anymore. Like any pizza/pasta restaurant, deep fried dough should never be overpriced - like this place has become. Those are two examples of the cheapest price point food businesses to operate. When quality is compromised as well, it doesn't make sense anymore. The fact that they're donuts are now over $1 each, not good! When did deep fried flour dough warrant such high prices? Never? Inflation, politics, whatever... business ethics/passing the costs onto customers because your lease is too high, or because the power bill is too high, is not a recipe for long term success. read more

I typically work graveyards but the last month or so my schedule has changed and I've been getting off between 2am-4am. Three weeks ago I got off at 4am and I was craving for some donuts and that's when I looked on Yelp for any nearby donut shops. I had several locations that popped up but Happy Donuts drew my attention for a couple reasons. 1)It was literally down the road (5-10 mins away) and 2) The stellar reviews they've received! When I arrived the location is a nice small shop. They have several tables set up outside and more inside if you decide to stay there to enjoy your donuts and coffee. They have an assortment of different donuts that they offer and you really can't go wrong with any of them. I have passed by this store many years while traveling through Puyallup city center, and there was almost always a line out of the store. Finally decided to drop by and see what was there. Time was around 2:15 p.m., and there were few customers due to the time of day. The lady at the counter greeted my daughter and I jubilantly, which was a welcome surprise. Varieties of donuts remained well stocked, with some "forbidden" ones not sold at other places due to allergies of some. Overall, the donuts were very good. Some were even excellent. The premium ones included Cinnamon roll (Excellent!), apple fritter & bear claw with apple stuffing (Surprised, still undecided on rating.)]. The maple bar, plain twist (Excellent), the cake donuts [white and chocolate with peanuts, white and chocolate with coconut, blueberry (Excellent)] and the french crullers (Unusual offering, a little let down though as they may have dried up due to late in the day? Will have to try them again.) were the other ones we picked up. Made a mistake not getting any buttermilk ones. Pricing was about average high, but the lady offered a 10% discount, and kicked in a freebie on top of that. Much appreciated.
