Growing up in a Cantonese family, hot pot was always the thing to do. Little sheep is not a bad option if you're looking for hot pot. However, the price for the food is a bit pricey and the quality of the food was just a bit subpar. It was around 20$ and I still felt very hungry and a bit dissatisfied. I love spicy food and this is one of the few restaurants that when they say spicy it's spicy. The half and half broths is probably the best choice since you get mild and spicy soups. They give you a high amount of broth and the choices of meats and veggies that you can add to the broth. The broth heats up right on your table and you add your meats and veggies while you wait and watch this take place in front of you. Now the spicy side of the broth is spicy!!! I cry every time so take your time eating it and don't breath in too fast because the spicy air willl flow down the pipes and make you cough with a little cry after!! Love it! Went there for my birthday with my husband. Very satisfied, the food was great and the service was exceptional, in my opinion. Our server, Jonathan was absolutely amazing, we really felt that he genuinely cared about us, he made sure that we got all we need. That's probably one of the best service we've ever got around NJ and NY! If only all the servers in the world could be as helpful as Jonathan, then the world would be a better place :D Anyway, the food was delish, as always, thick broth and fresh meat and vegetables. I enjoyed my meal here at Little Sheep. I was hoping to take advantage of either their lunch pricing or dinner all-you-can-eat (which have more reasonable prices), but I ended up coming here for dinner on a weekend so I did the a la carte instead (more expensive). I love their broth (so rich and tasty, but not overly heavy, and you can have varying levels of spicy broth too). They have a great selection of meats (that are always cut so thinly!!) and other standard hot pot items (i.e. veggies, tofu, seafood). For sauce, you go up to a make-you-own sauce bar. It's BYOB here as well. My only complaint here is the service...they were verrrrry slow in getting our order, then verrrry slow in bringing out our broth. It was so cold in the restaurant, and when the broth was finally brought over and started simmering, it got warmer (yay!). It sounds like other folks have had better experiences here with service though, so maybe I just came on an unusual day. Either way, this is a great place for a relaxing, delicious meal. read more

Also do not order the spicy soup base, it will be filled with tons of red hot chiles, and everything you put in the soup will taste just like that....and be nasty after a few dishes. Definitely a foreign experience for our group. Thanks to our server Jason for getting us through the ordering process, showing us the ropes of communal Mongolian dining, and making helpful menu suggestions. If you haven't tried this cuisine, you should, but be prepared to create and cook your own meal in communal pots of boiling soup bases, cooking on burners built into your table. Be prepared to take your taste buds for a ride. The soup bases come in two intensities, original flavor and "hot." Don't ingest the hot peppers from the spicier broth. It's painful. However, I do suggest that you get both. You get a check-off form from which you select your meats, seafood, veggies and noodles. The meats are cut razor thin and cook within seconds in the soup. We chose the Angus beef, pork and lamb. Our group wasn't made up of seafood eaters so we passed on the fish. The meat took on the flavor of the broth it was cooked in. We agreed that everything tasted the same after a while. There's a special sauces bar. We chose two for the table, both tasty, one peanut flavored, the other a sesame oil based dressing. For sides we got the beef skewers and pot stickers. They were great. The veggies we chose were potato, tofu, cabbage, corn, pumpkin, broccoli, mushrooms and a leafy green veg. Some vegetables cooked up easily, while the potato and pumpkin took a lot longer and some pieces got lost in the broth. There were plenty of ladles to go around for the soup and meat that is cooked in the boiling liquid with chopsticks. Finally, the noodles we selected were Udon and the skinny rice ones. The food is fresh. The decor is modern. One complaint, it's awfully loud in the restaurant and it's hard to hear your companions across the table. I have been there many times and last time was the worst. They gave me something I never ordered. And this is not the first time that happened. They are absolutely dishonest. I ordered American kobe beef but they gave me Angus beef instead.The latter is twice as much as expensive. But they look very similar. We came here on a Friday night and they told us the wait was going to be 30-45 minutes. So we left, and then came back at like a Tuesday afternoon and walked right in. We got the split mild/spicy option with three different meats, a couple seafood, and one vegetable. We also got some meat skewers on the side, which I think was too much as we were SO full by the end of the meal. The food was delicious, the broth was amazing and had so much flavor, and the service was very nice. It was a very fun experience but definitely not a leisurely one!! I found myself constantly fishing inside my soup for the piece of meat I dropped in there moments ago and forgot about, so my advice is keep good track of your food because you don't want to forget about it! read more

This was my first hot pot experience, so I'm not gonna lie, I had no idea how this worked. I was trying super hard to finish the broth and then the waiter came over and filled it back up. I was so confused until it was explained to me that you're not supposed to finish it. We got the half and half base with mixed vegetables, angus beef and lamb dumplings. I don't think I devoured anything that fast in a while. Both broths were amazing though I tended to favor the original broth because my mouth would occasionally be on fire from the other (but totally worth it). They gave us a ton of veggies and the sides dishes you can choose from the sauce bar were a good addition to the meat. I also had the bubble tea which helped calm the fire! The place was clean and the staff were friendly, though not very attentive at times. We waited a while to pay the bill, which was fine but if you're in a rush it can be a problem. I came here on Valentine's Day with my family. If you plan on coming with a group of people you should try to come early since it gets packed pretty quickly. Overall it was a nice experience. The people that work there are young and sometimes look hustled but they did a great job with making sure that we were had water and soup in our hot pot. for the most part, I had a great time ordering the food and there's a ton to choose from. We had the ying yang soup base which was great because when the spicy side got too spicy I was able to cool it down! For those that are particular with how hot pot is to be served, the soup is salty and you might find yourself drinking water frequently. other than that, the food was pretty fresh and it's a great place to go especially on a cold day! The sauces are pretty good and it was nice to be able to mix it up with different flavor. This place is worth a try. I'm curious to try the special lunch portions! read more

Love Little Sheep, the spicy broth is a personal favorite of mine(but get the half and half broth so you can try both!). You definitely want to come during lunch time special because it can get a bit pricey (during summer they have all you can eat for certain lunches!). The service is generally good and all the meats and vegetables are fresh. It can get really busy but being able to just check off what you want on a sheet makes for more efficient service, I think. Service: 2 stars. This is where this place really struggles. They're really understaffed and service is so slow and at times, dismissive. We came at lunch and had to wait 30 minutes for no reason when there were 3-4 open tables, but uncleaned. There just wasn't enough bussers and servers who were available to clean them quick enough. When we sat down, we waited for 15 minutes and no one came up to take our drink order. I had to flag a lady down who seemed really annoyed she had to help us. There were only 2 main servers and they were nice, but running around like crazy. There should be more servers. Food comes out slowly as well. Overall: 3.5/4 stars. Great food - just invest some money into better service and this would be a 5 star spot. Hire more staff and/or increase efficiency. read more

I enjoy this place for two reasons: 1. It reminds me of my culture being that I am Chinese and hot pot is my moms Sunday specialty when I'm back in China visiting, and 2. I introduced a class mate from Rutgers for the first time ever, and he now visits hot pot a few times a month because he loves it. I live in highland park so it's also very convenient for me. It gets very crowded on weekends so the best time to come is around 6 or a little earlier otherwise I hope you don't mind waiting a bit for a table. read more
